[HOW TO] Replace Stock Boot Animation w/ I9300 Boot Animation - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

figured id throw this out there for people who arent running a custom rom/kernel that supports bootanimation.zip. i got tired of the annoying tmobile bootanimation and sound, so i grabbed the boot animation from the international version. heres what i did...
*Reminder: you have to be rooted to do this*
1. download THIS zip file and unzip
2. navigate to /system/media and replace bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg with the files from the zip
3. navigate to /system/media/video/shutdown and replace shutdown.qmg with the one from the zip
4. reboot and enjoy!
*optional*
if you want to remove the startup/shutdown sounds do this:
navigate to /system/media/audio/ui and delete these 3 files (or rename with .bak at the end of the file name): PowerOff.ogg, PowerOff.wav and PowerOn.ogg
*Option 2* flash the zip below in recovery, thanks to cybrnook!

What's the difference? I tried looking for a video of the i9300 boot animation on Google and Youtube with no results.

it a purple/blue whispy sorta looking thing that circles around the samsung logo. pretty basic, but i like it better than the stupid one tmo puts on there. tried searching myself and couldnt find a video. if youre on aosp, im pretty sure the qmg files wont work

Yeah, I went to the CM10 ROM and it just has their boot animation. But now that you reminded me I do remember the stock T-Mobile boot animation being obnoxious. I'd get rid of that asap as well.

No worries
Since I don't have an SGS3 yet I wasn't even sure what the boot up looked like myself. Honestly I'm surprised the international version doesn't have the nice Samsung Galaxy S logo with the S pulsating.

Thanks I ws tired of the T-Mobile one too

Anyone know where I can find a GS2 scaled version of this? Ive used the pulsating S one but it lags a bit, they have updated the speed of it but its only in bootanimation.zip and I use stock kernel that doesnt support that.. and i think this one is plain and simple than the pulsating one.. or if anyone know if this could work since its not all over the screen, only center animation.. thank you.

Is there anyone that could make a boot animation zip for aosp roms?
Been searching around but couldnt find a zip of this one!

It did not work on my Infamous rom. My guess is that Infamous is an AOSP rom.

Hi Guys, how I can make the stock ROM to accept bootanimation.zip or make an qmg file? Thanks!!

Nexus Prime Bootanimation, flashable.

Well, just what the title says, I guess.. The leaked Ice Cream Sandwich bootanimation from the Nexus Prime, I just made up a flashable zip, so you don't have to mess around with a file explorer, or the changing permissions by hand nonsense.
(Flashes normally thru clockwork,no wipe needed.)
Hope y'all like it, as a simple script like that takes me right about to the limit of my abilities. (lol)
Anyhow, here you go:
http://db.tt/EqtFPdhH,
And here's a vid of it running on some other guy's device (I think the same guy who actually leaked it) ... http://goo.gl/6oxnD
UPDATE: And finally, Here's a version for those of you who are running the stock, rooted kernel:

I'm on Midnight, and it works fine here..
(It's also deodexed, but if your rom is stock, then perhaps I just wasn't aware where the 'stock' Bootanimation was located and what it is named..
This zip basically flashes a new file named "bootanimation.zip" to the system/media/ folder, overwriting the one that's already there, with the correct permissions. I assumed that the stock boot animation was in the same spot.. Apparently it isn't, but if you or someone else could actually take a look with a file explorer, I'd be happy to make one up for "Stock" location as well. (In the meantime, if you don't wanna wait, just extract my zip^, and replace it "by hand".
Sorry about that..
<<work in progress>>
please make one for stock
Not bad, thanks!
Works fine Starburst v1.4 - super throwed THanks!
For those that it is not working for ...It needs a kernel with bootanimation.zip support.

Pretty cool boot animation. As far as where the stock boot animation is, it is locked under /system/media. You can get to this by using the root explorer. You can also use the stock file viewer, but root explorer allow you to read and write. Hope this helps.
Epic 4G Touch
Ok for those having issues I flashed zedomax v1 kernal with boot ani support from the development section.....as soon as I flashed that the phone booted with the prime ani hope this helps for those who flashed the acs deodex stock rom. I am still stock with root and busybox.

Sweet job porting this over...works well.
Does anybody else think it looks kinda "low-res"? The bootanimation that comes with starburst is so crisp and cool...like og epic's evolved...I think if this one looked better quality It'd be the bomb though

You need a kernel that's bootanimation compatible. Otherwise, the .qmg files in system/media will keep it from playing.

[BOOTANIMATION] - Galaxy Nexus Intro Animation

First of all, thanks to Rockstar52 for scaling these files for the Galaxy Nexus.
This is just a variant where the text "GALAXY NEXUS" stays on the screen until boot.
The animation is the first 10 seconds of this clip, then the text "GALAXY NEXUS" is displayed until the phone finishes booting.
Tested and working good on my GNex with AOKP.
Please let me know which ROM you are using and whether it works or not.
Disclaimers: I claim no credit for the video used, and I am not responsible for anything you do to your device.
Download v.1: https://rapidshare.com/files/2533909124/bootanimation.zip
or http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28851150/bootanimation/bootanimation GNex Intro v1.zip
v.2: https://rapidshare.com/files/2110170024/bootanimation.zip
or http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28851150/bootanimation/bootanimation GNex Intro v2.zip
v.2 uses additional frames from the video. with latest AOKP and franco kernel, works flawless.
do inform me if you get lags and which ROM you are using.
How to install:
Rename downloaded file to "bootanimation.zip", if it isn't named as such
You should have root access.

don't worry got it working tried different file explorer "root browser".
if you can't find data/local, try creating local folder within data.
or as romgorz suggested, try putting it into system/media

[MOD] Boot animations Tutorial for any ROM on E4GT

So we finally have a method to change our boot animations without using the very expensive program to create QMG files.
I am going to give you an E4GT specific tutorial that I have come up with because this method was created and used for the Note II.
Thank you to smokin1337 for posting the Note II version HERE
"Update: As pointed out in the comments, this was also accomplished by XDA Senior Member anbech in his thread originally aimed at the SGS3."
SGS3 Thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897969
Here we go!!!
ROOT is required.
1. Add bootanimation.zip of your choice to /system/media
2. Flash Bootanimation4U.zip in recovery of your choice other than stock.
Flash Gears-Bootanim.zip in recovery of choice(other than stock) for generic boot animation. Will also fix a bug of a non working boot animation causing a completely black screen. Even after boot. Just flash this and it will fix your problem.
Those two files are attached.
If you want sound add an ogg file named PowerOn.ogg to /system/media/audio/ui, if sound doesn't work be sure /system/bin/samsungpowersoundplay exists if its there it will play sound if not its not included in your rom download it HERE then put it where it belongs and fix the perms which should be rwxr-xr-x
Reboot...Enjoy
Some custom boot animations
Kick Ace Boot Animations
12MaNy's Boot animations
You can also use Rom Toolbox found in the market to change your boot animations to any that they have on their server. Some may not work but most do. Don't worry if it doesn't work, your phone will still boot fine. I will go over how to make RTB animations work correctly.
Flash bootanimation4u.zip in recovery
Grab ROM Toolbox from the market. There is a lite version that is free and a Pro version that is $4.99. I highly suggest getting the pro version.
Next you will scroll over into the 'Interface section of RTB and go down to boot animations.
That will load up all of the available animations to install.
Next you will press the menu softkey and a menu will pop up.
Hit the second option for the 'Install Location'.
Change it to "/system/media/" (No quotes) Also do not change the file name.
After that you can install any normal boot animation.
If you want to install Tablet animations you will need to...
Download it first. Do not install.
Click it and select "Resize"
Change the width to 480
Change the height to 800
Make sure the FPS is at 30
Hit ok and then install it as normal
Reboot to view it.
(If you get a black screen with no animation try changing the FPS to 20 if that doesn't work, then the animation most likely wont work, but feel free to try a different FPS)
Thanks for reading guys and I hope I helped some of you new guys and veterans bring more customization to your phone.
 :highfive:
This is awesome. Thank you for this. Can't wait to finally have custom boot animation back.

getting black screen is usually caused by bad desc.txt file, or the bootanimation.zip file being compressed..
if getting black screen, try remake the desc.txt file with notepad++, and/or try extract the bootanimation.zip file, then add the desc.txt file and the including part-folders into a new bootanimation.zip file with no compression...
just my 2cents

The originals are in .qmg format. I am using the Cyanogenmod 13 ROM and it uses bootanimation.zip files. That said, I extracted the original Boot Animation files for you from a Stock SM-T810 ROM, zipped them up and saved them here. I hope that helps.
Peace

@stoehner ... Are you still looking for a flashable zip version? If so I have made one of the "Pokemon" animation but on principle I haven't made one of the "Marvel DC", I cannot in all honesty live with an animation as large as 17Mb in size, that's outrageous.
@stoehner a couple of caveats (1) This flashable will only work with a CM13 or similar ROM - that is to say you must be running a ROM which uses the standard .jpg/.png format boot animations, it will not work with Samsung's default .qmg setup. (2) After you have flashed it check that the permissions are Octal 0644 - this isn't essential but keeps it tidy.

No, you have to copy them to root system/media
17mb is big I know but does it really matter¿ it will not degrade the startup in anyway, and it looks cool lol

Yes if you want to live in the stone age then by all means do as you suggest but these days people are more like @stoehner they want the ease of a flashable zip file that can be flashed in recovery or by using the app "Flashify". So if anyone wants the flashable I can upload it here or if you think that means I am hi-jacking your thread then I will start my own which will consist of all flashable zips for the S2 T810. I also make flashable Logos for the S2.
Good luck to you if you think that installing countless huge programs and apps will not affect the performance of your device.

As you would have it brother, for me it is a most simple thing to copy it to the directory but if you want to create a flashable zip by all means go ahead. Do it here, there or anywhere. I have no interest in flashable zips though and I am a person, so I guess your statement has some credibility issues... This thread was just a little fun that I was having a while ago, I am no longer using either of the boot animations as I went back to stock. Many blessings and all the best.
