Stock Launcher Question - Nexus 7 Themes and Apps

So this is my first Android device (coming from iOS) and after looking through different launchers (Go, Apex, and Nova) I think I still like the stock 4.1.1 one the best.
But I want so features from them in the stock launcher, is that possible? Specifically I would like the pages to loop ie,. When I get to the fifth page I want it to go back around to the first page, also I want cool page flipping animations , and lastly I'd like the launcher to work in landscape. Apparently this was the default behavior in 4.0 but they removed it 4.1... weird.
Anyways sorry I'm such a noob just looking for a few answers.

Unfortunately you can not make the stock launch go into landscape without rooting your device and making some changes. I do like the loop feature as well. Nova was the closest to original but I did not like the landscape view it provided, chopped some widgets and just did not "look right" for me. I installed Nemus launcher and so far this has been my favorite. Everything just seems to look crisper and the landscape view is perfect. The one thing I did not like about is that it did not give you a separate tab for widgets in the launcher, but that is ok because you can just long press on a spot on the page and pull up Widgets. Hope that helps some.

Use nova laucher it will let u do landscape mode infinite scroll and all that. ITs just as fast as stock launcher

Go launcher

Been searching for a good launcher for my Archos 70. I tried both ADW and Launcher Pro plus. They both worked good for me. But then i found the Go Launcher it works very well for me,smooth and fast. And it has a built in task manager. It has no widgets
yes the go launcher is the bet right now.
I use it on my 70 and my desire.
I also talked to the developers and metioned so bugs and requested some features and by what the told me some cool things will come up in version 2
Just loaded this up. Being a LauncherPro user I was hoping for a lot and I got it. Best launcher I've played with thus far. Wish it had 7x7 grid support though. Extremely fast.
Try requesting it .maybe they will do that
Had a quick look at the feature list, a few screenshots and a video... What makes it better that LauncherPro? In some ways it looks like a iOS-ripoff and I really hate that (ie Samsung's TouchWiz UI...) I see no need for a task manager/killer.
Looking forward to the first launcher that's 100% made for tablets... Haven't found anything like that yet. Maybe when more people buy tablets, and when Honeycomb shows up in more detail.
Tried it on the archos 101 (firmware 2.0.71) but found it laggier than launcher pro and zeam.
Never tried to launcher before. Coming from launcher pro and now using zeam launcher. It lean, mean and extremely fast. Try it...
im using this launcher for 4 days, and i must say i love it, just uninstall launcher pro. This is so fast love the task manager in main menu. You have my support thanks a lot.
I've been trying to get this on my archos 101 and I can't get it from the market. It doesnt come up when I search for it. I can't get any launcher to come up for that matter.
You'll have to do the market fix.
Try the search for finding it then you will find a lot more Apps.
how do we go about doing the market fix??
i'm having the same problem with not seeing apps in the market
thanks
ADW EX
Anybody tried ADW EX yet?
It's basically a fancier version of the stock ADW, very smooth on my phone (Archos yet to arrive)
Grid up to 10x10 too...
Interested in seeing how this works on the Archos family.
I switched to adw ex. ATM go launcher has some annoying bugs, but I'll watch out for further updates.
I especially like the new mainscreen transition animations on adw ex., and without wallpaper scrolling the animations look smith and nice.
I used LauncherPro, but lack of grid support is annoying when you want to place widgets.. just shifted to Zeam launcher. it supports 7x7 grid and is quite smooth too..
but both have an issue when waking up or coming back to home screen from an app..the screen stays a bit towards the left due to archos buttons and returns to normal only after you swipe at it a little..
That is not a problem of the launcher but of the archos itself, because even the stock launcher has this issue

There's a thread over on ArchosFans that says if you make the first home screen or the next-to-last home screen (when using more than 3 screens) will fix that problem. Haven't tried it yet as I just read it and my tab is at home, but several say that it works in LP & Zeam.
I have been using Zeam launcher for the last 2 weeks, its very fast and feature packed, definately more stable on my 101 than LauncherPro (which runs well on my HTC Desire).
Give it a go.
cant post a link yet...sorry
Zea
Tried Go, ADW, LP & Zeam...love Zeam...
I tried several launchers on my Archos 101. Go launcher ex can only provide a 5x5 grid what makes it kind of useless for a ten inch screen. So i'm back at zeam as well. I'm still waiting at a launcher specifically for tablets.
Zeam is the daddy

Its compatible with roms and themes I flash? Also I notice when I press my home screen soft key it gives me a choice in which launcher to use. Does my phone run them both at the same time causing the phone to lag and use up alot more ram?

Yeah... Everytime you install a launcher, you get to pick which one you want to use. go launcher is a real good launcher. i have adw ex , launcher pro, vtl launcher, and sp shell... But this one is a real good launcher for free.

I don't mind paying to Have the best launcher if there is a general idea of which really is the best. But once I click on the launcher I want to use and it switches to that launcher does the other launcher completely close down and get released from ram completely or would it save open web pages and such in TW if I hit the home button and switched to GO launcher EX?
EDIT- also if I click "remember my decision" when choosing a launcher is there a way to go back later to TW?

YA You can go back to the TW launcher once you set any launcher as default. All you need to do is go to Manage Applications and go to the Launcher you currently have as a default and hit Clear Defaults. when you hit the home button it ask you again what launcher you want to use.
Sweet, thanks for the reply and the info man. I do have another question though. I saw that there's lots of themes for GO laumcher EX but I went to download one called "FutureWorld" foe GO launcher and it said it wasn't compatible with this device? How cam that be guys?
I'm bumpin this and changed the tittle to get more feed back into which LAUNCHER IS BEST

This question will just answered based on everyone's experience...I think you just need to take the time to mess with each one, then make your choice. Personally, I recently switched to GO launcher myself since it was included in the ROM I'm using and from my experience so far it works fine.

That's the first one I tried ( and only ) and do like it. What rom did it come with that you flashed? Also the reason I ask this is because I want feedback on selling points like features you found and love or things that irritate the sin into you
I find Go Launcher to be the best available. TW is the smoothest, but Go has the best of all worlds.
It really is based on preference.... Go launcher, Launcher pro, and ADW are top launchers.
I purchased launcher pro, but the Dev has not updated in quite a long time.

What are the key differences that would stand out in each of those that might catch some ones preferance radar?
I personally find my self switching back and forth between all of them on whatever phone I'm using at the moment. ADW, TWIZ, launcher PRO, Go, and AOSP and even some of the mods for it. Launcher Pro was my favorite until the dev stopped updating it. Now, I'm using ADW at the moment but I may be going back to TWIZ shortly. Thats the beautiful part about Android! So many Choices!!!!
Go launcher ftw!

When launcher pro was released, it was very fluid and had extra dock shortcuts, resizing widgets, and its own LP widgets. First of its kind.
ADW was also fluid and smooth and was the first launcher to have animation swipes from screen to screen... also intergrated themes.
Go launcher does and has both of the above and its free. Go launcher is free because it sells themes. In my opinion, Go launcher is a top launcher at the moment. They constantly have updates with new themes and extra go launcher services like go sms, go locker, go widgets. It definitively is a win in my book.
go luancher is ez to customize too. i switch between twlauncher and go luancher depend on the theme. sometime go luancher just wont go with theme.

[Q] Any of the GOOD launchers work in ICS?

I need a launcher that is very customizable like ADW or GoLauncher. I tried both of them and for some reason they both had the same problem; when the screen rotates to landscape it jumps to the far right screen instead of staying on the screen I'm on.
Does anyone have any good launchers that are working properly on ICS? I also tried Nova launcher but its not customizable enough. I'm going to try launcher pro now and will report back if it works.
OK so I tried LauncherPro and same problem. This led me to investigate and I beleive I narrowed it down to the calendar widget. No matter what screen I'm on, when I rotate screen it automatically jumps to the screen with the calendar widget. Annoying...
you gotta give devs some time to adjust to the screen/ics etc. I would play around with the current flashable ones and wait for a major update that brings lots of customization options
ps have you tried adw ex?
I use adw ex.works flawlessly.I prefer stock though,its awesome!

Go works fine.
Go has always been my first choice. However, now with the Gnex and having folders pop down from the Top of the screen has made accessing apps really difficult with one hand. Because of that one issue, I went to Adw Launcher. That works great too.
Been using ADW Ex since day 1. Working flawlessly
After using ADW it's impossible to go back to anything else....
Ultimately I'd like the stock ICS with rotation and that stupid Google search removed but until the mods on here have their bugs ironed out I’m using GO.
My only bad point on GO is scrollable widgets you have to pause your finger on them a sec then scroll. (Is there a setting in there to fix this?) I like the stock responsiveness where you can swing between screens and flick apps around instantly.

I started using it on day 2 . With only one home screen, one clock, one weather widget, a 5 icons dock and three folders, I'm done.
I'm using Nova launcher, it's stock with a very nice twist.
GO completely locked me up and caused reboots to the point that i had to reimage back to stock.

Another Vote for Nova
I really like the ICS experience, and Nova allows me to keep that with options (including backup via Titanium & homescreen rotation)

Yup, been using Nova since last night. Takes something good and makes it great.
I used LPP on my OG, DX, DX2, RAZR cuz no matter what I did the stock Moto launcher was always a bit laggy. I kept the modded Rosie on my TB cuz it looked lol. And Nowthe GNex ICS launcher was almost perfect to me until Nova came along

Caveat: This is by no means meant as a disrespect to the amazing devs behind ADW, LP and Go EX.
when I got my hands on the GN, i was hooked on to the Android 4.0 look and feel. Previously alternative launchers were needed because (a) Android used to be ugly and (b) stock widgets sucked.
All that has changed now. I cannot bring myself to use anything but the stock launcher. However, I WILL like it if (a) I can utilize the space occupied by the stupid Google widget - its not a widget at all but a shortcut, a complete waste of space and (b) homescreens would be increased from 5. All those wonderful widgets need more space.
I don't want to root, although I have a feeling CM9 will have what I am asking for. In the meantime, I am testing out Nova.

Favorite Launcher?

Nothing came up in the seach so thought I'd get some input on launchers. It would be nice to hear why you prefer certain launchers over others.
Feel free to add my rom and kernel are great, I dont bother with any extra launcher.
Ive been using Go Launcher for a while now, I really like it.
A quick thing I noticed was that they put a settings button back on the bottom with back and home where it belongs. Not sure why google took this out, theres room for it.
The abundance of customization is nice.
Lots of homescreen transitions (I love the cylinder one)
Lots of dock control, really like how clicking and swiping a dock icon can launch separate apps.
App drawer settings are good, I really dislike the iphone horizontal page turn set up of the standard app drawer so having a vertical scroll is a great option. Changing the grid size, easily hiding apps, having the all/recent/running tabs.
Gesture settings, already so many ways and apps to get to things quicker, having this built in is a bonus. I got used to it in dolphin browser so it was a welcomed addon. Also simple things like swiping down anywhere on the screen to pull down the notifications bar is something Im not sure I could go without now.
Nice theme selection, Although I dont bother with any.
Lots of other great GO apps and go widgets.
I used to really like the whole menu system they have when you long press on a homescreen to pull up widgets, wallpapers, themes etc until ICS added the widget previews right in the app drawer. Thats missing in Go Launcher and is one of the few things I wish it had.
I have liked Apex a lot. Seemed like I could setup a single 6x6 screen with smoothness better then I could with Nova. In both cases I used the betas with Jelly Bean patches in them.
Also, there is a whole thread here about launchers:

My favorite is whatever comes stock on my current ROM. To me, the advantages of different launchers aren't that great to have to mess with one more thing.

How fast is this phone using launchers?

The reason I'm asking is that I've tried this phone in the store as well as watched the video reviews and yes, the UI is really, really fast and smooth.
I'm curious if anyone has installed a 3rd party Launcher, like Nova or something without being rooted and noticed how the speed is after they did that?
Just try any, non of them require root l. I think your phone will handle them perfectly
Sent from my HTC One X
It depends on the settings you use, but I am using nova and it is very fast and very smooth. The only reason I am using it instead of stock is so I can double press the home key and have the notification bar drop down. Saves me having to try to reach for it all the time
I use Go Launcher Ex with most of the bells and whistles enabled, and it's buttery smooth on stock 4.0.4, stock 4.1.2, and CM 10.1 (4.2.1).
Switched to Go to get more than 4 columns of icons, nicer icons, nicer themes, nicer animations.
I use holo launcher and its just as smooth as the stock ics launcher.

I'm using Nova on the AOSP Rom and it is extremely fast.
Nova Launcher on stock 4.1.2 ROM, smooth, fast, and responsive.
i sry to maybe hijack ur thread omnius1, but i also got some questions about launchers.
i got my E975 some days ago and i am thinking about trying another launcher than LG's own, but how to u set it them up and how to disable the stock one and which have the best options for modding the hell out of the homescreen?

Most launchers will allow you a degree pf modding the homescreen but it depends what you wish to do..
If youre looking to change stuff like fonts then the launcher wont allow this at least I havent seen it, however you can change animations, the dock, folders, icons and general theme..
I currently use a combo of apex launcher (which works with some of the existing stock widgets, unlike adw launcher for instance) and rom toolbox pro which allows for a whole bunch of customization such as boot screens, font, et
Oh and I should also mention that the speed amd performance overall using apex launcher is every bit as fast as stock if not a bit faster.
I am rooted too fyi.
