strange thing when disabling apps after new update. - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

So I Odined the new full stock ROM, cleared data/cache to start over fresh, bone stock. Now when I disable apps from the settings/applications menu, they used disappear from the apps list. Now in there place is a generic picture for all the disabled apps with the app name. I hit them and they just say app not found, or something like that.
Anyone else run in to this?

This is what Im talking about.

Press menu while in app drawer and then hide apps. That should remove them from the drawer.

Thanks, I realise I can do that, Im just wondering if its caused by the new update, or if its something with my phone itself.

If anyone has a few minutes to kill, and you've updated and stock, not rooted or anything with a lot of apps disabled, would you mind enabling them all, then rebooting the phone, and disabling them again? I know it's a PITA, so thank you very much.

I'm kinda new to Touchwiz, so I don't know if this would have any side effects, but you could try to clear data for the launcher then reboot.

Stock browser and mobile data issues on 2.3.3

For some reason, randomly my mobile data will turn off. Luckily, I threw a widget on another page. I have to turn it off then back on to get it to connect again. Minor annoyance.
The other issue is after using the new browser since Friday GB release. It works fine for awhile, then it acts up. It will no longer stay open, acting like a memory free-up is kicking it off. I will open it, it will load google as the homepage, and immediately kill the app. No task killers or any of that garbage. To fix, it needs a full reboot. Any way I could do a bug monitoring on the phone?
Rooted. I used the manual rooted 2.3.3 odexed stock rom that was here, and flashed the radios all using clockwork.

Wiping the browser data fixed it. Not sure what happened.

same here
i'm having the same issue with the stock browser on my unrooted evo 4g. the app opens, and just before my homepage (google.com) fully loads, the app crashes. rebooting did not solve the problem for me. i'm not sure how to wipe the browser data. any suggestions?
thanks in advance.
Menu -> settings -> applications -> manage applications -> all -> internet -> clear data.
You WILL lose all bookmarks, passwords, history, etc etc.

Android Market not showing all downloaded apps in "my apps" section??

I've had this issue with the Android Market 3.1.5 (and lower) - stock 2.3.4, no root.
Usually if I get a notification that I have an app update and click on it, it takes me to the my apps section however there are only the paid apps i've bought sitting there. Not the other 90 apps that I've downloaded free.
I go and clear data and that works sometimes. And other times it doesn't. I've submitted the problem to Google but I was wondering if others see this behavior and if there are any work arounds???? It's real frustrating.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the Market. Rebooted phone, pulled battery. Even done a factory reset. This happens on my E4GT and my Evo4G.

If you restored a backup chances are market links were restored and you will have to wait for an update or unstall and reinstall the app

I have the same issue, I prefer the older market version (wich does show all my apps, and shows the updates better also), but it wont allow me to keep it from updating for some reason, even if I freeze market updater.
it always upgrades to 3.15 after a few times going into market
this has been happening to me since I got the phone. I rooted and then went back to stock kernel, which kept me rooted. I restored my titanium backup apps with data and I believe that may have something to do with it.
as soon as I see that I have updates I know I will have to go to applications and clear data and reopen and it will then show me all of my apps again.
I talked with Google's Market help today. They know about this and are trying to figure it out.

Disabling Apps ? and Caution

I like the new feature of ICS that allows you to disable apps. I used it immediately to remove the VZW bloatware that was pre installed (back up assistant).
But I may of taken it a step too far. I disabled the default calculator app ( just happen to like realcalc better). When I did that it screwed up my calendar. All of my events were MIA. Luckily I caught it before I did anything else and couldn't pinpoint the problem. - undisabled the calculator and every thing went back to normal.
So, like it says in the warning use caution when disabling system apps. And hopefully my little boo boo helps some one else out.
Anyone else disable a app and notice any strange or unexpected results???

I disabled Books, Vz backup, and phone (I'm using another dialer). So far no issues.
I also used autostarts to keep a few other apps from starting automatically all the time.

[Q] SOLVED-Apps not gone after flash?!

Ever since I've started flashing ROMs, I've become accustomed to jumping on the market and re-installing all the apps that were deleted during the wipe process. No problem really, I like the idea of a fresh install. However, oddly enough, since flashing Ev1lArt's Wicked v7 and now his JB v3 Roms, the apps from the store persist. Third party apks are still in my downloads and I can re-install them, but the ones from the market instantly start downloading and updating once the phone is done booting up.
On one hand, I think it's fantastic! No more searching the store for all the apps I want.
On the other hand I'm concerned this is an indication of something gone wrong.
If anybody has any insight, I'd be very grateful. Thanks!
Edit: Another question/afterthought. When I went from Wicked v7 (ICS) to v3 (JB) I used Odin and the root66 tar for a clean JB install. I was under the impression partitions would be re-allocated during this process, but there was no PIT file and the instructions are very clear about which boxes to check (ie, don't check re-partition). Am I missing something? Are PIT files not necessary going from ICS to JB? Also interesting to note, when I booted up after ODIN, my apps, wallpapers, Nova Launcher setup etc were all still there. I thought the point of doing a fresh ODIN install was to get the phone to an "out of the box" condition.
Am I just a worry wort? Should I just be happy that some Android magic has saved me some hassle? Thanks again.
Google is supposed to back up what was on your phone and then red download it (restore) from the play store. Downloads always stay, unless you wipe it.
When you say "wipe it", do you mean wipe data/factory reset in recovery? Cuz I always do that.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
That doesn't wipe storage/sdcard. The folders you see when you plug into a computer. Uninstalling apps also doesn't delete those folders
On some roms when you flash on the locations setup screen it will ask if you want to restore your apps from google play...if you leave it checked it well immediately start downloading your apps based off your google account...
Googles backs your data up always when flashing a new rom fireup the play store and go throught the log in thingy there will be an option that you can tick it says "keep my phone backed up whit google" simply untick and voila... its no issue at all trust me

If you are a little paranoid and want a true clean install, wipe system in recovery before you install your preferred rom. The Google restore had been hit and miss for me over the years so I stopped checking the box and relied on titanium backup. Sounds like it is working better now.

Safe bloatware to remove/frost

Hi everyone!
Can we make a list of all the bloatware that we can safely remove / Titanium freeze without ruin your OGP.
I've stopped this with the Task Manager
- AT&T Messages
- myAT&T
- YPmobile
Thanks!

You can delete some of them directly from your app drawer. Just open your app drawer hit the plus/minus sign in the top right corner and delete. I froze the rest of mine with titanium.
When the f*ck did we get ice cream??

Thanks for the reply.
I did that, but the real reason is the upcoming roms that people will custom and I think they gonna need this info for cleaning/debloating them and stuff.
=)
You won't ruin your phone, you will just have to find the stock ROM (on one of the threads here) and flash it back with LGFlash tool. The obvious ones to remove would be anything AT&T Related using Root Uninstaller if rooted. Also any obvious apps that are preinstalled such as Polaris and Kindle can be removed if chosen too. I also removed all Tests (Bluetooth Test, Wifi Test, etc) Its pretty simple to know what to remove and not to.

Yes, they hang low

I've had issues with those apps and I dint know why. Whenever I removed the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi test apps, my phone freezes for 5-10 minutes on boot. Whenever I put them back, its fine again.
Happened on the original firmware and the new one. I've went all the way back to stock too.
