AT&T GS3 Force 3G = Signal loss - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

As the title implies, I have forced 3G mode on my AT&T GS3 in an attempt to save battery life. At this point, I'm just testing to see how much better it is with LTE off. So far, the results have been pretty promising.
I used this APN to do it:
Name: AT&T US
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Username: <not set>
Password: <not set>
Server: <not set>
MMSC: <not set>
MMS Proxy: <not set>
MMS Port: <not set>
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: <not set>
APN type: default,supl,agps,fota,dun
However, I noticed that I now occasionally lose signal in strong signal areas. The signal will just drop off for a bit, then come back. It's similar to how the Nexus GSM model was periodically losing signal. I have installed the "No Signal" app to track the occurrences and they seem pretty regular. I also removed the proxy setting from the above APN and the results are the same.
Trying the HSPA+ APN (below) results in the phone defaulting to LTE anyway. Anyone have another APN I can try, or any insight as to why this is happening? I'm aware that I could just go back to LTE, but I get pretty fast HSPA internet where I live and I'd rather have the battery life.

I do, actually, but thanks for asking anyway.

I appreciate your attempt to get a good force 3G operation working.
After trying your APN, I noticed that it was just staying on H+.
I tried the other link posted in this thread and it seems to work better in my location (New Jersey), although it still switches between H and H+.
Although I appreciate bravomail for posting the link, I don't think the derogatory comment was necessary.

[Q] MMS Receive Fail From iPhone Users

Hello again XDA,
I seem to be unable to receive MMS messages from iPhone users but experience no issue when other T-989 users (Girlfriend) send me MMS messages. I only mention iPhone users as the only people who have iPhones have tried sending me MMS and they always hang and never download. I can't confirm this happens with any other model phone. Are any of you NexusMOD users experiencing this issue ? Any suggestions would be great.
Thank You,
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
check your APN settings. But ICS build has some draw back like this since they port from AT&T
shankar10, where can i find APN information? i'm having the same issue as the OP. for me though its AT&T as well as iPhones

AT&T gs3 Signal Problems

I have searched here and google and tried about everything but I cannot find a solution. I have been having a problem with my at&t gs3 not picking up a signal, it will have bars sometimes with no data, then randomly drop all signal together. Sometimes I can get 4g after initially changing APNs, but it always drops out after a few seconds. I did get it to stay on edge for a little bit, but that also dropped out. This started right after I rooted the phone. I then installed Task's ROM, first the ICS then the JB version, to see if that would help, and it didn’t. I went through several APN settings to see if that was the problem, nothing gave a solution. So I tried returning to complete stock through Odin and that didn’t fix the problem either. I was getting full 4g before I rooted it, so know the problem was caused in the rooting process. I just want to know if there’s anything I can do to fix this, or should I just try and return the phone now that it is back to stock? Here are the APNs I tried, none of which fix my problem (the x in the hxxp are t):

This, can someone help with this?
Edit: the HSPDA one worked for me. It was the last one I tried...

Funny, I'm having the same exact problem also. I came across this thread looking for a stock image to return my phone back to stock to see if that helps.
I'm on Task's latest build. I even reflashed the modem to see if that helped but no luck.
Have you found a solution to this?

Best T-Mo APN?

Originally purchased a T889, was happy with it, but the development was a bit slow, so I returned that one, and purchased an Int'l N7100. Which APN settings should I be using on the device?
I am in DC were supposedly the network will be branded, or has already been, so I should be able to at least get the 3g I believe.

Useing Non LTE data on the At&t Sony Xperia Ion Lt28at

Sup guy's I learned a good way to use the Standard Data on the At&t Sony Xperia Ion LTE 4G
First I flashed my At&t Sony Xperia with the Generic International firmware LT28h this gave me a way to clear out my Apn's so I could use the Apn setting's I used off a Motorola Atrix 4G and removed all the AT&T bloatware , Now once I flashed the new LT28h firmware you will go thru the normal set up it will ask you what service you want to use and so on , when you get done with all of that and are at normal home screen go to setting's , below wi-fi you will see goto the option more , and then mobile network's and finally goto Access Point Names now enter the APN's below.

i have att ion flash to international rom and filled in the settings still no luck on any mobile data do you have an idea how i can get it to work im on a go phone plan with 2gb of data and i cant use it
Recheck you apn settings the four son's must be correct and punctuation must be identical one mistake can cause it not to function properly. An easier way is to go with H2o wireless prepaid works great on my ion and is full 4g everything works perfect. It works of att mvno 60 plan you get. 3gb of data.
Not worth it.
Xperia LT28AT has LTE radio and there is no way you can manage it with LT28H firmware. The net result is LTE radio staying on throughout and drain more battery. It is a better idea to flash LT28i firmware since it has LTE support and controls.
