Phone becomes unuseable after filling the storage - HTC One X

I've discovered my international HTC One X 32GB becomes very very slow when i fill up the phones internal storage. You need to keep around 5 to 7GB free for the phone to stay useable. I'm on stock rom and asked someone i knew with a one x to try the same and he had the same problem. I'm on android 4.03 software version 1.29.401.11
Do other ppl have the same issue where the phone becomes slower and slower as more storage gets used?

I noticed the same thing but it only happens when I go under 1 Gb of free SD storage. Only occurred on 1.29 and 2.05 Sense based Roms, I was too lazy to try it with CM9

Happened to me when I copied my music over a little over 2.3 k songs, phone was laggy for a while. Music app still goes slow some times.

on base 2.0.401.2 im getting some freezing when i switch from mass storage mode
or access the SD using file manager but nothing more really its not as bad as you describe it and perfectly understandable, i only have 700MB left

I have this exact same problem with my hox. I'm running maximus 2.1 stock kernel. If I go below 4-5gb it crawls. Takes about ten minutes to boot up... The phone basically becomes unusable.

i reported this a couple of months ago, ive found the sweet spot is 1g + anything below 1gb and it will slow to unusable and your battery will be slaughtered very quickly as the phone heats up. im not sure why it does it my desire hd i was able to leave less than 1mb and the machine would still run perfectly.
my g1, motorola milestone, desire hd, samsung galaxy tab, my wifes wildfire and wild fire s all run perfectly with filled to the brim sd cards. why the hox wont is beyond me.

It's doing a media scan. The same thing will happen when you connect it via USB and then disconnect it. If you have seven 4GB MKV files that'll take a fraction of the time compared to thousands of 5,000KB MP3 files. I have a 32GB G-Tab 10.1 and it bogs the same way people are describing when I load it with content for a trip. It also pops up "memory low, remove unnecessary files" warnings starting about 5GB before the storage is actually full. This isn’t any different than people getting bogged down when they have thousands of SMS stored on their phones. And that even happens on Nexus phones. All is not perfect in the land of Android.

na the machine never stabilizes, i done it once to see if it was just an indexing problem - 48hrs later the phone was still non responsive and was red hot.
there is defo something wrong with the devices software that cause it too effectly loop when the sd memory fills. also i could replicate the problem on other devices but they always start running normally after a while

What type of content do you have loaded on your phone? I'll fill mine up later because I'm curious now. I've got about 20GB on it split between small files and some large ones and other than the media scan lag at boot I haven't noticed any slow downs. HTC is doing some funky stuff to get away from MTP so maybe that's the issue.
---------- Post added at 11:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:46 AM ----------
I thought of something else. The XL has only 10GB of user available storage so I'm sure a lot of users have it close to max'd out. They haven't reported any issues. So it's more likely the amount of files being handled than it is bumping up against the physical storage limit.

that was just a few movies, i like to fill it up when we go away at weekends so was uploading a load of movies and tv programs to catch up when sitting around in the evening.
the only other media i have on the device is audible.com books which wont get indexed as they are not files native to android.
ive given up loading movies on the device now and dusted of the galaxy tab to load up which works much better but poorer screen.
i certainly wont ever entertain phones with integral non removable storage / battery ever again no matter how good the phone is. When the phone freezes up there is no way out of it, it can can take over 15mins to connect to the computer just to remove some of the data, loads of missed calls, - just completely unusable. if the card was removable it would have been a few seconds to remove the data and i would have had my phone back.

I had the same issue when i filled up my device with movies, 10 mkv files at 1,7gb each

Same for me. If I go below 3gb the phone is very slow.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

i get exactly the same issue, anyone got a fix for this yet? i just synced my music and is became unusable. usually by deleting the music it works again, this time its still slow despite having loads of free space now. another reinstall coming up. this is becoming very tedious

Found that problem too, and as i deleted som music and stuff i forgot on the sd-card it was running smooth again...
Really wierd tho.

Really.....
We need a thread to explain common sense.
Fill a hard drive up and search for a file take longer to find it.
Go eat a huge dinner and you will slow down. There really is some stupid ass threads in the one x section.

I didn't realise that the storage in the phone was a mechanical drive that was affected by fragmentation.
Learn something every day.

It's due to the sd storage uses FAT32 this format is old now and it always had an issue of any hard drive that once reaches a certain limit it would slow down as it has to search longer to find what it needs incidentally it's not how full the storage more the amount of files on it. Example. If you put 7 MLV movies on it and fill the drive it wouldn't slow down but if you put 3000 songs on it then it would go slow. I tested this theory out myself on several storage devices and results were always the same. A lot of newer sd cards which use HCSD storage loaded quicker than this phone. I don't know why they don't just use NTFS instead you wouldn't have this issue then but linux struggles with that format

They should go with EXT4 for all android phones. I've been using EXT4 on my transformer and it is both faster and less limited than FAT32. Microsoft should just add some support for other filesystems. Not to mention that the phone's internal filesystems are already EXT

Jesus. And I thought the hox had enough problems already.
Surely there's a process running that explains the heat and lack of responsiveness? Doesn't anyone have logs of the Cpu activity at the time of the slowdowns? A simple script to kill the process would work as a temporary workaround until HTC release a fix.

It's not really a process its when you first boot the device it checks the sd storage for any errors, this is part of the android os but if sd full of files it can take upto 72hrs for this scan to complete and this uses all the CPU N memory hence phone is unresponsive. Disabling the check might cause corruption I think a work around might be to partition the sd storage and use ext format to put all your files and leave enough storage for the operating system and apps

Serious memory leaks on the Dash

My Dash suffers from serious memory leaks. Just looked at task manager (because no apps would run due to low memory) and it has just 200kb available.
I have no apps installed on the device itself.
Shutting down all programs returns just 500kb.
If I reboot the phone I get 21,000kb available, but give it time and it will all have leaked away again.
I've had many different WM smartphones and they have never done this.
A great product with buggy software
Odd... this isn't an issue on my WM6 Dash...

Strange. Others are saying the same thing http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=255238&hl=memory (toward bottom of page).
I find that even if I quit all programs using task manager I am not returned to the same amount of memory as when I first boot up. Sometimes it can be as low as half or a quarter.
Guess I'm lucky. I disabled a couple things in the startup folder, MyFav and the voice recognition program, things became a lot zippier after that.

ya i have the same problem ( i de-activated myfaves and voice command) and when i boot up i have about 21K of free memory. a little while later i re-check my memory and its around 18K! towards end of day, even with all programs closed through task manager, i only have about 9K left. i dunno, its ridiculous. now i always turn it off for a few minutes at night, ha but then i run the risk of getting that endless boot up loop....

I also have this problem. One of the reasons I don't like Windows Mobile.
I wonder if it is leaking from IE. My Temporary Internet Folder never gets higher than a few k. On WM5 this could be several megs in size.
Anyone else getting memory problem on the WM6 Dash?
Use Oxios CloseApps...it helps a little
I'm fully resolved to the fact that it's just a combination of an OS that doesn't really manage memory well combined with applications that don't really clean up after themselves well either.
So, to make it through the day, I use Oxios CloseApps throughout the day. It seems to be the best at recouping memory. It's free (bonus!) and is very simple to use. You run it and it tells you how much memory it gained back and then you hit "ok" so it closes. Easy.
I'm also fully resolved that I have to reboot my Dash 1-3 times a day depending on how intensely I'm using it.
Welcome to the world of WinCE/PPC/Windows Mobile/Windows Mobile Smartphone/WM6!
C.
Your home screen plugin can affect your memory usage as well.
I had the same problem with mine which actually led me to return it. It was actually for several reasons, but particularly I felt like I was sitting in front of an old 386 backtracking my steps making sure I don't run out of memory like in Windows 3.1.
For one, I couldn't install the software I wanted to install on it even after registry tweaks and unlocks. The memory leak got a lot worse once I upgraded to WM6. Most of the time after multi-tasking for a bit, my memory stayed around 10MB with ONE application running. If I surfed the internet for 5-10, it usually made the drain even worse by a couple more MB and I had to reboot.
What actually broke the camel's back was when I went to send an MMS to someone and the file was at 356K. No big deal, it gave me the option to resize. Yeah. The resize neverworked the way it was supposed to. It didn't matter how low I picked the options. I picked 160 X XXX with extremely low quality and it would come up with a message telling me "Your message is 356K so it cannot be sent." and plop me right out of the message and I would have to go dig for it on my card again! (Still couldn't resize it though)
I'm very good at managing memory and getting around bugs, but that was just a little too much for a cell phone. Don't get me wrong. I love the phone! I HATE the software/OS! Would've been the perfect phone had it not been for the leaks, even if I couldn't install the software I wanted to!
Wow. I'm not going mad!
They are exactly the same issues as I am having.
maruichan what was the problem like with WM5?

Does it help to stop the memory leaking??
Is it better than oxios?
I don't even look at the free memory- my MDA Mail never slows down or crashes no matter how small the memory gets. I used to constantly check the memory on other devices but for Smartphone it does not seem to matter as much.
When you get a 'problem' with lack of memory it is a problem, otherwise just ignore it...

friends stream doesnt update under low storage

Basically, my desire seems to constantly be suffering from low storage issues due the desires complete inability to install apps to the SD card ... and i only have about 6 apps installed (bring in Freya!!)
I have a cache cleaner but that doesnt free up enough space
anyway, the problem is that the friend stream widget i have on one of my homepages doesnt update when the phone has low storage...has anyone else seen this or know how to fix it?
Yep, I had the same issue a few days ago. At first I was confused as all other data services were working fine, Facebook was also working fine using the Android app.
Had to remove a few apps and Friends Stream starting working again. Phone storage was down to 12 MB; it's been at roughly 16MB since then.
this really sux, ive uninstalled everything i dont really use and still only got 13 or sometimes 14mb left and cant get it above 15.
was there any QA done on this phone at all? Ive got a background in QA and i find it so hard to think that testers could miss this many simple bugs on a phone

*Sigh*....starting to lose faith...

So here's a typical day with WP7.
Wake up, unplug phone from PC. I had left it to sync overnight, because for some reason Zune wasn't syncing a particular photos subfolder (1), so I removed the whole lot and resynced over 6,000 photos while I slept. Found the phone was only half-charged (2). Plugged it into the mains while I got ready for work.
Saw there was an update for Board Express Pro, downloaded it but it failed, as I'm using the trial (3).
As I left for work, I went to hit PLAY on my music, expecting to carry on listening to the music I had last night, but in the dropdown music controls, it displayed just a blank. So I had to reselect the album (4).
On the train, sat at the station waiting to leave, I went to access Game Chest: Logic Games to make my next chess move in the ongoing game against my wife. The phone spent ages starting up the game, then informed me, despite having a 3G connection, that it couldn't connect to the game (5). Tried two or three more times (6). No dice. Decided to try Alphajax, but on starting that up, it complained it couldn't obtain push notifications (7). It asked me to restart my phone, which I did (8). The restart got stuck at the "Windows Phone" splash screen for about two minutes - it normally takes a couple of seconds, so that was a worry (9). Eventually I got my home screen, so I went back into Alphajax and got the same message again (10). So no push updates any more for that game. Went back to my home screen and noticed that I'm also not getting tile updates for either Flixster (11) or Flickr (12). Decided to play a bit of Sudoku (Game Chest: Logic Games). I always use a bluetooth headset, and partway through the game something happened and the sounds stopped coming through (13). I had to go into SETTINGS and disconnect my headset, then reconnect to get it working again (14).
I went into Marketplace to look for an app to keep my ten-pin bowling scores in. I found a couple, but they both keep the scores on the phone with no way to sync to my PC or to the cloud, hence they're useless because if my phone breaks, gets stolen or hard resets itself, I stand to lose the entire bowling score history that I'd have inputted to the app (15). So I knocked up a spreadsheet and emailed it to my phone (no easy way to get it onto the phone (16)). When I opened the sheet on the phone, I found just about all the formatting had vanished and several of the centered headings were invisible (17). So I made up my mind to keep my scores in a notebook while bowling and enter them into a spreadsheet on my PC when I get home. So much for smartphones (18).
Now I'm at work, writing this, and have experienced 18 annoyances with my phone in the space of just four hours.
I am seriously starting to get sick of it.
I think I'm on the cusp of going to try out Android! Save me!
The fact is.. we are early adopters. Yes.
And we all know that we would have a problematic phone in our hands when we bought WP7. Then why did I buy this?
Because I was faithful that Microsoft was not going to blow it up. I thought MS was going to update, fix bugs, and try their best, since they have the nicest phone right now.
It's not the bugs that annoy me. It is the fact that the January update turns out to be an April update (yeah, we are 22 March and nothing until now).
And it doens't fix a quarter the problems that we can found in the list of bugs thread.
I share your pain and frustration.
Yesterday I caught myself looking at Nexus S. I'm worried ;/
Still.. since I've balls, I'll stand and wait some more for MS do something useful in this life (oh, yeah, they do sometimes.. Xbox, Win7..)
Don't abandon us!
I don't believe the phone charges while it is in the process of syncing over USB, only when it is in standby, it has been discussed a few times. If you just synced, obviously it accessed your music, so how can you expect it to have not prevented you from accessing it, it does that as a precautionary measure. The trial issue has been discussed a variety of times as well, It's been fixed in NoDo. The games and push notifications could be device specific, as you're the 3rd person I've seen mention this. I use my SkyDrive to move files, or email, I don't see how that isn't "easy." As far as the formatting, good luck finding perfect formatting on Android...
You see, there's no one thing with WP7 that in itself is enough to make me abandon it. It's just the daily grind of all those annoyances that continually grate on me. I'm always sat next to someone playing with their iPhone or Android or Blackberry and some of the time as I'm whizzing through WP7s tiles or playing with some jazzy app I can see them glance over at my phone....and then I'll almost inevitably come to an app that won't open and I'll have to reboot my phone to get it working and I can imagine them chuckling to themselves as I eat humble pie.
It. is. annoying. The potential is there but there are so many let-downs.

Dude I was just teasing ya! Anyway I think you've missed the point of the thread. I'm not looking for individual fixes / excuses / workarounds etc etc to each of the individual points. My point is, that was a TYPICAL day spent with WP7, and that all these little things contribute to an overall feeling of malaise with the OS. I've tried to put across that I am a stalwart of WP7 - I have had many many WM5 / 6 / 6.1 / 6.5 phones over the years and went straight to WP7 and yes there is much to like, which is why I'm still clinging to it.
I really just want to guage the mood among other WP7 users - are they experiencing similar malaise to me or not? Is it just me?

is this a typical day of your phone usage ? I've seen the bug thread, but there aren't a whole lot of folks posting similar accounts of annoyances... there are threads, but not so many all at once, such a short span of time.
I wonder how long since your last reset, and if you reboot it daily, weekly, or just when it becomes unusable ?
id imagine it this is a typical experience that m$ is working pretty hard on it... with the update getting pushed back regularly.

I did a hard reset a couple of weeks back to cure the push notification issue, but it has returned. I reboot my phone whenever an app asks me to or an app stops working or anything else goes wrong that a reboot might cure. On average, probably about once or twice per day.

The delays in getting the bug fixes are all part of the overall feeling of "meh" I'm getting about WP7.
Obviously you're still very much in love with WP7, which is fine - I wish I was, too, but despite me evangelizing it to all my mates, deep down I don't feel anything like as good about it as I did in October last year.
Actually, I just remembered another thing that went wrong this morning - when I came out of the (constantly crashing) Comica app, the screen graphics went all ape**** and I had to reboot. Again.
To be honest, with this many issues I would be inclined to think that it's a device specific problem.
Do you have any kind of warranty you could claim on?
Sent from my fingers to your face...
I understand a lot of the little frustrations, especially with the update delays, but one thing that did stand out for me is the comment about stability... having to restart your phone to get basic functionality (app launching) going again. I very seldom (less than once a month) have needed to reboot my Focus to get some service or app going again. Some apps do have stability issues for me, but a reboot of the phone doesn't appear to be needed... I can simply relaunch the app in question after it returns to the start menu (sometimes I've had an issue where the app needs a couple of launches to sort itself out).
Are you using a WP7 device with a replaced microSD card, or a Samsung Focus with an added microSD card? The stability issues sound like something that I'd expect to see with a non-compliant microSD card, or some hardware issue with the device. I'm running a Samsung Focus with an added 16 GB card (Ridata, class 6 for the curious), and 20+ GB of space has been used on the phone since Dec., and my device sounds like it is far more stable than yours at the moment.

Well yeah there's a warranty but most of the issues are either with apps or are known software issues.

I usually try restarting the app at least three times before I reboot. Rebooting always fixes it.

TBH, I think this is the main problem. HTC isn't exactly known for providing great SD cards with their devices.
I encountered similar issues on my HD7 but haven't seen them on either of the Omnia7's or Optimus7 currently available to me.

But if it was a problem with the storage card, why would rebooting fix it?
If any data on the card was corrupted, it would still be corrupted after the reboot. If it was a transient read error, then retrying would usually work, but it never does.

I don't know for sure, but I reckon the OS gets bogged down over time. Either due to temporary files or running processes. I didn't investigate much myself as I returned the handset after about a week, but others with certain HTC devices (as well as some DVP owners) have said the problems go away by changing the SD card.
It may also be that it's fixed in NoDo as they have reworked the way memory is accessed. I did however see similar issues in the 7008 build on my Omnia7 - which made me revert to the standard 7004.
Hehe, WP7 is piling it on today. Just tried to download an app.

I think we dell venue pro owners are the experts on sd cards and WP7 The known problem with the DVP crashing when using wifi or returning from standby with a black screen is fixed for a lot of people who swapped their sd cards, though not all. For reasons we cant pinpoint WP7 is spectacularly picky about which cards it works with. I myself have tried 2 new cards and have not managed to solve the crashing problem on my DVP.
Quite possibly you are experiencing the same intolerance to certain sd cards on your HD7 as has affected the DVP and possibly a device swap could fix it. I certainly have not experienced the level of individual application failures you have, and that is with a known crash happy device.
I think I will wait for Nodo and see what happens after. There are some bugfixes in Nodo so you never know. Nodo must surely be coming in the next few days.....right?

Can someone PLEASE help me :(

Hi everyone. I have a pretty serious issue with my device. Whenever I am using it it becomes exceptionally slow and laggy. I was previously on Charmander Rom (which is when it began playing up). The phone took 5 seconds to turn on from pressing the power button. I didn't even have to compare to my dad's One X to realise something was up. Loading apps, menus and animations were extremely laggy. That day I went to sleep with my phone at 100%, when I woke up later it was at 58% and slightly hot. I've flashed a new boot image onto my device, and also a new Rom (Android Revolution 6.0.0) the strange behaviour has not gone away, it is extremely slow and laggy. I also used Super wipe and cleared the cache to no avail. If anyone could help me out here I would be eternally grateful to you. Thank you

(p.S) I used Franco kernel with Charmander if that helps
Exact same issues as you, all started after unlock/flash custom ROM. Nothing worked to fix not repeated full wipes or formats or even RUU.
I relocked, RUUed and returned my unit.
My second HTC has remained locked and has not experienced any such issues.
There is a known filesystem bug (disappearing SD space) that affects anything previous to 1.29.xxx.11, I suspect filesystem corruption happens to some of us whilst flashing / CWM is doing file operations.
Did you guys format the internal storage?
yep in windoze and from device. Improved it but still noticeably laggy. The smoking gun was Antutu IO score went down to 50 (way worse than even my old N1). Hence I'm certain it was something to do with filesystem access

No what i meant was if u formatted the storage before having the lag issues...
That's the only time i had extreme lag myself. After formatting storage for the first time.
But the device came back to normal after a few hours
Hmm, so you think it may be something corrupted? This I can't fix myself. And someone suggested I format the internal storage? Or must I return it?
On further testing, it seems your hypothesis about data reading and storage is right. I've taken a quadrant test, the rest of the results are on average/slightly below, but the one that has been impacted the most is IO, which has dropped from ~5000 to 893. It's even lower than any other phone on the list. Here it is, attached...is there anything that can be done?

No do NOT format the storage!
Did u format it just BEFORE the lag problems happened?
That's what i'm asking

I couldn't find a way and I've been flashing roms since nexus one, across Moto, Sammy, HTC and sony handsets/tablets. So I returned it before my early life failure no questions asked returns period expired. Convinced its filesystem drivers and some kind of irrecoverable corruption on internal SD, or at least not repair-able with a format. Perhaps there is a way of manually doing all the partitions or something but I think without SOFF we can't.
I would try a RUU as a last resort if you haven't already. But FWIW I formatted data, system and storage partitions, then RUUed, still didn't fix.

Very, very low I/O scores

I have searched, and while I've found people posting "low" I/O scores, none are even close to mine. I did read through about 5 threads, just so no one gets angry.
First off, my phone is stock. About four months old, and up until a week ago, it worked fine. Now it is incredibly slow. It takes about 40-60 seconds to open Facebook. It takes about 35 seconds to get a song to start playing. Browsing the web is just awful, and laggy, and freezes all the time. I see the "This app has stopped responding" dialog every few minutes for all my apps. Even launcher freezes.
AnTuTu I/O benchmarks average around 200-300
Quadrant is about 800
From what I see this is much lower than it is supposed to be, and my phone is much, much slower than it was a week ago. I am new to Android, but am kind of wishing I still had my iPhone, so I could just throw my SIM in there while I'm on vacation.
Also, I checked my CPU load, and depending on the time of day, when I turn my phone on, it is anywhere between 5 and 10. Once (with all apps closed), it was 16. That seems insanely high when you aren't using your phone. I remember checking it about a month ago and it was in the range of 1-2.
Thanks for the help, guys. My phone has basically become unusable. I can barely make calls, and texting is so slow, I've basically stopped responding. Forget about doing emails with my phone.
It's still on warranty. Is this possibly a physical problem? Should I bring it back to my provider and show them how it takes a minute to open an app, and then just switch it? How do you back up and Android phone? I know my iPhone was as simple as plugging it into my computer (iTunes would backup automatically).
Thanks a million!
Also: When I reboot the phone, it takes sometimes up to 10 minutes after the lockscreen shows up for it to become usable. Any widgets are "loading", and the homescreens are quite unresponsive. Any notifications show up after 10-15 minutes instead of after 1 minute, like before. If I try to open apps before I let the phone sit for 10-15 minutes, it will not register most of my presses, and the apps often will not even open.
Try cleaning cache or freeing some space on internal SD

How do you clean cache when you'r completly stock?
Anyway, did this appear after you installed a certain app or just "out of nowhere" ? How much of your storage is filled? 10 - 50 - 80 %?

In 4.2,
Settings -> Storage -> Tap on cached data.
In 4.1, I have no idea of doing it without the use of another app.
Some are reporting once you have less than 3GB space, you get massive slow downs with the newer eMMC chips on the newer batch of Galaxy Nexus.

I know, that's why I asked how much free space does he have

In response to some of the questions:
The problem appeared out of nowhere. It wasn't after installing a particular app, and can't be traced back to something specific. I have 3.35GB of free space on a 16GB model, so it is mostly full. I've deleted some videos, so now I have 4.23GB available. We'll see if things speed up.
Also, I am running 4.1.1, so I can't clear my cache. At least I don't know how to clear my cache. Maybe someone can inform me.
Doesn't really seem to help. One thing though, I deleted all the songs from a 10 song album by tapping and holding on each song, waiting for the popup menu, hitting delete, and then okay. I did this to all 10 songs before they started to disappear from the list. So, basically 3MB songs were taking 20 seconds each to be deleted from the phone. I once deleted an album this way when I had first gotten the phone, and each song deleted as soon as I pressed okay.
There appears to be something very wrong with my phone.
i would try a factory reset. you wont lose your items in storage, and your apps should get reinstalled..

Thanks for that. It told me that it would erase all my photos and music. I'd rather not lose my photos, music, and all that. Also, what about my texts? I'd rather not lose my texts.

speaking of texts, do you have an abnormal amount of saved texts? ive heard of way to many saved texts causing slowdowns.
So i deleted most of my texts and changed the limit from 1000 to 400. I don't think I had that many though.
After all this work to try and improve my IO, AnTuTu now gives me an IO score of 107 down from about 250.
I should note that I downloaded the xda app, and it took about 6 minutes to open. It was just sitting at a black screen until anything actually happened.

did you reboot first?
I rebooted and now it's 205. Still worse than when I originally tested it.
Backup everything to ur pc and do a factory reset

Oh my goodness. I did a factory reset. Backed up some things. At least getting (most) stuff back is relatively easy.
The IO score is up from 200 to 882 on AnTuTu.
I guess this is good. I don't know really what to think though. I didn't really do anything specific to "break" it. I never had problems like this on my iPhone. I feel like I'm dealing with a really delicate file system here. It isn't really the solution I was looking for, but it worked. Thanks for the help.
with root, you could have done some basic maintenance, without losing your imported data, that would have fixed your problem. like wiping you cache and dalvik. usually the problem is corrupted data somewhere.
I think you can wipe the cache on stock from the stock recovery

Kind of silly.
iPhone: jailbreak for functionality
Android: root so it doesn't break

Can't tell if trolling or stupid.
If that's the reason somebody is rooting for they need to stay on stock. Rooting is there to add functionality. Jailbreaking adds functionality Android has out of the box.
