[WALLPAPERS] Dark 1440x1280 wallpapers - Galaxy S III Themes and Apps (US Carriers)

These are the top 250 darkest wallpapers out of a collection of 2,661 from interfacelift.com, resized to 1440x1280 for android phones with 720p resolution displays. They're extra wide such that they pan as you swipe across homescreens.
Why prefer dark wallpapers? Because they save energy when used with emissive AMOLED displays (vs LCD backlights that are always on), and because it's easier to see app icons & text on top of dark backgrounds.
Click the images in the contact sheet here to view and save the larger version to your phone.
The same contact sheet is included below for reference (but is not clickable (obviously)). They're sorted in order of ascending brightness. Shouldn't have to be said, but the images are for personal non-commercial use only. Oh, and sorry about the few rotten Apple wallpapers here...
Feel free to post your own dark-ish wallpapers in this thread too.
EDIT: I should point out that the default Touchwiz launcher doesn't support scrolling wallpapers. If you want 'em to scroll, try another launcher, like: Trebuchet, Nova, or Apex. If using Touchwiz, you have to crop 'em to one screen only (even if using QuickPic vs Gallery).

I didn't see any in the previews, but do you have any Dark Knight Rises wallpapers? And what resolution wallpaper would I have to download if I want to download them from somewhere else?

Sorry, I don't. (Batman is copyrighted... and interfacelift.com is user-generated stuff only.)
Any image that you can crop & resize to 1440x1280 is fine.

Ah, forgot to mention that the stock Touchpiz launcher doesn't support the scrolling wallpapers. You have to use another launcher like Trebuchet, Nova, or Apex, etc. (i'll update the OP)

Use Wallpaper Maker from the market. It'll let you set the full image. Pretty sure it's our gallery mucking it up.

same problem here with Apex...

People have suggested "Wallpaper Maker" and "Wallpaper Wizardrii™" as workarounds for Touchwiz not scrolling your wallpaper, but I just tested both, and they don't work (or I'm missing something obvious). So, if you want a scrolling wallpaper, ditch the Touchwiz launcher.

Thanks for sharing ... great collection

Have you used QuickPic? It's an alternative gallery replacement that allows for scrolling wallpapers. I'm using NOVA launcher and it works for me.

I tried Quick Pic and Just Pictures with Apex and neither can do full screen wallpapers. Looks like Nova Launcher is it.
Edit: never mind, the setting in Apex was set to single screen-non scroll. Both Quick Pic and Just Pictures works

No luck. The colors just dont look sharp. You think we need to use a special type of pic with limited amount of colors? I even talked to the MultiPicture Live Wallpaper Dev. He said he cant do much bout this.

Thanks for following up.
I am using the following wallpaper:
Oraculum [email protected]
I am using Photoshop CS5 to crop. I am not using 1200x1024 as I am using MultiPicture Live Wallpaper. I have set it to Show Entire Picture.
After doing some testing about the resolution, I have found 1200x732 the most optimal resolution. If you go above it the width starts to stretch. I have removed the Dock on the right and the status bar on top. All thats present are the soft buttons.
I resize the wallpaper to 1200x732 and save it as a non interlaced PNG. Its the best quality Ive achieved yet. And it still looks ugly. Its pixelrated.
What I am trying to achieve: I am trying to make a custom homescreen for each homescreen. I am using two wallpapers, one for the other screens and one for the main homescreen. You know, like hubs. I have disabled portrait mode on Launcher Pro Plus.
Edit: I think the screen cant handle the amount of colors. Or something such...

One tip if you need MultiPicture Live Wallpaper the optimal resolution for a sinlge screen is 1024x600 mind you then you have to configure the live wallpaper to not do scolling.
Look here These are all wallpaper that have been scaled to 1024x600 and set with Multipicture Live Wallpaper.
I use Wallaby to get my wallpaper set with no compression or resizing.

also I forgot to add if you would like to see this work with launchers like apex or nova to get more of an ics feel you should go vote on their suggestion sites

Working on a new work around for this, and it should also improve battery life, and possibly amount of time to set up (for everyone but me). The basic idea is this, instead of using a widget to cover up the home screen icons, edit your wallpaper to cover up the icons and have that as the style instead. I havent had much time to work with this yet but i will hopefully get this up and running soon. But i have tested and the shortcuts do survive a wipe if you just backup adw, so you shouldnt have to do any work to set this up after flashing things.
created a work around heres the background... image still needs some editting as it does not like up quiet right with actions

What you have to do is resize it to cover over it and that is how you move it over. The youtube video is a bit better to see how to do this.

Vertical scrolling launcher

I created some image tiles for my home screen; something similar to this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",

}
However I'm trying to make it function more like the Android Market home screen, where you scroll vertically as opposed to horizontally.
I'm using Go Launcher EX and as far as I've gathered none of the launchers I've tried have the option to scroll vertically.
Does anyone know of any launchers that have that ability?
Nice!
When you manage to get that thing together i will test drive the hell out of it for you. Windows 7 themed launcher moves up and down. There may be others though so don't quote me on it

I tried Win 7 Launcher previously but you're only limited to tiles 1x1 or 1x2 & some of the tiles that come preconfigured are locked onto the screen (i.e you can't remove them).
Actually what I'm doing is nothing really more then creating tiles & placing them onto the screen. I wish though that I did know how to create a launcher, I'm just using a pre-existing one, though none have the vertical scrolling feature that I would like.
Can you decompile it make the necessary mods repack sign and test? I know I am making it sound easy. I know nothing of developing so I can be of much help.

No luck as of yet. Hopefully one off the existing launchers will incorporate that function in the future

Well it is a vertical launcher but after messing with it for awhile it does not allow me to remove the preset icons (you can only remove ones you create) & if using tiles you cannot get them to align in such a manner that they touch end to end. I was hoping to use the launcher to create tiles of my own using Desktop Visualizer. This is what I have created using Go Launcher, just want the home screens to scroll vertically. My ultimate goal is to create a home screen that scrolls vertically & create something that looks very similar to the Android Market:
I have send an email to the golauncher developers too and vot one back. But i think it's just a standard reply so i don't expect any luck there
EL TEJANO i want exactly the same thing. I've spend so many hours on the Internet searching with no luck. It's getting frustrating. I really hope golauncher or any other good launcher like ADW or Launcher Pro can add this function
So this thread is dead now?

wallpaper crop

I know, a real stupid question here... with the large SG3 display, how in the H*#@
can you set a wallpaper without it cropping the damn thing, ANY IDEAS would be seriously helpful.
Grab Wallpaper Wizardrii from the market
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.twistedapps.wallpaperwizardrii&hl=en
Select your wallpaper using that app and choose the scale option. That's the only way I've had it work
Also, the picspeed wallpaper app works well. Just need to select the image in your gallery, choose set as wallpaper, and the use the app to crop it or not crop it as you see fit.
You can try multipicture live wallpaper from the market.
It will show the wallpaper full without cropping.
You can also try picspeed and use the option "use original" when setting wallpaper.
Thanks guys, you saved me from getting kicked to the street, it was for the wife's phone I will give both apps a shot.

I've also tried several of these apps and none of them work. The wallpaper always gets cropped and zooms into the center of the picture. I had a couple wallpapers I downloaded from the Zedge app but they won't set fullscreen with the whole pic like I want. Any ideas?
Samsung's stock launcher does not support scrolling wallpapers. you need to use a third party launcher like nova or apex.
You can check out my workshop if you wsnt a custom wallpaper
I was having this same problem. Here is how I fixed it. I did use Wallpaper Wizardrii. But, you have to make sure you have a very high resolution image. If your image is low res, it won't work. I chose the image, then chose "crop scale". It opens with a square over your image. If you want your image to fill the screen top to bottom, keep the aspect ratio of that square when cropping. You can keep the aspect by stretching only from a corner, and not one of the sides. It's okay if you change the aspect ratio a little, but the more you do, the more you will start to see black bars on top and bottom. If you aren't worried about a little space on top and bottom, just choose scale. Depending on the aspect ratio of your image, it may fill the screen just fine. If your image is true HD, then it is 16:9 and it will have bars. But if it's closer to 4:3, just choosing "scale" should work. Just remember if it's really low res, you likely won't see the scrolling effect.
Hope this helps. If it did, hit thanks.

You can use multi wall paper app with nova launcher. Put the wallpapers you want in a separate folder and use that folder.

Are you able to get multiple wallpapers running under tw? :/ which rom are you using if so, and what odd settings did you have to use?

I would love to help you, but help yourself first: ask a better question

Didn't try it with TW, but I'm pretty sure it will work. It only relies on which image or folder of images is assigned to which respective homescreen. I mostly ran Go Launcher EX when I was stock and not even rooted. It does work with Nova, ADW and Trebuct(sp?) as well. I've ran it on CM10.1, AOKP, JellyBeer, JellyBam, ParanoidAndroid, LiquidSmooth and Vanilla RootBox. All worked fine. I'm running Vanilla RootBox with Go Launcher HD for tablets right now and MPLW is working perfectly.
The only thing I can suggest is if you do end up having problems making it switch properly between homescreens, try scrolling down to its settings and play around with the choices under "Workaround for some home application." I learned that "For Honeycomb Tablet" seems to work the best for my set up, which is landscape mode.
Here are some examples of my homescreens with various ROMs, stock to custom, with each running MPLW:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
MPLW also allows your lockscreen wallpaper to change separately from your homescreen:

Hi,
Yes, it IS possible to get different wallpapers on different home screens. ( Assuming that each home screen has it own STATIC wallpaper.)
I've got SG Note 2 with Nova Launcher Prime.
The number of home screens is not critical (I personally have 7 of them.)
As was mentioned you would need MultiPicture Live Wallpaper (MPLW). So install it.
Here is the sort of the tut for this task.
1. Prepare the wallpapers you want to allocate and put the exact number of them (e.g. 7 wallpapers if you have 7 screens) in separate folder. (FYI, I haven’t experimented with the external SD card, since I already had those 7 pictures in the internal storage.)
2. Go to Nova Launcher’s settings and enable (use ON radio button) Wallpapers scrolling under the Desktop menu. Quit Nova settings.
3. Choose Wallpaper menu item under the Menu Key and then, choose the Live Wallpapers.
4. Chose MPLW and then, tap its settings button.
5. Then, Common settings > Picture Source > Picture folder. Set the path to the folder with your wallpaper images.
6. Under the Picture Folder menu set the Selection settings to specify on which wallpaper will be on what screen, etc.
7. Use SGN2 Back and set the rest of the Common settings options (BG color, Crop, transitions etc.) under the Screen Settings menu. Make sure that you select the NEVER radio button under the Picture change interval menu.
8. Use SGN2 Back key again and tap Set Wallpaper button. Voilà!
2 notes: a) It seems like NO workaround options that MPLW offers is needed... I just set it to NONE and it worked just fine for me; b) since I had earlier changed as I wanted the Lock screen using the settings SGN2 provides, I didn’t actually try hard to make the “Use lock screen settings” option work. At least simple selecting that checkbox and pointing to the specific image did NOT work – the lock screen wallpaper remained the old one.
I hope that this tut will work for you too and maybe not only for Note 2. Honestly, when you have the specific wallpaper for each screen, this is not just looking cool , but is helpful too (better icons/folders visibility).
Cheers,
Max
