[Q] Wifi and CM9 - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
After fresh install of FXP 128 my wifi worked for few hours, but later it refuses to connect to any wifi, because the "signal is too low" or something.. how to fix this?

Actually try getting close to your modem/router first and connecting again or if its still unable to connect reboot your phone

Already did that, didn't help.

Then CM9 probably has an issue with wifi, i guess you'll have to wait until an new RC comes out

Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28442213&postcount=2998
Delete /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list

I have no files in dhcp/

Another wifi problem
I was also having trouble getting wifi to work using JJ hybrid mix 3.1 + Arcknight kernel 3,3 and 3,4, had to use stock kernel
The solution from JJ'to reboot after installing he's kernel didn't work for me.
I've had cyanogenmod 7.2 installed prior JJ.
I've wanted to post this error to JJ's thread under development, but I don't have enough posts made.

I'm sorry for mistake. I used to have some similar funny situation... wifi in my brother's house is protected by WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] and my arc can't connect to him router (authorization problem ?!) . I have the same router and the same protection protocol and in my home wifi works good.
(Sorry for ungrammatical English)

I'm also having a poor signal even when my router is very close to me...I have 2 WiFi routers and from both I get the same issue...I have deleted the files on dhcp folder but doesn't have the dhcp_list folder neither...
I have installed CM9 and previously had SE standard ROM 4.0.4
Any idea what to do?

ICS WiFi

After updating to the final ICS rom I noticed that the WiFi really sux big time..always dropping even when I am sitting next to my router!even more it just keeps disconnecting and connecting every minute..I tried the Wifix manger as suggested by one good friend but no go!nothing improved at all..I thought about sharing my WiFi suffering in case anyone experiencing the same difficulties or have any suggestion to sort this out, thanks alot for any help provided
It happened to me once: it kept connecting and disconnecting. Forget your network then connect again and it should work. If not, reboot the phone and try again. It worked for me and since, it didn't happen again.

Hey There,
i`ve updated my Arc S to ICS today via the Guide here on the Forum. The Problem i`m having now is the following: My Wifi Connection on the Phone won`t wory anymore. More specifically, the connection with my Wifi Router. The interesting thing is, that it worked just well, before i updated to ICS. In the Wifi Tab it says "Authentification Problem".
I`ve rebooted my Phone twice, resetted the Router, unplugged the Power Source but nothing seems to work. Although i can connect to another Wifi located nearby, I can`t connect to mine.
Any suggestions I haven`t tried yet?
Thanks in advance.

Hey josephnero,
the fix seems useful, but how do I install .apk files without any kind of File Manager or Connection to the Internet?

Do you copy & paste the wifi password?
Had the same problem and found out that during copy&paste I get one unwanted space so the password is wrong.

Jack, have you tried forgetting the network and trying again? Are you able to connect to any other WiFi?
I would also check the security its trying to use, ensure that it's set to the same on your network.

Hey, I`ve tried all the possible options that are there. The main Problem I`m having now, is how to install .apk files onto the Phone without a Wifi, Bluetooth Connection. I wanted to try the fix that was mentioned earlier, but I can`t install it.
What about USB? Or a sd card reader? Failing that do you have a data plan?

Yeah, USB I do have
But still, how do I Install an app onto the Phone/SC Card? The Phone is rootet and I have Superuser rights. Yeah, and I do have a Data Plan, but the Volume is used up.
Then just plug the phone in set the phone to debug mode and allow installing from unknown sources and push the .apk into /data/app and check the permissions. You do need to have adb from the SDK though. Have a look around on here their should a how to.

Avoided poor internet connection

It started today. Everytime I try to connect to my WiFi connection, it goes in a loop of connecting and disconnecting and finally it says "Avoided poor internet connection". After I click connect, the signal drops from maximum to 1 bar. I'm on Arconium ICS, but I've been using CM9 before and I had the same problem (that's why I switched to Arconium). This issue seems to be present in all the ICS ROMs. Any idea to fix it?

There is another solution made by Mike Duskis at android.stackexchange.com/questions/22848/what-does-avoided-poor-internet-connection-mean (xda forums won't let me post the whole link). The solution involves deleting the files inside folder /data/misc/dhcp
Assign Fixed IP address
Hey i had the same problem on both Stock Rom and CM9...i did delete the files in the DHCP folder...but the problem kept showing up every few days....but i solved it completely by assigning a fixed IP address to the network...on both the router and phone
so this is it
Your device manufacturer/model : mito a300
Your mobile operator : XL,simPATI (dual gsm)
A dump of system log messages. what message?
Your ROM information : sorry i dont know, but i use stock rom
What you've done and what's not working : turn of wifi and turn it on,do same with the router, wipe data (phone) , reflashing, and use your apps :crying:

Turn off WiFi setting
What has worked on several of my android devices and my Win 8 computer is:
go to "Settings" and turn off the wifi. Wait 30 seconds.
Turn it back on and most devices will quickly connect.
A simple fix for the devices in my house. Good luck!

Wifi - i have to get this fixed!

Iv had this very annoying wifi problem for maybe a couple weeks now and i just really wanna get it fixed ASAP...
anyway im using...
-MooDeD 90.7 (ICS)
-Baseband .72 + libs flashed
-KTG anzu v1.41 + wifi modules flashed
everytime i go to settings and turn wifi on the "on" button doesn't turn blue and all does is say "scanning for wifi" and eventually goes off again
iv tried Wifix which hasnt worked and just need to get this problem solved, thanks in regards for any replies which are posted
Ummm have u tried other ROMs?
In my experience, there are reason may cause the error you mentioned:
1. Missing of wifi modules (Seems you have flashed it)
2. Some ROM may overrides the wifi module (Not sure for this, I'm still a newbie here), just try flash the wifi module at last every time
3. Tried MooDeD 90.7 (ICS), remember some choices in the AROMA may cause the wifi issue(Not sure either:fingers-crossed: chaos forgive me)
So my suggestion is....try another ROM first. Then you may address the roor cause.

or try
just delete dhcp list and reboot phone
use root browser lite from google market, navigate to root: /data/misc/, delete dhcp folder, reboot phone.
change kernel.

Router crashing with new Jelly Time rom

Hey guys,
I tried searching and could not find a similar problem.
Since getting the new rom I have noticed that my wireless router has been experiencing connection issues. all my devices show connectivity but i dont have access to the net. Anyways i decided to have a look and the android is creating multiple Ip entries on the router with the same mac address and everytime I turn the wifi off on my phone the problem does not occur.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Why don't you try binding the MAC Address to a static IP so it's no longer able to create multiple entries on the DHCP Table?
tjturko13 - have you tested to use another standard 802.11 Modus - instead "n"? Just switch it at your phone or router.
What router do you have? Can you update the firmware? ^^

i dont think my router allows this, the only option I have is to specify if I want to allow mac filtering.

Did you get your new rom over the air? (Stock rom)
Or did you flash a custom rom?
You have to give us more software informations about your rom. Is your device s-on or s-off?
Stock rom you need the right RUU exe file. Just doubleclick - yes yes yes
Custom rom you need to download the custom boot.img.

Working:
Wifi Tethering
camera - not perfect still buggy
Mic
accelerometer
audio
bluetooth

I'm sorry for you.
- You could even try to change the wifi-channel to 1, 4 or 6 and disable wifi-security in the second attempt for test only.
- Try also to set a static ip in your phone (for your wlan).
- If you are bored you can reset the whole router to its factory defaults and leave all standard. Just enable wlan (and the isp connection) - but dont change the default ssid, wlan-security or channel etc.
Otherwise I have no more ideas.
With google you can find dozens of users crashing their routers with android or ios phones . Good luck dude!

Ive had this problem to since switching to 'randomblame's kernel based ROMS (jellytime CM, jellytime aokp and jellytime by PACMAN - Paranoid, CM and AOKP).
Apparently it is a kernel issue and the only thing you can do is some of the things above or here
I was here hoping there might be a fix... I tried static IP, changing the router channel, WIFI never sleep etc etc etc.
The only workaround I found so far was to turn off wifi when Im done, it only seems to break when the phone is inactive for 5 minutes +.

Exact same problem here. It took some time before I figured out that my phone was overwriting my gateway's MAC address, but I finally saw that message from another machine in my network:
Code:
arp info overwritten for 192.168.1.254 by 91:31:58:5d:e8:34
1.254 being my gateway's IP. I also tried giving my phone a static DHCP entry but it just didn't change anything. Any useful sysctl maybe ?
FWIW, it seems I "fixed" that issue by making my routers MAC address association permanent on my (manageable) switch. That obviously don't fix the real problem, but does not shut down the router's NIC. FYI, on a GNU/Linux machine, this is done with the arp command, i.e.:
Code:
# arp -s 192.168.1.254 00:ca:fe:ba:be:00
192.168.1.254 being your router's IP

i'm going to borrow this thread, i have wifi problem too, yesterday i got connected to cable network, so now my router setting are on automatic dhcp-for cable, before was pppoe and that worked great, now on that dhcp can't get wifi to work, i can find my network and connect to it, but it's no internet. on the same rom and everything i got wifi working no problem, so the only problem here is that dhcp.
edit: my sister is having the same problem on samsung s8500 running bada and before network change he can connect to wifi with no problem, not it's the same as for me.

You should install the WiFi modules, that can be downloaded from same place as the ROM itself.
