[Q] Google Voice Voicemail - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was previously using Google Voice for my voicemail without any issues on my VZW Gnex. I recentlly wiped and installed a new ROM on my device, and now I cant get google voice to integrate voicemail... When I try to set google voice as my voicemail service, it tells me that my carrier doesnt support automatic setup. If I go to google, i get an activation code to dial - *71[gvoice number], but that doesnt do anything. If I dail my VZW number now, it just rings forever... never goes to voicemail.
Anyone having an issue with gvoice for voicemail? Suggestions?
Thanks

Just make sure when you dial it you put *71+1+#. Needs that extra 1 before area code.

Yep I tried it both with and without the 1... no difference.

Got me. It's really just no answer call forwarding which is a Verizon calling feature. It does take longer than normal for Google voicemail to pick up because it has to go through both allotted number of rings with both Verizon and Google, but I'm sure that you're already let it ring for a while.
Only thing you might try is calling *73 to cancel everything and then start over. And make sure it's always placing the call with your Verizon number and not Google voice number. To me it sounds like either your calls have been forwarded using *72 or that calling feature is not available in your area, or your out of network. Hope that helps.

Yeah, you go to the website
google.voice.com
and you can configure your settings there.
To my knowledge, there's no way to set Google Voice as the primary way to handle voicemail, like there is on the Evo 4G.
I don't have my phone yet (being delivered today), but why would using the instructions from the google voice website not work? What happens when you try?
I think it is *28 then your google voice number.
Google voice voicemail is set between the account and your GV account... it is completely unrelated to the phone. The app can retrieve the VM's and help you setup the voicemail, but it isn't required.
Its working for me.
Hey, quick question. I set up google voice, but now it's my primary phone number for when I text my friends. Is there a way to undo this? Even after uninstalling it, my primary texting number is my google voice number.
Login from a desktop and deactive your google number. You have a limited time before losing your sprint number.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
If you go to the website voice.google.com - there's an option in there to integrate voicemail. On the phone settings you can click 'activate google voicemail on this phone'
basically it forwards the call at the last ring to your google voice voicemail and skips your sprint one.
Then that voicemail shows up in the google voice app, or you can set it to email you and even have a written transcript.
That's what I'm set up like. I dig it.
Works fine here. I had a little trouble getting it activated... I think this was because I was expecting it to switch too quickly after I set it up. You have to give it a few min/hours to start rolling your voicemail to Google Voice.
It will ask you to dial *38 and your number and it never works for me. Just make sure you have your sprint phone listed to forward to on the GV settings online and then install the app on your phone and go through the setup on the app and your voicemail will use GV...at least it does for me.
I had to remove it on my NS4G, caused me nothing but problems. And then when I did remove it I had to call sprint and have them reset my account because I was unable to receive calls and callers just got hung up on rather than connected to my voice mail.
I never let Sprint take over my GV number...I made it so I still had the choice to use my sprint or GV number. I ported my number to GV so I could go to any carrier I wanted to and have as many phone ring on the same number. I have a boost phone also that rings my GV number.
I have never been able to get voice mail without the app while my number was integrated. How do you get voicemails without the app? Do you just call your own number?

No you have to have the app
That didnt work out so well for me. If you ported for free because you are on sprint as soon as you cancel your service that number is inactive. I had to choose between my number and this phone and I took the phone and dont regret it one bit

Google voicemail issues.

Has anyone tried setting up google voice as their vm provider? I just tried and it said the phone forwarding in my gs3 csll settings.
Yeah, it doesn't work for some reason. Haven't been able to get it to work since I switched to the S3.

I haven't tried it yet, but I will be later and we'll see what happens.
Im confused. I use Google Voice for my voice mail. I set it up through my account on-line. So if I dont answer a call..it goes to Google Voice . Then I get a text with the transcript or i open google voice app and get my VM. Unless you guys are talking about something different.

I don't use my GV number as my main number. I still use my regular cell number. There is supposed to be a way where google voicemail will pick up your REGULAR cell calls instead of the att voicemail.
EDIT:
I just followed the instructions here: http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/voice/P2zifCPaYJE from Fluididdy and it worked. I had to change my phone to MOBILE (I had it to "home" as I was sharing it with another voice number). It's working now!

Google Voice issues.

Wasn't quite sure where this would go in the forum. Feel free to move it Mods.
I recently purchased a Nexus 4 from the Play Store and started a Monthly4G prepaid plan through T-Mobile. Everything works perfectly except for Google Voice. I add the T-Mobile number to the forward settings in Voice and it sets up calling just fine, but when I attempt to send text messages I get nothing but messages being "queued." I attempt to view messages in my inbox on the device I get an error saying "Network Error." Ever since adding this number I haven't been receiving notifications for new texts in Growl Voice and the Google Voice website doesn't load my inbox or settings either. Any ideas?
Thank you.
I may be wrong here, but I thought I read somewhere in the forums that Google Voice doesn't work with pre-pay T-Mo

This ^^^^ is your problem. You won't get gvoice to set up on tmo prepaid. Sorry man. Unless something has changed in the past 3 weeks.
DARKSIDE
I'm using it on mine no problem. Must use latest 4.2 compatible version. Also have to call Tmo and tell them to disable voicemail on your prepaid account then all messages will forward.

I've already called T-Mo and all that. I've had my voicemail disabled. It is more of an issue with the site's inbox not loading. It gives me an error "There was an error with your request. Please try again" and messages are constantly being queued on my Nexus 4 and 7, more so than usual. This all started when I added the N4 to my Voice call forwarding register.
What? Google voice works just fine with monthly 4g. You don't get conditional call forwarding but that's not the issue the OP is referencing.

Yeah, my internet certainly isn't out. I'm not quite sure what it is. I sign into my friend's account on my computer and it accesses the inbox just fine. It appears to be an account specific problem.
Anyone else having problems where Google voice keeps giving notifications for old voice mails when the option to show voice mails in the native phone app is enabled?
So annoying. Every 12 or so hours, it pops up with a notification for 6 voice mails or something, all of which are old. I even make sure they were shown as read in the ap, and I played all of them and made sure they were read in the phone app.

YES YOU CAN. Why is this rumor getting started. I 100% use Google Voice on my Pre-paid TMO $30 a month plan.
Disable voicemail by calling T-mobile. That way your T-mobile voicemail doesn't kick in before your GVoice mail does.
Use the Google Voice app to send and receive text messages. This way you 100% know things are getting to you. I by-pass the built in messenger app which may be why some people are having issues.
That is it.

+2 been using it since the plan launched.
When you first get the plan call T-Mobile. Ask to have voice mail disabled (there is no conditional forwarding, as has said), and also have them remove web-guard. When someone calls your phone, if you don't answer, google voice should time-out after x rings and take the voice mail (this is the reason you disable it on T-Mobile, or else T-Mobiles system will take the call).

When I try to enable GV voicemail by entering the code *004*GV Number here# I get a error message. I got this on two different Android devices. What am I missing? Are you saying once I disable the TMo voicemail this code should go through next time?
The google voice number is not the same as my mobile number if that makes a difference.
Unfortunately, i'm unable to send text messages and i'm wondering if it has to do with entering that code number through your dialer. Worked like a charm before when I was not on a prepaid plan.

You just don't worry about any of that. No need to dial anything or enter any codes.
Someone dials your google voice number, it rings until your google voicemail picks up. Simple as that.
If someone dials your pre-paid number, it will ring and ring and ring and ring.
To send texts just use the Google Voice app.

Google Voice losing out to Tmobile Vmail ;)

Okay this is weird, I had a Galaxy S2 that I must have flashed new ROMS on at least 50 times and reinstalled all my software but this is the first time I've ever left my phone stock and now Google Voice doesn't work.
I've disabled Visual Voicemail by freezing it so it's not in the picture.
Voice is installed it's all signed in, background sync is on but when a call comes in it goes to TMobile's voice mail instead. Checked settings and voicemail is set to Google Voice.
Maybe because I never stayed on stock before I'm missing something?
Perplexed,
Kevin
try uninstalling and reinstalling it, that will probably work.

Same issue here. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling voice, but still no luck. It's not a huge deal, but still kinda annoying.
Make sure your conditional call forwarding is set to forward to googles voicemail and not tmobiles. Did you just get a new sim card by any chance? The forwarding settings are stored on the sim card and I've had ROMs that simply wouldn't save the new voicemail forwarding settings... If this is the issue then go back to stock, reprogram your sim then reflash your desired ROM. Voicemail isn't handled through the "my carrier" or "Google voice" setting, its handled through conditional call forwarding.

Try deleting app from phone. Log on to Google voice on your computer. Will give u a "deactivate" code for you to disk on your phone. Then reinstall app & run setup on phone.

If you are on T-mobile prepaid plan, you do not have conditional call forwarding so you will not be able to use GV instead of T-mo's voicemail.
Problem solved. Just manually set the forwarding numbers (when busy/unreachable/unanswered) to your Google voice phone number. If ur like me and don't remember what it is just go to Google voice app settings and scroll down. Also make sure your voicemail is set to Google voice. This is all done under call settings. Ezz pzzzy

I solved the problem by calling TMO customer service and having Visual VoiceMail removed from my account. Nasty stuff, that app. It hijacked my voice mails, so that when I accessed them through normal voice mail retrieval, I never had any new messages...they were all automatically marked as "saved." :silly:
Came here after searching... Same issue. I changed conditional call forwarding and will see if that works. Silly question, no additional charges for call forwarding?

I had this same issue. It appears that Google Voice no longer sets up the call forwarding for you. I had to go into the conditional call forwarding and it worked after that. I believe they're there for unanswered, unable to reach and unavailable and they forward after that.
I had the same issue as everyone - go through the online setup from voice.google.com again and it will give you the magic # code that will update all your call forwarding and that does it for me - in addition to the settings menu that allows google voice to handle my voicemails.
Now i see voicemails in the call log and google voice is integrated there.
dont recall the hascode - but it will contian your google voice number as the end portion - this will forward all calls (from the network side) based on the status of your phone (out of range, no answer, and rejected) - you could have them each go to a different number if you really wanted to

Google Voice not ringing

I have Google Voice since it's inception. Works well with AT&T and Verizon.
Now I got T-Mobile, I've been having tons of issues. More often than not, my phone no longer ring when call mage to Google Voice.
Anyone see this issue? And yes, I stop Google Voice app and the Web interface with T-Mobile number.
Not only do you have to uninstall google voice back to Carrier you must go on your Google account and disconnect from your account.
Of course google doesn’t make it easy to find. I cannot remember the correct spot to change the options and the help was not very good.
If you don't change google then when anyone calls the caller gets a message that the google subscriber is not available. That is why your phone doesn't ring.
Make sure all phone settings have T-Mobile number. Sometimes google voice doesn’t clean up nicely.

Thanks all. Followed the instructions and so far the phone rings when someone called my Google voice number.
