Not sure if this happened before I dropped it at Christmas or not... BUT...
My volume button is sticking out at the bottom. So the end that lowers the volume. It's all good up the top. Any ideas how I can, or where to get this, fixed. I'm in Sydney.
I opened the battery compartment to have a look, but there is a void sticker over one of the screws. So don't wanna go there unless its a guarantee fix.

Same problem here.. I can't find replacement part so I have ordered from ebay for shocking price for smallest piece is 19$ :S

anyway, can't you just push it in? give it a lil force until it snaps back into place. let me know what happens.
just noticed that I can increase volume on my DHD, but can't lower the volume. restarted it, thinking that it might be a sw bug, but it still doesn't work.
is this the issue you guys are experiencing?
hope it's easy to solve, since I'm in Brazil and bought the phone in Germany.

André, i really don't think so...
I'm getting same trouble, the button works fine, but the down side (to decrease volume) is a little out, if compared with up side that stays closer to the frame, looks like a "seesaw"... i believe you got a hardware issue...

I have same design issue. Upper part of button (volume up) is more inside the phone and volume down part sticks a bit out.
Still buttons work as they should.

I don't exactly have same issue but close.
My volume rockers work, it's just they both are sunken to bottom and haven't that normal touch i've seen on other DHDs
Kindda nasty. Has anybody went to HTC to fix that? I'd love to know before sending... or not
yeah it seemed so for mine too.. but then i dotn have much problem with mine ..
Had a similar problem for me within first 14 days of my contract, just sent it back and got a replacement under warranty with orange. Maybe HTC or your carrier can do the same thing.

Got kind of the same problem, my volume down button is not nearly as responsive as my volume up button.

my volume button popped out, doesn't sit flush and keep catching.
Added some glue to keep it held down, need to fit a replacement! Anyone know how to?

Fixed my volume button
I had the exact same problem with my volume rocker, the bottom part was sticking out but the top seemed all right.
I've just fixed it with a bit of glue and by only removing the battery lid.
For what it's worth, here's how I did it.
If you remove the battery lid you can gently pry out the loose end of the volume rocker, just a little so you can see what's supposed to hold it back.
There's a piece of plastic glued to the bottom of the volume rocker that's come partly undone.
I just put a toothpick between the case and the volume button, so it's sticking out.
Then I used another toothpick to get some superglue on the loose piece of plastic.
After that I removed the first toothpick and pressed down on the volume button for a bit.
Now it's all tight and snug like it used to be.
Be careful with the glue so you don't glue the rocker to the case or something.

Had this problem, bottom volume became almost completely unresponsive and has really been bugging me for a few months now, so today I took the whole aluminium volume rocker off, slightly different experience to the post above.
Basically it's constructed pretty poorly, the aluminium rocker forms a latch at the top which holds onto the body of the device above where the button is seated.
The bottom of the rocker then has a plastic flap which is glued into a hole to hold the rocker on, this flap had more or less come off for me, seems very poorly manufactured, so I pulled up more and the whole button came off.
The actual volume buttons themselves are very small and these are seated in the housing of the device between this latch at the top and the plastic flap at the bottom. The rocker has two pieces which push down on the buttons to operate them.
Some dirt and grime had built up in there so I scraped that all off first with the head of a Phillips size 00 screwdriver.
I put a very small balled piece of paper on top of the volume down button and it's now working fine again, I just need to glue that flap back down so the rocker doesn't come loose. If the piece of paper is too big the volume rocker won't go down at all so you have to get the size right, relieved to have a working volume button again though.
search the forum, someone wrote how he fixed his button using a bit of superglue. it works like a charm. basically the volume rocker is held onto the phone with a rubber base. with time the rocker comes unglued from the rubber base. if you use something thin, like a toothpick or a small cutting knife you can insert a very small amount of glue between the 2 and glue them back together. just don't overdo it with the glue or you'll end up gluing the rocker to the body! i did it on mine and now it's as good as new

It's a cheap fix AFAIK, should be a few $ in your local phone shop. It's quite a common problem for our DHD, Thankfully I rooted before I broke my volume rocker (been living without one for 5 months now).

Some M8 phones have the problem of the power button getting stuck in the plastic around it and thus keeping itself pressed.
In this case you see this on the screen: "to restart your phone press and hold the power and volume up buttons for 10 seconds."
OF COURSE you can get this fixed through warranty.
If you don't want to do that cause you don't want to wait, you can do what I did.
(I am not responsible if this doesn't work well for you and I guess that after this procedure they won't replace the button for free anymore)
Steps:
1. Get a flat screwdriver. Heat it over stove, but not until it.s red, just until it is a little hot. It's better to heat it a little, try it, if it doesn't work heat a little more and so on. Otherwise, if it's too hot, when you touch the button it will melt everything around it and way too far into the button.
2. Put the screwdriver on some surface and keep it steady with the end sticking out. Hold the opposite side of the button a little pressed so that the part of the button that catches on the plastic sticks out.
3. Bring the phone towards the screwdriver carefully so that you melt that edge of the power button just a little bit. Just melt the edge, so you give it a slope like this / , not the entire side of the button.
Finally, you should get the same results as you can see in my pics. It's barely visible that the button has been tampered with and for me it's way better than waiting for weeks for the warranty to repair it.
Cheers and be careful not to get that screw driver too hot or too far into the button.
LE: be careful that the IR blaster is on the left side of the button, if you look at the phone from the front. In my case I had to melt the right side which is about 3/4 lengths away from the IR blaster. If you melt the side of the button that has the IR blaster in it, I'm not sure what would happen. The IR blaster should be fine, but the curvature of the button that you add by melting might deflect the light. Not sure.

And your IR is still in order no damage from heat etc?
The IR is fine. It's on the other side of the button. It's about 1/4 th of the button. so 3/4 distance away from the melted part.
Not sure why this is a problem as the button doesn't seem to go far enough in to cause this problem, however it's not something I would do. I would have just got a small thin implement and just added a little Vaseline or Petroleum jelly around the sides of the button, making sure to work it down the sides of the button. That should be enough.

Here is the real question. Why does this suddenly start happening after owning the phone for 2.5 months and it never being dropped. What has changed is I started using the Dot View Case right before this started happening.

So, my Nexus 7 took a swim. Fortunately it was a quick one and I was able to recover it quickly and it found it's way into a nice dry rice bath following.
There it sat for a few days until it was nice and dry. Power it on and blammo -- tries to boot into recovery or safe mode.
Fast forward to my best understand of what is happening -- it thinks the volume rocker is being pressed 100% of the time.
So, anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on what I may be able to do? I guess I'll have to buy some sort of replacement part -- but presumably it's not a modular component I can simply replace.
Think I can just 'remove' the volume control entirely?

Just to be clear we're not talking about the plastic buttons protruding on the side of the tablet. Inside, barring some short on the circuit itself or fried components(this you can do by inspecting points of contact on the ribbon, the inside of the connector and the soldering traces at its end), the amber ribbon consisting of power, volume and microphone can be removed from the bezel by very slowly scraping the double-sided white tape underneath it from one end to the other (if you use a thin blade, make sure you insert it between the tape and the bezel and not between the tape and the ribbon itself).
Once out, you will notice that contact is made when the thin round metal plates are pressed together. There are 2 layers. If you again carefully peel off the upper layer (transparent mylar or film), you can see if anything is stuck in between (water or vapor), or that one plate is depressed permanently that it would make contact all the time.
The rest is just a matter of pushing it back to the normal position and realign both layers. Usually, there would be enough adhesive left for them to stick together without your having to add more.

Hello guys.
I bought a new LCD assembled with frame, and new power button/fingerprint sensor.
All components are back in place and seem to work, but the power button does not always return in its position, especially when pressed on the side and not perfectly in the center. Sometimes it remains pressed causing reboot and bootloops. I had exactly the same issue with the previous frame and button, so I think the new components are not defective.
I think instead that the metal clip that holds the button in place and makes the spring effect for returning it in position (see pics) has lost elasticity.
What do you think about it?
I couldn't find the spare part. Could you point me to some dealer (maybe on Aliexpress/ebay)?
