That looks amazing! I want one!
Galaxy Nexus CM9

The big question is, will it allow you to use the sdcard and MHL at the same time?

Yeah, that's what i want to know. Can usb host and mhl be used simultaneously?

Most likely not. I have personally tested all combinations of MHL adapter, OTG cable, USB hubs (powered and non), splitters and adapters.
As of right now all signs point to the Micro USB port being a one job at a time thing.
I would love to be suprised, but I'm not buying this to test it. -Sorry

I don't think so. See under technical details:
Smart Switch Between MHL and Host Mode
But it would be great if it could work. Anyone willing to test?
greetings
Matthias

I will be getting this product so just keep an eye out for my review on this forum.

Anyone got a chance to test this with the nexus 7 yet ?

Doesn't look like this San be used with regular non mhl TVs cause there is nowhere to plug in power to this thing

I recently just ordered this MHL works flawlessly. As for USB host I am still waiting for my flash drives to come in.

Awesome! Please let us know if usb host and mhl be used simultaneously. a video review would be great!

I bought one. I ended up with a defective unit (detailed below), but the defect only seems to be mechanical with the button and not with the electronics. The seller is sending me another so I will let you know how that goes.
Anyway, my initial impression is "meh". Here is the "executive summary":
1. USB host cannot be used at the same time as MHL.
2. In fact, USB host cannot be used at all when the power is plugged in.
My experience with the unit:
1. There is a button on the front that lights up based on what "mode" the unit is in. Blue for USB host and green for MHL. There is a red mode, too, but I only saw it once and haven't been able to get back to it yet.
2. Like I said, the plastic part of the button broke the first time I pushed it. Since the seller said he would send me another, I tore the unit apart and discovered that there wasn't enough glue keeping the button in place.
3. I can't really tell exactly what the button is supposed to do. When I first plug it in to my phone without the power plugged in, I have to press the button to get my phone to recognize it. Once the unit is recognized then it goes into USB host mode and the button starts glowing blue. Nothing seems to happen if I press the button again.
4. As soon as I plug in the power (or I plugged in the unit with the power already plugged in) then the unit automatically goes to MHL mode and the button glows green. If I had an sd card plugged in and mounted when I plugged in the power, then the card is forcibly unmounted when the unit goes into MHL mode.
5. I assume #4 goes for any other USB-connected peripherials as I didn't try a micro sd or a memory stick.
I will be posting this to Amazon once I get time....

yes there is
this is the micro usb port
this micro usb port is for bringing power to the guest devices
I have a similar one without MHL and this is what it does
one regret on the one I have is that it doesn't act has a HUB, so you can't plug a sd and a micro sd at the same time and transfer data between them
is it the same with this device ?

I was thinking buying this unit. (Right now it's 37 USD)
But, does this product works with other phones? Like Nexus 4, Galaxy SII and SIII or Galaxy Note I or II?
I want to keep it when I sell my Galaxy Nexus...!
Or is it better to buy two cables, one MHL and other USB OTG? (Both will make around 16 USD)

I want to try this feature but cannot find an adapter that works. I bought one off eBay but that was no good, the supplier stated it was for the Galaxy Note but didn't work on Gingerbread 2.3+ which was odd as obviously the Note ships with Gingerbread 2.3
I contacted Samsung who said I needed the official Samsung OTG cable but they don't sell to Joe Public .. trawling endless sites to find a supplier came up zero.
So if anyone know of a supplier (UK preferred) of one of these compatible adapter / cables please let me know
Good to see someone started this topic, very useful..
I have the Galaxy note and managed to connect my Keysonic keyboard with builtin mouse with no problems. I have the otg adapter and when I plugged in the wireless adapter the note picked it up as a keyboard and mouse, worked great.

I've just tried my N8s adaptor but no luck I'm afraid. It's connector to the phone is thicker and simply won't fit into the Note.
Nokia (at least the official cable) uses the "correct" Micro USB A for Hostmode.
You have to get Micro USB B for the Note.
(B cable fit in A but not otherwise)

I have the original adapter and it's working great:

i bought several OTG cables from a seller on ebay and all worked

Are you referring to those external hard drives that take power from the USB port?
What about those external hard drives that take on a separate power supply, those that are attached to a power socket? Anyone tried plugging in one of those to a Note?
ok I just buy one and it did work fine with sandisk 64gb.
so it's confirmed that it can read portable drives.
looking forward to owning one.

MHL Adapter for Nitro HD

Now for all you Nitro HD users who didn't know that it is possible to stream video through the Micro USB port, well yes you can That port is actually a MHL port (Mobile High-def Link), which combines both Micro USB and HDMI features together, and all you need is a MHL adapter to connect your phone to your HDTV and stream movies while having your phone charged.
Now my question goes to those who know about these things. Any idea which MHL adapter is compatible with this phone, or can we use any adapter from any maker? And also, has anybody tried using the MHL capability on this phone?
Well, one would think it wouldn't be proprietary based on the fact that all MHL enabled phones use this as a standard now. I have used a MHL cable from an HTC Raider on a Galaxy S II and it worked just fine.
Does anyone else hear a slight grinding/grainy noise when you plug in the Micro USB? It always makes me feel like I'm breaking it.
any mhl adapter should work.

I think if the tv supports mhl mode then you don't need to plug in power.
If tv just has hdmi port then you need to plug in power.
The mhl adapter has microusb port for power input.

So my bro got me an Accell MHL adapter for Christmas and I'm finding it doesn't work with my phone. It doesn't even provide a charge. I'm thinking its physical dimensions are such that the connector into the phone doesn't go in far enough (kinda LG's fault for making the port recessed, kinda their fault for making the connector so damn fat). So, if you guys find one that works for cheap, do you think you could hit us with a link?
TL/DR, Accell's doesn't work, please post ones that do

it needs power for mhl to works. did you try to reboot the phone after you plug in mhl and power input for mhl? i tried on samsung infuse mhl adapter and it works!
Yeah, I provided power and performed every possible sequence of hooking it all up that I could think of and also rebooted several times. I really think it's the form factor of the Accell connector combined with our slightly recessed port that causes it to not go in far enough. I just need someone to give me a suggestion of a brand to buy that they know firsthand works well with our P930.

4. micro USB power in.

Guys, I have a question a little bit off topic here.
It is possible to use a keyboard with Gnex using an USB OTG adapter?
And if it is possible to connect the Gnex in the display using the HDMI adapter, while the keyboard is plugged through the OTG adapter. trying to make it easy: gnex plugged in HDMI adapter, HDMI to the display, in the connector that we usually plug the charger I will plug the OTG cable with the keyboard in it.
If this works the battery will run out fast as hell, but I don't know if is possible to do it.

Yes it is possible to use any usb device via otg.
No you can not have HDMI adapter and OTG at the same time.
Bluetooth is your best bet. I got a logitech bluetooth keyboard and mouse made for tablets and have a nice case for the keyboard that turns into a stand for your tablet and phone. Also if you have bluetooth on your pc like i do, i use it for that too
Here is the keyboard I got: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Tabl...501&sr=8-1&keywords=logitech+android+keyboard
Mouse: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Tabl...501&sr=8-2&keywords=logitech+android+keyboard
Why did you post this without a link to where you got it? I don't see this card reader for sale anywhere when I searched for it.
These are my thoughts on OP.
Thanks man. I'm avoiding bluetooth stuff. Too many things to charge in the end of the day. So far I was able to connect a mouse and a keyboard to the gnex using the OTG cable and an USB hub. I'll lock for a workaround to this, maybe a USB display or something like that.

Does the SGS3 MHL Adapter require external power source?

Hello, I've read that you don't need an external power source for the MHL adapter for the SGS3 (http://www.galaxymhl.com/):
Samsung’s Galaxy S III can power the MHL-HDMI adapter. Although this can theoretically also be done with the standard 5-pin micro-USB connector, the Galaxy S III is believed to be the first smartphone that supports this functionality.
Can anyone confirm that this is true?
Why would you want the S3 to power it? Your phone will die in no time. If you have a TV that will support MHL, it will charge your phone. If not, you need to have the adapter plugged into a power source.

Thanks for your answer. Yeah, the issue is that the power outlet is a ways off :/
btw, the nexus 4 has Slimport instead of MHL
http://www.slimportconnect.com/
There are definite power perks for people choosing SlimPort. By using a standard micro-USB cable to display your content, you’ll be charging your mobile device’s battery. And even if you don’t have a power cable handy, SlimPort draws very little power from your device for overall low power consumption.
so it seems the main difference is that slimport doesnt require power and supports VGA, DVI, displayport, or HDMI

Samsung mini usb to HDMI adaptor requiring power source

According to Rocketfish's website, and the documentation about the device (It's on the link below) you don't need an external power source since the tablet connects to the device by way of a wireless connection. It does say that the device requires an HDTV with a USB port though, something my old cruddy HDTV I still have in my bedroom does not have (I would be using this device mostly upstairs.). Nevertheless I confirmed that if your tv doesn't have a USB port then you can use an AC adaptor to power the device. This Rocketfish device seems to be perfect. Having to use all these cables to connect my tablet to a tv is a real pain...

The Monoprice MHL adapter I have will not work on any device without external power hooked up to it. If you are using screen mirroring/ miracast for wireless display then you do not need power hooked up. The Rocketfish MiraCast receiver I have does require USB power while plugged into a TV's HDMI slot to function. Most TV's have a usb port for attaching a thumb drive or doing firmware updates and this will power the receiver. Hope this helps.

You can use a usb wall adapter for the usb power. Mine came with the small device, a short HDMI ext. cable, and the microusb power cable in the box. I have used several devices with the Miracast receiver. Be aware that most devices will require you to press the WPS button on the receiver the first time you connect it. I have used a Nexus 10, Nexus 7 (2013), Nvidia Shield, and a HTC Droid DNA with it and all work well. The Shield only required me to use the PIN number shown on the TV screen to connect, all the others required me to press the WPS button on the receiver to connect the first time. After connecting the first time all you have to go into settings on the android device to connect. You can move the receiver to a different TV and still reconnect without pressing the WPS button again. The only time you should have to repair the device is if you factory reset or install a different rom on the android device. Sorry for the long response just trying to give as much information as I know to help with your decision.

Not sure if you were asking about the Rocketfish one specifically...
I bought the OEM MHL 2.0 adapter on Amazon and can confirm that you can indeed connect to HDMI without any power source.

It should people have said the Note II compatible MHL adapters will work.
I bought one off of ebay
I bought the one below from ebay from seller nj-store and I can connect it with and without the power cord; However, it will it disconnect it by itself every 5-10 minutes regardless of whether or not it has the power connected. Has anyone tried the original Samsung MHL 2.0? If so does it require the power and also does it charge the Note while the power is connected? Cause the one I bought off of ebay does not charge the Note when the power is connected. I seen some original Samsung MHL 2.0 connectors on amazon like for $16.99 but most people think they received the MHL 1.0 because it requires power. Thanks.

Not sure if you were asking about the Rocketfish one specifically...
I bought the OEM MHL 2.0 adapter on Amazon and can confirm that you can indeed connect to HDMI without any power source.

I have the original Samsung MHL 2.0. I bought it on Amazon *from* Amazon. I paid more for it, but I wanted to ensure I was getting the genuine product... I've read a few reviews where people were getting the 1.0 (or worse yet, fakes) when buying from 3rd party sellers.
It does not require power to connect my Note II phone or Note 10.1 2014 tablet to a monitor or TV. When I do connect power, it charges both devices.
Thank for letting me know. Do you happen to have the link to the Amazon one? All I find is third parties and fulfilled by amazon. Thanks.
I just went to my Amazon account and clicked on my orders to get you a direct link... Amazon must now be out of stock on them. All I see are 3rd party vendors at the moment.

Can you post the model number of your adapter. I have gotten one suppose to be original and the model number is ET H10FAUWEGWW per the box, but the adapter itself does not have a model number but just a serial number and it says it is made in Korea. It does have this number on it KFC RE SEC ET H10FAUWE which I don't know what it is. The reason for my question is that it works well but it does not charge my note when my power adapter is attached to it. Thanks.

I'm traveling on business at the moment, so I don't have the box on me to confirm. However, I do know that the model number is ET-H10FAUWESTA - not the one you listed. I *can* confirm again that it does charge my devices as I'm currently using them in my hotel room.

Thanks for the reply. I will return the item and wait for Samsung or an authorize retailer to carry them. I have had too much bad luck buying from 3rd parties.

Just wanted to make sure about this adapter being able to charge the Note 2014 edition. I tried it on a galaxy S3 and S4 and it charge both but not the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014. It must need more power I guess cause I was using the Note 2014 edition original charger. Have you tried on the note 2014 edition?
