Home Key Double Click doesn't work - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm wondering if any of you guys experience this. I got my Galaxy s3 almost a month ago. Out of the box, when I double click the home key, it launches S voice. However, after Rooting (or sometime after that), I noticed that double clicking the home screen doesn't launch the S voice anymore. I toggled the setting under S-Voice menu to activate or deactivate double click launch but there's no difference -- still doesn't launch it. I did update my ROM to Kyan ROM hoping changing the ROM will make it work however, it still doesn't work. I even followed the instruction in replacing double click launch form S-Voice to Google NOW, unfortnately, still no luck.
Anybody knows how to check or fix this? Really wanted to use the double click function for Google NOW.

Check kyan's changelog and thread to see if it's been changed or if anyone else is having the same issue... you're running custom software so this needs to be addressed or answered in his ROM thread...

This should be in QnA

Try the home2 shortcut from the play store, works great with stock rooted ICS with Google Now
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2

I use apex launcher and there is a setting in there for the home button to open any app (I chose the google search app). I have it set up so that first press goes to home page of the launcher and second press opens up google now.

I did use home2shortcut as well but still didn't work. I don't think its purely a kyan rom issue as I had this issue when j was still using stock.

This work around worked. Seems like a great replacement to the touchwiz... wondering what functionality does the touchwiz have that this doesn't have. Also, I'm still hoping I could get a way to make the double click work without APEX Launcher... but yeah, this is a good workaround!
Thanks!

Google search widget not working properly with launcher pro

Running dc3.5 with launcher pro. I've got the search widget on my home screen and after the first time I use it after a reboot it jumps to the top of the screen and doesn't work at all anymore till I reboot. The search key will bring up the keyboard to enter text but won't actually enter anything into the text field. Any ideas why this is happening? I'm sure it's an issue with launcher pro because I was having the same problem when I was running the widget and lp on dc 3.2.x before I lost my old evo (rip )
Swyped from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm currently running the most recent Fresh ROM and using LP Plus and don't have any issues with the Google search widget. I can enter text and also the voice to text works almost flawlessly on it. HTH
lucky you. I'm gonna try to uninstall and reinstall both again.
Also, I've switched roms to Ava6 and i'm still experiencing the same problem.
fixed
I had the same problem and finally came up with an easy fix. I know its going to sound weird but bear with me.
First hold down on the searchbar and drag it to the trashcan. Now go to another page, yes it does have to be another page. Clear a desktop row that is not the top row. Hold down on the blank row and add the Google search widget there. Now hold down on it and move it back to where you originally had it. And fixed......
Hope it works for you.

Google search brought me here... I can confirm that this does seem to work; I'm using LP v0.7.6.0 on a Samsung Captivate SGH-I897 running leaked froyo build
I had this same issue, reinstalling LP fixed it
Im also having this issue. Ill try those strategies. So far moving the bar around hasn't helped. Running leaked Froyo on Samsung Captivate.
Edit: Problem solved by using "Google Search" widget rather than "Search" widget. They look and preform the same. Why I have two of those and what the material differences are, I'm not sure! (maybe one is an updated form and one is legacy)
Do you guys think when you re-installed LP you may have switched with search widget you used?
youre crazy widget moving black magic method worked!!!!
I can also confirm the work-around. The new widget no longer animates to the top.

Voice Actions and Widget Locker (ICS)

Hello,
Since this phone does not have a physical search button it is kind of difficult to get the voice actions working quickly.
I am looking for a simple button widget, that I can add to widget locker, to provide a way to use a voice action quickly from the lock screen.
For some reason widgetlocker doesn't have this built in, and I can't seen to find any other form of widget to get this done with the default ICS voice actions.
Anyone got any ideas?
problem is that there is no voice search app on the galaxy nexus.
so theres no way for any shortcut or widget to actually access it. closest thing you can do is link to google search and then press the mic button. it's incredibly annoying and one of the first things i noticed with the phone.
there might be a way to do it somehow with a custom shortcut app, but since anycut doesn't work, i don't even know what app to use to try. maybe someone can reply here with an app that does that.

Well car-home doesn't seem to work for the nexus yet, that would have been an acceptable workaround. It is just not feasible to hit that tiny search button while driving
nope absolutely not.
the best advice i can give you, is to download this: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.speaktoit.assistant
you can setup a link to that in widget locker. it has a much larger mic button and uses the same voice recognition. it sometimes has issues with calling, for example, if i call my girlfriend i have to say her full name and mobile or it won't call, even though mobile is set as the default.
in it's defense, using the icon on the home screen does the same crap. it doesn't understand my girlfriends name well since it's Carolyn and it keeps thinking i'm saying Caroline. which is stupid me cause Lyn and Line are pronounced differently. but okay enough *****ing about that.
anyway, for now i think personal assistant is your best bet, and it works perfectly on ICS. only exception being custom avatars get really small, but i've contacted them and they're working on a fix for that.
also it has IMO, the BEST voice for any app available on the market.

You don't have to go inside the search bar and then hit the mic.... All you gotta do is hit the mic from the home screen and it'll get you to voice actions. In ways its quicker than before with hardware buttons...But then at times, you can easily go into type search and sometimes it won't go into either search at all.

yeah but his situation was with driving. he wanted to be able to go from the lock screen directly to voice, and that doesn't work in ICS. But the assistant makes it a little easier since it has a larger button and is at the bottom where you'd unlock the phone.
I'd like to see a soft-key mod to add search and "long-press to voice search" functionality.
Jeannie is really good and I think the paid version you can shake the phone to wake it

If you are on a custom 4.0.3 rom , then you can actually have this. For example, using zygote, runandhide has created what is named the 5 soft key mod. It makes the softkeys be menu, back, home, multitasking, then search. If you long press the search, you can pick voice search.
I highly recommend droid theorys zygote romantic, it's so smooth and has great features and a great community backing.

If you're referring to my post, I apologize.
What I said only applies to the CDMA Zygot3 rom by DroidTheory, but there may be other roms that have this. Over on Rootz, another use has created several softkey mods that work with the Zygot3 rom.
There are softkey mods that do add either a menu button or a menu and search button to the softkey bar. The search key that gets added does allow for a long press, allowing for voice search/actions to be chosen.
Long story short, find a rom that has softkey mods similar to the ones seen here and you'll achieve what yo desired.

That sounds like a feature worth switching to a custom rom for. I wanted to see how I liked a vanilla stock phone the way Google intended... its my first Nexus. I assumed that the roms would have a few kinks in them. What would you recommend? I have the Verizon Galaxy Nexus.
I have tried aokp, cm9 kangs, and have been sitting on droidtheorys axiom (formerly zygote). It's pretty slick and he updates fairly regularly. Check it out on rootzwiki. I may also try aokp or rootzboat just to check out the customization.
In terms of kernels, I haven't found one I love yet. Imoseyon has been doing a good job, tempted to try faux or Franciscofranco. They're all working to get correct undervolting though

I agree with this. This should have been configurable in the stock OS. I missing being able to kill an app by holding the back key on CM7. I'd prefer to stay stock on this phone, and haven't found a good reason to even root it yet.
I'm not even sure I need the search button if we could map whatever we wanted to the current button's long press.

Home - Voice action

Double click or gesture to bring up Task Manager?

I don't like to hold the home button to get the task manager. Are there other options like double clicking or maybe a gesture? I'm using Go Launcher EX.
I had Apex Launcher on captivate and saved my settings from there where swipe up would bring up my task manager. It worked on my S3 as well but if i reset my settings to blank i wouldnt be able to save it...
the best thing to do that might work which im gonna try since i just switced to Go Launcher is to bring my settings over to my captivate and then use the task manager as the swipe up gesture and then load the settings saved from there back on my device.
I'm using nova prime and I have double tap to open up recent apps works perfectly

BEST RECOMMENDATION EVER.
Back in the Nexus S days I'd always hope that a dev would switch out the search key for recent apps, but this app totally makes up for the lack of that hardware key!
THANKS

So this is how I run my phone. I gesture everything from the right side of the phone since my thumb is always there. Lower half leads to 12 shortcuts that I always use. Swipepad beats going to the homescreen. And top half has multitasking options. Remember to hit the thanks button if you use either of these apps. Both are free

You could always put a shortcut to the taskbar onto your desktop.
I put all my favorite apps into folders on my launcher.
The stripe at the top left is a slider for my screen brightness.
This keeps my desktop clean for when I use my animated fishtank desktop.
You can also use wave launcher btw. You can just swipe to bring it up

The app is called Task Changer, and search for it by:
"task changer"
With the quotations. Otherwise the stupid play store doesn't give you the exact hit.

I'm not sure if its considered a task manager, but my newest app does contain a Recent Apps feature.
Here's a link to a preview video I made http://youtu.be/UIEIqQYU0ZI
You basically create gestures to do all kinds of things and you're also able to move the little Trigger to quick-activate a gesture.
In the video, you'll see that if I drag my Trigger icon up and release, it'll launch out Recent Apps even if I didn't create a Recent Apps gesture. You can customize that part however you want.
Besides Recent Apps, other features are
Launching Apps
Changing Settings, including a whole Profile
Creating and launching App Panels (In the video I set the drag right action to be launch an App Panel that holds all my apps, so I can access all my apps no matter where I am)
Pulling Notification Bar
Opening a Webpage
And just... a whole lot more. The beginning of the video is a preview of the gestures that can be created.
The app will be released as soon as I am able to fully test out all its features on my Galaxy S III that is arriving tomorrow. Release date should be in the next 2-3 days and no later than the 15th.

What you can do that i did is you can save your Launcher settings to your SD card and go back to your previous galaxy S and load it there.
I had Slim ICS on my Captivate and had gotten Task manager to install on the phone. Since it became a actual app it showed on my list for gestures. I saved the settings back to the SD and transferred back to the S3 and works .. just dont remove the gesture in the options in your launcher on your S3 or youll have to reload the settings again !

Hi Mr "Task Changer Titanium" Developer
I just bought a license and gave 5 star reviews on the app and the license app .... I got the thank-you pop up with the license number, telling me to enter it into the settings ... but I don't see anywhere in the TCT settings to enter it and I am still getting the periodic pop-up saying "you need to buy a license to run this ...."
JUST SO happy to have a touch/capacitive HOME solution again !!!
Thanks for you help

Home button problems

My GS3 is awesome, working since day one.
However a problem came up with my home button. Sometimes when I have the phone running the home button would go to the task switcher and the menu button would go to Google Now.
When I reboot it, the home button works normally and goes to the home screen.
Rom issue?
Thanks

A few people complained about it in tasks previous build. If that's what you're running look no further. The latest 2/26 build fixed it. In other words, it might be rom related.

Apex Launcher Pro and CarbonRom. I also tried LiquidSmooth and other roms but also have this problem, so now I'm thinking its Apex Launcher, not sure though
Might be Apex Pro, I had the issue a few days ago with the home button going to the task switcher.(I'm on ParanoidKangdroid with Apex pro) I disabled Custom Actions for keys located in settings>Interface>Hardware keys then restarted and haven't had the issue since. So if you have custom actions for hardware keys that maybe it.
Edit: I actually remember some people a while back mentioning this issue on cm10.1 roms, might be a 4.2 issue.
It's a timing issue with long presses. It happens on trebuchet (cm's launcher) and apparently the other third party ones. If you'll notice the task switcher is a long press on home and a long press on menu is set to be search assistant. For whatever reason the duration needed to execute a long press gets shortened to what seems like milliseconds. If you very very quickly press whatever button you're trying to use it doesn't go with the long press, but hold it any longer than a couple hundred milliseconds and it long presses.
Edit: considering it's an issue on several launchers, it's gotta be the aosp source or something to do with our hardware making this happen.

How did you get it working? It says it's not available for my device/region.
This is how you install good lock on the Tab S3 the good lock app itself will not work so you have to install the bits of it separately they will all be different applications there is 9 of them all together but instructions are in the screenshots below
1 download from site
2 unzip and install all app files within the folder
3 ready to go enter all the Apps and start tweaking your device
4 . Download Nova Launcher from the app store the rest of the instructions are at the bottom of the webpage with the download on
https://www.androidsage.com/2018/06...-install-good-lock-for-samsung-galaxy-phones/
I have tested it all and it works some bits obviously don't apply to the Tab S3 like always on display functions etc but most of it will edit things and work it seems pretty cool but personally it's a bit too clunky at the moment for me as I like using the stock launcher you can switch back to stock after editing the settings but every time you want to change a setting you will have to re make Nova Launcher your default change the setting and then go back to the default home launcher I'm hoping they will release it for the Tab S3 at some point as it seems to work perfectly so hopefully one day soon it will be compatible with this device but if you want to give it a go and check it out the above instructions should do the trick
