Blueish/Purplish Tint to screen - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Im really annoyed that I have to write this...I had to get a replacement Galaxy Nexus and when I realized that my original one had a screen burn in problem...the replacement had a really bad blueish/purplish tint to it and so I sent in for a new one...and I got a new replacement that has the exact same issue as the last one.
Im seriously at a loss of what to do, because this is really annoying.
Should I get another replacement? Or is this screen issure normal?(I didnt have this problem on my original)
My friend told me to go down to the store and demand a brand new phone straight out of the box...he said it work for him once.

get the phone replaced again if its blueish purple under 30 percent or so, or try franco's kernel and app and adjust the gamma + contrast down, fixed it for me

I was sent a replacement refurb that had the tint problems, they then sent me a new boxed one which has been fine...

There's a huge conversation about this literally two threads up. Keep exchanging until you get a good one. Be ready for many arguments over the phone, since Verizon and Google refuse to acknowledge that this is a problem.

How were you finally able to get them to give you a brand new one...the guy at the VZW store was hassling me and he said there is nothing he can do about it....then I called Verizon customer support and they told me to call samsung...Samsung told me that I have to send my phone to them for repair...but then I will be without a phone for a week
NONE OF THEM ARE LETTING ME GET A NEW PHONE!
This crap is so annoying.

I guess Im going to try to get one last replacement -_____- since they wont budge on giving me a new phone....the last option I have after that is sending it to Samsung for repair.

[Q] returning evo

Hey all, I was wondering if you think Sprint would give me a hard time for wanting a replacement evo due to mine having screen separation issues? My phone was not dropped or anything of that nature. No physical damage at all.

I doubt that they would give you much trouble about wanting a replacement under the manufacturer's warranty. You can look forward to receiving a refurb from the sprint warehouse at this point however.

they sent me a refurb initially only a week after release and the g-sensor didnt work. subsequently after a ***** session with assurion i got a complete brand new unopened package. ;-)
I wouldn't mind a refurbished phone as long as there's no separation. Also, would it be an 003 hardware phone? Mine is currently 002 seeing as how I got the phone on release date. And they wouldn't happen to send an already 2.2 phone cuz I want root..>_>

The refurb I got from my sprint store this morning is a hardware version 003 running eclair (2.1). Keep in mind that it will most likely take a few days for them to get a replacement in from the warehouse for you.

I thought assurion only handled insurance claims?
I didn't bother to make a scene about getting a refurb since it was essentially my fault that the phone was bricked to begin with. I was happy to get a working phone without any out of pocket expense. I would have been happier if it was a brand new one obviously. My only complaint about the refurb is that the kickstand has a few scratches on it.

2.1 eclair, well sounds like you can at least get rooted then, lol, get to it, seriously right now.

I'm holding off for now hoping that someone will buy it off me so I can get an epic. I got to play with one this morning and I think I'm in love.
Should I go to the sprint store orhave them mail me a new one? I just want to be able to get root back.

I went to a Sprint repair center in the Dallas/FT Worth area this afternoon. I've got two bright spots on the screen itself and some separation at the base of the phone.
They didn't have any phones in stock to replace it, so they gave me the option to have the screen replaced or to replace it when they get one in stock. To prevent losing root, I opted for the screen replacement option.
While discussing the repair, the rep said that the screen replacement part includes the plastic screen cover, the LCD panel and the outside bezel. Fixes both problems.
Oddly, they would do the full replacement if the only issue I had was the separation problem. Apparently they can fix the light leakage problem, but only at another facility. To keep clients happy, they replace the entire phone.
The screen replacement is a 5 minute job, or so I was told.
Long story short, you shouldn't have any problems getting it replaced. The Sprint people are aware of the issue. However, you will get a refurb or new unit and may get a Froyo 2.2 OS build that can't be rooted (yet).
Yeah, I don't think they'd cause a huge problem. Well, I'll give sprint a call tonight and see what they tell me.

[Q] Past 30-days, but should I ask for a replacement?

So I notice the screen lifting up on the bottom left corner of my phone, and I can feel it moving around when I push on the corners. It's starting to concern me, and well... it shouldn't be happening; I don't appreciate paying for something that seems like it's going to fall apart.
Apparently this is a common problem... which is weird since people give Samsung so much crap.
Anyhoo... I'm past my 30 days (they ran out at the beginning of the month, new Sprint customer as of early Feb '11) what would happen if I took this back to Sprint's store? Would they just give me a new one, or make me go through HTC?
Hardware version 0003.
They should give you a refurb, as you still have warranty for 1 year for hardware defect just like that. Take it to the store-unrooted and all rooting files removed, and you should be fine.

Basically the only thing I'm concerned about is having to send my phone into HTC and having to wait to get one sent to me. You think they'll just switch it out in the store?

Yea, they should just switch it out in the store. or worst case if they don't have one in stock, they'd order a refurb and you'd have it in a day or two, but you won't need to send it to HTC.
Maybe I'll just deal with it.
The problem I have is... I wouldn't accept a refurbished phone. It's just a pet peeve... I paid for a new phone, I want a new phone. I don't like the idea of buying a new one that's defective somehow and getting given a refurbished phone as a replacement. It might not bother some, but I'm just anal like that.
Then again... I haven't talked to Sprint about it, so maybe they would give me a new one.
EDIT: I'll un-root and flash back to stock tomorrow then take it to Sprint on Monday and see what happens.
duplicate post, sorry

I've always had better luck with calling into sprint over the phone then dealing with the sprint store people
I got a HTC hero that was a referb, worried that the phone was trash I kept waiting for it to go bad. It never did, in fact I sold it on eBay some time later. Refurbs are hit and miss, you will know within a few days if its a keeper. If not raise hell and get another one!

Need Help decided whether or not I should get another replacement

Ok, so let me start off by saying that my original Nexus had a burn in problem.
So I called Verizon and ordered a replacement, which I got yesterday, however, the replacement has what seems to be a screen calibration error(def. not hardware). I know I can fix it by rooting it, but I dont feel like going through all that work, nor I dont think its my responsibility to fix it.
Anyway, the issue on my new screen is that it has a blue tint and it is too over saturated in some areas and washed out in others.
So should I send the replacement back for another one?
If its bothering you send it back until you get a good phone. You are keeping it for 2 years. Or you could get a newer phone.

Had to get my sprint Gnex replaced.

Hey guys, I posted a thread last week of a problem I had with my stock unrooted gnex. The problem was that everytime I went to the settings, the settings app would crash and wouldn't let me press "more" in order to access mobile network modes etc.
I rooted it and flashed a couple of roms and the issue kept returning. I un-rooted it this morning and reflashed via odin the latest stock FD02 tar thinking the issue would be gone since everything was going to be wiped. The issue came back again so I went to the sprint store (thank god for TEP) and the techs were acting like it wasnt a big deal. They reset the phone 4 times (the tech did it in fornt of me) and the issue was still there.
So 1 and a half hour later, the manager comes out and tells me she ordered me a new phone (probably a refurb but who cares at this point ) and it would arrive on thursday.
the tech started joking around with me at the end saying that if I got a bad gnex from the factory, that he would give me a NIB GSIII. I hope thats the case haha But I still love my Gnex and its peppy updates and hate touch wiz to death.
Interesting thanks for sharing bud

I can say from experience, since I had an evo 4g before the nexus and my wife has an iphone 4s. We have gone through TEP with both devices.
Lets start with the Evo.
I was getting a lot of dropped calls, the speakers were worn out sounding poorly, it started turning on and off by itself. Went to sprint, the techs diagnosed that there was no water damage or accident damage so they didn't ask for the deductible and ordered me a phone. Replacement arrived in a generic white sprint box, the tech used the same battery I had and gave me a working phone (no scratches, dings or anything looked brand new)
My wifes iphone 4s
The bluetooth wasn't holding a connection to her cars bluetooth system or any bluetooth device at all. The techs diagnosed it and gave her the same treatment. The phone came in a generic box looking new and worked fine.
The story behind whether you ACTUALLY get a refurb or a truly new phone is this.
When the rep places the phone order the system tells him if there are any refurbished units at their warehouse. When there are none the warehouse itself sends a totally new not refurbished phone in the same generic box.
How do you know if you got a new phone or a refurb? Theres no way in my experience (I've had to order around 4 phones in the past 5 years with TEP and they have always worked great and looked new)
If you file a claim with asurion (theft, accidental damage or water damage) they send you a brand new phone after paying the $100 deductible.(happened with 1 phone that I dropped and cracked the screen)
interesting. what i was mostly wondering about was the screen on the gnex. i remember when i had the nexus 4g, people that went through tep said that the screen was replaced with a different one. it wasnt oled, or whatever the original screen was.
I had the issue when I flashed cm9 and paranoid android Roms. But the issue was only the roms

Interesting, It could be a temporary outage of the parts.
I know for certain that for the iphones, the refurbish process is done by apple
So I would think that samsung is responsible for supplying sprints refurb units. Since the screen is made by Samsung themselves they should focus on putting the right screens.
and thursday can't come fast enough My gnex is now getting delayed texts. A lot of people text me, like once an hour the phone is ringing all of the messages that were sent to me at once during that period of time.

Device Exchange with Verizon

Just had a quick question, when I started service with Verizon Wireless last Friday I originally got the LG G2 and my fiance got the HTC One after about a day I returned the G2 and got the One for myself and had to pay the stupid $35 restock fee my question I have is my One is overheating and discharging at a alarming rate, my question is if I bring it back in which the device is within the return period will they try and charge me another $35 restocking fee and will they replace it with a refurbished device or a new one?

If you are replacing a new phone, I would demand a new replacement,.

They shouldn't charge you a restocking fee. I had to swap out my rezound for a pixel issue and they didn't charge me. I also remember they gave me a brand new phone.

You will get a refurb. They will never exchange same device with a new one. It's BS. They say it will be new but it's not. However I got a refurb unit and it works just fine. Mine just stopped working all together. The replacement unit didn't have the camera issue though so I lucked out and got a better device.
Thanks guys I just got back they replaced it with a new one because I was still within the 15 day return period. Also what was FREAKING AWESOME! was that the store manager is a diehard XDA fan and he himself is rocking CM 11 on his HTC One I was like damn I updated my fiance phone to 4.3 not aware of that I screwed up her chance at rooting and he told her to give him her phone and he swapped out right then and there so now we both are back on 4.2.2

Hello XDA Professionals,
Just wanted to add my small success story due in large part to reading about Darkmx2000's experience.
I am a verizon customer in Providence RI and prior to the HTC One I have only owned a Droid 3 and Droid 4, so I assumed rooting and flashing roms would be no issue. (Knowing little about HTC in general).
Fast forward to this week, upon realizing I was without any recourse, decided to look into exchanging the phone. After reading mixed reviews on interactions with Vzw reps, I decided to try an exchange via the pink/purple hue complaint. Before leaving work, I took a pic underneath my desk to illustrate the pinkish low light problem.
It was a good thing I did. The somewhat friendly rep took my phone at the counter, walked into the middle of the store, began taking pictures, and then proclaimed "I dont see it theres nothing wrong with this phone". To retort, I showed her my only piece of evidence. After gently explaining it was only in low light situations, and that it couldnt be done in the current setting. After seeing the pic, and listenining to me yammer on like I am some sort of quasi-professional cell phone photographer, she relented and agreed to replace my phone with a new one.
When she went to push the OTA i kindly requested she didnt so I could "evaluate the hue difference pre update"
I currently have my HTC One unlocked and s-off
Good thing I tried in the end.
