Verizon Location Reticle Removal? - Galaxy S III Themes and Apps (US Carriers)

Does anyone know how to remove the location icon at the top? From the looks of it, it's a Verizon only thing. I did it to my Thunderbolt, but can't remember how I did or even if that method would work.
Thanks

I "cheated" and just deleted the PNGs from systemUI.apk. I attached the file below if anyone wants it.

can we just replace your apk with ours in rootexplorer and then reboot?

yup...just make a backup just in case!

Is there a difference from removing the entire reticle compared to just deleting the PNGs? Just wondering.

There's an underlying smali edit that will remove the functionality, and is the "right" way of doing it (at least that's how it was on the Thunderbolt). Also, the PNGs were hidden somewhere in the Thunderbolt, so it wasn't this easy. The result is the same and doesn't really matter to the end user, though.

Worked for me. Thanks OP.

Thanks OP. That too, was bugging me.

There is a slight difference in that removing the image still causes it to take up space on the notification bar but I imagine with a 720p wide screen you're not terribly crunched for space there.

I tried this and it froze up. I just moved the file into the app file in root explorer, but my phone froze up and on reboot, I had to re-flash the ROM.
Any advice on what I am doing wrong?

When I overwrote SystemUI.apk, it succeeded, then everything froze for a few seconds. When it came back to life, I slowly, and after a few more crashes of System UI, got the device to reboot. On reboot, I got the Samsung logo with the unlocked padlock icon and the word "Custom" below it. When the phone booted back up, everything seems to be working with the location reticle gone. Subsequent reboots have not had the unlocked padlock or the "Custom." I booted the phone into Odin mode and got the following:
Code:
[COLOR="Red"]ODIN MODE[/COLOR]
PRODUCT NAME: SCH-I535
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
[COLOR="DarkSlateGray"]QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE[/COLOR]
Weird behavior, but it works.

Isn't there a way to use sql editor to get rid of it like the post for getting rid of the annoying wifi toggle thing?

You have to change permissions when moving the file. RW-R--R--

[Q] Wanting to change the google search widget background to black. Where's the apk?

Title's pretty on it. I had gotten a black google search from somewhere, but I don't remember where, and now that I'm 2.2, I figured I'd jsut edit it myself.
Can someone tell me the apk that I need to look in to edit the background PNG? Any help would be appreciated.

Tried Googlequicksearch. Will try the other in a second. Right now I'm tricking out the radio lol.
Nope, not quick search either
Just use the search softly and use the screen space for something else. Hint - tap to open search window. Long press to use voice search. No need to be redundant.

Bugless Beast 0.4 had the translucent black search box, and I thought the mod was part of his launcher2.apk. The previous post seems to prove me wrong.
It also had a translucent version of the power switch, which i think is in settings.apk, but it might be part of the framework.
I'd love to see something like that, it was really slick.
Let me know if you throw something together.
Edit: attached the BB 0.4 Launcher2.apk.
Edit2: Riptide, thats badass.

Got it, but I currently have the latest Google search installed, so theoretically this should overwrite the exiting file right?
The problem is I don't see the existing Google search in the /system/app folder. I pushed the above Google search, but no change. I can't tell if it even overwrote the previous. I also dont know which existing APK file I need to remove to uninstall the existing Google search).
Not sure if all that made sense.
is it possible to install this without root?

If you want to theme the dialer, you want dialeractivitytab.apk. Phone.apk is misleading...

I can theme DialerTabActivity.apk. That works fine. Its the Phone.apk that i wanted to theme. Well at least i think so... Im looking to theme the "In Call" buttons and in call dialer. Not the regular dialer. This way when im in call the Bluetooth, Speaker Phone, End Call, and such are themed. rather than the standard background and grey buttons like such..
Heres a pic of what i mean... This one is the themed one from Clean GB but still FC's on my
@marcusant... ya thats what i was reading somewhere but did know if there was a workaround. I noticed in Revival v.2 (what im running now) its not themed so i assumed maybe its too confusing.
Take the stock tw-framework.apk and put it on your desktop. When you go to decompile the phone.apk use 10. It will ask you what file. Just drag and drop tw-framework.apk into the window.

Then it resets my radio. Any advice as to why it isnt functioning correctly?

It s only one image like that, so you won't miss it

I'm having a similar issue. Tries replacing images in both "drawable-sw600dp-xhdpi" and "drawable-xhdpi". I have replaced both "ic_lockscreen_handle_normal.png" and "ic_lockscreen_handle_pressed.png", but it just seems to cause endless bootloops of death. EBoD!
Please assist, as I would very much like to have a modified lockscreen.
Thank you in advance.
Keeping them the same size? they are quite large like 216X216(I think from memory)
A sample:
DarkHorse Revolution - NeXus Edition
How are you tryign to do it?
You dont need to the the ones in sw600dp-xhdpi folder, just darwable-xhdpi folder.

You could just get WidgetLocker, which in addition to allowing widgets on the lockscreen, also allows you to have alternate wallpapers, and modify the lock pictures and method (i.e. unlock like HTC Sense, Sense3, iPhone, as well as ICS).

You can see the extra folder on the bottom right
I remember on the evo 3d you could go to settings and make sure they didn't appear I don't see that on here ... and I get tired of erasing them. Also I don't want an app for gallery stock one is fine for me

What are the images of? And they're not deletable from the Gallery app itself?
If you connect to a PC and dive into the folders, can you find where they are and delete them?

I use QuickPic instead of the Gallery, its much better and faster imo. QP has the option to hide folders you dont want showing up. If you are willing to try QP instead of Gallery that will solve your problem, but I dont know how to hide folders in the Gallery app.

In the root of the directory where the images are make a file called ".nomedia", clear the data on the gallery app and images will not come back.

Repost of xperiacle's topic from international. N3
Hello Friends,
Just thought I will share a very simple app I made to enable or add additional apps for Samsung's Galaxy Note series with PEN WINDOW feature like the Galaxy Note 3. For those who are willing to try, please do and would appreciate feedback. I have not tested it on a Note 3 device yet because I don't have a Note 3 so I am requesting for testers.
First, make sure you are rooted with busybox installed.
Second, make a backup.
Third, just download below and install as nornal.
Finally, just tick the apps you want and don't forget to press the save button. A soft reboot maybe required for the changes to take effect.
NOTE: If you have previously edited others.xml or features.xml, you may have introduced some errors to the xml file layout which would prevent this app from properly functioning. Editing the said xml files manually is not advisable due to human error of breaking the xml structure by accident. If this app does not work after previously manually editing the said xml files, then I suggest you restore the original unedited xml files.
For those who don't seem to have a /system/csc folder and either others.xml or features.xml files in said folder, then you may want to try a custom rom that includes it but if you want to try, you can create the csc folder and procure a copy of others.xml or features.xml and put it inside the csc folder.
Have FUN!

Thanks deeznutz1977. I happen to post something about this in Q&A earlier. Maybe Moderator might wnat to combine in this thread as it is better in Apps section. Regardeless, this is a great feature and I'm amazed at how fast development is moving along. I hope that making floating windows is not restricted to Pen Manager. On my GN2 I can open floating window from any short cut I set up (from screen or side bar launcher). This is nicer. BTW, to make your floating window experience complete, do a long press on the microphone key on the samsung keyboard. You are given an option to make a floating keyboard, like on the galaxy note 8 tablet! I had happened to notice this when I was checking it out at the T-Mobile store. Dang! I'm getting mine tomorrow!
Working great for me. Thanks!

yes. All of the apps (save one) that I picked were there as well as the defaults.
dunno if it makes any difference, but when i initially loaded the app, it was blank on the side where the selected apps would be. none of the default apps were available to be chosen to be listed either.

Hi. It looks like you can make floating apps without pen using Xposed and Multiwindow manager. Needs further testing but check out my post here
