[Q] Why would my One X be S-OFF as supplied new? - HTC One X

The phone came from America brand new but it's an international model? (CID- 11111111), It has a Gyro - rotation sensor fault (screen doesn't rotate, compass doesn't work etc)that needs a HTC warranty repair.
I decided to restart and do a factory reset from the boot menu and I was quite alarmed to see that although the device is locked, it has S-OFF! I've no idea why it would be S-OFF from new? I'm somewhat concerned that it might effect my warranty claim.
I've only had the phone for 2-3 days and it's all the standard HTC software, OTA to the 0.11 version.

It happens, sometimes they slip through the net.

You are very lucky to get an s-off device; did you check you check to see whether or not screen rotation is enabled (options->screen)? The compass can be flaky when wifi in enabled, so disable it.

Yes, checked the settings etc, reset a couple of times but it's a no go.
Thanks for the replies. :good:

I would demand the same CID and S state from the warranty though because they will probably change the mainboard ; is your bootloader unlocked, relocked or locked? Check first before you send your device away because if it is (re)locked you probably will be out of warranty but since you have s-off people here might be able to get your bootloader to locked status

It's locked, the phone is just a couple of days old and has only recieved the OTA's.

You're good to go to get it swapped/repaired, really a shame though because you were very lucky to get an s-off/supercid device
BTw it's kind off strange you received on OTA because devices with supercid shouldn't receive them :s maybe you should report here

Phone came with unlocked bootloader?

so kinda bothersome....but not really i dont guess....was following directions on droidlife to unlock bootloader. Noticed it said bootloader unlocked but went on anyway. typed fastboot oem unlock and it says error, already unlocked. Guess my nexus shipped already unlocked? Is this possible?
also under signing it says engineering....one in droid life photo says production....anybody else?
You have a protoype or dev phone. I have one as well. It doesn't really make a difference because these bootloaders can be locked again (I think).
Not sure about you, but I wouldn't enjoy having an engineering model. Never know what could happen in the future depending on how new or old it is. Where did you get it from?
I purchased from verizon store yesterday.....build date of 11/18 I think it said
So you are saying that from the very first boot you had the white unlock icon on the startup screen where it says GOOGLE in white?
I doubt you got a dev or proto...
maybe someone returned one? or maybe ur sales rep unlocked it for you (lol)
if it bothers you return it and unlock it yourself lol

Hi,
I bought my nexus in Germany (Saturn stores). I just found out that my GN was also unlocked. I never flashed a phone before so i was not sure what to make out of it.
And indeed now that you say it the white GOOGLE text has come up on boot from the first time i booted him.
So any cool things i can do with a dev phone? Any disadvantages?

A month ago he returned from service after the exchange and power up the speaker key, reinstall the software service
I asked for a brief tutorial how to fix it?
I tested the Sony PC Companion but I only get an error 100 ...
Thank you so much for your help (written using Google Translator)
There are currently no found solutions to the issue yet. You have to return the device to a Sony service center (note that the warranty won't cover it).

10/20/2015 I put the phone in for service. I read somewhere that the guarantee is applicable to it. What kind of bug is it all about? Why and how did this happen?

Some users have reported that after returning their devices to a service center, they were told that warranty doesn't cover it. Users and developers went through the problem here and didn't find any solutions, but most of your questions will be answered there.
Disregard my comment on the thread. I wasn't completely aware of the problem at the time.

It's weird Whereas mobile service came recently from him ... And because Christmas tiero end of warranty so that terraces down. After returning from service the phone went a bit weird but it was not until such trouble that I reinstalled it using a Sony PC Companion
Phone came from complaints for the verdict 'corrected'
So I did not pay anything for it under warranty
"The problem was caused by hardware defect on the base plate. The defect was a removal in exchange baseplates"
Install android SD card
I can install android on the SD card? , because the internal memory is damaged
I have the same problem.
There's no soft solution for this.
'cause it has locked the eMMc, nothing will happen if we'll do flashmode/fastboot
Only the sol., is replacing the motherboard

HTC repair service is untrusted!

Last week I got my battery replace by HTC HK, the receipt clearly said it only replace the battery, after I get back my phone I found the upper part of the screen sometime will be non responsive, today I call HTC HK again and they say according to their computer record my screen module also got replaced, what the.... the worst is they don't have parts in stock for replacement, I need to wait at least 2~3 week just for the parts.
My screen is fine before replace the battery, I don't know why HTC replace it secretly.

I don't think they have the technology to suck the battery out of the USB port just yet.

and I don't think they allow to replace my working screen with a bad one without my permission and not notify me.
anyway, I just get a confirmation from local consumer council which said it is HTC fault to replace my screen without my permission and not notify me, HTC may break the law in here due to they replace my parts without my permission and not notify me at all.
as the case now go through the consumer council and they may forward to other government department about the legal issue, I cannot comment on this topics anymore.

Some youtube guys called the 10 the medusa of all phones to repair. So its hardly possible to remove the battery without damaging the screen because there is glue everywhere.

Update from Verizon

I got this message to update my phone. I am gonna call verizon and tell them to stop sending me stupid messages like this.
Anyone else get this text from verizon?

I am still running Build AQGL and reading all the negative posts on here about the last few updates. I think I will just stay on this build. Still gonna call the big V and be put on the do not ever bother list.
It's funny they try to scare you into updating your phone. I have never ever had an issue with calling out.
well good luck not being able to make calls to certain devices. I can't understand why you wouldn't want to be informed of OS issues like this. suit yourself.

Funny I don't have issues... If I did I would just go back to using my rooted Moto X Pure anyway or the Note 4. I always have a few phones to use on standby.
Plus there are alot of negitive posts about the updates and people wanting to flash back so why take the update. I don't see a reason.
Don't try to fix what's not broke. So far my S8+ is doing well other than we can't unlock the bootloader and root.
I will move on to another device before long that is. :good:
:silly:
Another reason not to update... You do these updates and all Verizon does is put more crap apps on your phone... I would never buy a branded verizon phone again. unlocked is the only way to go.
Then you don't get to ***** when the tides are turned and the unlocked versions are the last ones to get any kind of update on them. Cause lately that's what I've been seeing...the unlocked versions may not have any "carrier bloat" but they are SO FAR behind in updates (Security or OS updates)

Don't really care about updates... If the phone works I leave it alone!!
If I was worried about it I would go back to rooting and do the custom ROM thing again.

IS there anyway to downgrade boot loader note 10 plus n975f

Is there any way to downgrade bootloader note 10 plus n975f, I have installed one UI 2.1 latest august security patch with N975FXXU6CTGD bootloader, Problem is My mobile is demo unit and someone installed patch with IMEI match in it and it was working fine until I did a mistake of upgrading. now its apparently not possible to downgrade or get back mobile networks back. Is there any solution to my problem. IMEI showing fine and when I check status by #*1234# and its showing status NG. I want to get come back the call option to make calls please help me if there any solutions. I have tried chimera and it says unsupported modem try to install different firmware. My humble request to XDA developer to look at it and get back to me with a solution, would be a genius act.

All the stuff you mention sounds really shady, as all demo units are not to be used as regular ones, in other words, the demo units are issued to carriers and official distributors, and never intended to be sold to public, thence, having one is not normal, no help will be offered here, as it is illegal in most countries to tamper IMEI numbers, which is a common practice with stolen and red flagged devices, next time gather enough money to buy a legal device
@ farhan_ali790 - Some things you have been saying within regards to this phone are quite unsettling. Either your mistaking what phone you really have, a communication/detail issue, or you got the phone second hand and this is the way it was when you got it.
Either way the following will be of interest:
If you have a demo phone then it should not work on the cellular network. Those are for demonstration purposes so people can see what the phone looks like, see how the screen looks and get a chance to use the apps on it. For this reason the phone was made in such a way that the ability to connect to the cellular network will not work. If you truly and really do have a demo phone then it will not be able to access the cell network.
If your claim is you have a demo phone and that it is showing (or had the IMEI number changed/patched to show) as a N975F and your talking about a patched IMEI number then sorry, but your most likely out of luck here. The discussions of tampering or altering an IMEI number are not allowed due to such actions being illegal in a lot of places. Contact the person whom patched the IMEI for you for help on this one.
It has been mentioned numerous times that flashing a bootloader higher then what is currently on the phone is a one way street. You can not downgrade the bootloader. Please take the time to do some research on the subject if you have further questions on it.
