Anyone have AT&T Insurance? Lost phone same as cracked? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I got insurance from AT&T on day 1 and cracked my phone about a week ago. I went to a relatives recently and somehow misplaced my phone at their house. They still haven't managed to find it.
If I submit a claim with AT&T, can I report the phone as lost instead of just cracked? From what I understand, I will still only have to pay $190 in a deductable. If I find the phone later on, would I have to send it to them or could I keep it as a backup?
I really need a phone and from what I understand, a lost phone's deductable is the same as a cracked phone (where you send it in), correct?

The deductible is the same price as the phone ($199) but you only have to pay this once so, you could break your phone many times and still get another one. It takes them about two or three days to send the replacement device. Then you have ten days to send in your broken device or the charge your bill for like $550.

Yes you are correct. That's the only thing I hate about insurance

It says it covers a lost phone, so would a lost phone be $550 or $199? (Not sending in the lost phone)

$199

Okay thanks! I'm so confused now though lol.
If you select broken damage and don't send in your phone, it's $550 total. But if you select lost and dont send in your phone, it's $199?
Just making sure it's okay to select lost and not wait until I file the claim once we see if we can still find the phone.

If its broken you have to send it in..or you'll be charged the full amount...if reported lost....well you can't really send it in can you. Just report it lost and pay the $199.

alright, thanks!!! Just worried that I would get charged more by selecting Lost. So frustrated. We were looking forever and couldn't find anything.
"IF" they managed to find it later on, who am I supposed to send the phone to?

If reported lost the imei of that phone will be blacklisted ...meaning it may no longer work for At&t. So if you end up finding it later....you have a cool music player, paper weight, sell for parts or even sell for use on a 3rd party carrier.

I managed to shatter my screen and found the whole insurance process frustrating and annoying. But for $199 I got my replacement phone in any color i wanted as long as it was white. I had and and wanted blue, but ce la vie.

I've lost a phone before, was the same deductible and I got a new phone instead of a refurbished one. Just say you lost it which is completely true. If you find it later, I wouldn't recommend using it on your line since att will detect the imei.

Total Equipment Protection, replace my phone or not...

I have recently damaged the usb slot on my epic 4g touch and its not possible to transfer files directly from pc to phone anymore. but i can still charge it.
i was about to order a replacement since I have TEP but I have a few questions. I have read that people who have TEP have been able to upgrade their phone from one generation to the next(say from the og epic to the 4g touch). Not saying thats what i will do but i'm just curious how its possible to get a DIFFERENT phone using TEP.
Bonus question: should I replace it now or just wait? I know this is the epic 4g touch but what do people think about any of the other current generation phones? My upgrade is coming until next June lol

What? No they do not. Lol. They charge $35 for someone WITHOUT Tep. The exact same rules apply at a 3rd Party Store as they do at a corporate store. You can't just make baseless assertions like that.

Yes, it's a $100 deductible (non-refundable) for any insurance claim. You should have taken it to a repair store, and they could have fixed it for free and used the insurance claim (which you started with) as a last resort.
Why ask a question, and then ignore everyone's advice and do your own thing?

*/Edit- Just noticed you said you haven't submitted it, GO TO A SPRINT STORE and save yourself some money
I have not submitted my phone yet. I was in the process of doing so when i made this thread
I will give that a go since I will be in town tomorrow afternoon, i didnt realize they could fix it for free
If you have an Epic Touch, that's the only thing on the list for exchange, no other devices.
$35 is for those without TEP to get the phone repaired or exchanged.
$100 deductible is for insurance claims. Things like lost, stolen, liquid damaged, or physically damaged beyond repair.
You cant do repairs online only in stores. Check sprint.com and check locations cuz not all corporate stores do repairs. They will inspect your phone. If its unfixable they will order a replacement. First thing they will ask you "have you try a factory reset?" Lol. Usually i tell them that i try that already, before they ask me so they can speed things up. That question gets annoying when its an obvious hardware problem. And yes they do replace your phone with newer models if they dont have the old one in stock or they no longer offer it. I know people who got their original evos replace with the evo 3d
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Getting upgraded through via Asurion is a pretty long shot because they usually have a stock of refurb, or even new in box, Epic Touch phones. The only time you would normally get an offer for different phone, from my experience, is a) after your 3rd replacement (not necessarily newer, more like a lateral change), b) no stock of your current phone, or c) get on the store manager's good side (in which case the replacement phone will likely be taken off the shelf).
Don't forget, TEP isn't an upgrade program... though it does, on a very rare occasion, act as such.
Take it to a store and see what they can do for you. Also, you have a PM
You can also keep your phone and use a app such as wifi explorer to transfer stuff to sd
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
You can install a FTP server app on the phone and pull files off of it with a pc, FTP client program and both on your same home network. Its not difficult

What is Asurion like these days?

So when I connect my phone via USB the first time it doesn't connect to the computer. I have to unplug/plug back in then it connects. But a lot of times after connecting it once I unplug the phone it stops connecting until I restart the phone. Other times I go to look at my internal memory and it won't load the file list (from My Files on the phone).
Anyway, I am thinking about trying to get it replaced, but had a few questions I was hoping someone could answer.
1. Are they replacing the phones with refurbs or new phones?
2. Is there an outrageous wait time? I had an Epic 4G Touch break months after launch and they told me I'd have to wait like three weeks.
Depending on the answers I may just stick with this one and deal with the restarting all the time. And please skip the "O that's not a real problem"....comments. I pay $11 for TEP a month so I'll use it if I want.
Why are you using asurion. You wojld have to pay a 100 dollar deductible through i asurion. Im sure your just uneducated on what your paying for.Why not take it to sprint and have them replace it. Its called a manufacturers warranty? And asurion is replacing the gs3 right now with brand new in the box phones.

Because I HATE Sprint stores around my area. They give me a hard time on the littlest of things and are terrbily ineffective.
If I go to them with that issue how easy is it going to be to get replaced? And I still have to pay the deductible right?
EDIT: To me if I can get it fast through Asurion and avoid going to the store its a plus. I remember I had an Curve 8330 replaced through them once and they had sent it out real quick and then I sent my phone back. But it was a refurb and in worse condition than mine -_-.
I've had to use Assurion 3 times with my E4GT, and the service has been great. The replacement arrives the next day (depending on what time you report the problem). It's all done on the website, and works very efficiently. My last replacement was a new in the box replacement, with battery, cables, manuals, etc. I just hate the $100 deductible. Going to buy an SGS III at Best Buy today, unless someone has a good reason why not...

Like I said asurion is a 100 dollar deductible. Call sprint and have then send you a replacement most likely it won't be a refurb but a new unit without a battery. The phone is so new that refurbs are not really out there companies like Verizon and sprint and so on have a back supply of phones without packing to replace defective devices. Also sprint with tep will next day your replacement phone. Over the phone service gets you out of going to a store.

I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes. Sprint always gives me a hassle over everything but it is worth not having to pay the deductible.
The Galaxy s III is actually $150 from Asurion. Currently the phone is too new for for refurbs to be sent out. You wold receive a new one. For the issue you are stating though, make sure you have samsung adb drivers installed to your pc. Otherwise it will not connect properly. This has been the biggest reason for it not connecting with customers coming in the store here.
If it is connected, ensure USB Debugging is not on as there are many times the stores will forget to turn that off after transferring your information.
Also make sure Connected as Media Device is also checked under settings. '
If all else fails bring it into the store to have it checked out. However be advised they will likely reset the phone in their conquest to fix it.

Take the issue to the store. There are ways to make it seem like your phone needs swapped. Most places verify and swap.
Through Asurion, you're gonna pay $150 deductible. TEP went to $11. So did the deductible.

I've had this problem too. In my case, switching from MTP>PTP>MTP get's it working ok. The other workaround that I use a lot is Airdroid, let's transfer files to/from the phone over wifi. Idk why Samsung didn't put in UMD!
I messed up and forgot to call to add TEP and was a bit nit picky about taking on the Radio Shack insurance...
Asurion 150 deductible is only for tablets. Smart phones are 100. Go to the asution website and verify.

Deductible is $150 for the SG3
Taken from the deductible tool found here:
To determine your deductible and monthly charge:
Select your device's manufacturer and model. Samsung Galaxy III 16GB
deductible is $150
Your charge is $11 per month, per device, if enrolled in Total Equipment Protection(TEP)

3rd party..last I knew corporate stores don't do repairs anymore. At least not here in NY. Just go to any authorized repair center. If it's a hardware failure and not due to abuse or mishandling they should cover it for the $35..I replaced my OG Evo twice for a busted USB port and once for a bad speaker this way.

Sorry, OP. That sucks balls and I feel for you. Just got home from Best Buy with a brand new Note II, myself, after I complained about the battery life on my original Note II. I had no idea the rep would offer me a brand new phone on the spot, no questions asked, no money down. That's about the only thing BB is good for... their insurance. If you had BB insurance, they would have either given you a brand new phone on the spot with a zero deductible or they would have tried to repair your phone and eventually given you a new phone, anyway. Make sure not to let anyone touch your baby! This is an $800 computer!
Really sucks OP. Stories like yours make me paranoid. I bought a Squaretrade warranty, two years, for $90 and $100 replacement deductible. Hope I never need to use it though.

Check the credit card you used for the original phone purchase ... many offer 90 day protection for loss or damage. I always use my Visa Signature card for this reason on phone purchases. If your card does not cover it, repair cost would have been much cheaper than a second phone (plus two years of data).

Question about Insurance Claim through T-Mobile

I just made an insurance claim through T-Mobile because my wife dropped her GS3 and cracked the screen. The phone still works but I don't want her walking around with a ghetto ass cracked screen. I had to make the claim directly through T-Mobile instead of Asheron because when we purchased our GS3's the REP removed the insurance and they had to re-add it a couple weeks later. No problem making the claim but they told me that I had to ship the broken phone back to them. My question is....Do I really need to ship the broken phone back? What if she had lost the phone and didn't have a phone to ship back. What if we don't ship the phone back? What are they going to do?

If the phone gets lost or stolen you have to pay a deductible. Don't quote me on that though. That's just how I remember it being a few years ago. And if you send the one with the broken screen back then they might charge you as well because you're the one that broke it. Like I said, that's how I remember it used to be. I don't know if it still works the same.
They send you a new or refurbished phone. Around a year ago I had a problem with my Galaxy S2, and they shipped me a new phone in less than 24 hours. I went through T-Mobile, not the insurance place. You get the phone in the mail and there are instructions on how you send the defective phone back. If you don't send the defective phone back, you will be charged full price for the Galaxy S3. Also, it has to be shipped back within 24 hours. In my opinion, it's a great deal. When I sent my GS2 back, I was told I could keep the battery, which was kick ass. Why wouldn't you want to send the phone back after the new one arrives?

I had to pay a deductible of $130. What happens if she lost the phone? Would they charge you a higher deductible due to not being able to return a phone? The reason I ask is because I think it's silly that they want the broken phone back after I paid a deductible. They are going to ship the phone back to Samsung and then Samsung is going to replace the glass which I'm sure cost less than $130 so in the end, T-Mobile actually makes money off my deductible. I my wife were to lose the phone in the beginning then I would have no phone to return and I'm pretty sure T-Mobile would have charged me the same deductible. Maybe my wife just may have to lose the phone tomorrow within the next couple days or so.

Note 2 only working with AT&T sim...weird. help

bought a T-Mobile Note 2 off craigslist. The guy had it unlocked, using it on AT&T.
I tried putting it in my TMo sim and got no data. It would just search for signal. It was rooted, so I restored the newest firmware via ODIN. Didn't help at all. I then rooted it again, flashed newest kernel and modem using CWM. Still my t-mo sim gets zero signal. It is stuck at searching. Yet when I put that same SIM into any other phone, works great.
I then put my AT&T sim into that Note 2 and it works great. Even data.
I checked the APN and everything. What am I doing wrong?
It probably was reported lost or stolen. When that happens they turn out off via IMEI.
So if you're caught with a stolen item then it could mean jail time or fines. Good luck.
Sorta unrelated, how much do GNII's be going for on CL these days
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
I've been searching and I've seen them (probably stolen) go for a little as $320. No battery, no S-Pen and no battery door. My coworker wants one and I told him I'll go with him to see if it works so I can pop my battery in and check the IMEI. He was a bit weary.
Another one, popped up yesterday for $350 I asked if he can prove if it worked and no reply. Lol
I can guarantee that a good 90% of Note 2 and probably other phones on CL are stolen or unpaid for with the carrier or will be reported stolen after the sale in order to get insurance benefit. If you can't provide the buyer with your original receipt, you're running a scam, simple as that.

Here in Boston, AT&T ones command top dollar because they're much rarer. Sprint, Tmo, VZW are going for about $375-400. AT&T: $400 for one without box, etc and up to $550 for a BNIB.

yeah man. I searched for over a month to get myself one. Most had no boxes, etc/bad IMEI. Going for closer to $400. I lucked out. Found an older gentleman who had a BNIB Grey one, which I was able to pick up for $450 because he wanted an iPhone. Met him at his home. Gave me the original receipt. Totally legit.

I can guarantee that a good 90% of Note 2 and probably other phones on CL are stolen or unpaid for with the carrier or will be reported stolen after the sale in order to get insurance benefit. If you can't provide the buyer with your original receipt, you're running a scam, simple as that.

Yup, it's as simple as that. I spent a month finding the correct one. Two of my friends got screwed (one yesterday as above), but were able to contact the guy and get their money back.
gotta be careful these days. My advice is to check the IMEI these days.
Skip ones without charger, box, s-pen, etc. Because they're probably the most sketchy ones.
Looking to buy a blocked imei note 2, can anyone help me get one ??

I just bought one off ebay from a individual that sells new phones for $620 and no tax free shipping. In the past you could buy off a phone off Craigslist and have no problem. That's what I was about to do til I heard how easy someone can sell a phone and then in a day or two, file claim that it was stolen to get another phone. That phone will work, till they blacklist the imei. I talked to a sales rep about that situation and one option is to get the imei number from the seller before u buy it, and call Tmobile to check it.Then as soon as you buy the phone register the phone in your name. The rep said it take less than 5min if they're not busy and can be done on the phone. If a seller can't give you the imei number to check don't buy it. I had a seller off Craigslist not finished the sale cause I wanted to check the imei number.

If your going to buy a t-mobile note 2, meet the seller at a t-mobile store and have it checked and activate it, then let the store register it also to your account. Best and safest way. I got mine when i added a free line, paid $450, with a $50 rebate. I think That's the safest way you can get a note 2.

The only reason I ask is considering I only paid 365 out the door, 20 bucks added to my bill for 2 months while waiting for my 200 rebate and to "save" the additional 160, my phone in less than 3 months is paid off and my bill for unlimited everything is like 70 a month...
So essentially I don't see why anyone would even waste their time on CL for this phone
