There is a guy that deals in an Android unit for Rover 75 and MG ZT with all the Chinese variants.
I however as mentioned plumped for the cheaper WinCE unit.

Just shove a Nexus 7 in the gap, 3.5ml to phono to your amp, 12v micro USB car adaptor, problem solved xD

Great now a non stable car stereo that crashed every 2 minutes... just what i need on a long drive.

Yup cheaper, but you got a problem there. No remote for the buttons on the steering wheel. When used to those, its hard to get rid of
And the sound output is much worse compared.

Android 2.2 6,5" CAR Device
There is an Android 2.2 800Mhz 256MB 8GB 6,2" TFT CAR DVD on sale (800 USD to door in Russia) that I have bought recently and after some software installations it does deliver what I have wanted to have in the car.
Nevertheless there are a few major complaints to its performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cx53a6N7_ws
As well there are several other minor things that would be great to change if possible.
If there is someone interested and able to cook a custom ROM for this device - I can send this device for free as a gift and for experiments. We really want a good ROM for this CA-Fi Car Stereo and the guy's in China don't seem caring enough.
I will check this thread once in a while and provide contact details for anyone interested in developing this device. It is very close to being a great thing for a CAR!
I have updated my email in the XDA profile so you can as well use this option to contact me.
PS
I Have a ROM update file (192MB) that came from the device vendor (dealer). I can send it out for revision.
The way to install this rom on the car stereo is to extract files to the root of a microSD card, insert it, switch off the device, then, while holding the screen tapped, power on – the device starts an install mode. When finished it asks for screen calibration and restarts with a new rom as after a hard reset (erases everything).

And there is the Parrot as well.

i've gone down the route of car pc etc, it was running win 7.
to be honest, they're wayyy to much fuss and aggro.
the sound quality sucked, the screen was **** (it was cheap - £250 "cheap") and broke shortly after a year of having it.
a decent head unit, with either apt x bluetooth dongle plugged in, or just the 3.5mm with hox is much much better. sound quality is way better, and i don't have to put up with some slow 800mhz cpu when all i want is to be driving whilst listening to music
just a fyi for those considering, its a huge cost, for not actually that much benefit (unless you live in your car)

CA-Fi Android Car Radio
I understand you if you only need to have music playing while driving, as well as some people who still prefer using monochrome cell phones. This is a matter of needs.
Regarding the sound quality of this particular CA-Fi device its surprisingly fine. I use its 4x45W out lines conneted directly to car OEM speakers (its a Chrysler PT) and the subwoofer RCA out channel connected via a 1KW Kenwood amplifier to a large Polk Audio woofer. With the available in this device GEQ and Bass/Treble settings the unit provides perfectly sharp and clear sound in the high+mid ranges for the OEM speakers that in company with the powerful sub make a really impressive rich and clear sound scene with no distortion at any volume.
This sound setup is very easy and efficient. Honestly, to my hearing it is not lacking comparing to my previous JVC Mosfet 192/24 DAC car stereo that was routed through amplifiers for all channels to Focal speakers instead of the OEM... That was too much trouble for the gained advantage. Again, depending on the needs. Trully - the sound of this Android Radio is fine, a sound of a branded Hi-Fi car stereo.
And if you had a Win7 Car PC setup that is quite complicated to arrange you should agree that this easy one-box Android PC solution is a great idea. It provides the music and all the tablet PC advantages. It's really nice after switching on the ignition to hear from your car that you have a new e-mail arrived, and enjoy other goodies like that.

yes, I considered the Parrot, but found it limited for modifications and with a too small screen. There is as well a Clarion at present under development, but it does not appeal to me neither. It is a concept from the Clarion Malaysia division and most likely will be limited for modifications; if it will ever be released at all:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNQC56S5NFI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1TFiy2Dsdg
I really have spent some plenty of time on the web before selecting this CA-Fi device and I couldnt find anything better. To be honest I even went trough a mistake and loss of money by ordering an Android/WinCE dual OS device first (by the way its refferted to above in this thread). Result - I installed it into my dad's car (its better than his OEM 2003 Mercedes device anyway). But that one is wierd. My advice: be aware not to get one of those by mistake. For example, mine had GPS only in WinCE and 3G only in Android - so I couldnt have the Navigation system working along with traffic updates.... this spoiled everything for me.
PS
Important to know that CA-Fi offer a few dozens of versions of the same model with different front panels to match many of original car dashboards without the need of modifying the panels - the device fits in as a replacement for the OEM unit! As well for those who think that there are many different Android car stereos to choose from - this may be the same model with different front facing.
Like theese are the same device:

Beats?

Hey i was wondering what's up with the Beats on the HTC one X, is it just marketing or do you get beats Earphones with the one X?
Also does one x have USB on-the-go and a feature like S beam (300mbps)
Beats is just an EQ setting, no headphones this time round.
As for S-Beam it does have WiFi direct which is used by S-Beam anyway just no quick NFC pairing.
s beam claims to transfer at 300mbps, does the wi fi direct on the one x that fast?

Beats adds no value over a 3rd party eq etc. and is otherwise just a marketing have.
The headphones that come with the HTC one X belong in the Bin along with all the other stock headphone that come with any other device.

Whilst I have binned every set of ear/head phones that came with something, I actually don't mind these earphones that came with my HOX from vodafone Australia. I agree - my uk hox came with alright headphones (best stock headphones I've EVER had). I personally think beats sounds alright as well (even though it is just a software ting); , of course, you're an audiophile and can be bothered re-EQing for every single different song you listen to. I've produced and recorded a couple of albums so don't consider myself 'deaf' and but maybe I'm just not that fussed about studio quality sound when I'm on my way to work...
I think it can be taken with a pinch of salt, and everyone will have different hearing thresholds. There's far too many web sites that dive far too in depth into chipsets, and the like and basically rip a phone apart. Unfortunately the average consumer enthusiast like ourselves, will take this information on board and choose a phone based on these supposed facts.
At teh end of the day, if one sounds better to you than the other, go buy it. most stores have a live testing device or a few, so take your headphones and play some tunes on them. Only then can you decide what is best for your ears, not anyone elses.
Let's face it, we've come a long way from carrying a phone and separate mp3 player
Yea i doubt S beam can get to 300mbps but it would still be fast than standard WIFI Direct in other phones
Also GSMarena says that the HTC one X doesn't have Image stabilization Built in, is that true?
Vodafone austria here and mine did come with Beats by Dr. Dre

A friend brought an unlocked One X in the UK just a few weeks after it was launched and he did get the Beats headphones... I think HTC has stopped bundling the special headphone now.
As said beats is just dynamic compression with slight boosts to treble and bass , you can get the same and better with any eq app.

Any chance we might see an FM radio tuner app for nexus 7 ?

According to here: http://www.ubmtechinsights.com/google-nexus-7-teardown/ there is an
AzureWave AW-NH665 chip which is endowed with an FM radio tuner. It would be really awesome if some talented soul could develop an app for that!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
It depends on whether or not the bcm4330 chip actually sends power to that module. I haven't seen that module fire up in dmesg. That could mean that we simply need a driver for it. The fm framework is already out there. I'm not really a hardware guy but just some thoughts.

On another note, I have been playing with Samsung & HTC modules & drivers for the 4330 (Vivid & Captivate Glide) & I am getting 5Ghz wireless-n working sporadically. Just as HTC has added the capability to newer roms, it would also be possible for it to be supported quite easily by Asus as well. Would be great for streaming.
I would love to see this as I'm sure many would who wish to use the FM Radio for and N7 in a car install, I would gladly pay into double figures for this feature, any devs wishing to take it up there is a big market for getting fm radio working on the n7, do it and watch the £££ fly in ........
I doubt if a driver without an antenna would work - and I saw no sign of an FM antenna in the teardown.
5GHz support would be sweet... Antique adapters in the house really keep me speed limited on 2.4GHz (54MBS)..
That really sucks about the antenna. sometimes I like to listen to the football games out in the yard. Guess I'll have to use my phone.

I think perhaps the most definitive answer to this would be from Mike Reed, who I believe has a Nexus 7 and is also the author of the Spirit FM app. In this post it looks like he thinks it'll never happen.
Too bad... I use the FM Tuner in my phone all the time as well.

Your Nexus battery isn't going to last 3 days. If this is for disaster situations, just get a regular FM radio or one of the ones where you can power it with a hand crank. Either way we don't NEED to have FM on the N7. It would just be a nice perk.

Most mobile devices utilize a headset as the antenna. I wonder if this could be as simple as porting a FM tuner app from a device that has the same chip set with working FM tuner app?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I was wondering if anyone had any success? I was thinking about integrating a Nexus 7 as a car stereo replacement. Mount it in the dash (trimmed to make my GM Double DIN space a little wider), and route a line out into an EQ, which then would feed into a couple amps. ~$50 for a used 7-11 band EQ, ~$200 for the Nexus = a pretty kick butt deck if you don't need CD. But I would still like FM for traffic, news, games, radio contests, etc....
Last time I checked there need not be an internal FM antenna, most devices with tuners in them actually use the ground lead of your headphones. This is also why radio apps often fail without headphones or powered speakers attached.

Lol, are you serious? I don't know about you but I had my N7 under clocked at 900mHz with WiFi on, bluetooth off, and display all the way down, and I got a week on my battery. A Nexus 7 is a tank when it comes to battery you could EASILY get 3 days off a N7 battery.
You can have FM on your Nexus 7 now
Just get one of those cheapy RTL2832U based USB DVB-T dongles (they can be as low as £5.60 from eBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?LH_BIN=1&_fcid=3&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_clu=2&_nkw=RTL2832U&_sop=2)
Then download SDR Touch - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=marto.androsdr
You don't even need to root your Nexus 7.
You might want to have a powered USB OTG cable in order to make it last for longer, since the tuner and the SDR decoding on the CPU is quite a battery eater. Another downside is that you can't charge your tablet while having something plugged in the USB port.
FM Stereo and even possibly RDS are features that will appear in SDR Touch soon enough
An added bonus is that you can now also listen to police frequencies or analogue TV sound while you drive as well

Newer devices have advances that play well with the newer OS systems that are available so in my view retro versions may not work as well with some of the more advanced designs in the device thingy.
That said I feel the volume is plenty loud and in fact sounds really good. This is without a doubt the best 7" tablet available at this time. The Nexus 10 is the best 10" tablet available at this time, yes better than the apple products. The audio is better and the screens are better and you can set it up as you please a more mature attitude from the manufacturer if you will. Less hand holding, less paternalistic access to your device.
I bought mine at Office Max with the 20% discount, I felt that the price was almost unbelievable and was surprised when they had some left in stock.
I would like more memory 64GB would be nice but I rooted it and use stick mount to run videos and move files.

Hi:
You might want to try these JBL Bluetooth speakers--they are loud:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009AYLDSU/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
As for Korean apps, you might try backing up the apk files and installing them. I know that Google says many of my Chinese apps are incompatible but they all work. Worth a try.
Let us know if you find a work around with bluetooth headphones, apps or anything else that works. It's going to be a rocky road with Bluetooth and 4.3. Many Bluetooth keyboards and some headphones don't work with 4.3. I'm reluctant to order anything Bluetooth without confirmation from others that it works with 4.3
I ordered some LG Bluetooth headphones in June. They worked with the Nexus 7 2012 but only played 1/4 volume on my Galaxy S3 so I returned them.
Keep us posted.
Tom
My sound on the headphones is good/decent. At about 1/2 volume is comfortable to me.
I'm not much of an audiophile so I don't know how impedance effects the volume. It's not extremely loud at max volume, though. I'd probably still be able to hear my music while on the lawn mower or on my motorbike but not sure about a jet plane ^^
Speakers at max volume is fine for a quiet room, but outside it probably won't be very loud.
Hope this helped some.

Thank you for your valueable opinion.
To me, I'm very satisfied with another features and there was no intend to diminish Google or Nexus.
And I'm very proud of having brand-new nexus which have the sharpest screen among the world.
What I want to say is Nexus 7's audio quality is quite good but volume is low, lower than how I expected.
Within my experience, commonly, tablets usually make more powerful sound than phone but my Nexus 7 doesn't.
It seems to have simmilar power with phones. I just feel sad about that.

Thank you for attention.
Bluetooth is great and easy protocol for sharing small files or connect simple devices, but it is not so good for audio.
Nexus 7 doesn't support apt-x, so bluetooth will impair Nexus 7's quite good quality sound.
At this time I have no bluetooth device so I cannnot find which one works, which one doesn't.

In fact I doubted my Nexus is a normal or not.
Thanks, thanks again.
Speakers are really loud. Comparable to my sons Samsung Tab and much much louder then the first gen.
As for apps, just because some apps haven't been given the green flag for 4.3 doesn't mean I won't work. I've sideloaded tons of apps that work fine.
Nothing really different between 4.3 and 4.2 cosmetically. You shouldnt want to downgrade just because a few devs haven't updated yet.

My N7 is sooo quiet, both headphones and speakers.
Low volume really makes me disappointed.

You would have to find a ROM that boost the volume. Just going to 4.2.2 wont increase your volume. I've been playing around with some stuff to boost volume and hopefully will have a mod out soon for it
But player is right...the diff between 4.2 and 4.3 are min. They did make a lot of battery saving tweaks, BT stack tweaks and other hardware tweaks but its more hardware related then os related

Audi A4 Android unit feedback

Hello guys im creating this topic in order to find out more about this particular unit, ive already been searching the forum but i cant seem to find opinions on this unit.
Im thinking in buying this one instead of rns-e (original audi) because not only it is cheaper, but it also offers a lot more options since its an android unit. altough its a chinese unit and thats kinda what makes me get one foot behind this buy.. Is there anyone that has the same unit? or same hardware/software that could give me some positive/negative feedbacks?
The unit its this one.

Quadcore 1.6
1024x screen
1gb ram

Thanks in advance for your feedback mate.
Can you tell me if the screen is good against the sun light, even on full brightness? Can you actually read things there while theres light in it?
How about the sound quality? Bass?
Thanks!!!
Hi @Ezreal,
I have that one (manufacturer KGL) installed in my Exeo and it works pretty well, only thing I am missing is the radio station/song names and well, of course the navigation instructions in the FIS/DIS screen that you can get only with the RNS-E...
Everything is working fine and would recommend that 100%, although I think I remember the original radio sound better. But that was over 1 year ago when I had that.

Well thats my fear too, i know that the rns would sound a lot better than this one, but well its expensive, and old, its not even touchscreen, although its OEM and wont have problems with GPS/Sound quality..
Do you recomend giving like 360€ for a chinese radio?
RNS its like 550€ +.......
Depends on your needs... If you want to have your car full OEM, then for such a difference go for a RNS-E, but if you want to have all the possibilities that give you android, then China radio... You can install tomtom + all the apps from android for instance and is more customizable...
If you use the gps a lot, I would decide the China radio, if it is only to have MP3 + basic gps functionality + full integration then go for the original one. Your decision

The thing is. I would like to have a radio that could reproduce videos like concerts and stuff, and many more stuff.
The RNS wont read video files.. but has a really nice sound quality, which i dont know if the chinese radio has since its not OEM.
I have a radio 1 din on my A4 and has a really nice sound quality, and bass etc. Im afraid i will lose that quality if i go chinese radio and not OEM.. What do you think?

Then go for the Chinese one. RNS-E will not give you out of the box what you are willing to play.
Sound quality in the Chinese one I think can be improved via de equalizer just adjusting manually the values, but didn't tried yet several combinations. Anyway it is not bad quality sound not to choose that one because one because of that, but I think it is little bit below the standard radio. I may be wrong as it is just my point of view.

Ok i see, i never heard a chinese one playing thats why im questioning..
But how about gps for instance? Does it work well? Crashes? Bugs?
Video must be awesome to play it at night for the passengers and stuff...
Everything is working flawlessly, I am pretty happy with it, I have Malaysk rom and improves the device a lot.
Regarding music sound, I use the app "bass eq" and really notice the difference for better
Try Viper4Android!
Hi, I'm looking at getting one of these for my Audi A2. Currently the only option for the A2 is to purchase A4 RNS-E and modify it to fit the dash of the A2.
The question I have, which relates to your units, is that the Eirisn ES2028A states a resolution of 1024x600, and the pumpkin 11-C1220-UK-A states a resolution of 800x480.
Can anyone confirm if the Erisin does actually have a higher resolution screen, as I was on the understanding that they are all made by the same company (HuiFei), then distributed by different resellers (Pumpkin, Erisin, Eonon, Joying, etc).
Any help would be appreciated.

Well according to ebay, pumpkin is 800x, I think the others are all 1024x, but cant confirm 100%
Thank you for the quick reply.
Is it worth going for the higher resolution screen?
I've seen more info about Pumpkin versions than Erisin, so wasn't sure if it was worth going for the lower resolution screen and getting a possibly more robust headunit.
I'll keep an eye on the Erisin units then, unless the others update their screens.

Well i dont think its a huge diference between resolutions since the screen is only 7"..
If it was a TV i would go for higher resolution, but again, i can be wrong because i never saw both standing near me so i could test it.. I would wait for experts to come and take our doubts out..
But the price its kinda the same.. the 800 one its the same (sometimes bigger) than the 1024.. according to ebay..

In my A3, I have had to fade the sound mostly to the back and then crank up the volume a bit. With the addition of Viper4Android app, I have been able to make a pretty good sound stage... but the original Audi Concert audio system still sounded better IMO.

Yeah that's what I've done up to now, but the volume is turned up to 3/4 or higher now.. May just run new wires to the front door speakers and rear speakers, and do away with the factory amp.

For sure, it's nice to have another Audi on here with the same issues... my volume level is constantly up to about half (15) just to hear anything, then up to like 25 with the windows down and rolling.
Viper4Android installed, with the stock firmware EQ's basically all the way up and the "loud" setting on, has made a significant difference. I'm not sure why V4A says you don't have root... but I would reinstall it right after doing the root password and adb password in the system settings. I have constant root on the Malaysk ROM, so I am not sure.
I am also thinking about hitting up the guys on this website... http://enfigcarstereo.com/audi_radio_installation.html . They have all sorts of aftermarket gadgets for our Audi's that help overcome aftermarket stereo issues. I am looking at the "Enfig RWH-AUD2-HILO" as a possible solution for the low audio/factory amp problem.

Hey there.
Today I just wanted to buy an Ownice HU.
But then I found this XTRONS running Android 8.0 with a octa core and 4GB RAM.
Do you guys think it is worth a try or should i rather buy the Ownice?
Thanks for every answer

I can't say anything about Ownice but the Xtrons is definitely worth its money. I have had two Erisin's and a Pumpkin but the Xtrons is my first HU which is working without any issues.
The only thing with Android 8 is that it came out a few weeks ago so it could be still a little bit buggy.
Hello
Yes, on paper it seems perfect, I just have a doubt about the quality of the product, knowing that the audience shines by its absence.
I hope that the conflicts Wifi / Bluetooth are not identical to TB706APL, without reliable internet connection, this new product is useless.
I'm curious about the xtrons also. I was going to buy a joying but saw the xtrons has 4gb of ram. I have both a 2gb and 4gb tablet with similar cpu's, and the 4gb tablet is far faster and more stable than the other one.
I installed the 10.1 version in my truck on Saturday. The model TE103P. So far I am very happy with it. I just need to figure how to get my Bluetooth ODBII adapter working.
The performance so far is impressive. It turns on extremely fast and I like the UI for now. Compared to the Joying I had before, the performance seems better.

I just ordered the xtrons te706pl which shows px5 with 4gb ram and android 8.0. I got it off Amazon for $269.99 with free shipping. I was going to go with joying as it's seems to be the most popular company but 4gb vs 2gb is just to good to pass up. I have 2 tablets with the same Cpu, one has 2gb and the other is a 4gb. The 4gb is so much faster and more stable. 4gb just gives the tablet an easier time it seems.

Do you have any info, about what kind of amplifier Xtrons uses?
Written info is allover the place. Dasaita updated their hardware from TDA7851L to TDA7850, which is supposed to be better, but in their presentation graphics is still written TDA7851L. Since hardware between head units is practically the same, I assume XTRONS might use newer amplifier chip as well...Does anyone have a clue?
Which chipset us it actually? Looks nice, I'm thinking about replacement of a joying with 1 gb and kit Kat which has a really slow startup.

It's using the Rockchip octacore PX5 A 53 architecture 64 bit cpu and 4 gb DDR3 kingston memory.
It is also far way better than the Alwinne T8 which uses a A 7 architecture.

hello, I want to ask.. how good sound this new device?
because, I have read that sound sucks by older devices (joying, dasaita...)
Ive just got mine xtrons te706pl installed 3 days ago and it's doing great. The only problem I've had is getting logged out of spotify overnight. The install was a pain but I have a factory infinity system with amp. Overall I'm happy with the unit. It's pretty snappy and quick.
Hows the sound quality, any hissing sounds?
Sounds great but I already have a factory amp. But I think it sounds better than the factory stereo. I can't figure out how to root it though. Kingoroot doesn't work then I realized it's android 8.0 and might not be root able by it yet.
I was looking at this unit as well, does it have pre outs for front, rear, and sub? My current unit has a huge drop off in sound quality from youtube to pandora. I've asked about it and not found out if this is a common issue or not in the android units, but that is something that is a big turn off for me. I'm hoping the newer units have this fixed. also any quirks or anything else you've noticed about the unit? so far this one is on the top of my list of what i'll be purchasing next.
Hello
With a few days of use, what is your feedback experience.
Do you test the reliability of 3G or 4G internet connection, are there any cuts like on old units built with the PX5 card?
Is there still the bug that cuts the internet connection at each call reception due to a conflict between bluetooth and wifi?
Is there still an abominable echo during a phone conversation with the correspondent with bluetooth?
I read that it is possible to have two open applications with screen sharing, Waze example displayed on a half screen is it legible, street names ect ..
Thank you for your answers and sorry for the syntax because I use Google translation
cordially
I use my phone as a hotspot for my internet do I can't comment on 3g/4g. I did notice a horrible sound while im talking to someone though. It was a loud screeching noise throughout the call. I had no problem with either wifi or Bluetooth cutting out. I haven't tried to use split screen yet but I will and get back to you. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase. It works very well.

The sound quality is so much better than the stock unit. The EQ does an amazing job of bringing out the sound. I haven't notice any difference in YouTube or spotify. I don't use pandora. One quirk is I had a horrible squeaking noise when I had a phone call. I haven't looked into that yet. The other is I can't figure out where the developer options are. I've went to about in settings and hit the model 7 times. The unit says options activated but still can't find it. I wanted to root the device but haven't been able to.
