[GAMES] Nexus 7 Gaming Thread - Nexus 7 Themes and Apps

Figured since some of us already have their N7's and most will be receiving their toys in the next week, we can start discussing gaming!
Holding the tablet itself, i can tell this is going to be a comfortable gaming experience, i think the bezels are just right and the weight is great for extended holding periods.
What games are you planning on trying out first?
What are some games that you want to recommend?
What are some games that you are looking forward to?
We can also discuss game compatibility, game controller solutions (wireless and wired), and other :highfive:

I know the first game that I will be installing and playing is Dead Trigger. It's got zombies and stuff... 'nuff said.

I currently have FF3 on my I/O but will add ME;I & Shadowgun THD when I get my 16GB.

Watching them demo Horn during the keynote was very impressive. Unfortunately it's not currently available and I can't find any information as to when it will be

I came close to finishing it but restarted the game after I found a cheat for it. Now that I have unlimited money, it isn't as fun anymore. It didn't take long to get near the end.

I want FF3 so bad but can't justify the price.. yet! haha
I'm going to install 4 games first, in this order... GTA 3, Max Payne, Dead Trigger, and The Amazing Spiderman!
Horn, the game that was unveiled at the I/O looked so cool, really looking forward to that!

The very first thing i wanted to do when I got home with my Nexus 7 was download and play NOVA 3, and of course it crashes every time at startup. So disappointed. Knowing Gameloft it will be months before they make it Tegra 3 compatible.

dead trigger and heroes call, cant wait! got my wired 360 controller and a ps3 controller so i have choices.lol

GTA runs great compared to on my Gnex. Max Payne took awhile to download but runs great!
I want to test out a PSX emulator and an N64 emulator sometime tomorrow!

+1 on this. Cool thread. Can't wait to start trying some tegra 3 games. I'm into rpgs and fps. Been playing max Payne on my evo LTE and its damn good. Wanna try on n7. From past experience with xoom, fpse looks to pixelated on tablets but I'm sure ill try it. Runs great on my phone tho for both ff7 and ff9.

N64oid and FPSE, I wish i had a Wii controller to use over bluetooth.
For FPSE i tested Diablo, THPS2, THPS4, Spiderman 2, Dave Mirra, Spyro, Tekken 3, and Gran Turismo 2 (crashed)
For N64oid i tested Starfox 64, Mario Kart 64, and Super Smash Bros.

Anyone know if there is a way of using a wireless Xbox 360 controller on the N7? I have the wireless receiver thing and I'd like to use my controller if I can, but I don't really want to buy a wired 360 controller just for my tablet when I already have wireless ones sitting here.

Yeah I didn't think so. Oh well, I'm quite happy playing Starfox 64 on this thing so that'll do for now

I wanted to buy Machinarium with the Google Play credit but it's not compatible with the N7 yet :/

Just paired my PS3 controller via Bluetooth through Sixaxis Controller. Works like a charm, i might put together a quick guide how to do it.
Made a custom mapping profile for GTA 3 and planning on making one for all major games specifically for the Nexus 7
I'll upload them here of course :good:

Has anyone tried the N64 emulator on their G2 yet?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Yes, I only got zelda working on it. The sound is very choppy and it locks up quite a bit. It's a great start though. I'm running CM7

Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna wait until super smash bros is working to buy it.

Yeah... I was playing zelda ocarina of time too. It locks up on saving sometimes but the developer who put it out is the best emulator developer for android. I have total faith in his work so it will be pretty darn good in the next few weeks/couple of months... the G2 can handle it for sure.
F ZERO x RUNS effortless, anyone know of a good shootemup?
Oh and also what's everyone using apart from emulator roms?
Cheers guys
I absolutely love this!
Games that work perfect: Super mario 64
Games that work good: Mario kart 64, pokemon stadium 2, smash bros
Games that work "ok": Zelda, ocarina of time
Games that refused to load: paper mario(probably bad download)
Also, can someone help me on setting up a wiimote with the game? I've dowloaded wiimote controller from the market, synced my wiimote and classic controller, set it as my default ime, and remaped them in the n64oid settings. It detects the keays just fine when mapping them, but when I push something on the wiimote while playing a game, it does nothing.

In n64oid settings go to other settings and check "use input method" and it should work. Hope that helps.

You can use a rom finding app to download them straight to your device or you can download it and send to sd via pc.
The legal upside to it is that you are supposed to own the game that you download and these roms are "backups"...lol

Yeah, they're the best out there. This one is new and will take a while but it will be perfect soon enough. I remember the sega and snes took a lot of work but they are perfect now. 64 bit is harder to emulate but it can be done with higher end phones like the G2/Desire Z. Hell, look at PS1... its almost runs almost perfectly after several revisions. Just takes a lot of work and time... woth the wait and a few bucks
I'm amazed at how well the emulation is with this first release. I've been playing only LOZ: OOT using my Game Gripper and it's awesome. Had to remap the buttons a bit but I found a configuration that works pretty okay for me
Can't wait for more releases. The big stink is that there are some FC's so I have to constantly save states.
Pokemon Stadium 2 is a little buggy D:
LOZ:OOT should be fking sweet to play.
Forsaken runs nearly perfect with the phone clocked to 1.5GHz, maybe less. Looks and runs like a native game.
Really needs wiimote or some such for controls though.
Super smash brothers works fine on my phone, are you overclocked? all the games run smooth when you are at 1.5ghz
mario kart and super mario 64 both work great.
donkey kong 64 does not however :/ it's as if the screen is the wrong size.
Zelda TooT runs smooth at 1.8 ghz

EMULATORS

Hi people
I been trying out all sorts of different emulators to find ones which best suit the phone. I come to a conclusion that emulators for super nintendo and sega megadrive and anything else which is based off of 4 button and d pad controllers are the best playable on phones. obviously people will want to try and get the most up to date graphic games emulators but i found without good game play these do not matter. but i was hoping that everyone who uses emulator could share their own opinions in this thread for people who are looking for the answers that myself and others once did
i cant seem to find a sega master system emulator to work on sgs2 if anyone knows of one please let me know. snes9x ex is great for super nintendo and its totally free from the market
Im using 2 emulators now,
FPSe for PlayStation 1
N64oid for Nintendo 64
They both work well, though not perfect. On the FPSe I play Final Fantasy VIII, Tekken 3, Tony Hawk 3.. Quake 2 is weird to play, Metal Gear Solid doesnt work for me.
On N64oid I play Zelda Ocorina of time, which again works but not perfect. Some graphical glitches and sometimes crashes. I also tried Mario 64, Zelda Majoras Mask. Super smash bros doesnt work
So overall they are great, but I really hope the devs will start optimizing these emulators for the Galaxy S II!
Oh, and good thread. There should be a big thread emulators in general.. At least. Maybe seperate thread for each emulator.

For me it's not so much the system but the game. For example Mario Kart on snes is not great as it's awkward to use the "bumper" buttons to jump round corners. Whereas Diablo on PSX works perfectly control-wise.
It's all just trial and error to see how controls translate to touch screen devices.

I'm on VillainROM 1.1 (KE7) so maybe that's the difference (I've also got Chainfire3D installed)?
Controls are actually pretty good and it's quite playable. No lag or anything. It's more fun than any game Gameloft makes that's for sure
*accidentally thanked you too, lol. you can keep that *

Games on the GNII.

Just started playing minecraft and GTA 3. Amazing processor speed . I wasn't much of a gamer on the SG2 ... but this phone has changed it for me. Any suggestions for good games to play that will take advantage of the quadcore processor and 5.5 inch super amoled?!

Im going to recommend Rayman Jungle Run, It doesn't necessary take avantage of the quad core processor but it just simply looks great and sounds phenomenal.
Another game I recommend is Beach Buggy Blitz

I've been playing Final Fantasy 3 on mine. Not the best quality graphics but still fun. Found a game earlier called Dead Trigger and its definitely an intense game that runs well on our device. They said it has optimizations for tegra 3 but on the highest quality settings I found no stutter or lag.
lets keep this thread going..i wasnt a gamer on my previous phones due to battery life but on the note i am playing games so lets keep this thread alive !!
Fifa12 runs really well on it. Xplane and F-Sim space shuttle are amazing. Has anyone noticed how sensitive the accelerometer is?

Shadowgun and the accompanying multi player beta work great! The Sims freeplay as well. The entire asphalt series, star/pocket/other legends, order and chaos, and quite a few others work amazingly with this exynos.

Personally game wise I would suggest playing with some emulators. FPSE on the market is an awesome PSX emulator. Also if you go onto slideme market you can find n64oid which runs a treat on the note 2.

Some emulators bring their own methods for acquiring roms, others you have to get them from a third party source. I prefer the latter, they are easier to find and more accessible

Just to cool your expectations, you will not really be able to play games using the HDMI out I thought I would do the same. The video out is a processed clone, though, meaning 1/3rd to 1/2 second delay before it gets to your TV (plus whatever your TV settings add). Requires you to turn off overscan as well. Also, it forces an upscale to 1080p 30. Aside from not being very smooth this scaling slows the device a lot; games that run flawlessly without HDMI connected turn into slideshows even on the device. All said and done, it is cool for watching movies but not for much else, even browsing is painfully unresponsive.
I saw a video of NOVA3 and that looked really good. Ive played Dead Trigger as well. Black Ops Zombies is out on Android too. Then of course Plants vs Zombies and Peggle are always great.
Love wargames and ski safari
I wasn't much of a gamer on my Nexus S 4G, but as with most people, this phone's changed that for me. I've been playing Final Fantasy 3 the most, followed by a few simple games like Cut the Rope and Dice with Friends, then of course there's the emulators. I find it incredibly ironic that I can use FPse on this phone to play Spyro better than I could play it on the Playstation Vita(considering Spyro STILL hasn't been released)
FPse runs like a dream on this thing, same with n64oid. Last time I really messed around with emulators was back when I first got my NS4G, they've come quite a way since then. I'm still not too keen on using the on screen keys, but I bought an iControlPad 2 off Kickstarter, so hopefully they'll have those built soon and I'll be able to use that.
I found that a few games don't seem to work with the GN2, 3 that come to mind are Plants vs Zombies, Peggle, and Asphalt 6. I just upgraded from Asphalt 6 to 7 in order to solve that problem, but it's unfortunate that PvZ and Peggle don't work...

How do PvZ and Peggle not work??? Are they completely incompatible? Or do they just look really stretched?
I highly recommend the bards tale. It was a huge hit on the xbox but I never had one. You owe it to yourself to try this game. At 2.99 this game is a steal.
Also since it isn't a fps the tv out might work better. I don't have a cable or dock yet so I haven't tried it.

Got a chance to play Shadowgun on my 70" TV with PS3 controller tethered. There is virtually NO lag whatsoever. Not sure where you get you specs for video out or what type of MHL adapter you are using. You may have alot of TV post processing turned on.
I bought a generic MHL for $10 on ebay and it works fine. But DO NOT buy the claimed OEM adapter on ebay that is in a samsung branded box and have a sticker taped on for the model. The fake adapter even says SAMSUNG on it but is counterfeit. Got my $15 back on that through buyer protection.

[Q] N64 Emulation

Hi everyone.
On my Note 2, I have NES, SNES, N64, and PS1 working very smoothly. On my new Nexus 7 (2nd generation), I haven't been able to get N64 working smoothly.

When I use the Slimport adapter and try to play on the TV, it is a little bit more laggier. And that is the case with the entire tablet, not just emulated games. Anyone run into that issue?
I got the Nexus 7 so I could use two six axis controllers and play all the old games on a TV... but for some reason, the Note 2 handles games better.

Game Controllers for the Nexus

Anyone have any good suggestions on one of those new "Android Controllers" that you out your phone into and it'll work with certain games?
I recently downloaded Sonic, and have a big interest to playing it on my phone, as well as GTA, but I can't stand using my fingers on the screen, as its either too small of a screen for fat thumbs, or my finger dries up and it feels like it drags against the screen because of the heat.
One other thing is the compatibility. What games would and wouldn't work with the controller? Do I need an extra app for it to work? Ideally, I would love to download a psx emulator and play my FFVII again, since I doubt they will release it on mobile OS anytime soon.
And lastly, what about using my Xbox One controller? I won't go out to buy a ps3 or 360 controller, because then I might as well buy the ones they make for the phones.
Thank you in advance!

And lastly, what about using my Xbox One controller? I won't go out to buy a ps3 or 360 controller, because then I might as well buy the ones they make for the phones.
Thank you in advance!

Moga Pro bro. I have one. Its all you need. Don't get the pocket - its too small IMO to feel like an actual controller.

But what is it compatible with? Could I use it on sonic as well as a psx emulator? What kind of games can I not use it on?

Regarding certain apps, it is compatible with some actually. I'm not sure which Sonic game you're referring to. It its not compatible with Sonic Dash, but it does work with Sonic CD Lite, for example. I just know that because it is explicitly stated in the app's description. The best way to know which apps the Moga series (there's 4 out currently but the Moga Pro 1st generation is more than sufficient) work with is to read the description when you download the app usually.
There's also an app that the controller comes with, on a slip of paper basically, that you can download and it lists Moga compatible apps. I forgot the name of it but just search for Moga in the play store. I'm not sure how often its updated so I've personally never relied on it...
For emulators, I haven't came across any popular emulators that ISNT compatible with Moga, or any other Bluetooth controller. To use a PS3 controller, for example, you have to be rooted, which is one reason why I recommend sticking with a Moga Pro.
I currently play Power Stone Collection on PPSSPP flawlessly. It takes a bit of configuring to get the controller and button mappings to work depending on the emulator, but thats easily done with a bit of googling or youtubing. But yes, the Moga Pro is definitely compatible with psx emulators (especially the major 2, epsxe and the other one...)
Yeah, I recommend the Moga Pro simply from the standpoint that it is the most compatible with games. If a game supports any controller it's probably going to support the Moga. The Moga Pro Power is usually cheaper than the original Moga Pro since the original was discontinued.

It has a better clip for the phone and a better d-pad, plus has a large rechargeable battery that can power your phone if you want. I don't use the charging capability but the extra weight from the battery gives it a better feel (less top heavy).
You can connect the Moga in a generic Bluetooth controller mode or the "Moga" mode. I honestly haven't found any games that support a controller but don't work in the Moga mode. Some more obscure emulators may require you to switch it to the generic mode and configure the buttons manually, but I haven't found any.
Whats the difference between the Hero and Pro version, and why is the Hero 40 bucks more expensive?

The diff is the battery capacity. Moga is THE controller lol. But I have the Kickstarter Drone Controller which I really like as well. I played with the Moga and that is the go to, but I am a casual gamer and after the impulse controller, I didn't expect much from the Drone, but I was surprisingly wrong lol.

The Hero is a smaller form factor. It drops the "handles" so that it can be tossed in a bag more easily.
The reason it's more expensive is that it's backordered from Amazon so you're seeing a third party seller who is ripping people off. If you order it from Amazon it's only $40.
I recommend the Moga Pro also... It works great with Dead Trigger 2, MC4, Dungeon Hunter 4... Download the Moga Pivot app to see exactly what games are compatible.
