Trident Kraken - Galaxy S III Accessories

I just pre ordered this in black. I haven't seen this spoken about much but I think its a good case for 31 bucks. ( promo )
It has everything that I want. Kick stand, screen protection, and a holster.
I haven't seen any reviews on it yet. Any one has any previous experience with this on another phone.

Where can you order it? I don't see it on the Trident website at all. Very interested, at that price point

After some "Googling", I found it for pre-order at $29.95 w/free shipping, supposed to be in stock on July 20: Mobile-Stop.com Trident Kraken for Galaxy S3

Sorry I forgot to include where I got mine from. I ordered from cyclopscase.com
I think that other 29.95 deal should be jumped on ASAP though.

Interesting. I'd like to see pictures of it first. I bet it will be nice though. I more than likely will stick with OB though.

The green one looks alright but I wonder how thick it is.

If you are worried about thickness, you will steer clear of Trident/Otterbox/Casemate tough/etc.
Just by watching video reviews, I prefer the Kraken's ease of putting the case on/taking it off, as I will be doing that every couple days when I go to work. Also, I like the polycarbonate on the outside layer, as opposed to the silicone layer on the outside on the Otterbox.

I watched a YouTube vid of a Kraken on an Iphone4. Not sure if I like it or not, the silicone seems flimsy.

I was about to order one till I watched a review. The clip design is impractical. The way you have to align it with the case is far from easy and if you don't get it perfect it will fall off.

In a way I agree with you, I don't think I will use the silicone layer as a case by itself (which you can do). In fact, I would never use any silicone as a case by itself, I don't like it's "flimsiness", and also the feel in my hand and how easily it picks up dust. But its flimsiness does not present a problem at all, when used with the polycarbonate exterior shell, the silicone will work great as a shock absorber and keep the phone snug in the polycarbonate outer shell.
Even though I have not had one, or even held one before, some of the reviews I watched convinced me, and I pre-ordered one in red. I have a few friends with the Otterbox, I just don't like the integrated screen protector, silicone outer layer, and it does not look like like it is as easily installed/removed.

I wonder how the belt clip works with the Kraken/GS3 on page 1. There's no hole for the belt clip. It's different than the Kraken on the IPhone4.

Looks like it is similar to some of the other Krakens, look at the little T-slot on the side, about halfway up the phone, it will clip in there on both sides of the phone.

I didn't watch that vid when I first replied, after watching it, I thought I should mention, that is an "old" video, they do not make a case lie that now, as far as I can tell. The current Kraken has the silicone layer on the inside, and polycarbonate outside. Also it does not have a belt clip like that, instead it clips to the outside edges of the phone. Even the iPhone cases are not like that video, according to the current Trident website.
Here is a video showing the Nexus Trident Kraken, this appears to be similar to what the SGS3 case will be like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnIrtiLecIg

I agree with you. That's going to one thing that I have to get used to, but like the reviews say, that belt clip is compatible with all kraken cases despite the phone, so that's a plus.
When it comes in, I will let you all know how it goes.

Hmmm, maybe the Seidio Active is the answer...

I had the Kraken for my 3d and it was a tank. I definitely recommend this case, If you are worried about bulk then keep it moving. The silicon on the 3d was sturdy and it can be used as a case on its own. The outer shell is very sturdy, I dropped my 3d so many times with this case and had zero problems with it. Going to order one now as a matter of fact.

After watching the vid, I'm not so sure I like the way the belt clip works with the case.

I had one of these on my Rezound, it's feels really strange with the plastic shell being on the outside, my phone felt really clunky. Also like others said the belt clip is kinda weird

Surface II or active

This is my final question about a case for my Evo, Im down to the Seidio Innocase II Surface and the Active which case will be the better choice? I red a couple reviews about the active not fitting correctly and i heard horror stories about the surface scratching the edges
I love my blue Seidio Innocase II Surface Case (looks purple on amazon)... Fits tight, no play. I have to go slow when I put it on so that I don't lift up the edge of my invisashield.
I think my case is the active and I hate it. The back has started to peel and a corner broke like it came unglued. I'm going to get an otterbox instead I think.

Looks like you have the innocase active limited edition, available only through amazon. I have the same and the plastic skeleton doesn't fit 100% perfectly, but it's not bad. I too had some clips (top and bottom right) break off, but mine gets banged up a lot while i'm at work so I wasn't too surprised.
The regular innocase active looks like the skeleton has been enlarged to prevent the clips from breaking.
I just ordered an otterbox commuter case and a seidio innocase rugged combo.
Personally, I like having the combo of a hard shell with the soft cushion of the silicone.

I had the exact same thing happen, but sedio did honor the warranty. Just a thought.
I bought the PT brand from Best Buy today and I believe it is the same as the surface. It is made by Seidio but labeled differently.
I love it. Doesn't add much bulk and feels good in the hand.
Well maybe I'll give them a call about the warranty. I like the overall case design just disappointed in the flaws I've had with it so far. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm in the same boat, my rugged has had the corners break off both on my case and my wife's.
I don't think I want to pay for the shipping to replace it through warranty though...I think I may just wait for TridentCase to make a Kraken case for the Evo.
Well, just got the seidio rugged case today and i'm really not impressed. Basically a larger version of the active limited edition. The plastic skeleton seems better quality though. Cheap port covers. My suggestions to seidio: take the rugged and shrink it to fit without the surface. Then make the belt clip so the phone can be inserted face in AND face out and reconfigure the top latch to be smaller/smoother.
Long story short, I switched back to my active limited while I wait for the trident cyclops and the otterbox commuter cases that I ordered to arrive.
Ps: I noticed that the exoskelleton from the rugged fits PERFECTLY over the one from the active limited.

No problems with my innocase active I got from eBay, I've seen a lot of people complaining about the limited edition one Amazon sells, very happy with mine though, and ebay had it cheaper than seidio's website. The otterbox isn't bad but only comes in one color I think.

Hate to be a bother, but anyway you or anyone can post pictures of their Active case? I'm on the fence about buying one, and if I do it'll be the Active case with holster combo.
Seidio says the camera does not touch any flat surface with the case, and it actually looks as if it doesn't add TOO much bulk to the phone like some others, and a couple of the Otterbox's I was looking at fall into that category.

The camera does not touch on a flat surface.
The case adds very little bulk, but it will sure seem like it does when you hold the evo naked after using it a while. Same for any case of this type.
I have the regular active (not the LE with smaller outer shell) and the rubbery outer coating has worn off in the corners like in the pics of the LE that were posted. I'm sure this is due to my using it in a snug leather case, and is confined to the corners. No big deal to me. You can only tell if you look closely.
As far as fit goes, it is snug and well designed. Button use is as good as naked. Only complaint is dust builds up slowly on the left side where the outer shell fits into the soft inner layer. I take it apart and rinse the soft layer off every couple weeks.
My phone has taken several 3ft drops (off desk, out of shirt pocket while tying shoe lace) and is completely unharmed.
Is it the best case in the world? Maybe not, but it is comfortable to hold and protects the phone very well.
If this one were to break, I may try the otterbox but I'm not parting with it any time soon.
The pictures on Seidio's web site are better than what I could send you.

fanboy much?
I have the New Blue/Black Active Case and i LOVE it it fits perfectly its easy to take off if you need to swap batteries or put it in a dock, the new STyle Active is very durable doesn't crack easily.
Ive had mine for months now and the only visable issue with the back is where the Seidio name is its rubbing off from being set down and rubbed against other than that it's great it fits perfectly doesn't shift no gaps nothing.
the pictures they posted for the active in the beginning of this post is from the Active LIMITED it was their trial run before they changed it to the new Style
This is The New Active Case

[FOUND!] Looking for a belt case for SGS2 - snug fit, covered corners, bottom cutout

EDIT:
So I bought the ebay case for $5, got it in about a week (China -> US).
Looks very solid, offers full protection, no parts will scratch the phone.. I especially like that there's a bottom cut-out for easy removal, and that corners are covered!
Nice fut, very snug.
Highly recommended.
If mods allow, here's link to it (there are several like it)

Guys, anybody seen a belt-clip case for SGS2 that will fit snugly and have covered corners?
There's one on amazon that's quite popular, but it has one major flaw - both bottom corners are exposed, so after some time I'll have blemishes on those corners. Which I think is a very dumb design decision on their part..
I looked through what amazon had and didn't find anything that'd be perfect.

Actually that should work just great!
I see the cutout at the bottom, corners are covered enough so they don't get scratched... I think that's a winner.
Tell me - how's the build quality? Does it fit SGS2 snugly?
EDIT: Actually I just noticed the crazy 15-20 day delivery.. that won't work for me, where am I going to carry my phone for 20 days =(

Hello,
I am looking for a horizontal belt case too. Those recommended in the thread are good, but may I ask whether they have extra space to accommodate also my SGP neo-hybrid? I don't want to pull out the SGP one regularly when using this case.

I started with a belt case designed for the Sony X10, while it worked well it had the fatal flaw of covering the headphone jack so you couldn't listen to music with the phone in the case. I have since ordered the PDAir one as it was the only I could find where I was sure the headphone jack would be exposed.
I've been happy with it so far though I agree $30 bucks is a bit expensive for it.

*Gulp*.. maybe as a last resort..
Anyway, I ended up buying this one.
I like that it's cheap (in my experience $50 cases and $5 cases are made by same factory in china, same quality), it's completely covering the phone (!) and shipping is around a week.
If it does fit nicely, I know my phone will be covered from every angle.

Had one for my HTC HD2 and it was great. The case was light but solid. The belt clip NEVER came off my belt, and the case never popped out of the belt clip unless I wanted it to, and if you want to switch from the belt clip to putting the phone in your pocket, the 'button' on the back of the case that attatches to the belt clip can be unscrewed and just popped into the belt clip.
They also do leather ones with the same belt clip, and I REALLY cant express how good this belt clip is.
The fact that it comes in 3 parts - the case itself, the 'button' to screw into the back of the case, and the belt clip- is what makes these stand out IMO.

Anyone got this case? It seems awfully similar to an Otterbox Commuter, but possibly less bulky due to the silicon an acrylic portions being joined as one. I was just wondering how it compares as far as shock/drop protection.
**Update 6.29.12**
Got my phone and case yesterday and here's my review on it
Not gonna be long winded here, just short and to the point. The silicone sleeve fits perfectly although the lack of the hard plastic shell extending over the top and bottom parts of the sleeve do allow for the sleeve to be pushed back in those areas if you were to say, put the phone in the pocket of your skinny jeans. Glad I don't have to worry about that as nothing about me is skinny, not even my jeans. Once the sleeve is on, the hard plastic shell snaps into place much easier than that of the Otterbox, and you don't have to worry about trying to get the shell over the buttons like on the Otterbox either. The shell has a matte look and feel to it, looks very sexy and feels good too but the finish is a bit too smooth/slippery IMO. The Otterbox on my Atrix 2 was just plastic and it was much less slippery when holding it. The thing that surprised me the most is how little bulk it adds to the phone and how little lint the silicone sleeve attracts. I wear cargo pants at work, cream colored one's, and I keep the phone in one of the side pockets...the sleeve on my Otterbox would attract lint from them, although it was cleaned away by simply blowing on the effected area right quick. I've had this phone in and out of my pocket all day and it's relatively lint free. With the case all installed the power and volume buttons are very easy to press, even allowing you to hear and feel the "click" of each press, it feels as if you don't even have anything covering the buttons. The cut outs for the charger/headphone jack ports and the microphones are precise and spot on allowing unobstructed access to them all.
The only things I would change is I would make the shell a different texture, something with a bit more grip and I'd add covers/plugs for the charger/headphone jack ports so they are protected when not in use. Other than that, a great case that hopefully won't get tested for durability anytime soon
I'd recommend this case for sure, it's sleek and sexy and adds to the look of this sexy beast of a phone. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 9.

That's the NGP case.. your thread title says Silicryllic which is $29.99.

I checked out some videos on youtube and this case is pretty much their version of the Otterbox, the main difference is this one doesn't have covers for the charger and headphone jacks. Check the video
I think i'm gonna get this case instead of the Otterbox. I liked the Incipio case I had for my Sony Ericcson x10i and since the Otterbox isn't set to be released until July I figured this would be the way to go. Amazon has them for $24.38 shipped
Just ordered mine, should be here by the time I get my phone
Tracking info rcvd! These guys dont play around! At this rate the case is gonna beat the phone

Does anyone have experience with both the SILICRYLIC DualPro Hard Shell Case with Silicone Core and the NGP Semi-Rigid Soft Shell Case?

These were both linked previously. I just wanted to put them here for ease of viewing.
I like how the NGP is thinner and less bulky but don't know if it will provide enough drop protection.
I've had a Silicryllic on a Gnex and HTC Titan...
Very good case for protection, definitely will take a pretty big hit as it has some give in it to absorb shock. Also gives the screen some decent face down protection too as it comes around the side better than most hard cases. It's no defender, but it's much more pocketable on those two 4.7" devices.
The only issue I ever had was the rubber catches more pocket lint than most cases, but that's just a quick cleaning every week or two, or just hit the shirt once a day with it.
EDIT: I'll probably get one for this eventually as I like to have a thin everyday case (already ordered a Rock quicksand) to protect against everyday scratches when setting it down/falling out of hand, etc, and a bulkier one for events, outdoor stuff, or just yardwork/housework/garage days.
Thanks for the link! I was about to pull the trigger on this Candyshell by Speckproducts but they are out of stock of the black so I ended up buying the Incipio instead.

Griffin Survivor!

Just got the case yesterday . Wow nice case. Great fit. The outside shell is a harder rubber so it does get in and out of the pocket without taking itself apart like the Otter. Belt clip is a little flimsy but all in all a great case. Everything works the way it should. Unlike the obex...

AFAIK Griffin don't actually produce a Survivor case for the S3. There are imitation ones that are branded Survivor but are NOT Griffin. How do I know? Cos I've got one lol!

I would say that you won't find a tougher rugged case than this.

If it's the ones I see on there, look at the box, where is says galaxy s3 it should say Griffin.
I would buy from the official site to be safe.

Yeah noticed the box looked different. Most likely they are replicas.
Plus the official site gives you all the good detailed order status. If you create account that is.
Immediately got a confirmation email as well.

Yes it adds bulk.... Any case that offers top level protection well add bulk.
Otterbox defender
Trident kraken
Seidio Obex
Ballistic SG jazz and the HC series (coming soon)
And this case.
All add bulk.
You give up the sleek thin design for mil spec protection.

I just ordered one as well!
I find that the OtterBox cases aren't as well designed as Griffin's Survivor's. Seems that the Griffin team does a better job designing cases, a lot more thoughts go into designing the Survivor cases than the Defenders. Griffin's marketing term is "over engineered".
I've got cases from both companies, for various devices (iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPad, iPad 3) from both companies and from my personal observation… Griffin's cases are a lot more articulate. For instance, the iPhone 5 Defender case (by OtterBox)'s bottom area are somewhat more exposed than Griffin's, allowing moisture to come into contact with the phone. In the Griffin Survivor iPhone 5, it's got this thin membrane that covers the speakers and mic holes.
The thing I find different about Griffin's more recent cases (mid-2012 models) are exponentially more complicated to put on than the OtterBox cases. Perhaps this is a good thing, as you're not expected the case off your phone very often.
Griffin's design philosophy is rather different than OtterBox's. Griffin's approach is to take the device and insert it into a plastic frame, then wrap silicone shell, and then securing the entire "assembly" with front-plate that protects the face of the device.
Different from the OtterBox, where you place the device into a two-piece plastic frame that snaps together, then lastly wrapping it with a silicone shell. I should also mention, that the design on most OtterBox cases are less "water-proof" than Griffin's.
In the iPhone 5's Defender, the camera cutout at the back is exposed; while with the Griffin's Survivor the camera perfectly covered with a flap. Now, back in the iPhone 4/4S model, this is actually an annoyance as you've got to hold the frap with your finger as you're taking a picture. With the more recent Survivor models, they've redesigned this and made the flap pivot to the base frame. Yes, it can be an annoyance if you wanna take pictures really quick (having to open the flap, etc.) but heh… I like Griffin's approach better. This applies to the Galaxy SIII Survivor case as well. If you compare the photos on Griffin's product page, you can see that the back part of the Survivor case perfectly covers the camera + flash, using a flap.
The aesthetics… well, this is a subjective topic. I do find the mid-2012 OtterBoxes cases are more sleek looking than Griffin's Survivor. Griffin's Survivor does remind me of Master Chief though, especially because of that Squareish bumps, hexagonal texture. It's a lot more military looking than OtterBox's.
Where OtterBox wins is the design on their holster. Griffin's holster design is very minimal, as it barely covers any surface.
To put it short, Griffin's Survivor cases covers more of your phone's surface area more than OtterBox's.
One last note: Griffin's silicone shell is also a lot thicker than OtterBox's. I find it a lot more cushioning. But it's also a lot bulkier than OtterBox.
Damn, I should do a full on comparison.
Didn't see an answer to this question. How is the screen protector? Is it the same material as the otterbox defender?

What are some cases to don't suck ****?
I got two for mine, one from PDAir, which is a belt/clip case, and one from tuff as nuts, which is a belt case. The tuff as nuts is great for me because you actually slip it onto the belt - no way it can come off.
Both are leather and excellent quality.

I switch my cases quite a bit. the best for me imo are the Nillkin brand from china. they look very chic and nice. I have the white leather with front screen protector. I had dropped a few of my phones and damaged the screens due to no front protection. Yeah any case will protect majority of the phone, but not the most important part...the screen. ever since I started using thin hybrid covers, never had a broke screen again. The cover I have is thin without the bulk and yet very nice. I get compliments and others want the same for their model phones. Check them out. you can buy almost anywhere ...ebay, amazon. I buy off ebay all the time. even though most come from china, it takes less than two weeks to arrive.

I have to agree with this...
I preordered the HTC One and I have yet to see any cases that I really like. I've kind of settled with the Diztronic Matte case and an aluminum Devilcase bumper. I mean they get the job done as I just need a case that is sturdy enough to take a drop every so often but still be thin/lightweight.
I have to say this is one of my main gripes about the phone... the case selection. (especially compared to like an iPhone)
Received yesterday this one, the Ballistic Aspira in black-lime.
Adds a little more bulk to the One but if you have fear of dropping it accidentally this may be damping well.
Found for 14€ on ebay.
I bought a Body Glove DropSuit and a commuter series otterbox for my htc one. I pretty much use the otterbox all the time, but if I didn't have it, I wouldn't mind the dropsuit. It has easy nice grips and is pretty rugged. I'm not quite sure what kind of bells and whistles you're looking for, but I wanted something that didn't add much size to the phone and would protect it when i drop it.

I'm partial to the BadassCase! Here is mine, needs to be cleaned for sure, but this is after about 5-6 months use.
This is what i use. love it

Wow, I haven't post here in years.
Here is the case that I find looks the best:
ebay /itm/290979521108
It follows the design of the back of the phone itself and is really thin. It may not offer much in drop protection, but if you're looking to for something sleek that will keep you from scratching the hell out of your phone, this is it. It's made of a stiff TPU and is well textured for grip. Feels more plasticy than rubbery but still flexible. Fits as good as it does in the ebay pic too. A really well formed and cut case for dirt cheap. Ships from China but I got mine sent to Illinois in week's time.
The best was the poetic atmosphere but that got discontinued and now impossible to find. I wanted a second one too a blue one

I just picked up a Body Glove DropSuit at Wal-mMart for $16, best case I've had for this phone yet. I got it in Grey, I'm actually gonna go back and get one in black, too. Fits absolutely PERFECTLY, pretty much snaps on over the phone, being a lightly-flexible TPU. I've already dropped it once today, and it bounced once and landed flat. Only thing I haven't liked so far is the volume buttons are hard to push, but that's it. I LOVE it. Super grippy, and the ribbed back and grip blocks down the sides make it totally solid to hold.
This case looks like a tank
I have Official HTC One Hard Shell and im happy with it - bought it through ebay. Saved my phone twice
I have this one , and it is doing its job very well, my one is as new and I dropped it a few times(even face down, some lucky I guess xD)
