AT&T Exchange Policy? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I found this problem with my Galaxy S3 screen. It has a weird spot on it where the oleophobic coating doesn't exist... ..I've only wiped it with warm water, like suggestions say, and it seems to have come like that. Water and steam, and finger prints, all gather there. Creating an annoying rainbow effect in the fingerprints.
I was wondering, if I asked AT&T to replace it, would that be my 30 day exchange/return? I actually bought the phone from Costco, hoping that, maybe, the Windows 8 phone would come out, and I could, possibly, get the Windows phone. Since Costco has a 90 day span, rather than the 30 from AT&T, I was wondering if returning it to AT&T, likecostco says to, if within the 30 days, will not allow me to possibly exchange my phone a month or so from now?

I believe that would be a defect and it wouldn't start a new 30 day return policy. Honestly, they may tell you to deal with Samsung for a warranty replacement

Check warranty before anything
Before anything I would high recommend going on to Samsung's website and see if you are still under warranty.
My phone was "broken" too and before I did anything I was lucky enough to still be under warranty.
Please check before making any purchases

I actually work for Samsung and set up warranty repairs for phones the phone is OOW by condition. there will be a charge to fix, which is right about $160 to repair. but it creates a 90 day warranty on the device.
you can call

Who's your carrier and did you buy insurance ? For 7 bucks a month T-mo will replace no matter what or how something happens to your phone, including loss, (or kids). Last I checked $130.00 deductible, but for a 500.00 phone I'd say worth it. Just be sure they don't try to palm off a refurbished phone to you.

LOL, my kids are the same way with my phones and tablet, but I let them play on carpet and in the car ONLY! If there's a chance, they already know the answer.
I'm in the same boat with a cracked screen, does anyone know if there is a resin of some kind. Also I just had this phone swaped out by tmobile and I might be able to play a warranty card. This would be a really good bussiness if someone could come up with a crack screen resin . I have serched and only found one you tube video, but they are not selling a product.
My carrier is Telus..But when I purchased the phone I didn't need insurance cause it was for me.
Then comes the new Samsung galaxy nexus so I got it and gave my son my s2x...1 week later he.drops it
I'm waiting for a few friends I have in China to see what they can do

I just recently cracked my screen on my phone and I had it replaced. I had hd2 before that and I dropped on the ground and I had it replaced. T-mobile works with Asurion. I'm sure Asurion will ask you for the deductable which is about 130 dollars so go ahead and give them a call. They send you another phone by next business day. Make sure you explicitly request a new phone. 866-268-7221. This is Asurions number for tmobile clients.

Do you remember where you got the part? I am having a hell of a time finding one. I am looking for the lcd and a screen replacement for a decent price. The only one I found was $130 on ebay.
They go for about $65 used, grade B-C. New ones are $100+-, MAKE SURE U ORDER THE RIGHT ONE! These phones can be completely taken apart and reassembled in less than a half hour. Any questions, hit me up.

Yeah, u can buy NEW, but as soon as u turn it on....ITS NOT NEW ANYMORE! A "fully working" used one is just as good, believe me, I fix about 6-8 phones a week for fun and also so my friends dont take their phones in to get fixed just to get taken for hundreds and hundreds of dollars when IT DOESN'T REALLY COST THAT MUCH TO FIX PHONES.

Used display
Some S2 used displays have a dead pixels or gray lines. Which is getting worse with the time. Mine looks like "zebra" especially in the cold weather. So better to invest in a new one. Ebay has it for about $100 now.
Just FYI.
A new screen is roughly $90-100 on Flebay. I won't be fixing the t989 I found in my Pile 'O Junk, as it still works fine. Could probably buy a whole new one for that price.
However, the LG E970 with the broken glass and digitizer is going to get a new display... for only $75.
I got 2 t989's with serial numbers about 200 apart, both had cracked screens, I bought a new screen for (at the time) $145, then id swap motherboards once in a while for kicks, then my buddy wanted to buy one so I put one together all complete, damn near brand new condition, and noticed when people called they couldnt hear us (him), like as if the mute was on. Also, I shot some video with the camera and was saying TEST TEST 123 and played it back and couldn't hear anything. Any suggestions?

Sometimes I Really Hate Samsung

Usually not, but damn. Last week my original GNex had it's radio's take a dump. After 11 solid months, I rebooted one night and had data, but voice never came back. So I put everything back stock and walked into Verizon and paid $15 to have a replacement overnighted to me.
Now, a week later, I've come to the conclusion that my replacement is fubared. I've never seen a device experience sleep of death + turning into an oven so quickly and consistently before. It's good for 30, maybe 60 minutes tops before it craps out. This is awesome when your phone is your alarm clock.
So here I go again, getting ready to waltz back into the Verizon store and do the same song and dance again. Pay $15, get a phone on Tuesday, probably have something massively wrong, rinse and repeat. Hey, devices take a crap from time to time, and luckily mine did while still under warranty, but I'm taking picks on how many replacement units I have to go through before one finally sticks.
My guess is the 3rd replacement is a charm. Who wants the over?
Those of you who have gone through the replacement fiasco with Samsung, how many tries did it take you to get a good one?
Why do you pay when you have still warranty?

Shipping to have it overnighted. It's also awesome that my local store doesn't toss out loaner phones while you wait (It'd make it easy to avoid that whole shipping thing). Maybe I'll call Verizon Tech Support just to bug them about.
no issues at all with mine...
I love Samsung personally
OOOh, free overnight shipping. Thanks Big Red!
Hopefully the next one is a charm because honestly, I don't know what I'd do without a Nexus device on Verizon's network. The alternatives make me cringe.
why is there no option for none
Read the last line of the OP.
I'm just curious to know if getting bum replacements is a "normal" thing because for a phone that went through a "100 point inspection", well, they dropped the ball on this one.

Getting my third in the mail tomorrow Last one had ridiculous sensitivity issues, we'll see what the next one brings.
And why don't you just call em up instead of going in to the store? I keep my phone and they send me a refurb in the mail. The first phone was USPS, but after that one was crap they began overnighting it via FedEx.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I went through 4 before I got my refurb, then I promptly sold it for a GSM model. That's one thing that I have to hand it to Verizon for, they were really good once I got the 1st defective one. I had 4 at one time, most overnighted at no cost and no fees or holds.
They did try everything they could to not send me one though... Unlike Google who were more then happy to send me multiple N7's.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I had to replace one because of dirt under the screen even though its new and heat issues, the replacement was perfect and never get hot under normal use. I also bought one recently and it has heat issue and poor screen as well, but I'll live with it for the price. Its sort of a luck thing with this device, especially a lottery with AMOLED screen. I was going to get the N4 but it seem to also have lots of little issues on its own, such as getting too hot, I really hate phones getting overheat.I'm still waiting on confirmation on the USB OTG too.
After reading this it makes me think I need to bug Asurion tomorrow, I had to get an insurance replacement so I have to go through them for warranty now, they are definitely more strict on some things but like 3 minutes of complaining about signal got me a new one once already. The current one gets EXTREMELY hot under even normal use, so hot that it is uncomfortable to hold and definitely would be uncomfortable up against your face.

The first time I went in, I was hoping that they'd have one in the back they could swap out for me, or a loaner phone (fat chance, I know). My job pretty much requires a working cell phone. I'm kind of surprised that Verizon was so willing to send a replacement out in just a few minutes. Granted, I don't know what alternative they'd have. There's no real way to troubleshoot SOD issues. My main concern is just not having to go through a massive fiasco running through multiple devices, especially with an 8 day vacation coming up.

Well, if it's still under warranty, I'd jump on it.
Let's see... My first nexus has a seriously bad screen. I shipped it out the same day I got it. Got my replacement (#2) and the screen was worse than the first one. So I sent that bad and got another one (#3). This one had the same issue as OP. Radios wouldn't work....no voice or data and the phone got really hot. Enough to where I couldn't hold it to my face. So I sent that one in and they sent me a Samsung Stratosphere (#4 replacement). Sent that in and got the nexus I currently have making 5 replacements (4 with nexuses). I also went through Verizon...
Good luck
I had to replace one about ~8 months ago for screen ghosting. I was really satisfied with the replacement until now because the ghosting is back on the replacement. I'm contemplating switching to T-Mobile though, so I dunno if I'm going to attempt to replace this one.

Well that sucks. My screens have been great. Well, that, or I'm not picky. The second replacement seems rock solid so far. Good data speeds, strong signal, solid screen, solid GPS and no SOD/Overheating. Maybe I've lucked out...but I'm not uncrossing my fingers.
I've been through 5+ Nexi already. Tec Asurion is totally worth the $6.99 per month! Free overnight shipping FTW.

Need help making a decision...

Hey everyone.
Need personal opinions as I cannot decide for myself -.-
Recently got a warranty replacement device from T-Mobile.
It's a refurb.. -.-
My old one had a weird smudge in all camera apps as well as in the picture. Really annoying.
Well I got my refurb, it's got it's issues, 3 "ink" spots on the screen, my original had zero! I cannot undervolt by more than 25mA. My original could under volt by 150 across the board. The refurb gets very hot (approximately 100 degrees Fahrenheit with normal use) my original hardly ever broke 90. And my battery life is freaking **** with this new device. (I'm guessing heat is the issue here)
I'm really ****ing upset. Excuse my language..
The decision I cannot make is this.
Do I request T-Mobile to ship my original device back to me(it's still in transit just dropped it off today), and either 1 deal with the camera smudge, or 2 take apart both devices and swap the camera modules?
I looked all over YouTube, I cannot find anyone saying there is a warranty sticker covering any screws.
Does anyone know if they can tell if the device was disassembled? I have professional tools so I won't leave markings behind.
Simply put, I hate this "new" device.
I don't understand why companies give refurbished devices for warranty when I am paying full price for a brand new device that should last at least a year. It's not my fault something happened that was out of my control..
Thanks for putting up with my rant lol.

Wow, that's though. I send in my Device to samsung for a fix, and they fixed it with a "replaced PBA" comment, but I saw some people say they just send another one. Hopefully it's not a refurbished. I doubt they will be able to cancel the shipping, but if they an, most definitely swap the camera modules. Having those problems on the refurbished sucks. I could have fixed mine but I sent it in hoping Id get another one which didn't die after 2.5Hrs screen on time and 12 hours running time. Switch out the cameras if possible. I myself, if I get a bad one on saturday, I'll hate my descision but Im going to go for the 16GB nexus 4. Hate the limited storage and the on screen buttons that get in the way, but heck I'm not going to live 2 years with a faulty device

I can understand your frustration With my experience working foe Tmobile and having done countless warranty exchanges since the my touch, they will not return your original device. Unless you cannsomehowncontact ups and have them stop transit and send it back and return the one they sent you. You should contact tkobile again and tell them what happened. Afaik they will not return it back to you. When it gets to their processing center it'll get factory reset, processed and possibly put back up as a refurb if it passes all their tests. You do have the option of requesting another warranty exchange, possibly going to retention this time or a higher tier of tech support.

Thanks for the reply. I was wishing to talk to someone who works for them. I really hate the newer one they sent me. What the hell is wrong with people?

I took my phone to an official samsung showcase booth (literally a huge one) at the mall today. I asked a guy if his note 2 creaks because mine does very much. He took off the back cover and put it face down on the table, reapplied the back cover by pressing it on the table and slid the phone around in the process, and gave me back a screen full of scratches. He said "Nah, that wasn't me. The phone has gorilla glass." and walked away.
I call AT&T to attempt a warranty replacement because of poor build quality. They tell me that it's a sign of physical damage and I no longer have any warranty at all because of it.
So now I have a scratched note 2 that was once spotless and a crappy carrier that won't replace it because of Samsung's poor quality control.

SHould have stopped the guy and said, "hey wait, dont do it that way." I mean, I would have.

Get hold of Samsung online and let them know what happened. Hopefully you got the employees name. Tell them the location and what he did. I'm sure they will replace your note 2. Never call AT&T for that type of crap. They don't care as you found out the hard way.

I unfortunately didn't get his name, he didn't have a tag on. He was the manager though, and I know when he was working. One rep said "here speak to our manager, he might be able to help."
If this works, time to download triangle away.

Ask him if you could see his phone. Test out how well it will handle a 50 foot throw across the store. Then walk away. Done..
Seriously though, I'd be pissed. Id say 90 percent of the people that work in stores like that don't know anything about the products they are even selling. That's why I hate going there. They talk to you like your a child, meanwhile I know more about the stuff that they make a living selling. Blows my mind.

Did he have little tungsten shards on the table while he was doing that? I wasn't able to scratch my screen with a dinner fork.
Get your screen wet and scrub it real good, you might just have residue from whatever was on the table on there.
He had "brushed off" the table pretty roughly beforehand. I couldn't quite identify fine grains, but I know for a fact something was on the table. I'm a phone freak. I've never dropped or scratched a single phone because I intend on reselling them. The scratches he left are "twist" shaped or "ribbonlike" which directly relate to the sliding and twisting/panning motion he rotated the phone on while it was on the table.
Does anyone know who at samsung I should email? I don't think general support would read or bother working on a resolution to this issue..

I just emailed Samsung's 'Voice of Customer' department with a lengthy, descriptive, and fairly intense email.
I'm waiting on a response, I'll update everyone as soon as I get it.

I've never used screen protectors on any phone. I haven't had a display scratch either, I baby the hell out of my phones. I never put them face down either, idk why he wasn't smart enough to realize the potential damage when he did it.
He wasn't really chuck norris either, looked more like wiz khalifa Imo.
Well, here I am now trying to get this cheap screen protector to go on right to at least cover up the scratch lol.
I hope samsung does something about it, I'm really pissed.

Ok I read thru everyone post.
Now my option for phone replacement if the scratches are not that bad. But to a phone guy like you sound like. Which is like me a minor scratch is a scratch. But not sure what state you live in.
But I would take it to a AT&T service center! http://www.att.com/esupport/article...=Warranty exchange locations#fbid=ysg3jCpnQgp
And tell them the phone keeps turning off on you or something. And they should send it thru some trouble shooting and may just replace it for you. But make sure you tell them that you really need a new 1. That's how I get mine replaced if I run into a problem..
But noticing that someone told you that your warranty was void. Not sure if they told you that at a store? But you were referring to a rep & a Mgr, so I'm sure you were at a AT&T store! Anyway if they didn't enter nothing in the computer about your phone and you have insurance on it you can get it exchanged at the service center. I've even taken a phone there that was messed up from flashing a bad Rom!
Just my 2¢...:sly:

seriously, I would file a police report. Sometimes you can do it online and it gives you more credibility.
I was told that my warranty was void by AT&Ts warranties department, as well as Samsung when I was connected to them by the rep.
I hung up and called again to repeat the process and the next rep said my warranty was void as well due to user damage.
I may just file a police report...

Wow that's crazy there. And you said that the Manager did this. Was it a corporate store? You know that makes the difference. When getting something taken care of. Personally I only deal with the Manager's when I'm doing anything in the AT&T store. I've even gotten a few rep fired for messing around with our account. Because we get a 50% discount on accessories. lol
I hope you get your problem fixed soon. Cause if it was me someone would be getting fired for carelessness. And me getting a new phone. Sometimes you have to go above& beyond. Meaning contacting corporate.. An e-mail goes a long way. To the right person.
Also you were mentioning, screen protectors. I use these and there absolutely Crystal clear!

If you hang around these forums often enough, you'll realize that there is a cult of users here that believe that using a screen protector is for the devil... Or some sheet.
Edit:
I also use the same as banjanman as well. I like them a lot, comparable to Real Look. And they have an offer going that if you leave a review on Amazon, then follow their instructions to tell them that you did so, you get another pack of 3 for free.
So, 6 sps for $10.. Not bad.
Not a store but done over the phone. The warranty rep spoke to a supervisor who gave him this answer, and he said that the store would do the same thing since it's been 2 months and not within 14 days. I got this repeated to me by two reps on two phone calls.
Thanks for the tip on those screen protectors, I'm about to order them myself to cover up the scratch and put one on the replacement if I ever end up getting one.

Well, my hope is that they didn't make a note on the account about the issue. So that maybe you can use the "my phone is messing up and I need a new one" story. But the probability is not in your favor.
Every time I call they ask me to hold so they can take notes for the account. So If I have to, I go to my local AT&T... Which is full of ex-walmart employees.
I don't advise it, but I've seen some intentionally brick their phones and blame it on the software update. High risk factor though.
Are you saying that this incident with the damage happened 2 months ago??
The incident happened today, a few hours ago. I meant that I've owned the phone for 2 months (and I had creaks since day 1), and I should have swapped it out for creaks within the 14 day 'buyer remorse period' according to the rep.

Broken plastic trim

Factory defect or are they going to say I caused this? the phone was never dropped and shows no signs of being dropped. I can only assume this is a result of taking my phone out of the case often. I have a tech21 case and I do take the phone out daily. Either way T-Mobile said they would credit me the charge if any. I just wanted to get some ideas on how this happened and what you think they will say caused it.

Well it's plastic, weak plastic for that matter. I remember that my Note 2 trim was damaged from removing a stiff TPU case a few times.
Maybe Samsung should quit producing theses phones with plastic trims.
Mine broke in the exact same place yesterday. I haven't used a case much at all but I did think that when I have the taking in and out might be the reason.
I never got insurance with t mobile so didn't think about taking in. I guess I can live with it for now. Maybe put a case on

That type of breakage is from user error.

And that post was from an idiot. Unless you can prove your comments please leave them to yourself. Still laughing as I finish this post. I Used the phone to make calls improperly..... my kung fu grip is too strong?
.....but your the one with a broken note 3. Now it's ugly lolll good day to you sir ?

True, I dinged my volume rocker to the point that it bent. Took it back to Costco (you get 90 days return there) and swapped it out for a new one. I hated just knowing my volume rocker was dinged on a brand new note 3.
My advice working for tmobile tech support (the guys that exchange your phone). Your worrying too much, this is a manufacturer defect. They will not charge you a out of warranty fee as long as the rep notes that it NOT user error.

The Rep was some old lady that i have to repeat my name to 3 times. I don't even think she understood what the exact damage was. Good thing is she said i would be credited if i was charged.

No matter how many times you may throw insults, the fact of the matter is, that damage is from user error, and now you'll be receiving a refurbished phone that someone else probably abused, like the one pictured in the 1st post lol. Good luck on your refurbished phone ?

How's the new one you got?
Mine lasted 6 months not a scratch, no chipping and worked fine until this happened over the weekend. if it is happening it to everyone in the same place its a stress area that wasn't picked up during testing. I can only assume it had to do with case removal. Can someone else that did not have this problem confirm they did or did not remove the phone from a tight case on a regular basis? A store rep looked at mine and asked if i sat on the phone which I never have.
How did you get your phone replaced? Does t mobile have insurance for this sort of stuff?
Grande Note 3
Not trying to be a [email protected] but if you broke it from removing a "tight" case, then it's your fault. If the case was other than an official Samsung product, it's your fault. It's a defect if you open the box and the crack was there, or suddenly you looked at it and the breakage manifested before eyes without your intervention none whatsoever. Anything else, it's user error!

I have a business account and have been with tmobile for years so the gave me a one time replacement free of charge. As far as explaining to them how it happened i have no clue. User error ks hard to phathom because these phones should me able to be taken in and out of the case i bought from tmobile. I am not even sure thats how it happened because it did not break in front of my eyes. Good luck. And to the troll if a refurbished phone bothers you how do uou have sex with women other than virgins. That beat up ***** has got to bother u more than a previously used phone.
Well now I wont be surprised in the future when this happens to my phone too.

In my statements, I never implied any similarities between women and material objects, YOU did! I place women on a much higher pedestal than that! I'd also like to add that I've never had a problem accepting a refurbished phone over a new "only" and "only" if I know for a fact that it'll be a greater gain for me to trade in my original unit which I know has only been used by me. You on the other hand allowed your phone to get borked. Next you come here and post photos which clearly shows the breakage was caused from some type of stress or tension applied wrongly, which you are responsible for, and you wanna shift blame and yell defect! You defected the phone by not being careful as you should've. But hey there's no reason to be mad. You got you a refurbished Note 3 which more than likely most of its mileage are from the previous owner's bathroom usage, but I guess we'll never exactly know that, but hey as long as it works, right lol? ?

I've not had this problem. I rarely take it out of the case. Pretty much the only time would be to do a battery pull which is seldom. Case was a slip on type which is fairly tight.
No breaks on any parts so far and I've had the phone since Oct. I don't use the Stylus often either though.
