Moving away from Galaxy Nexus. Recommendations? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So heres the thing. My father lives in Pakistan. I came to Pakistan from England for my summer holidays and I was thinking of gifting my Galaxy Nexus (running JB) to my father as he really needs a good, capable business phone. Hes not particularly happy using his combo of the Nokia E5, the galaxy tab and Xperia X10.
So I was wondering what i should get next. I was initially planning to wait for Nokia's latest offering and the new iPhone. I'm not particularly uptight about the OS I use, as long as I am happy with the phone. With the Galaxy Nexus, I was extremely happy with its performance, and i cannot for the life of me live with a phone with a screen less than 4.3 inches anymore (its spoilt me). But Galaxy S3 or the One X just don't look as big of an upgrade compared to the Galaxy Nexus.
And I'm not too hard on apps either. Kik, Fifa 12, and Flipboard are the only ones i use.
Would it be wise for me to get WP8? Its not that android hasnt kept me happy, but WP8 has me really intrigued, what with the idea of Pureview integrated into an ecosystem thats useable. And are there any unique phones on the market right now? Other than the obvious heavyweights.
Any help would be really really appreciated. :cyclops:
And sorry if Iv made any mistakes. This is the first thread I'm posting here(mostly because most answers are already there). The community is awesome.

I would go for the S3,since it's the best out there for the moment.
I have never been a fan of Windows on cellphones (guess I'm disappointed by the old WM on the old phones).
As for iPhony... I boycott them simply because they are a big corporation with evil business practices.
Swiftkey'ed on my CM9 Galaxy Nexus

Hey man!
Thats a nice thing to do for your dad, its hard to beat a Gnex atm, and having played about with my friends HTC one and s3, i still prefer my Gnex and the softkeys, i cant imagine an actual button on the front of my phone!
WP8 looks good to me too, but Jellybean is a new level of smooth, and Gnex's are getting the OTA already, so maybe just get another one? lol the new iphone and possibly a new nexus are planned for the fourth quarter, so if you could wait im sure they would be equally awesome (although coming from an iPhone to the Gnex I don't wanna go back lol maybe ios6 is different though, their making a lot of noise about it anyways). out of the HTC and s3, the HTC was nicer to use and more fluid, the touchwiz on the s3 really got on my nerves, and im sure it bogs the phone down (still superfast though). but sense on the htc was really intuitive. but thats just my opinion. im sure a custom rom on the s3 would sway my opinion though the nexus is just great and your right, this community is awesome. the asus padphones pretty unique, but its something u either like or hate. or dont know what to think of like me
maybe go to a few phone stores and test the phones on offer, some unusual suspects might catch your eye :fingers-crossed:
id say stick with andriod but at the end of the day, its up to you!

you might want to try the lumia 900. I've actually used it for a while (more liek a couple of hours) and i really felt that it was something i could use. Plus it felt so good in my hands. And yes i do understand why some people would not like the iphone.
But i really do not see myself getting the S3. I'll be really honest, it feels cheap. The One X looks and feels better. But as I said none of these two phones offers anything quite different from the galaxy nexus. Why pay 100 quid more for very incremental differences in user experience. The galaxy nexus right now is a much better package for the amount of money you pay. But I want something different.

HAHA! I was thinking the same thing! and the same can be said about Microsoft IMO.

You have contradictions in your thoughts... though you say s3 or one x will be expensive and g nexus is best bet, you say you want something different.

I know right. The keys on the galaxy nexus are brilliant.
The thing is, windows phone has really got my eye right now. I mean someone was talking about it having directX support and that porting games form windows 8 would be quite easy for developers. If something along those lines could happen, it could change the mobile gaming landscape. But yes i do realise how right now its more a fight between the One X and the S3. I still dont fancy these two phones. Maybe an android offering in the future might get me, but I just cant buy a device i dont love. You know. Like with the Galaxy nexus, it was love at first sight. The curve at the back and the whole feel of the damn thing lol. Loved the experience. I want something of that sort with my next device lol.

Getting win phone 7 before win phone 8 which is near corner is stupid
Getting iPhone 4s now when new 4" iPhone cones in few months is stupid.
Getting new iPhone than on same old OS would be even more stupid.
LOL.

I dont say theyre expensive. I just think theyre not different enough from a Gnex to be at their price points. The Gnex is really good value for money is what i meant. And I still think that stock Jelly Bean offers a better experience than touchwiz or Sense. Wp8 on the other hand might rival the whole UX thing.

I thought the same about the s3, but the screens great and it is pretty solid (watched it drop from a desk onto a hard floor, once we took a breath and checked it was ok) touchwiz was the killer but that can be fixed with a custom rom.
The lumia 900 wont be getting WP8 as far as i know, so if something different is what your after, maybe waiting for the new one is a good idea.
and atifsh, hes already had a nexus and said the One X and S3 arent a big leap ahead of it. And he fancies something different now, wheres the contradictions dude? TROLL.

Lol. That's why I'll probably wait for WP8. I dunno about the iPhone. The only reason anyone would get the iPhone over the S3, One X or Gnex is its gaming prowess. I mean the interface is kind of..well crap. but with a 4.7 inch screen, gaming on the iphone could really be something. I know that will never happen but I mean. Hoping for something of that sort. Browsing on a tiny 3.5 inch screen is a pain in any case.
Btw i do know that gaming on android doesnt suck. But i just feel we dont get developers giving it the same amount of love as the iOS equivalents. Wouldnt you agree. FIFA12 on iOS is comparable to the 3ds version. But the same version on android feels like a half hearted effort and its even costlier.

Do you think with a clean JB ROM, I could get noticeably better performance out of the S3? Compared to the GNex that is? And I have seen the S3 screen. It doesnt have this sort of banding that I'v got on my GNex but the banding has never bothered me at all. Otherwise the screens feel identical to my eyes.

Yeah Ive heard about that too, and your right it could change everything! but windows has failed royally in the past, i guess ill believe it when i see it!
aw dude I know, I was so close to going with an s2, the guy at O2 was pushing but I tried the nexus and knew i wanted it! gonna keep it until a new nexus or something that catches my eye like the Gnex did to start with haha Happy Hunting anyway and be patient if you can, Im sure there's some cracking phones on the way.
and as for gaming, Androids starting to get the attention it deserves. EA and Gameloft have some great games already and more are on the way. i was super impressed with the dark knight rises game from gameloft, people have been having problems with it but it runs like a dream for me and its ambitious. things can only get better!

I cant say for certain as my friend wont do it lol despite my peer pressure. but the touchwiz is bloaty and it cant harm anything to get rid of it. compared to the Gnex? it depends, hardware wise theoretically it should, but there are rom and kernel combos on the Gnex that make it lightning so i'll be honest and say the difference probably wont be huge. U cant get much faster than lightening fast haha maybe someone in the s3 forum has an answer to that who previously had a Gnex.

Yes. I might wait til the new nexus devices come out. Rumors about 3 or 4 of them coming out at the same time are interesting as well.
And yes I'll be keeping my eye out for all those devices from Japan as well. Some of the androids there are really something (design wise).
And yes i know. Gaming on these 4.5+ inch screens is really what portable gaming will be after a couple of years. With the amount effort most devs are putting into mobile gaming, we might see the 3ds and vita fizzling out.
I will also be looking around in the S3 forums. I think it really wont be that much of a difference. Your'e right Gnex really is quick. Dunno how much quicker you can get lol.

Well, you know for sure you like the gnex, so why not just get another one? When the new Nexus comes out you can take a look at it and maybe sell the gnex. As for the S3, it has significantly better hardware... screen, camera, processor etc... but it doesn't have the Nexus software advantages.

Can't argue on games on iPhone vs android cause I'm not a gamer.
But I would differ on this that s3 or even one x doesn't have more to it than nexus.
Yes nexus gets OS updates fast but when both phones are on same level of OS, which they will in month or so, it will be different.
Example the leaked new build of one x is notably faster than previous, everyone noted that who uses it. And that's 4.04.
Also on s3 you put apex, nova and you get stock look.
Talking about quad s3 here, US users may don't agree.

What troll? Where's the troll?
He likes nexus true
He likes but wont buy S3 or One X for his reasons, which are only good phones apart nexus in my opinion at the moment.
He likes win phone 8 and want to buy when it comes... and than there's iPhone somewhere in between.

Well the screen of my previous Nexus look better than my S3 so it depends on each device and the batch it came from. My Nexus screen didn't have banding problems. I like the higher dpi too.
S3 has a much more powerful quadcore GPU so its one of the best phone for gaming now. Playing psx games it was over 500fps. And the camera is excellent, but I don't think its any better than the S2 or Note.
I trading my S3 to go back to the Nexus, made a big mistake buying any phone but a Nexus. Now that I realized that fact, my phone hobby will become more affordable, especially with Google pricing.

i don't like my gnex
My gnex was dropping the signal all the time.
My wife's Droid x has a much better signal reception. My gnex is much faster on the wifi. I got Verizon to send me a replacement and the second one has same problem. But the second one has powered down on me a couple of times now for no reason. The phone was in a case on my side when it happened the few times that it did. I am frustrated now. Verizon said we could talk about a different model
But what do you replace this with. What is most bug free without losing ground?

You sound like you're into gaming, so right off the bat I'd recommend waiting for the Note II. It sounds like samsung will pack in a lot of power, and once you go bigger you generally can't go back.
Waiting (a bit longer) for the next Nexus is also another possibility. Hopefully it'll come with an OMAP 5 or another A15 chipset. (As a strong soft-key advocate, it's also not likely I could get anything besides a Nexus anytime soon either.)
While I too find WP intriguing, I cannot in good conscience recommend it or iOS due to the limitations they built into the platform. I'm not even talking about limited custom modding (though that's also a big deal to me), but even more basic limitations: no custom launcher, no custom keyboard (no swiftkey or swipe? They must really think their stuff is the end-all-be-all or something), no file manager, no sideloading of apps. Some of this might be mitigated by jailbreaking, but only at a stability cost.
This problem is even worse in WP due to its further limitations; not even WP8, to my knowledge, will allow custom backgrounds in its launcher - my Launcher 7 is practically more advanced than their bloody default start screen. Still, if you do decide on WP, you should definitely wait until the 8 devices come out, or you'd just be buying into a dead end.
Right now the S3 or One X are the obvious choices, but I would recommend waiting. It feels like better stuff is right around the corner (whether the Note, Nexus, or One X+). Unfortunately, I don't think England has the Nexus for $350 deal, or I would definitely recommend that for your father.

If you have a Galaxy S2 (i9100) don't bother with the Galaxy Nexus

I sold my GS2 to get the GN and I'm not too happy with my choice.
No mass storage mode is a killer for me, now I can't transfer my media easily.
The camera is not in anyway better. In this case, more mega pixels does equate to better pictures.
No physical home button... oh how I miss it.
The lack of a microSD card slot is the finishing blow for me!
I loved my GS2, I wish I never sold it! ICS Is coming to the GS2 anyways.
Damned my gadget obsession!
Just my 2 cents.
Cool story bro.
I invented cyberspace. You're trespassing.
didn't you know that GN doesn't have microSD slot, phisical/sensor buttons and have 5mp camera?
if you didn't know this before buying you must be not very clever man or you really suffering from some kind of obsession.

EXACTLY. All of these complaints (except camera, I guess that's subjective) were known before purchasing lol.
I have no idea why you would ever swap a Galaxy SII for the Galaxy Nexus. Especially that it has pretty much been confirmed that it's getting ICS. In fact, even to this day I would personally prefer the SII if I could get one. Unfortunately, Verizon thought it "wouldn't compete with the iPhone 4S enough" and decided to pass it up for the G-Nex. So I'm kinda stuck now. Not going to lie, I'm disappointed with this phone's hardware specs. Most of the other issues are due to ICS not being fully supported yet so I'll have to wait.
The only thing that is worth it is the screen.
Indeed I have an obsession, I want the latest and greatest.
Unfortunetly, this is not the greatest.
There's too much hype in the gadget world regarding the GN and I fell for it.
You people are so defensive. The OPs commentaries are perfectly valid, especially coming from his FIRST HAND experience.
Being bloat and skin free have to count for something

Always do your research before spending your money. It's not worth the loss later on as I'm sure you understand now.
On one hand I really want the Galaxy Nexus, with it being the latest phone on the market and all the hype behind it, but reading posts from people like the OP just make me think if it's really worth it and should I just spend less money to get a SGS II instead....
It's going to sell, an average consumer just wants a sleek, cool and overhyped phone. Not a geek gadget, no offence.

If you have to think twice about using a pure Nexus device, then it isn't really meant for you.
I will only recommend the Galaxy Nexus to people new to Android, people who started off using Nexus devices and developers.
People coming from manufacturer android phones with pre-installed skins like HTC sense and Touch Wiz should probably stay away if they have no idea what stock Android is all about or if they are unwilling to understand stock Android.
I have a galaxy S2 right now....
the reason I'm moving to Galaxy nexus is because I want the same screen i had on the iphone 4. That alone would justify this and I like the fact that it all black in the front. Super sleek. Super clean.
The galaxy s2 has a better process, camera and all the extras. just like now the Galaxy S was a better than the Nexus S. ICS will come to the Galaxy S2 but it will take time and probably won't be out until march or april. If thats the case, I would rather downgrade my phone just to have to latest and greatests.
My friend has a epic 4g from sprint USA (galaxy S) they just got their gingerbread. They JUST GOT IT. if that happens to my galaxy s2 then i would rather move to a new phone. This fragmentation is really annoying.
does that mean you will sell ur GN OP lol??? i'll take it lmfao

Save yourself some money, get the European i9100 (GS2). It's more powerful and you will be far more pleased.
With the money you save, hold on to it for a few months and guaranteed, a much better phone will come out.

It's exactly that, a downgrade.
All the people posting about pure Google etc.... does it really matter? I was using stock android (well, Cyanogen) on my GS2 but from FIRST HAND experience it was not worth the move.
P.s, not going to sell it (yet) you never know, there maybe a way to get mass storage working or at least transfer files over.

I currently have a GS2 and will be changing to the GN when it releases here in the States (on VZW). Why? 720p screen, software buttons, and as close to a pure device as one can get anymore. The cons of the device really don't bother me, so I'll be more than happy with the Nexus.

720p screen - Valid point but not worth it if you have to sacrifice downgrades in other major hardware (CPU/GPU/Camera/etc...)
Software buttons - This is really considered an upgrade to you?
Pure Device - Software is port-able and moddable, this is a very moot point and I think is vastly overrated
My question is more of how you have a SII on Verizon right now? (unless you're planning to switch to Verizon now just to get the GN in which I have no comment then)

I've just HUP'd to a Galaxy Nexus, pretty excited to get it in the mail this week. I'm coming from an iPhone 4s.. I've been a die hard Apple fan but I did try some gingerbread phones before and didn't mind it, just had lots of touch screen issues/texting issues (timestamps) and found it to be a hassle.
Anyone else move from an iPhone 4s and want to share an opinion?

Thanks.
I think my main issue though was the grid of icons, using iOS for so long I just started to absolutely HATE it. When they included Notification Center I was happy, but I realized I never even used it like I did when I had my Infuse, because it didn't feel like a real part of the OS... just a place to go to clear notifications, not SEE them and interact with them.
It is honestly the best phone I have ever seen, everything is great on it. The quality and size of the phone makes the iPhone look like a toy in my opinion. Also ICS gives Android the polish that's its needed in looks and performance.

FYI you really should wait a week when their new upgrade policy goes into effect which means you actually pay what you owe not an over inflated amount when you upgrade
And i'm going from a iP4 to a Nexus as soon as i find a best buy with one in stock
I'm considering getting the Galaxy Nexus as well. I just sold my iPhone4. I hardly ever used it as a phone. Just for music and to play Angry Birds. Sooooo happy I sold my iPhone4! My main device is BlackBerry, but I have 2 lines. I have the HTC Amaze on my second line now. I love the Amaze but it's too heavy for me to carry both devices. There's only so many purses a girl could buy! I was messing around with the Galaxy Nexus this weekend and it's a pretty sleek device. I thought about getting the Samsung Galaxy SII because of the Exynos CPU, but I need a notification led light. BlackBerry spoiled me in that department. Besides the Galaxy Nexus, any other device I should consider? I need something that is light, thin and fast.

If your coming from an iPhone 4/4s like myself, Android is really the only way to go. Your other options would be Windows Phone 7 (in Canada we have lame WP7 devices and it's microsoft lol) or Blackberry with RIM falling apart.

I'm thinking of using the HUP to trial run the Nexus till I get paid, then return it and buy it outright without extending my contract so I should be okay.
I will admit though, I'm very excited to use this device, especially coming from my 4S.

I guess you didn't fully read my post. My main device is a BlackBerry and that won't change anytime soon. I have the HTC Amaze on my second line but it's a heavy device so I'm looking for a thinner, lighter Android. I only used the iPhone4 as a phone for maybe a month and that was last summer. I don't care for the iPhone. No offense to iPhone users. It does nothing for me. I agree the WP7 are lame in Canada. I think Telus is picking up the Nokia Lumia 800. I love Nokia, but not sure about WP7 though.

I had the HTC EVO 3D 3 times....yes 3 times, LOL, the battery door drove me nuts. But it wasn't just that, it was laggy and whenever I talked on the phone, everyone said I sound like I'm talking through a tunnel. The Amaze is AMAZING! It's A LOT better than the EVO 3D. The Amaze is faster, call quality is much better, build quality more solid, screen looks better even though they both have the same res. and the speaker is much louder. The speaker on the EVO 3D was low and tin like. Overall I am very happy with the Amaze.
Now I just need a 2nd Android.
has anyone been able to get mms working? I tried adding an mms apn I found online but no luck.. I've also had a few text messages fail to go through.

I have to carry 2 devices with me now and the Amaze is too heavy in my purse. The Galaxy Nexus is much lighter and also thinner. It makes a difference.
For the sake of science, please check what baseband your phone has and if it exists already available in the radio-thread.

Convince me why i shouldnt have buyers remorse! :/

Hey guys, i just order a pair of GNs for myself and so, though im now having buyers remorse.
I love the look of the nexus, though i just feel as i mad a bad decision and should of gone with the Note, S2, htc one S, or even the X.
for one, it will most likely have the best deveolper support and nothing rivals vanilla ics

Oh well, in that case, no.
My wife loves hers.
That said there is always remorse in buying a 5 month old device. It is a dinosaur in tech terms; even if the software is cutting edge.
I would say take it back and get the phone you want.
The GN is a great device. The developer support is great if you wish to try all kinds of amazing ROMS. But even if you don't, the GN is a great stock. I love not having to hack my device to remove all the bloat. Just stock ICS. But as someone else said, its about 5 months old. Something to remember. Devices will always come out. But I am not sure if I would buy it today. Not with the HTC One X out (import). And the Galaxy S 3 is more than likely going to be a device worth upgrading for. In short, its up to you.

I came from the sgs2 and I can honestly say this phone is far superior. I havent tried the one s yet so I cant speak for that.

I for one came from the MyTouch 4G slide, and couldn't he happier.
The developer support on that phone is pretty much dead, and I actually got used to have no physical keyboard really fast.
This phone is fast, gorgeous, and its so relieving not having to worry about crap like Sense, or Blur from my previous phone the Motorola Cliq.
Sense 4.0 looks nice, but vanilla ICS is so much more beautiful without the extra bloat.
As for the hardware, I want a phone that can do everything a phone should, with a bit of extra fun, and this does just that.
Running games at ~50FPS is great, I don't see why I need a quad core phone to have them run at ~60FPS, at the risk of more battery consumption for little significant gain. There is no future proofing since a year down the line you will switch again; and by that time, your phone will still be just as powerful.
Hell, the G1 is still a great phone if you use it as one.

sounds like you dont know what you want and will probably feel the same with any of those phones.
Early May could very well be the announcement of the Galaxy S XXX super duper HD and I'd still not care. If it's not a GSM Nexus, it's not for me, because of the myriad of reasons already covered in this forum.

Spec wise, the HTC One X kinda beats the Nexus but isn't as fast in real use because of Sense 4.0. The only phone to beat the Nexus will be the Galaxy S3, but that usually will become the basis for the next Nexus anyway, so you just have to choose which cycle to get on, the Nexus Cycle or the Galaxy S Cycle. Stock Google and latest Firmware make the Nexus Cycle a no-brainer. I just hope you got a deal on the Nexus(s) because they are dirt cheap now (~$450)
I enjoy AOSP and the ease of modding with this device. Sure there might be other devices coming out w/ newer tech, but I don't think I can stand skins anymore. Even de-sensed and de-blurred don't cut it anymore.
I always get buyers remorse so can't really help you there. All I can say is that I wish i'd waited for SGS3 because if it's anything like the SGS2, which blows the nexus out of the water in every way but the screen, then I will be having a very very bad case of buyers remorse on 3rd May lol.
As for helping with your buyers remorse, if you like the look and feel of the phone, and can live with some minor flaws like the odd bit of lag, you will be ok with this phone.

$429 NIB + 2 years warranty shipped(each), so it was a pretty good deal.
I like what you're saying and i think that will be my plan of attack and just upgrade every nexus release, even if i had waited for the GS3 i wouldn't of been able to pick 2 of them up, I'm guessing they are going to be $800-$900.
Well thanks guys i feel a little better, im using a desire Z at the moment so it should be a big leap.

I don't think you'll have remorse. You're getting a great package, great price and updating to 4.0.4 will be awesome. And if you're a tinkerer it can only get better. Just think, a lot of us paid over $700 and don't regret it at all, even with the small problems we've had. And if you're already on xda, free tech support. Notice I said tech support and not noob support.

+1. I've had the Desire and Desire HD before getting the GN and I must say every phone I've come across with Sense on it has been so poorly coded that it's had FPS issues just swiping from homescreen to homescreen.
The HTC One without Sense will best the GN hands down when stripped of Sense but I can't help but think (despite not having used one) that it will still struggle to run at a fluid ~59fps with Sense on it.
The Galaxy Nexus like all Nexus phones is a reference phone, Android as Google intended without all the extra manufacturers add to it (ie Sense, Touchwiz, Motoblur, etc.) which some people may actually like. If you like Sense then a HTC One might be the way to go for you.
My biggest thing with Android phones is developer support. I personally am coming from a HTC Thunderbolt, which at the time was great, a ton of developers, ROMS, MODS....life was nice. Then, the Nexus came out, and within a month about 75% of the developers had jumped ship, updates were slow, and it just wasn't fun anymore.
So that said here is my list of things I look for when buying a new phone
1. Good Developer Support (Pretty much guaranteed for Nexus phones)
2. Style, Build, and Accessories (I would say HTC usually takes this, but Sammy is catching up)
3. Newness of Technology (You don't want a phone that is still using 2 year old tech. However, the newest tech is not the best bet either, since this creates issues with developers being able to take advantage of the latest and greatest in their ROMS. The thunderbolt was a perfect example, it was the first with 4G LTE, which was a nightmare for developers to get the ROMS working right. Till this day CM7 is still not an official build on the Thunderbolt.
4. Resale Value - Lets be honest you do not have an Apple Device which gets good resale prices due to its limited lineup. However, Nexus phones often keep better resale then their counterparts just due to the fact it is a Nexus phone. I usually trade up every year, sell the old one with its accessories for about 300 and use it to buy the next one. This allows you to get the latest and greatest every year, for about the same price of an upgrade or cheaper.
I'd buy the GN in a heartbeat at prices now... ~$440 unlocked.
This device feels way more solid than the Galaxy S2 that my SO has.

Anyone else have an iPhone and E4GT?

I'm just curious- I just sold my E4GT for an iPhone 4S- as to what your opinions are! This will be my first iPhone, I've only had android for smartphones (well Win6.1 for a few months). (although the E4GT is still my favorite phone ever).
I know this sounds like a "I'm leaving" thread, but it isn't meant to be. Just wondering what people may like about the iPhone vs. this phone, and what they hate! For me, I'm looking forward to the battery life, and the retina display, but will miss google nav, gtalk, gmail app, the notifications, etc.
If there's anyone who has both these phones, and could give some insight, please chime in.
There's a good chance I'll be back, since I change out phones every 6 months (and I got an iPhone because I've never used that OS before, so I'm curious), but I may try Win7 mobile before coming back to android as well.
On a side note, if everyone is really just hating on this thread, and I was an idiot for creating it and causing drama, I will just close it. Sorry all, was just really curious, not trying to create anything!!
My girlfriend has the iPhone, and she loves it. You'll instantly find that without jailbreak, you really can't customize the phone. For 80% of folks that's fine, very similar to the WinPhone7 experience, but you wouldn't be on XDA if you want to keep your phone stock
I will say that the application quality is better on iOS devices, seems like developers put a little more polish into them.
I'm currently in the same dilemma... Mainly because of apps. A lot of apps on iOS either take too long, or don't get released on Android at all. -Yes we have probably almost the same amount of apps on Android as on iOS, but not quality apps. Besides, for me as a startup app developer, iOS is better for business I was waiting for the SGS III, but was disappointed. Would have gotten the One X, if sprint imo wouldn't have uglyfied it. So now I'm waiting for the new iPhone, and hopefully it won't be an iPhone 4SS. Then I might consider switching too.
PS. see, not hate we can communicate in a mature manner
I think whosdaman (Korey) just came back to the E4GT from an iPhone and he has also had the OG Epic I am sure you can get some feedback from him all around.
I havent had the chance to use one but I put it to most people like this. If you've bought into one system why switch? If you really haven't and you like the other then don't let any stop you from having it your way.

Their battery is about the same for me but the iPhone 4s has battery on sleep mode/ standby but the E4GT has better battery while in use but by the end of the day their battery drainage is about the same. Camera seems better on the E4GT maybe it's just the screen. Seriously though it's whatever floats your boat. You like massive apps, buying accessories and just want a simple phone then stick to the iPhone, for everything else E4GT is better in my opinion I hate the size of the iPhone screen and it gets boring after 2 days.

Honestly, I love the learning process of new phones, which is why I switch so often. I still have not had a Motorola or Apple smartphone ever, so those were next on my list. I went from the Samsung Instinct to HTC Diamond to HTC Hero, to Epic 4G to E4GT, and now iPhone 4S.
I have put a lot of effort into android, but I can always come back. Plus I will admit, that I will probably spend less time on forums in general (still will be on XDA a bit) since you can't customize the iPhone as much. That was another key aspect of getting a phone like the iPhone....I will have more time to study for the GMATs instead of being drawn to all these amazing devs and their work!

I freaking hated jailbreaking the iPhone(on the 3gs days), everything stops working like Cydia when a new update/OS is available then you have to jailbreak all over again and spend so much time bringing everything back, it's one of the few updates I dont ever look forward to because of the hassle. My wife and I both used to have original Evo's and about 6 months ago I went to the e4gt, and she went with the iPhone 4s. We frequently use each others phones and we both have likes and dislikes. Here are some of our big complaints:
Most of these are the obvious *****es that everyone has...
No 4G
Small screen
No back button
No external storage
Your clueless friends act like you finally decided to get a smartphone.
Positives are:
Camera is much better
High quality look and feel. (The brushed aluminum is a nice touch)
Siri is really cool. (I have tried the leaked S voice app, and I don't think we will see anything that comes close to Siri in the next couple of years)
The iOS is very polished. The cliche is true, "it just works"...
Manufacturers of other products (home or mobile audio mainly) gear everything towards iPhone.
I personally wouldn't go to an iPhone, but I like tinkering and customizing. My wife just wants stability, excellent camera, and good battery life. I definitely see the attraction of both devices. They both have their positives and negatives, it just comes down to preference. Have fun!

Yep when you try and jailbreak, that's when you realize it's not as straightforward as you'd like.
I am waiting for the new iPhone as well, as long as it has a larger screen, LTE, and maybe starting at 32gb (I wish!)
Yeah I have both and iPhone is for people who don't do a lot with their phone. Your paying sprint 10 dollars extra and you get slow 3g. And the screen is so small.
But it is a great phone. Maybe if it were bigger and had lte maybe but sprint 3g is horrible. If your on wifi its OK.
Pure ICS only
You will curse the screen for being so tiny on a daily basis.

My sister has an iPhone and I just jailbroke it for her yesterday. It's amazing how you can customize it with Jailbreaking... I made her phone look like the SII haha. But I still prefer Android because you can customize more even compared to jailbroken iPhones, and jailbreaking isn't completely stable. I'd say that custom ROMs on our phone are in general (not like nightly builds, but regular ROMs) are more stable than jailbroken features on iPhones. I personally don't like the shape of the iPhone or the small screen. Siri also isn't anything special IMO because no one ever ends up using it... just something to brag with. Like I seriously haven't met anyone who used Siri on a daily basis for functionality. To be honest, it's faster looking at a weather widget or opening a weather app than telling Siri to get the weather anyways.

How is it a zillion clicks lol. The only one click root for the E4GT I have seen once the app is running, its one click. The auto rooter was never advertised as a one click if thats what you mean. Maybe something else back in the EG30 days but i cam just before EK02 went ota.
I thought about getting an iphone but several things turned me off about it. First the hardware feels dated and screen seems small compared to this phone. Second in order to do anything with the files on the phone you have to use a software interface of some sort. For example you cant just plug into any pc, xfer files then unplug, you need itunes. Finally it just feels like a dumbed down content delivery device to me. Android feels and functions like a computer and I like that. I do understand how the simplicity of iphone would appeal to many but its just not for me. I also like being a bit different and popping down my S2 on the table with all my friends iphones at the restaurant or bar.

My job provided me with an iPhone and I use the E4GT personally.
The iPhone "just works"...but thats it...Its a no thrills phone that just works.
I personally love my E4GT but it takes much tweaking to make it yours.
I will admit. SIRI is awesome but i feel like its just a gimmick for the "Lazy" person who doesn't want to take the few extra steps to do what SIRI does for you.
It is a learning curve but in the end, it really is up to the person and their preference.
I had both, sold the iPhone. I will never own another apple device. The best thing about android is that its open source. That is how things should be. The iPhone was too small, not customizable, and the majority of the apps are paid apps. Also, downloads took FOREVER! I also tried a Galaxy Nexus and sold it this morning. Im sticking with the E4GT until something freaking spectacular pops up. My main things about the E4GT that keep me here: Processor is fast, screen looks fantastic, camera is badass, and the roms are plentiful.
I owned iPhones for years, the biggest deal breaker by far is the tiny screen size. Buy even if it was a larger screen I would never ever be able to go back.
I do see how it is better for average users who just want something that is easy and works out of the box

Is the Galaxy Nexus still good?

Here's the thing: I'm in high school, and love developing. I love the android platform because it's so much more open than, say iOS. I currently have an iPhone 4S, and my mother is going to get a new phone tomorrow. This will be her first smartphone. I know iOS is more user-friendly and Siri would be a great help to her, since she drives a lot but also likes to text/talk to her friends. So what I'm wondering, is should I give my mom my iPhone, and get a Galaxy Nexus? Are they still top of the line devices? I've been longing for android ever since my samsung continuum broke and I was talked into getting this piece of garbage. I know that my mom's interested in smartphones, and I was thinking that my iPhone would probably be the best thing for her instead of an android. Or, should I let her get an android and then keep my iPhone? Thanks for taking the time to read this, I appreciate it.
well has she tried to use your iphone yet? let her try it. and the nexus still seems to be a live and licking device i just bought mine last night and i love it.
if your momo doesnt like the iphone take her in to the store and look at some of the lower end android phones. im not sure what cell provider you have though or i could recommend some to you.
Is the nexus top of the line? Not anymore. Is it a great phone? Most definitely. And it's still a very relevant device. Plenty of development, and will continue for quite some time.

I'm guessing mom's would like the iphone. Give it to her! Then get the phone that Google built. Oh and developed ICS and JB on FTW!

Well, you'd be doing her a disservice but it depends on a lot of things, not the least of which is budget.
My thoughts: if you can get her a "powerful" android (as in, Galaxy Nexus or better, using your judgment and keeping in mind that some newer devices don't quite have the software edge) then do that. But, if it means you have to keep your iPhone.. well, I can't make that decision for you, it depends how much you like her I guess

GN is probably the best bang for the buck at this particular moment, especially if you custom ROM the hell out of it. Plus, it's relatively cheap so good if you're on a budget. (Make sure you take full advantage of its unlocked pentaband and go prepaid, preferably for the $30/month plan, which results in massive savings over time.) That said, it's about a year old and will be succeeded by the next Nexus within a few months.
Well is your mom tech-savy? No? Give her the iPhone. Yes? Buy her the next iPhone, it is just around the block.
Is Gnex top-of-the-line smartphone RIGHT NOW? NOPE. If you want top-of-the-line hardware, GS3 or HTC One X.
Is Gnex still an amazing phone? YUP! Despite the lower specs, Gnex runs smooth and fast.
Should you get it over GS3? I dunno. If you don't mind lower hardware or maybe you're on a budget, Gnex. If you definitely need top-of-the-line hardware, GS3.
My dad got an iphone4 and likes it my mom has had, palm Pre(my old) 3vo, and droid RAZR, and a touchpad cm9.
Now my dad its his first smartphone so iPhone is good for him. Mom on the other hand doesn't like iPhone.
On side note the nexus s(2010) is getting or got android JB. so I would imagine the gnex will get android K&L

I got my mom an iPhone for her birthday. She isn't to into tech but she somewhat knows what she's doing. She loves it mostly for its simplicity. And lucky Me I got my gnex.
