T-mobile No strings rewards - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

So I just got a promotional letter in the mail from T-mobile which says they are rewarding me for being a loyal T-mobile customer. It offers 4 options to choose from including: for $0.99 a month you get a 4G mobile hot spot with a 2gb limit for 6 months, free month service in Jan. 2013, Free data for 6 months (one line only), and $100 back from any smartphone you purchased (by rebate). You can view the options at tmobile.com/nostrings but apparently in order to take advantage of it you have to be "invited". Did anyone else get this? If so, what reward did you choose?

Yea select customers get invited to these things you can't go wrong with either most customers go with what's most valuable for them.

My mom has had T-mobile since voice stream and yea I just signed a 2 year contract so I'm not worried if the fine print says anything about that and from what I read it doesn't even say it. I ended up choosing the free month as my monthly bill but I hope this thread can help people learn about this deal and call t-mobile to try and get it themselves.

It has more to do with other things as well not just tenure guys being with them for a long time is great n they can usually go above and beyond to retain but offers proactive like that are usually taking into account both payment history and credit too. It pays to pay your bill on time is all I gotta say.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2

You had to extend your contract for two years to get that free month right?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy SIII.

I sure hope I receive one, as I pay my monthly bill on time and I have been with T-Mo for over 8 yrs. I would get the free month and use the savings for my daughters back to school shopping.

I'm not sure as I signed a new contract last week so either it came because of that or it came regardless. I read the fine print on the card and online and it doesn't say anything about signing a new contract. Try calling loyalty dept and ask them about it.

I asked because I know someone who was deterred from taking advantage of that because it involved her renewing/extending her contract.

T-mobile NO STRINGS upgrade deal.. get $200 off any phone!! Wohooo upgrade to GS3 time right!
I asked twice 'Are you sure nothing in my plan will change' - 'Nothing in your plan will change' - Great
Total cost $349 and within 6 weeks T-mobile will send you a $200 credit card. Great lets do it.. with tax that's $405
Phone arrives. Works! But.. after 10 years with T-mo..
T-mobile say I need a new data plan for that phone to have features like Wifi hotspot. I argue get the plan $10 more ($30 total!) with $10 off my bill for the next 2 years. But suddenly my unlimited plan now says 'Unlimited - Up to 5 GB full-speed data'
T-mobile say it was always like that... hmmm no strings? Did I just get my data capped?

That's what they offered it to me for.. $349 - $200 = $149
The $200 comes 6 weeks later in the form of a T-mobile credit card you can use to pay your bill or pay for anything really.
Since the law states you pay the tax on the full price I paid $405 -$200 = $205 in the end.

Update..
After filling out the form in the box.. waiting who knows how many weeks for my $200 rebate.
I get a visa card in the mail for $50.
The NO STRINGS deal is a long cruel hallway full of never ending hoops tied with so many $^#&^&# strings it should be puppet show.

Yeah, that is typical for them. They screwed me over like that too - but to make it all better, they gave me a credit for the missing amount - but only if I committed to a new two year agreement on all my lines!

OK I really want the Nexus but I'm not due for an upgrade. You're all smart, help!

Like the title says, I'm not due for an upgrade until next December but I'd really like to dump my current phone for a Nexus... it's just dog-slow, has no support from any Dev communities nor support from Samsung themselves...
With that said I'm wondering if anyone has found a way around having to pay the full $800 to get a new Nexus device. I went in to Best Buy today to see if I could extend my contract by another 2 years but he said the best I could do is to start a Family Plan, move my number to that and add a new line so I'd be paying $130 a month. I don't think so.
It's important that I keep my current plan too since I have unlimited data.
If anyone knows any little life-hacks to getting a new Nexus at $300 or less, let me know!
Oh, I'm on Verizon. So, LTE please!
What phone do you have right now?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk
U could always add a line. Get a hold of an old verizon flip phone that doesn't require data and put the new line on that. This way you always get revolving upgrades too
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Getting an extra is not a bad plan, but the cost adds up eventually. And correct me if I'm wrong, but verizon is not doing the traditional new every two years updates anymore. I think your best plan is to wait until the year and a half marker (I know I get some discount at that point) or buy a phone full retail.

$300 = $540 still $110 below retail.

Nm. Just realized you probably did 10x 12 for a 2 year contract. Yea, that's the thought process I had too. It'll basically be like getting a loan for the phone, without interest

Retail is $650, not $800.
Frankly dude, take it from someone that HATES contracts and doesn't do them, just save up some cash.
What's the ETF on your current device now? Sounds like it might be cheaper to pay the ETF on your current line, and sign a contract for a new line and get the phone for $299.
The problem with getting another line is I'm currently on an individual plan paying about $80 a month.
Moving to a plan that I could add a line would put me at $130 a month... definitely not worth it when I'm already ready to fork over $300 for a phone.
I'm thinking best bet is getting lucky on eBay or Craigslist

Verizon's site says "You may terminate service for any reason within 14 days of activation. If you purchased a wireless device at a promotional price at the time of activation, you must return it within the device return period to avoid being assessed an Early Termination Fee of $175, or $350 if you purchased an Advanced Device" so I'm assuming $350 to terminate.
Not only that but by making a new contract I'd lose my unlimited data, and I use a TON of data.

LOL like the other person said, you better go back and read the fine print. That $250 is a seperate Amazon fee in addition to Verizon's ETF. Basically you just screwed yourself $350 Verizon Fee + $250 Amazon Fee = $600.

So you paid for $600 no tax for your Rezound and are not on contract? That's not too bad. Saved $50 plus tax over getting it from Verizon.
They may hook you up with an early upgrade. I went in ready to pay full retail as my contract was not up until November of next year. The guy asked me why I didn't want to upgrade, not sure why I was able to upgrade but I did.

If you have unlimited data, don't do an ETF since they don't offer unlimited any more. I'm heading out to BB-they told me if i pay full retail I have 30 day return policy. I'll sell my TBolt by that time, and cover the balance with my Xmas bonus.

I almost getting this, since I've called T-mobile Loyalty Department with no luck, they wont give me any more discount or credit, I think it's because Im eligible for phone upgrade, but my account still on contract until next year.
My current data plan is $20 per month (Im not sure what's the cap throttle limit, since I never use that much anyway), but with Costco, they forced me to choose new data plan for $35 Premium 5GB, that what makes me thinking, I got the phone $100 cheaper but monthly data plan would be more expensive

All Samsung phones free this weekend?

So, I saw the ad for this weekend in chicagoland; free Samsung phones with new service..
After calling 4 stores to confirm that the Gnote2 was included, I have gotten different answers from the stores I called.
Some say it does NOT include the Gnote2, others said it did.
does anyone know for sure if it includes the gnote 2?
thanks!
Check here for some additional info:

No one knows for sure until the promotion starts, but supposedly the Note 2 will be available for a reduced price -- not free.
i asked my friend who works for tmobile as a sales rep and he said note 2 is not included but will be on sale.

its hard to figure out what the note will actually cost; its once price for the "classic" plan, and another price for the "value" plan..
I guess I should wait until Friday and go into a store to see for sure..
not gonna lie. if it ends up being free or like a 100 bucks after upgrade, im gonna burn my tmobile store down. being a first adopter sucks. lol
yeah, I'm usually the one on the bad end of the stick too...trying to avoid that this time!
I kinda hate to leave ATT after only 8 months, but it will be a pain trying to get one from them for even 299, which, I could sell my note one for, at least, on Ebay...
Plus, developement is still pretty slow for the note 2, and its great for the note one...
I saw the commercial last night, they mentioned just about every Samsung phone except the Note 2.

its going to be 199 after mail in rebate. If you factor in 3 months till you get your rebate, it still makes sense to get the rebate, pay the 200 dollar migration fee to value and you still save money over the 24 months.

You only save about $40 doing what you are suggesting. The 3 months on a classic plan cost $60 more than a value plan.

There is a news article on T-mo news' website (i would post the link but since i am a new user, i can't) stating that the note 2 is on sale, but just a different offer from the free after rebate sale that other samsung phone is getting.
And I just asked a sales person at a local t-mobile store in southern california and talked to a customer support on t-mobile's live chat. The store's sales person told me the news is correct and the live chat support didn't deny it either (i didn't ask directly about the sale with the live chat).
However, if you asked anytime earlier than today (i'm assuming anytime before noonish), you might get a different response. This is because the sales person at the store told me that he just received it not too long ago (i went to the store at 3:15pm ish today--nov 14th), so this was new to them as well
I just got off the phone with T-Mobile and the Note 2 is eligible but how this "promotion" works is you pay full pop no matter what phone or contract, and the rest / savings are all mail in rebates... I just bought the Note 2 from Firefly and I think I'm going to save the headache and eat the $100, but that's just my take on it.

you pay 20 dollars a month extra for 20 months. thats 400 dollars extra on the classic plan as any fool would switch to value after 20 months with no migration fee. you pay 40-60 dollars extra while you stay on the classic plan and wait for the rebate depending on if it takes 2 or 3 months. You pay 200 migration fee. So you save 140-160 dollars.

I think the note 2 is roughly 300 with the unlimited classic plan, which one would get back in the form of a rebate within a couple months if the Note 2 is included in this Friday/Saturday sale. ETF is 200 dollars(since I am on the 30 dollar 5GB prepaid Tmo plan through Walmart with my Gnex and would go back to that with the Note 2), so that's where I pulled the Note 2 for 200 figure from. Just idle thoughts.

Exactly what I was just thinking, just got mine maybe 3 weeks ago
Unfortunately I can't login to order or check it out, that portion of their site has been down all day! Is this a repeat of the nexus 4 debacle? Are all of ya'll crashing their servers?
Anyway, late last night/early this AM, I was logged in, and my upgrades available weren't showing the cheap/free prices. I was still showing the GSIII for $150. I wonder if this is due to my account, it's a loyalty unlimited family plan they offered us a few years ago. Note that all lines on the account are eligible for upgrades (I'm actually still using my G1 as my daily driver!), so what gives? Is this for new accounts only? Lame. Guess I better call support and find out, but I'm kinda pissed if it's for new accounts only. I was going to add a line, and get 3 free GSIII's, presently a $450 option for me, even with plan renewal. So much for free, unless anybody knows something I'm missing? It says it's a web only deal, so I should be able to upgrade online, right?
can't log in wtf is that about.
I tried online and couldn't got through so visited store, they do have the phone but it costs changing the unlimited plan which for individual is ~$95/pm in classic plan and ~$85/pm in the value plan. Untill you receive the rebate, you pay the offered price and then you can change the plan.
I'm paying $65 with unlimited web (Even More) on myTouch 4g, and $20-30 a month seems too much to me.
I'll wait on Black Friday to see if I get something chipper somewhere ...
Be forewarned. I just got back from my local T-Mobile store. Yesterday and all month I was told I was eligible for early upgrade. And today I am not. I was told yesterday to wait until today to upgrade because the phone would be free. This sucks. They are trying to get it corrected. Maybe it has to do with thier site being down. I hope so. Otherwise I am going to take my 10 years of loyalty and go elsewhere when my contract is done.

I went to the Tmo store today and walked out with my new S III. I have a family plan with 5 lines. My line was up for renewal. I had to switch to the value plans (I was still using a My Faves plan) but ended up saving quite a bit on my monthly bill.
This deal is not Web only - the deal wouldn't show up for me, either when I tried to upgrade on the 'net.
If you have a line up for renewal, you can get one of the free phones (you do have to pay full price up front and rebate comes in the mail)

Well, just as a warning for everyone, it is most certainly not free, even with the rebate. It will still cost at least $200 in the end. Basically, you pay $200, and you'll eventually get the rebate back for it. However, they're adding an extra $20 per month for the first 20 months to cover the discount... which will end up costing $200.
So, yeah... I'm not sure if anyone else had that same issue, but that's what the salespeople at my local T-Mobile store did to me. I needed the upgrade anyways, as my old HTC G2 is starting to show its age, but this is silly, just charge me $200 and be done with it, calling it free and still shelling out $200 in the end is not what was advertised.
Costco also has a promotion today and tomorrow with $150 MIR (required Unlimited Talk/Text Classic plan + Unlimited 4G data plan)
http://www.tmonews.com/2012/11/costco-gets-in-on-the-two-day-samsung-sale-fun/
I'm eligible for upgrade and having Unlimited Talk/Text Classic plan + Unlimited 4G data plan. I walked into a T-mobile store today and they gave me the price $299.99 for the phone (with $300 MIR) + $37.50 tax + $18 Activation fee = $355.49
Compare to what Costco offers:
$179.99 (with $150 MIR) + 11.25 tax + $0.00 activation free + free shipping + free GS3 accessory = $191.24
I think i'll go with Costco. lower upfront + cheaper after the rebate
If you have corporate or student discount options - check on the advantage pricing - I got $175 + $50 MIR for each of my GS3s (ordered three - signed up for new plan).
At the time costco had it for $149.99 each online. Note I ordered mine 2 weeks ago.

@swan3983 What is up with your math. $20 x 20 months is 400. And where are they adding this $20 a month. Now where in my paperwork says anything about an additional $20 a month for 20 months.

Pretty sure the $20 a month is a value plan thing, doesn't apply to you if you're on a classic plan.. I'm almost positive..

Yes, you'll end up paying addistional $20 for 20x - thats $400!!! And they said its a value plan they gave me the 69.99 unlimited everything which is the cheapest plan! Im returning this tomorrow, its not worth it. I hope I can get all my money back, coz accdg to the gs3 box, if returned they charge you 50 $ re stocking fee!
Heres my receipt: (remove *)

Why are they charging you so much for the phone? Are you not not eligible for a upgrade at this time?
The GS3 is suppose to be $299.99 minus $300 rebate with a classic plan or
$199 minus $200 rebate with a unlimited value plan.

the Value plan isn't subsidized and has 20 payments of $20 (or $15 on some cheaper phones) applied to your bill to pay for the device.
the Classic plan is subsidized, but costs around $20 more... so at > 20 months, the Value Plan is cheaper by $20/mo.

[Q] It it advisable?

Since Tmobile has discontinued selling devices at subsidized prices anymore, let's say, if one were to buy Note 3 from Wirefly or Staples for $299 with a new line on a classic plan (they are still allowing that), and cancel the service after 14 days and pay the ETF of $200 plus the activation $35 (which can be waived) and first month's service fees $80 (minimum), then the total comes to $579 or $614. Has anyone tried this? Will Tmobile blacklist imei once you cancel the contract?

So, who's going to be the dare devil?
I think y'all are gonna be disappointed whoever tries. Carriers got themselves covered on this. Best thing is tmobile's monthly plan.

I would do this myself but I'm out of the country on vacation. But someone should just call tmo and just ask that. But if you early term and pay etf they can't blacklist your phone. But there is still the thought if you do early terminate you may have to pay out the phone possibly. Idk.
A few years back when I worked for one of the major carriers, if you did not return the phone when you canceled within the grace period then you would have to pay the full price of the phone and if you didn't then they would send the bill to collections. This phone is awesome but not worth the harassment of debt collectors and getting your credit score screwed.
I know on amazon you had to keep the service for 6 months. If you didn't you had to return the phone or pay the full price.

I read up on all TM stipulations about 2 weeks before the note 3 came out. I'm not sure about buying the phone on amazon but if you buy it though TM, you are basically refinancing the phone. You're paying a little more each month (I think for me it's like 15 it varies depending on how much you put down), plus you get the jump program included in your insurence. Also if you cancel, you will have to pay off the remaining balance on the phone's "loan".
OP this is exactly how I got both my note 2. Tmo had just stopped the classic plan. Walmart still offered it though. I signed up then the very next day switched to a value plan, paid the 200 fee ( on one of them because I sweet talked the Rep and got the other waived) and was set. I got me and the wife note 2s for 600 bucks total (this is when they were still the hot phone)

Thanks for that info!
Too late, both, Wirefly and Staples, have now taken down the classic plans and are showing the full price for Note 3 Oh well, you snooze, you definitely lose! I will wait for some time b4 the price comes down a little...
