Odd car audio problem I've seen no duplication of... - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm using the AT&T Galaxy SIII Pebble Blue 16 GB.
I searched high and low for a thread about this issue but I haven't seen one. Hopefully someone will embarrass me and bring one to light!
Maybe its just the make of my car (08 Saab 9-3 but the head unit is pretty standard across a few GM products), but getting car audio (Using Aux in) to work in this car is very flaky and unreliable. If I plug both ends in directly and try to play the "Earphones connected" message never pops up. The moment i remove the cable from the head unit the ear phones connected pops up. Plug it back in to the car, it goes away and still no audio.
The work around is very annoying. I have the unplug it from the car and press play on Spotify, then plug it in hoping that it will work. It does sometimes... but after I get it plugged in if I receive a text or phone call it will immediately cut out the audio from the car and replace it with a periodic crackling sound. My old iPhone, iPod touch, and Galaxy SII do not have this problem. My friends brand new Galaxy SIII is having the exact same issue.
If ANYONE knows of this issue any help you can provide will be much appreciated.

vs
yours=first, mine=second (and my display looks exactly like yours)
But, mine does do one thing that really bothers me... as soon as I plug in the aux cable it automatically starts playing stuff (I think it's whatever the last thing I was playing). I'm not sure if this just happens in my car or in other places too. I just plugged in some headphones at my desk and it didn't do anything so I'm thinking it's the car. I'd ask if you have experienced this too, but it sounds like your problem would supersede mine.
(It also doesn't stop playing when I unplug the cable, which is really annoying, but that one I know is a TouchWiz thing. The problem I explained above I can't tell yet whether it's a TouchWiz "feature" or some sort of weird bug)

You'd be right..
I can "trick" it to work... which involves plugging the jack into the phone pressing play on Spotify then plugging it into the aux in on my car and it will work. Any stop in music playing (Like the end of a playlist) will disconnect it and any text or anything of that nature will too..
Its so annoying...

I have an '07 9-3 and have the same exact issue.Streaming music in my car is one of the main uses of my phone and the fact I cannot is a huge annoyance.
My thought on a way to "fix" this problem was to create a widget (perhaps using something like AnyCut) that switched the phone into earphones mode. The change into earphone mode is obviously normally done by a physical action (plugging something into the jack) but I was hoping there might be a manual way to do it. However my knowledge on the matter is very limited. My phone is rooted and I was searching databases using SQLite Editor for a variable to change to put it in earphones mode but was unable to find one. Does anyone know if this is even a viable way to do it and if so how to implement such an action?
Cheers,
Celtic Browncoat

I also have an 08 saab 9-3 and am having the same problem. It figures that the problem would only exist with a saab

Not sure if everyone has come up with a solution, but in my 2007 9-5, I found that grabbing an inline volume control from Radioshack fixed the issue. I plugged it in on the phone side and everything works as it did with my old Droid X.

Hey! I stumbled across this old post a few days ago, as I was looking for a solution to the exact same issue with my 2010 9-3/Samsung Galaxy S4. The inline volume control cable ($10 from RadioShack) fixed the issue for me as well. Thanks!

Is it possible to use a headset and phone's mic for talking on phone?

Hi,
I used to use a Nokia 5310. With it, I could take a call by pressing any button, listenlng via headset and talking to phone's mic, while I was listening to music. Once I hang up the call, the music resumes. All this was done with 5310 phone and a normal 3.5mm headset (without any mic in its line).
Now with SSGS, when I was listening to music via a headset and taking a call with the headset plugged in, voice on the line wouldn't come through the headset. Instead, I had to remove the earpiece and talk to the phone as if the headset wasn't there.
It seems good prople here are able to play with alsa, and I think audio redirecting might be possible.
Could someone point me to the right direction?

I was just thinking about this the other day. I was in town listening to music and a call came through. It would be nice not having to faff around taking out the earphones to answer a call.

Same here, I would love to have this feature, makes the phone that much more useful and 'smart'

It is amazingly annoying to have to pull out my headphones to answer the phone...
In this case galaxy isnt a "smart"phone its from stoneage, have never hade a phone that behave like this..Is it a huge bug in Android?? or maybe the engineers in samsung need a brain transplant.
I'd like to be able to use the cassette adapter in my car for music and hands free
+1
I too would like to see a fix for this problem.
In the meantime I use my old Nokia hands free adapter with an inline mic and a 3.5mm headphone jack inside the car / when using my own headphones

I'm sharing the same dilemma. dunno if there is a software fix for this. I've read a few threads mentioning that Samsung had the mic rigged differently to enable video output thru the 3.5mm jack.
Same problem here. Looking for a solution.

Haven't got this phone yet but are you saying when the wired headset is plugged into the Galaxy S phone you cannot take a call through the headset?
I currently use a Nokia with a headset same as PhoenixFx pic, I listen to music > call comes in > hit inline remote and take call > finish call by hitting inline remote > goes back to music.....
Don't tell me this cant be done????

This is true, and I cannot begin to tell you how pissed I was to discover my Skullcandy headset neither works as headphones or as a headset. IIRC one of the speaker pins and the mic pin are the other way round on the SGS so its not compatible with normal 3-pole 3.5 jacks.
Instead of getting new headphones, I'm going to run with a Jabra BT stereo thing that lets you plug your own headset in. I love my earbuds, and I'm damned if samsung is going to stop me using them, particularly when they don't even have a non-stock set of headphones on sale themselves.
I doubt that this is the cause of the headphones/phonecall thing tho. I guess they just didn't even think of it when they were coding. I don't see why this is impossible, and especially with stuff like Cyanogen just over the horizon, could see it soon.

You can use one of the Nokia hands free adapters like I do (if you want a cheaper solution then get a 3rd party Nokia compatible one from eBay), however you won't be able to plugin your own mic, but at least the in line mic and your own headphones will work. Built in mic of the Nokia HS-45 is pretty sensitive and can be used even from a distance (especially handy inside a car)
I have no idea why Samsung didn't give the option of using the built in mic of the phone with a headset, or at least provide their bundled headset with a detachable earphone cable like Nokia does.
@Lostalone:
I Just managed to buy a samsung jack adaptor today. Samsung does sell one here in singapore. You can plug any third party headphones with the mic adapter. Works like a charm.

My Captivate worked fine but using the same headset on my Bell Vibrant does not work on calls. Where can I find said adaptor or is there a specific headset for the Bell Vibrant/Galaxy S international that works?
It should not be hard if we can see/edit the source of the phone app and recompile it.
I will be looking for the source and how to recompile.
I am aware that using a nokia adapter solved the problem. I am using one myself. Though, There are still Times when such adapter is not suitable, such as jogging.

Bluetooth headset with Caller ID (Stereo)

I'm an avid mountain biker and I would like to find a good stereo bluetooth headset with caller id which is compatible with the One X. When I'm biking the phone is stored in a zipped pocket and I would like to see who is calling without taking the phone out. Any recommendations?
Your only option I can think of are the Sony Ericsson products, get them quick though as I suspect they are no longer in production, given the changes going on at that company.
Found the perfect one!
Sony, (without Ericsson) are about to release an amazing stereo bt headset with an OLED display which even allows you to read messages and email. Supposed to be released on the 30th. I'm pre-ordering now
Check it out:
http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/st...gId=-1&productId=8198552921666448402#features
I use Jabra Sport with my HOX! If sweat, dirt and dust is your concern go with Jabra Sport no callerid though and your phone has to be close to the earpiece...
US mil spec Rain, sweat and shock protection.

@ozaghloul, Brilliant find thx mate. If those will be working as fine as the old MW600 this is going to be my next buy. although I would like to see some review first:S Perhaps if you get yours soon ?
[EDIT]
The UK Clove has committed short video of the pre-mentioned smart headset pro from Sony showing the full package contents and demonstrating its functionality and It can be found HERE
Mine has been delivered today morning and after the whole day of my playing with it, its been working flawlessly with my HOX and DHD (both phones running mike's roms) so Its a keeper for me and worthy replacement of the good old MW600
It's not the functionality of the phone that determines the called id part? I have the Plantronics Backbeat 903 stereo bluetooth headset (which is awesome, by the way, although I don't have any experience with other stereo bluetooth headsets to compare it with), but I've never tried to get it to read caller id.
If you can't get the caller id functionality you are looking for with the headset, what about adding a "smart watch"? Not ideal, but certainly better than stopping and taking your phone out of your pocket.

try the nokia bh-221 it has a oled display and also has nfc support.....so we can easily pair it with our phone by tapping it on the back..

Try Tasker,
You will be able to easily set up a profile that will read a caller ID and set it so that it's only active when connected to bluetooth or a headset!
I'm confused. There are several.

It's how I found this post, too. (I have a note, and it's too big for pulling out just to see who's calling,. I'm using a 5-year-old Jabra BT810, it vibrates on an incoming call, too, which is nasty if you have it in your ear, but I wanted to see what was new. I'm surprised there's nothing stellarly better, but there's enough. No, I'm not selling it.)
This one looks OK, but it looks pretty dim in the YouTube video I looked at.

This one look like you can use a decent wired pair of earbuds with it, but I don't see a clip or any way to attach it to yourself.

Actually there is something weird about it, with old MW600 once connect to laptop or wall charger its stops everything and start charging only.
The new headset continues to play but it doesn't show the battery charging animation. i will try full discharge tonight and test again.
Its not a biggie for me as it never has been a problem for me with the old MW600 though and the headset with the app from playstore does everything it says it might do

Its called Liveware manager, through that you can set-up the supported devices, and applications (there is few more extras in the play store, but I'm using only gmail, missed calls and calendar)
Sony provides their own app to manage all their "smart" accessories. I think its mostly to assure that all functions remain available to you, regardless phone and rom you might be using. (it turns on and off automagically every time you trigger your Bluetooth)
Hope that help and address your question correctly
The HW1 headset pro can be used while connected to charger

GS3 Car Stereo - Aux Input issue

Hello everyone,
I have noticed an issue with my s3 and thought I'd ask around. I tried connecting my phone with my cars stereo using an aux cable but every time I do that the sounds comes through the phones speakers. Plugging the cable in and out once gets the sound through the car but it again stops if I change the song or if I receive a notification even.
It doesn't seem to be an isolated instance since i saw another person face the exact same problem on another forum. I'm thinking that maybe my 2 contact aux cables might be to blame here, but really don't wanna buy a third one before getting some input. I also guess it can equally be a software or even a hardware issue.
So has anyone else noticed this?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
i plug in to my car's aux jack all the time while using pandora and have had no problems.
what type of 3.5mm audio jack are you using, the really thick ones, or the thin ones? thick ones cause problems sometimes by not getting full contact(as the base is too big), had this issue with a new car stereo and my old g2.
basically, this is the one that's too thick, especially for aftermarket stereos:

To be honest the ones that i have ( both of them actually) appear to be too thick as compared to the OEM headphone's pin. Was the problem that you were facing similar to the one I am now i.e. sound starts playing sometimes and stops when u change the track ?
I have the same problem. Let me guess... you have to plug it in and out to make a call with earphones too?

Hey Zza1989, thanks for the reply. I havent made that many calls using the earphone, but when i tried it now it seemed to work ok. However the S3 seems to have a tough time detecting my cars stereo when plugged into it.
If you're facing the same issue with the aux, can i please know what car you are using it with. I replied on another forum where someone was facing the same issue and it turned out that we were both using the phones with Saab's. What about you ?

I'm actually using an aftermarket stereo by Sony. But I still get the same problem. I doubt it has anything to do with the car as the sane thing happens to me with my skull candy earphones ad well as my car stereo with aux connection. Only with the stock Samsung earphones provided with the phone does it work properly. And even then it's a little sketchy sometimes.

Agreed. That's the only semi-major issue I've had with the phone so far. I hate to think what's going to happen when my earphones start to fail (I them extensively). I'll just have to buy new OEM earphones.

Help: car aux cable

My sgs3 is only 2 days old. I'm on the stock Rom. Not rooted.
When I plug my Mytouch 4g slide into my 3.5 mm audio cable, it assumes I am plugged into headphones and starts playing music through my car. (The headphone symbol shows up on the status bar.)
With my gs3. I plug the phone into my car and it continues playing music through my phone speaker and ignores the fact that I have a 3.5mm cable plugged in.(no symbol in status bar.)
Headphones work fine, however playing music through my car does not. What is the fix for this? New cable?

do you have any kind of case on the sgs3? I noticed that some cases don't let you plug in the aux cables all the way and it doesn't get a good connection. make sure your aux cable is plugged in all the way. if that doesn't work try another cable to see if that's the issue.

I tried a different AUX cable and I still have the problem. I wonder if there's a phone setting I need to change? Anyone please???
p.s. CD's and radio audio is thru both speakers but not phone.

I have a case but the aux cable I use is thin and goes all the way in. I am starting to think that the sgs 3 only likes the triple stripe plugs.(the ones on headphones that include a Mic on the wire). I'm going to look for a 6 foot male/male triple stripe 3.5 mm cable at fry's.

I have no problems with my regular 3.5mm headphone jack in my stereo, but I do agree that it is kind of touchy, especially with my case on. For a work around, I put my music on my SD card, and plug the usb into my phone, mount it as UMS with SGS3 EASY UMS, and Voila! Music on my stereo and control of the music through my car stereo vs the phone.
I got a new cable and having the same problems. Headphones still have no issue but I tested my phone connected to my ihome via audio cable and I'm having a funny issue where between songs if I press next, the speaker sounds like there's nothing plugged in. (Audio feedback) but then it stops when the new song plays.
Also... in my car I was able to play music if I plug the cable into my car and press play simultaneously. The 'headphones connected' notification comes up for about 1.5 seconds. If I press play while that notification is there, I can play one song. But then after one song finishes, the same problem happens.
Edit: I cannot produce the headphones connected notification by plugging the cable into my phone, only if the cable is already in my phone and I plug it into my car
I'm beginning to think that my headphone jack is not grounded properly so imma exchange the phone for another one if I test this issue with my friends gs3 and do not have the same problem

Will we just ignore the Headphone Jack Issue?

Guys,
i really do like my G3 and i think some specs/functions are superior to other phones (camera, display), but i was wondering why people are happy and satisfied with the g3 knowing that most devices have the Headphone/Aux Jack Output issue. (i tested 3, all had the issue).
It seems like the G3 can't handle all cables with a 2-line 3,5mm jack. However, 3-line cables work fine (headsets, or a 3-line adapter such as this:

So, since this has to be a impendance issue, it is pretty much a hardware thinf and can't be fixed with a software update.
To me, this is a deal-breaker. I don't want to carry the adapter all the time and i don't think i should just accept the fact that a 600dollar flagship phone has such a hardware bug!
Your thoughts?

Happy? Well, in fact im happy with LG G3 but not very much... In fact is a beautiful phone, using v10N and got no issues... I mean, if i dont count with jack issue and instable network reception... Question LG Portugal and they say that never heard that issues and to go to warranty. I would do that but realize that many others users complain about that even after warranty so i'm not the only one. And in my carrier still have v10A and have to flash v10A again, go to warranty and then root and flash N version again (and install all too) and, just other users, keep the jack and network problems... Overall im happy but could be better.
I have never had a problem with the jack, ive used 4-5 pairs of headphones some cheap 3.5 mm aux cables and yesterday i got some Audio Tecnica ATH-M50s, all ove them have worked without any problems at all, not sure if its hardware or software.
This makes me want to cry.........or throw this piece of crap out my window driving 70mph
LG says this is a know bug and to use an audio cable with over 1ohm of resistance...
OK LG, so what your saying is that every time I want to listen to my phone in my, or my friends car, im supposed to say, hey buddy, can I listen to my phone? All i need to do is just pull your dash apart, pull your stereo out and plug this BULL**** aux cable in...
NO.
Every few weeks i post a hatefull message on lg facebook wall, im loading lg live chat right now. I cannot believe this is still an issue. WHen i bought this phone i found out the issue but was not to alarmed as the phone had just been released and i figured in a few weeks this would be fixed. Now a half year later and we are still putting up with this ****.
I also regret buying this thing after knowing that it has this hardware bug. But I can't do anything about that. For now, I'm using SoundAbout app and set it to "Headphone" since I almost never listen music using the phone's speaker.
Live chat was just another big waste of time. Explained the issue, said they have 1 year warranty, said they can take the phone, diagnose and repair, I said i wasnt going to send my phone in for 2 weeks for them to not resolve the issue. He said it may take some time to figure out this bug, bla bla bla. What a joke.
My girlfriend doesn't have this problem on her phone and it's only sporadic with mine. Thought maybe it had to due with the cracks that form naturally.

I have a similar issue. I use BOSE QC20 with my LG G3. Whenever i plug is in , it always shows the auxiliary profile and people cannot hear me . Anyone else having this issue?
Thank you

Same here. Working fine on all my headphones, 3 different 3.5mm jacks in 2 cars and work truck.
The only issue I do have is when making a call for the first time after connection, the other party can not hear me.
Simple fix to this was to connect phone to 3.5mm jack, make the call and whilst waiting for answer, press loudspeaker button on then off. Then calls are crystal clear both ends until phone is disconnected from jack.
This leads me to believe that my issue is at least software related.
Out of my last 4 phones - gs3, HTC one and Xperia z, I have to say the g3 sounds the best of all, stock for stock.

I have the same problem with my shure inears and with my sony headphones.
I think the best solution would be if you could manually choose what device you plugged in.
It would work similar to the choose an app to open something dialog and would open everytime you plug something in, then you could choose between headphones, headset and aux.
I know this is an old post but what issue is everyone talking about? I plug my phone into 2 different vehicles and 3 different speaker systems all through the 3.5mm jack in my home daily. I have yet to have any issue when doing this and have been with the G3 since Oct 2014
It was a software issue and has since been fixed. You could plug a cord into your phone and it would keep playing through the phones speaker. it was the most aggrivating thing ever.
If you don't mind...could you direct me to a thread or post that mentions this software fix? My D851 T-Mobile variant still has this issue.
