Sprint PS3 Controller -wired *Now Working on Some Games* - Galaxy S III Accessories

OK, so I've hijacked enough to want to create my own.
Stock Sprint S3 (two actually) and I cannot seem to get PS3 controllerS to work. 2 Phones, 2 Controllers, 1 USB OTG (known good, works with flash drives perfectly), Several USB cables. Tried the JoyCenter test app and it also shows no movement on the controller. USB reads connected, controllers power up (flash "slowly") but have been told I should see a "control box" that never shows. My phone has had all kinds of settings tweaked (although still not rooted), so figured I would try the wife's as hers is nearly out of the box and got same results as I figured it was something I did or changed.
Tonight I will be going by GameStop (new/used game store) and seeing if I can try one of their controllers to make sure I didn't somehow buy two counterfeit controllers (bought from two sources locally and do not have PS3 to test although I saw one working on seller's PS3).
Any ideas/tips/suggestions/etc?
-Have charged the controllers overnight to make sure they were full charge as well.
Thanks so much! DYING to get this working and I'm leaving on road trip this weekend, which would be PERFECT to have this working!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO GET IT WORKING!!!
OK, well after some incredibly frustrating days of trying to get this to work... I think I have it solved. Well, at least for some games.
I got it working on ShadowGun perfectly. NOVA 3 I am still working on, Emulators seem to work as long as you don't need the right analog stick.
*I know VERY VERY little about programming and the such. Just enough to root phones and "acquire" apps.* That being said, apparently Sprint S3 does not play nice with PNP. I plugged, it didn't play.
NOT ROOTED
What I needed to get wired PS3 controller working:
PS3 Dualshock 3 Sixaxis Controller
Mini Male => USB A Male cable
USB OTG (On-The-Go) Cable
"PS3PairingTool" App **I know this is for wireless per the app's info, but this is the only thing I got the controller to read and MUST keep the cable connected. Can turn BT off once controller is fully connected**
"USB/BT JoyCenter" App
Finally, how to connect them up:
1. Plug everything in (Controller to USB cable to USB OTG to Phone)
2. Open "PS3PairingTool" and let it find the controller, click and "PAIR"
3. Once paired, open "USB/BT JoyCenter" and then let it find the controller, select the controller
4. Press the PS button on the controller, light on controller should now go to "1"
5. Test the controller to make sure buttons are reading
6. Once in ShadowGun (for example), you will need to assign an action to whatever button you want
7. Click the THANKS and/or Donate to buy me a much needed drink after hours cursing to figure this out!
8. ENJOY!!
As I said, I know just enough to be dangerous, so if you're having any problems LMK and I'll see what I can do. I am still working on getting this 100% and possibly finding an easier way to hook it up while not having to Root.

My guess is that isn't an original controller but a aftermarket had this happen before
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Xparent ICS Blue Tapatalk 2

ok, fair enough... but two controller from two sources both fakes?
Thats why I will be seeing if the store will let me just try one of their used controllers they know are legit to see if it does anything else. I will be very upset if BOTH of them I bought are fakes!

FYI, I think I just verified Sprint doesn't allow the wired method. 3rd known Legit controller, same results.
EDIT: DLed the PS3 controller connectivity app and it now reads, but none of my emulators will use the buttons. Anyone care enough to help a moron figure out mapping? *I WILL POST HOW I DID WHAT FOR OTHERS WHEN COMPLETED!*
EDIT #2: I got all working on both controllers besides the right analog stick. In the Joystick app, it reads, but not a single emulator will let me map or read this stick at all. Ideas?

Seems like sprint traded native ps3 controller support for google wallet... haha...

any ideas on how to get the right analog stick to read elsewhere besides the connectivity app? it reads when testing, but nowhere else

The Sixaxis or how ever it is spelled app over bluetooth should work.

only if rooted... and i am not

Then root?

dont want to for now, want to try and keep it stock. Thing that gets me is every other button is working fine, just not the second analog stick. USB/BT Joycenter should be able to map the second analog differently to fix it, right?

I apologize in advance for necroing this thread.
With that said, I'm having a incredibly difficult time getting my PS3 controller to work with my Sprint SGS3, stock. For Christmas, my husband got me a GameKlip with the wire so I wouldn't have to root my phone. The wire has micro USB on one end and mini USB on the other, so one end for the controller, one for the phone. I can skip the USB On The Go cable.
After purchasing two apps (I'm getting a little impatient now tossing money away), reading instructions like that in the original post, and having the pairing tool not work, I'm at a loss. When I have the phone and controller connected, all 4 lights on the top of the controller slowly flash on and off. And when I go in to the Sixaxis Controller app and click "Pair Controller" nothing comes up. It's as though it doesn't see the controller at all.
I have the controller set as the default input device on the phone as well as the gamepad enabled in the app. The BEST part out of all of this is that most buttons on the controller natively do control the phone. The start button acts like the home button. Triangle and Circle are the return/back button. Cross is the confirm button. And the d-pad/left analog stick navigates through the apps/widgets/pages that I have on display.
I just can't get the thing to work natively in a game. Even when I create .map profiles, it doesn't work. I also have the USB/BT JoyCenter app and it sees the controller connected via USB. But when I try to map buttons, it doesn't seem to really do anything. And the controller still does f'all in games, regardless of what settings I choose. I'm assuming I'm missing a step or two somewhere.
Any help is appreciated. I'm about ready to send the GameKlip back and just play how I used to.

Sixaxis Controller wont work on my N7

Hi guys, im new at xda, actually im new at android. Got an Nexus 7 wifi, and i just bought sixaxis controller and a dualshock 3 sony controller.
Im having a lot of hard time configuring sixaxis. Gona describe it (sorry for my bad english)
Controller Model: CECHZC2UAa1
Device: Nexus 7, wifi, 4.2.1 Rooted stock jb
ok, my controller has already my N7 bluetooth address, checked and double checked with the pairing tool. i open the app, then press start, it says listening for controllers, plugged the controller with my otg adapter, pressed "Pair Controller", then it says master address updated (sometimes i try this and it wont detect my controller, and im not sure if i have to do this everytime i wanna use it on the same device) then i unplug and press PS home buttom, all the 4 red lights blinks fast on the controller, sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes less, but nothing. Heres come the real odd things, if i plug the controller again, and i do the pair controller step again, and after it says master address updated, i unplug the controler and then REAL QUICK press the PS HOME, thats when sixaxis controller actually finds something (worked 2 times, could use the controller and all) but right now it just says "Maximum number of clients already connected)
and no, there are no more ps3 controller or anything around. Once, a few tries before this, idk what i did diferent, but i got it working but, my controller turned the 4th red light, not the first one..?
anyway, if i try to pair the controller without doing the "pair controller" step on the app, it doesnt do anything, but it shows "listening for controllers", nothing else.
In resume:
1-Cannot pair anymore (could do it 2 times, and tested all fine, even mapped touch profile alright)
2-Sixaxis Controller seems to think there are 4 controllers connected already, "Maximum number of clients already connected"
3-Some times Sixaxis Controller detects my controller pluging it on USB, sometimes it doesnt.
4-It wont detect my controller bluetooth when it says "listening to controllers" unless i press "pair controller", plug my controller, wait to get Master address update message, unplugging, and then pressing PS home, wich will take me to item number 2.
Im not sure what to do here, Any idea? (already tried to contact dancing pixel from their webpage, but still no answer)
Have you tried clearing your Sixaxis settings and repairing again from scratch?
You're doing it wrong.
Clear the apps' data (I'd go ahead and uninstall and reinstall.) and re-pair the control to your ps3. Just for the sake for starting over. Then open the six axis app. Make sure you get a pop up asking for root permissions, grant it. Then hit start and once it hits listening for controllers. Stop it. Then hook up the control via USB otg. Hit pair control, allow it to control the USB item... Let it update the address. Then once that's done unplug everything. Then hit start once its on listening for controllers... Hit the PS button. It should then pair.

Are you downloading the sixaxis PC app and entering in your N7s MAC address to the controller?
I would also just clear cache on the sixaxis app or just do an uninstall/reinstall.
Once mine does the initial pairing, getting consecutive pairs are easy breezy.

Hi, im sorry for late response, and thx for your replies.
Ok, still have same problems. i will describe it now with screenshots
This shows my control has the right address

Sixaxis Controller:
so, when it says listening for controllers, it blinks all the four lights, but i get no message or anything on the sixaxis controller app
btw, i cannot "pair" my controller with the Pair controller option inside Sixaxis Controller app, it wont recognize my control. Already checked my otg with another gamepad and it worked, so the otg is working, and tried 2 diferent usb cables, still no success. (actually i could pair it a few times using the same cables trying a lot long time ago, but then it just stopped working).
Update:
Did a wipe of anything related to Sixaxis from my tablet using root Explorer, reinstalled Sixaxis Controller. Now, i can pair using the Pair Controller tool within the app, i get "master address updated" all fine, but then, still cant get it to connect with my controller, but now sometimes i get "Maximum Number of clients already connected".
You'd probably get better feedback from the actual developer.

EDIT: Sorry, saw you had already posted there.
Also, is your controller an original Sony Sixaxis, or did you buy a cheap third party controller? Those typically don't work with Sixaxis App.

Thx for your reply, yes, i even mailed the developer but with no response yet. Yes, its an original dualshock 3 controller Model: CECHZC2UAa1, and like i said in my first post, i actullay were able to use it a couple times before, but not easy at all, just after a lot of trying and pairing over and over again.
this is frustrating. Hope developer gets a new update out soon.

It might work.. i would also suggest maybe trying another kernel? Maybe Franco Kernel? Maybe even a custom ROM seeing as the stock 4.2 ROM is buggy for whatever reason.

have you charged your controller? this happened to me when i was trying to pair my sixaxis.. the 4 lights starts to blink then it will suddenly stop. tried eveything from installing, reinstallin even paired it using my laptop. when i connect my sixaxis to my laptop and use an app(forgot the name of the app) the 1 indicator is lit up so i assume that it has juice. so i tried again to pair in my N7 but same thing happened, 4 blinks and dies. Then when i hook up my sixaxis again in my laptop I noticed that its not charging because the battery indicator is not moving. I tried two other cables since I don't have my ps3 in my current location to charge but it still doesn't charge just 1 single light. When I used my last usb cable the sixaxis started charging, left it to charge for a bit and boom! It was paired with my N7.

I just got a sixaxis controller yesterday and was running into the same problems. Can't explain exactly what I did to get it to work (works every time now over the past ~20 hours) but it did start working after I reset the controller.
Take a paper clip or other small object and place it into the small hole above the top right corner of the model # of the controller.
Hope this works for you.
Ty, yeah i have tried reseting but i still get the "maximun clients already connected" message. Btw, i manage to get my control working in wired mode using USB/BT Joystick Center app. Still need to get sixaxis wireless sorted out

Might be the Bluetooth connection issues many nexus 7 users are experiencing on 4.2+.
I for example cannot properly listen to Spotify through my Bluetooth speaker set without stuttering every 5 to 10 seconds

I'm having the same exact issue as jmvzla. I can provide much, much more information, as I know exactly why it's happening. The only problem is I don't know how to fix it. I've been able to recreate the issue on three separate PS3 dualshock 3 controllers.
Here are the steps I performed to cause the controllers to work, and then stop working via Android (however still work just fine via a PS3)
- Purchase PS3 controller
- Plug PS3 controller into PS3 (I hear this is required so the PS3 can first attach its MAC address to the controller)
- Start up Sixaxis Controller app on Android to get MAC address of bluetooth adapter
- Plug PS3 controller into my Windows box and use Sixaxis Pair Tool to pair controller with MAC address of bluetooth adapter on Android
- Start the Sixaxis app on android and turn on the controller (I had two in my case, and both paired, with 1 and 2 player LED lit up on each controller respectively)
At this point, I was able to configure each controller using keyboard emulation. I was also able to configure the right analog stick as a mouse, with L2 and R2 as the left and right mouse buttons. Everything was working excellent for a few days...
Until I let the batteries completely drain on each controller. Once that happened, they won't sync up again. I now get the "Maximum Number of Clients Already Connected". I've even connected them back to the PS3 so they get the PS3 MAC address, and even after repairing them using the Sixaxis Pair Tool - no luck.
Here's the best part - I'm not even running Android JB on a phone - this is a development box (ODROID-X2 to be exact). It's running Android 4.0.4. More specs on the build if it helps, including kernel version below:
Kernel version 3.0.51
[email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jan 3 12:38:41 KST 2013
Build Number
odroidx2-eng 4.0.4 IMM76L eng.ckkim.20130103.120123 test-keys
I'm on my way back to the store to return these controllers and purchase two new ones. I guarantee they will work (and will post my update once I get them).
I hope this helps track the issue down - I'm building a gaming emulation station, and I don't think the person I'm giving this to will want to have to always think about making sure their controllers never drain down to 0%
An update to my previous post:
I decided to give it one more shot, so I did the following:
- Pressed the tiny button on the back of each PS3 controller to reset it
- Connected the first PS3 controller via USB cable to my ODROID-X2, went into the Sixaxis Controller app and pressed Start
- Once initialized, I then clicked "Pair Controller"
- Unplugged cable from controller, then held down the PS button, several seconds (2-3, maybe more) after it started flashing. Controller 1 activated.
- Connected the second PS3 controller via USB cable to my ODROID-X2, clicked "Pair Controller"
- Unplugged cable from controller, then held down the PS button, several seconds (2-3, maybe more) after it started flashing. Controller 1 activated.
- Connected the third PS3 controller via USB cable to my ODROID-X2, clicked "Pair Controller"
- Unplugged cable from controller, then held down the PS button, several seconds (2-3, maybe more) after it started flashing. Controller 1 activated.
I now have 3 controllers, all with mouse emulation that I activate by pressing R3. I'm in the process of configuring all the key mappings now.
Maybe it's how long I pressed the PS button when initializing the controller?
Hope this helps jmvzla
Not sure if it will help, but I did a video showing how to pair through PS3 controller with the SixAxis app using just a USB OTG cable. Not sure but it sounds like you're missing a step.

XBOX 360 wireless controller won't stop flashing

I have the official Microsoft XBOX 360 wireless USB dongle to connect 360 controllers. I plugged it directly into my Fire TV, and much to my surprised, it worked immediately with no configuration. My only issue is that all 4 LEDs on the controller blink constantly (The lights that show if you are Player 1, 2, 3 or 4.) I have brand new batteries in, and have tried multiple controllers. They all do the same thing. I have seen lots of posts with people saying this happens, but couldn't find anyone that figured out how to turn it off. Is this something I just need to get used to, or has someone figured it out?

Yep. Everyone with this setup gets the constant flashing. Learn to ignore it.

USB OTG - external devices not recognised

Hi there,
I have a game that I wanted to play with an external controller, I've got a wired XBox 360 controller to hand, so I went down to my local computer shop and managed to get my hands on a usb otg adapter.
I was using a custom rom based on 4.2.2. When I plugged the controller in it gets power and the central light blinks. However, the system gives no message telling me what it is, and the controls do not work for the game.
I tried the USB host controller app and that told me "usb s3c driver not found", or something similar. It also did briefly tell me that the 360 device was connected.
I thought perhaps if I tried a different rom with a different kernel that might kick things into life. So last night I successfully installed the JazzRom from the development page for the Galaxy Note 8.0.
After that, I plugged in a mouse - which, low and behold, it recognized - I saw the cursor moving over the screen and everything! It did seem a bit dodgy though, in that it would say "mouse disconnected" when I hadn't, then I would plug it back in and it would connect again. My USB keyboard worked too.
Then I tried the XBox 360 controller and nothing happened.
I've tried various apps to diagnose the problem - but if the system doesn't pick up the device when you plug it in, it doesn't seem there's much you can do. What's more annoying, now the mouse and keyboard don't work either.
Is there nothing I can reset or alter (I have root access) to help? I've tried the cache in Settings and wiping the Dalvik cache. I have a app called USB/BT Joystick center now, that might help if it could get a signal from the controller, because somebody said it might just be the mapping of the XBox controller that stopped it working.
The only other thing I can think of is maybe a dicey otg cable.
Surely this should work, in theory, though?

Razer Atrox Arcade Stick not powering properly.

Hey there everyone,
Have my new Razer Atrox stick thanks to their 50% off sale a bit ago. Works great with PC after a little driver fixing.
Unfortunately, when plugged into the Shield TV, it doesn't want to fully power up. Light turns on for a moment, then when I hit the Xbox one button, it flickers a bit then goes dead.
Have tried with a high powered USB hub that is supposed to alleviate power draw issues, still nothing.
Anyone have any experience with this peripheral and the Shield TV?
Possibly something to do with it being made for Xbox one? Wondering if maybe this version of android can't understand that controller language... shot in the dark.
Any advice or assistance would be awesome, thanks!
C
Seems as if this comes down to the xbox one language issue, should have known that.
I just recently tried sideloading the USB/BT Center Gold trial app to get it going.
Worked! All lights stable. Set it to auto load during games
Once loaded, got a crash... multiple games, both gamestream and geforce now,...Something else blocking it's functionality.
I may be doing something wrong?
This would go for all xbox one controllers, I assume.
Anyone out there get this app to work with the STV??
Just wanted to add some more info to this issue.
It seems to be the best solution until Google handles the protocol issue.

Question S22 OTG Gamepad Gamesir x2

I have an S22 with Stock Android and bought Gamesir X2 to play XBOX Cloud and Retroarch games with it.
For some reason I decided to buy the USB-C version over the Bluetooth (I thought I was neat to be able to charge the phone while playing and also less input lag due to BT delays).
Thing is, gamepad arrived, I rushed to plug it in and found out nothing happened. Gamepad blue light stays blinking (its supposed to stay blu when connected) and the phone doesnt even detects anything.
This is supposed to be a simple OTG gamepad, so should be plug-n-play.
I reached to Samsung about 'how do I enable OTG to use my gamepad' and the answer was 'OTG is enabled by default'
I also reached out to Gamesir, they told me to try press G+S buttons on the pad while connected, but nothing happened
There's a Gamesir app that is suppsed to be used to detect it (and also map the gamepad on some touch screen games) but doesnt work for me
I also found some guy on youtube claiming I should enable ADB debug and set USB default to 'File transfer'. Doesnt work either
Anyone having the same issue?
Anyone having a USB-C Gamepad working?
Any ideas on what to try out to get it working?
Thanks in advance
I've recently run into a similar issue however on a S23+. The device I'm trying to use is a Seek CompactPro FF USB-C which uses powered OTG. No need of a cable as it has USB-C built into the device itself.
It didn't work at first, it detected it and tried to open the "Seek Thermal" app which is normal but in the app itself the device was not being detected. Did a ton of searching until finally I found another person having a similar issue where the work around was to plug in the OTG device, then reboot the phone with the device still plugged in.
Give that a try? IMO it shouldn't be like this, and it isn't very well documented anywhere I look...but that worked for me for my device. Did not work any other way. Device works perfectly fine after rebooting phone with it plugged in.

Thanks for your reply 86, tried that but didnt work for me. I saw a couple of videos where the blinking blue light might mean that its not connecting well (its supposed to stay blue) so I guess its something to do with how the cable is connecting. Since Gamesir already told me I have no warranty nor support from them as I bought it on Amazon instead of their site I'm thinking on tearing it appart during the weekend.
If I break it I'll end up with a nice pouch case for my cables (the most expensive pouch ever).
