Philadelphia and LTE - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey, has anybody noticed any lte testing in philly area? Does anybody know if we're next for the turn on?

yes I get LTE in Northeast today, just a moment.

Good to know that even if for a moment, I will have LTE

This is great news! I wonder if the signal will be strong enough yo reach me across the bridge and up near Burlington city. Maybe I won't be limited to get it when I go in for food or Phillies. lol

rofl i called an at&t rep today and asked him to give me a guesstamate of when lte will be available in jersey he says to me "Im going to be honest with you sir..... you live in jersey....... jerseys always last....." lmfao i wished i could shoot myself

Take this with a grain of salt, but I know a well ranked agent who is pretty close with a certain "Tiffany" who some of you may have heard of, and supposedly the Phila switch is going to be flipped sometime in the third week of August. Don't get your hopes too high because there are bound to be hiccups along the way, but I'm sure I'll hear more as we move into August. CANT WAIT!!!
Edit: Just in time for shared everything plans lol.. At least it's going to be optional.

How will I be able to tell if I have LTE active will it say it next to the 4G icon?

well i was never technically on 4g down here but i went from about 6-8mbps to 20 mbps
they turned it on from miami north to west palm and I am in the most northern part so im assuming the fort lauderdale - miami area probably has the better speeds than i do here, but it is alot faster

Same here I'm in Philadelphia. Don't quite get why at&t skipped us in the first deployment.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747

Metro areas that had "sufficient" 3G coverage were automatically skipped through the first and sometimes second pass of LTE implementation.
Squeakiest wheels got the grease first, is what I've heard and read.
Incidentally, don't be too upset about this, as LTE (from personal experience) has not been all that great anyway. I've been in Chi, Miami/Ft.Laud, DC and Baltimore and only in one of those markets (frigging Baltimore of all places!!) was I getting better than 11Mbps down and better than 6Mbps up (i got 17Mbps down, 10Mbps up). Both DC and Miami/Ft.Laud were marginally slower than my home WiFi which is typically around 10Mbps down and 6Mbps up, and Chicago was absolutely pathetic all three times I've been there since Feb, coming in roughly on par with Philly-area HSPA+/4G.
Incidentally, my experience has been with this phone as well as my Note i717, both top-end devices.
Plus, remember that even a strong LTE signal (let alone a weak one, god forbid....) will drain the piss out of your battery, a heck of a lot quicker than good old fashioned HSPA+.
Just my $.02.

Yes, only as they are testing tho. They have not turned them on to us yet. Very Promising!! More info a S4GRU.com.
It's comforting to know that after I receive my 32GB, I will just replace refreshing the myorder site multiple times a day with refreshing the spring coverage map multiple times a day.

I'm surprised there isn't more chatter about Sprint's LTE plans on this forum. I think the success or failure of the NV program will make or break this phone, and Sprint itself. For sure it affects my own decisions about both. The timing will be critical.
p.s. I second the recommendation about the s4gru.com site. It is must reading for anyone who cares about the Sprint rollout, and who wants to make an informed choice. There is also a deep font of knowledge there about RF stuff.

I agree 100%. The rollout of NV & LTE is the crux of Sprint as a network thus far. Def going to be a make or break time for Sprint in the next few quarters, especially with regard to timing. They need to make a significant impact, and soon.
Also, just saw where Buffalo, NY got some love.

I'm down in Owatonna/Mankato and they don't even have VZW 4G down here yet. The lady at the AT&T store said that it would be rolled out by the end of 2012, but I don't know how much she really knows hehe. HSDPA is pretty good down here though, only place I've dropped to edge is driving in between Lesuer, Steele, and Waseca county.
I hope southern MN gets lit soon. I hear that AT&T doesn't have the greatest data coverage in Iowa/Wisconsin.
Ohh WoW .. my brother should be excited to hear this .. he has the One X and has been waiting patiently for LTE in his area.

Awesome! I'll be at the Minneapolis Int'l Monday! Will be my first LTE experience I guess.
I let Minneapolis to head to Chicago for the week. To my surprise at security check when I pulled out my Note to scan my Delta boarding pass I saw LTE lit up. Speed was amazing as I have seen in KC and Chicago before. However, when I go to my gate in G Concourse LTE was gone. Hopefully this means its coming soon.

LTE speeds for Rogers users or others in Ontario

Just curious what some of you Rogers users ( and some other lte users on other carriers in Canada) are getting for your LTE throughputs on your S3's?
Rogers used to pretty poor at first launch but I must say that now they have vastly improved and I'm now averaging 30-45mbps in the GTA with peaks in the mid 50's!
Very happy about it..now I just wish they would expand their coverage for lte just a bit cuz it ends two blocks from my new house!
Post your speed test results if u like.

I'm with bell on a GSIII and my girlfriend is with Rogers on HTC One X. I get a maximum of about 25mbps and she got around 30mbps last night. Indoors we typically only get HSPA+, LTE is mostly outside or in the car. We live along the Lake Shore, east of Park Lawn.
I usually get 40+mbs at the minimum. Very happy with a 6 gb plan

Yeah, I'm hoping they expand the network quickly, I don't get any coverage where I am (approx. 2h north of the GTA). Though it does help my battery life
I'm pulling about 7mb/s with HSPA+
Im on Bell and generally hit 25-30 down around the gta... have hit high 40s a few times...
I'm in Vancouver and the speed is quite amazing as I got 45ish Mbps at home. 25-30 Mbps at office or at the restaurants.
It outruns my home network by almost 3 times.......

I dont think it is a phone problem, from the looks of it you have poor signal strength. Unless you can compare side by side with a comparable phone like an Iphone or S3,. But more or less it is a sprint problem there data speeds have been on the decline.
Yup, normal for sprint. Your pings are pretty good actually. Mine can be up to several seconds. During the day my data drops to <10kbps, like a 9600 baud modem from 1993. Enjoy Sprint.

Yes i had wimax but never used it because of battery drain. The speeds on my old Evo were all 3g and i would always get atleast 1mb down now im barely getting .1mb down
Yes sprint data sucks..
Don't have an explanation then... 3G speeds for me have always been fairly consistent. If anything I found the Evo to be a little lackluster in this area. I wouldn't say the 3G speeds I get on my N2 are groundbreaking, but they're adequate.

"...compared to my droid razr." He didn't say it was slow in general.
OP, I've noticed a decrease in speed with my One, compared to other phones from what I remember (it's been a while since I've done a speed test with another phone), however it could be that more and more people are getting LTE capable phones at a fast pace, which can result in slower speeds. Network congestion and whatnot.

One thing I learned is speed test is never accurate and you will constantly see the network in many areas the lte speeds are never constant. Where I live my speeds has been 12 best and that's with the bolt, rezound, and one. So to many variables to say its the phone but I have seen the gnex suffer with speeds. I would ask if the op right after testing the one did he run it on his droid?

Speed tests are pretty accurate. Just depends on congestion. Seattle has a greater pop. than Raleigh which has a greater pop. than SE Iowa and the speeds are inversely proportional to that. I just pulled 30mbps in KC but its also 5:35 am. During the day I can only get around 17mbps.

I live over around North Raleigh/Wake Forest. Interesting to hear the speed difference on the opposite side of the city.

I live in far up north raleigh, near Falls Lake. At home I usually get around 6-8 down. 4G is really not that great where I live.
You think that's slow? Heh, good thing you don't live in the northeast. The 4G network has gone to crap here from Washington DC all the way to Boston. There are places where you can hit below 1 Mbps, or worse, completely unusable during the daytime. I can only get 20 when I'm either standing below a tower or in the middle of a cornfield out west.
Even Verizon admits it's getting really bad in large cities.
I just tested mine. I live in Sussex County, NJ, which is in the sticks.
