Clockword Mod / Rom Manager Observation - Desire General

I noticed something weird here, I backup up my system with rom manager, and flashed cyanogen 7. Cyanogen decided to loop its boot animation constantly. So I think ok restore, go into restore choose menu options and press power button. All I got was a logo from rom manager on screen and nothing else. So after panicing a little I realised something, it would seem in the current version of clockwork recovery that the button assignments have changed, the power button no longer selects menu options but the circular button in the centre of the bottom row of buttons does!
Just thought I'd mention this in case anyone else has similar worries as it doesn't seem to be documented anywhere I have looked.

I panicked too seeing there are still people using that pos software. Ditch rom manager for being responsible for more bricks than most of us these days can count.

Which software are you referring to, rom manager, cyanogen or clockwork. Also what rom would you recommend, I could use one that will handle an ext partition to conpensate for lack of internal memory

rom manager is known for f*****g up phones and CWM recovery has problems to when it comes to partitioning sdcards, ditch them both and go for 4ext recovery its better in everyway.
Oh and bout asking erklat about whats the best rom to use..... well... good luck with that lol

Erklat is right, there is no reason to use ROM Manager (i said it before countless times), and do yourself a favor and switch recovery to 4ext.

just looked at 4Ext recovery control, it ain't exactly user friendly is it. Damn thing says it needs updating then refuses to do so, and also insists on busybox which wants to take what little internal memory I have left. Thank god I kept a restore image!

Rom Manager/Clockwork Recovery

As most of you already know I have no trackpad and due to this I can't use custom recoverys. I've been campaigning for an option to use power to select so I can use recovery again.
Now I have a problem that I can't flash any froyo roms but can flash others fine. I've narrowed down the problem I think. It's definitely not SD card related or ext related. I think the rom manager does not wipe every necessary thing that it needs to. When I could use recovery before I could flash froyo roms. Now I have rom manager as my only option and it only seems to wipe data cache and ext.
ROM Manager didn't wipe SD-EXT for me.
If you use linux then format your card in it and try again. Maybe this helps.
Will post again when something crosses my mind
EDiT: Just read your post again. Are you shure it's not SD?
OK. Then try using... damn you and your trackball

Yeah i have tried reformat of sd card. Tried a new sd card with only fat32 on it. Tried a version of froyo without a2sd.
Really stuck haha.
So what's stopping you going stock and taking it back for exchange? The T-Mobile ROM is available so I'd just do that!!
Warranty void. It's only the trackpad it would be fine if I wasn't such a rom whore lol
The warranty isn't void if you go back to stock...they won't even know you flashed a Rom

Ha thank you. Yeah water damage equals instantly void. I opened it up and fixed it but 2 months later the trackpad is totally gone. I just really want the ability to use recovery fully again.
What if you test your luck and bring it back like this?
With stock rom ofc
If they say no... you could just pay for the trackpad!

that makes sense....(htc sense ) nah, but really.....if it costs even 50 bucks id still say thats worth it....a 400quid phone with limited usability....?
The phones fine. I only need trackpad for recovery. Or alternate button.
I wouldn't hope too much on someone developing another recovery...
What if you edit the rom you are using and remap you trackpad press to another button?
Like the search button which i personally never use
EDiT: I'm not 100% shure this would work in recovery... but it's worth a try!
I'm pretty sure it needs to be edited within the recovery its not rom specific.
Hmm... your point seems right since all the modules are loaded in the rom and none of them is used for recovery...
I will check the AMDesireRecovery and look where they have all those button settings

Thanks. I have no idea where to start. All i know is that it is possible. Clockwork 2.0.0.3 had it but it couldn't mount the sd card or anything but the power button did select! I don't know how to edit a recovery or what file controls what. I mean there is a "keys" file but is that keys as in buttons or something else?
I think that the keys file is the verification if the zip is signed... I may be wrong...
What if we somehow merge the files of a recovery which uses power to select with a newer recovery?
Can you provide 2.0.0.3 of ClockWorkMod?
Ok just tried straight swapping the keys file and that did nothing. No response.
EDIT: Give me 2 mins.
EDIT2: Uploading very slowly. It would be great to have 2.0.0.3 merged with 2.0.1.4 (latest) as that would give me all the functionality i need.
Oh damn... the recoveries need to be signed so the stock recovery can eat them...
Do we need a special sign for that?
Yeah. There is a thread on here somewhere that has the tools for signing them...it's on the first page i'll have a quick look.
Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709141 bottom of the post.
I know how to sign files but I was wondering if we need some HTC cert for signing.
I will try to do it with the normal one if needed.
We have a problem... if I edit the files and put it back together I can't test it coz I have flashed the permanent version. :S

[Q] desire hd flash rom help

guys hello,
i am new at the android "scene"
andd i need some help. a lot of people report that oxygen v2 rc5 is a lot
faster-smoother than htc sense. now from what i read it's based on gingerbread
right? and if so if i flash my DHD will i be able to root? and if yes could you provide
a noob's guide to flash my DHD?
thanx in advance.
Oxygen, isn't that for the standard desire? CM6.1.3 is fast and android stock. Isn't gingerbread yet though.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
don't ask me i am the noob here!
Did you find it in the development section for the DHD??
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
i found it while searching on a different thread and i clicked a link and
there i was:

It's for the standard desire.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
ok so do you have any other rom to suggest.
i am looking for one that isn't lacking any features,
is stable and has a smoother scrolling look on like an
iphone.
ps: no i don't want an iphone i just want my brother
who has one to stop using the only advantage of his phone
over mine to annoy me.
Just backup your existing Rom and start flashing Rom's. LeeDroid is popular, I run CM6.1.3 which I think is very good. Have a play and see what you like. Enjoy.

one last thing --> how do you flash a new rom???????
Read the sticky threads on the developers thread. You really need to understand what your doing before going any further.

ok thanx, will do.
ok so i got everything figured out. it's not as difficult as i thought
but there's a small problem. i install clockworkmod recovery from rom manager
but when i get into recovery i see the phone with the triangle. then i press
volume+ and power and the menu appears but it only has the 4 basics
no nandroid. what do i do?

Sounds like you don't have s-off. If you don't have s-off your recovery will be restored to the factory version when you reboot.
Go to the development section and grab the "one click radio s-off" tool. It will take care of the problem for you.
Sent from my performance enhanced Desire HD
ok gonna try that thanx.
read and do this first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841076
then choose any rom from the development section .. place the downloaded file on your sd card .. reboot into recovery choose install zip from sd card .. navigate to your downloaded file and install
I would recommend Android Revolution HD or Leedroid if you are looking for something very stable ..
ok guys thanx for your help but idecided not
to flash because i did some tricks and now my phone running fine.
1)uninstalled task manager (i am on froyo and you know the rest. haha)
2)uninstalled setcpu (i read somewhere that it may cause problems when running even if not profiles or any sort of overclock are active. that was the case with me, although i will miss the 245mhz screen-off profile.)
3)reduced my widgets and pages from 9 to 3 and 6 to 2 respectively
4)changed some options in launcher pro
these resulted in no more fc's and a lot smoother scrolling in menu, sms, homescreens etc.
despite the fact that when i scroll slowly between homescreens it's a bit laggy.
overall great.
thx again guys. if nothing else, i learnt a lot.

What is that second vibration on startup about?

When I first got my phone like many others, it vibrated when the phone first turned on and that's it. After flashing a few radios, I now have and have for awhile, the second vibrate about five seconds after the first. I think I read somewhere what it was, but can't seem to find it now. Did we ever figure out definitively what causes that?
I know in between flashing radios it stopped for awhile, and then came back and has been with me ever since. Not worried about it, just curious. Thank you.

Same here. What is the second vibration on startup all about?
I noticed this after flashing the 04.30 radio over stock.
I know someone knows or at least has an idea!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
I think it only shows up when you flash radios. I haven't flashed a radio on my past two devices and I have only one vibrate.

Shameless bump. I want an answer to this.

I think first vibration is when you push button and phone is "okay, got it, I'm booting up" and then second when "I'm ready, you can enter your pin code". I had the same on Spica and there it was useful because it booted about 1 minute.

That makes sense but none of our phones ever did that until we started changing radios. So it's obviously not part of the "normal" boot up process.
I have not changed radios on my phone yet. It is rooted. I get the second vibration also. I have been wondering why it does this also. It did not start doing this until I rooted my phone.
Bumpity..... I'm curious as to why myself

I don't know what causes it but if you want to make it go away try this. Go to ROM Manager and select to download rom > virtuous > virtuous sense 1.0.2. Let it download all the way and then hit cancel, don't flash it. Then do a nandroid from within ROM Manager and it will be gone....back to just a single vibration at boot.
Ext3 vs ext4 ?
Ive Had This Issue A Few Times And After Trying To Fix It I Believe It Could Be Due To CWM Formatting The Devices Partitions As EXT3 When It Should Be EXT4.
Can Anyone With This Issue Please Confirm This By Posting The Result Of Typing "mount" In A Terminal.
Their Should Be A Line Which Says "/dev/block/mmcblk0p25 on /system type" And Then The Filesystem Type.
I Hope That This Is The Cause As If I Am Correct It Will Be An Easy Fix

I noticed a few months ago that after I took virtuous froyo for a test run that my second vibration was gone. Since then I flashed a new radio and the second vibration came back. I thought I'd test what had happened before and low and behold just downloading it with rom manager and creating a backup got rid of the damned thing. One of those wtf moments...lol. It must have something to do with the old vs. new ext. as OllieD suggests.

Just ran that in an ADB shell. Here's what I got:
/dev/block/mmcblk0p25 on /system type ext4 (ro,relatime,barrier=1,data=ordered)

So it's not the formatting. There's another reason why there's a second vibration, but that's really a minor bug.
Misc Partition?
Can Someone With The Bug Please Dump Their Misc Partition?
Run "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17 of=/sdcard/Misc.img" In A Terminal And Upload The "Misc.img" File From Their SD Card Somewhere ?
Based On The Previous Fix Mentioned I Believe It Could Be To Do With The Way Rom Manager Reboots Into Recovery.
A Command Is Stored Somewhere That Lets HBoot Know Which Mode To Reboot Into.
An Error With This Command Probably Causes The Second Vibrate And When Rom Manager Reboots Into Recovery It Clears This Flag. Although I Remember Flashing Various ROMs Via Rom Manager Without This Issue Being Fixed.

Excellent, thanks for sharing it, works perfect, but why does it have to be so ugly??
No more touch to physical buttons, we have to press them to much to do some things, some times I thougt they were going to break using them all the time.
I hope for next release to see a better UI at least!!
It works great. Nandroids with this are in new location and format. Use custom recovery to use old Nandroids. The major problem is Wipe Data/Factory Reset is it also formats sd-ext partition. I wiped 10 gigs of music last night....dammit. Just a warning if you prefer data on sd-ext for safety.
I don't like to use fat filesystems if I don't have to. Win 7 has corrupted my sdcard a few times now.
I really like the multi zip flashing. If you flash 2-4 zips an install, you'll love it too.
This was the only recovery option for the kindle fire for a long time, so I can also share that there are theme options to help a little with the "ugliness", just check the link below.

Thanks God there are themes, I saw that option in the recovery but I didnt know what to do, this is the most ugliest application ever seen made !!
At least is something we need!
Heads up....The Kindle Fire themes aren't designed and formatted properly for our screen size, you'll be missing important selections if you install one. It sucks cause that ICS Blue one looks awesome.
It shouldn't be too hard to merge into the default theme if anyone wants too. Mainly just replacing the stock images with the theme's images and editing the ui.xml for proper font color. Maybe more, but I haven't looked too deep at Touch Recovery Themeing yet. Now that we have Bravo ICS, I have other projects I'd rather do...like start MIUI V4 from scratch....its gonna be a pain in the ass since I can only reference from other devices.
Has anybody tried Touch Recovery with Multiboot yet? Honestly, I'm a bit nervous to try since I'm not sure if the two are compatible.

download the flashable .zip file from this site: http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/91
put it on your sd card.
hopefully you're actually using Clockwork Mod recovery and not bandroidx's Bootstrap recovery method - that's obsolete. When you get to CWM (reboot phone, when LED turns blue press the volume down button), go down to install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card, find the TWRP file, and select yes to flash. no need to wipe afterwards, just reboot your phone. When LED turns blue again, and you press volume down button, you should enter TWRP recovery.
I don't know if it's still the case, but the last time I checked (first release) it was pretty buggy. I just stick with the tried and true CWM.

Thanks for your response. Well, I thought I was using cwm but now im doubting it because I followed bandroidx's thread so I must've used his method because there wasn't any other choice at the time.
So, if that is the case... then I need to flash a true cwmr? If so, where can I find instructions to that process? I've been trying to find it but everything says to flash through recovery but how if what I have is incorrect?
Thanks, major props to all of you.

True that. Currently trying out PowerAmp for the first time, clean interface and a decent trial period..... Probably gonna try PlayerPro as well for its DSP pack and video support.
My only real gripe with Jet is the 20 second limit on some of the features\effects. Should at least be a minute or two so you know if they're worth buying the full version for.
Mort's great if you have a ton of music already sorted in folders by Main Folder>Artist>Album>Track like all mine are (and you're too lazy to fix id3 tags). Especially handy if you download by the discography.... My only complaint with it is that the reverb effects don't work with the Bravo, but I don't use them (pc or phone or any music app ever). I'd like an ICS dark styled holo theme for it, but the ones it comes with are good enough and somewhat customizable.
Mort also has a PC\Mac version available, but I've never used it since I use Linux.
Mort Player Official Site if you're interested.
Hopefully Touch Recovery gets better with time. I'd use it full time, but the Wipe Data\Cache wipes sdext as well; and I use sdext for my music and files I don't want getting corrupted on fat32 -- worst choice of filesystem for sdcards imho -- we should at least be able to use the sdcard as ext2\3.... (At least some part of all this was about Touch Recovery)

I have been googling for a solution, but seems like it is a quite rare(?) problem, and since im pretty new in this rooting business im not sure of what to try.
I have however sucessfully "installed" the Andromadus Mimicry ROM using the Rom Manager app.
But since i have to flash Gapps to be able to use market, im still stuck because of the need for Clockwork to work.
Does anybody have any idea of what i can try to do to fix this?
P.S. pardon the english, not my native tongue
Best Regards
Are you using the power button or the trackball to select in clockwork?
Also consider updating to a touch based recovery, 4ext is amazing but at least go fo clockwork touch

Wow...is this for real..?
I've been using the power button all this time, so i tried using the trackball like u suggested and it works!
Feel like such a moron...
Thanks for the help(and the fast reply)!
No problem, it happens to many so don't worry about it
I do still suggest an upgrade though, life will become much better, here's how
