The phones will support it Just fine. You have to format it and Max file size is limited to just 4gigs, I believe.
Solid card, i have the 16gb version of that and the speeds are insane, def a step up from my class 4 sd card

Yes, yes, but it's still quite odd; you don't often hear about manufacturers/carriers underestimating their own devices.
In other words, has anyone actually tried filling a 64GB card to max capacity with data on the phone itself? Or is it only addressing the first 32GB like I would expect? Just because the card happens to be readable doesn't mean it's actually fully working like it should, so I'd still be wary about landing the money on a 64GB card for a phone that Sprint claims supports up to only 32GB.
If it *is* only addressing the first 32GB, then the only remotely possible option to get the full 64GB capacity is to re-partition the external SD as two 32GB (roughly; probably a little less) partitions. However, that's a *very* big "if" as to whether or not that actually works, since SD cards (and other flash-based external memory devices like USB thumbdrives) are designed (and expected) to have only one large partition. Similarly, you'd have to do some serious modding to get both partitions mounted (if the phone's card reader itself isn't the limitation).
In all likelihood, even that above solution would probably not work due to hardware/firmware limitations. This is similar to giving older computers big hard drives; even though the hard drive will certainly be usable, many older BIOSes are incapable of accessing anything beyond a certain capacity (in the case of an old Compaq laptop I have, that limit would be 10GB).
tl;dr: don't assume that the ability to mount the SD card automatically means all the space on it is accessible from the phone.

It's never ALL accessible whether it's supported or not whether it's computer phone or any device. Making two partitions would have you lose even more space and isn't necessary, once card is formatted to FAT32 it WILL work people.

I have been thinking alot about getting a new card.But after I looked more into it 32gb is a max. I could really not use up 64 gb unless I am loading it up with my girl's Disney movies and Transformers G1 episodes.
With 16gb internal and 32gb ext. that would be more than adequate,cause most of the time i am transferring data back to my PC. Especially backups and ROMS.

64 gb works perfectly in my phone, all you have to do is format it once through and bam double the max of what the box says, the extra space is well worth it
What class SD is it? I am curious if it truely makes a difference between class 6 and class 10. Never saw any comparisons on them.

I think you misunderstood what I'm saying. Splitting into two partitions will create some overhead with additional file allocation tables and partition data, sure, but it's nothing compared to losing half of your card's capacity because the device you're using the card on isn't capable of addressing past the 32GB mark. There's a difference between "it'll work" and "it'll work correctly", and in this case that difference is 32GB of potentially-inaccessible capacity.
So, I reiterate: has anyone verified that the phone is capable of reading and writing to the entire capacity of the card? Does it recognize the card's capacity to be 64GB (or something close)? Does writing more than 32GB worth of files actually work, or does the operation fail (or worse, overwrite data)? I'll see if I can get my hands on one of these cards so I can perform this kind of test, but until someone confirms this, it would be wise to maintain some healthy skepticism, lest you buy a fancy 64GB card just to figure out that it works no better than a 32GB card.

It has been verified by a few users in this thread already as well as others. Read a bit of this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1799634(as long as it is an actual SanDisk card then there is no reason to worry) it will work.

Like the title says, I'm curious to see how many people actually wanted this function. I was a bit disappointed when I heard about the lack of removable memory, but I lust after this phone. I do have a 16GB card that's near capacity. I haven't cleaned it out in a while, so I'll do that first. Hopefully 16GB will be enough for me. But I digress, this isn't a rant about how the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have removable memory. This thread is more about seeing the percentage of people who did want this function.
I did want it, just like I wanted it on the NS. But I understand that I don't NEED removable storage and will be buying the GN the first chance I get. And given the choice, I'll probably go with a 16GB version, because I still have about 4GB of free space on my NS.
I really wanted an sdcard slot on it. I will have to import the phone as the 32GB versions as there seems to be no current plans to sell that version in Sweden according to Samsung themselves. 32GB is minimum for me. I had hoped to be able to get a 32 GB version and then plug in my 32 GB microsd for even more storage.
Wanted it, but mostly because i got a 32GB MicroSD card already
All of my storage is wasted on nandroids anyway.
The lack of the card slot (which even my Nexus One has) is a real shame - it would only have cost a few pence to include a card slot unless there is something I have missed. The slot would have been preferred to the barometer by the vast majority of people - if we had to choose one or the other.
If they were releasing the 32GB in the UK i wouldn't have wanted an SD slot as that would be enough for me. But as we're only getting the 16GB for whatever reason i would want an SD.
As they're not doing either i'll have to stay with my GS2.
i know i'm having issues with my card slot and/or SD card on my Fascinate. It'll say my SD card is ejected when it's not. I'm starting to think the omission of a card slot isn't so bad.. less moving parts = less things to break? lol
Not too bothered about it at all, never take my card out of the current phone.

I was a little upset about no SD at first, but then realized that I haven't taken the card out of my N1 since I first got the phone and used it to transfer stuff to the new phone...easy enough to do with a USB and 5 minutes.
Only thing that bums me out is I basically can't get the 16GB because if I run out of space I'm hosed.

Besides stuff that needs to be on the phone, almost everything (music, docs, photos) are in the cloud for me.

You are totally missing the point of the sdcard slot. The biggest advantage is being able to upgrade the amount of storage if you need it. The fact that it costs next to nothing now makes it even better. Also, a less used upside is the ability to read it even if your phone stops turning on at all.
To me, the best solution would be to have lots of internal storage but still have the option of an sdcard for extra storage for movies, lossless audio and other big files if the user wanted. I would be totally fine with it being used entirely for user storage. Any form of cache files that are currently stored on the sdcard probably belongs on the internal memory.

Well you got a small screen so movies shouldnt be large in size and phones probably aren't the best devices to playback lossless audio to make a difference audibly.
I'm pro SD card though but really you just slap a large one in there and forget about it. I do use it as a quick medium to transfer custom roms and kernels to my buddies... pictures to my gf... etc. Seemed transfers were faster directly using the SD card vs going through the phone... but with the cloud and wireless transfer methods, its a mute point.
Most stuff can be in the cloud such as pictures and music and even nandroid backups (only need a few locally). I keep games/apps/wallpapers locally but those could even go to the cloud. As long as I can download them when I need them. And you don't need to have a whole movie collection on you at all times. Just a few throwbacks for travels.

But with that "issue" u could be creating false memory and saving stuff not on ur SD card. This phone does come with internal memory I believe 32 gb or 16gb so u could have a total of 96 gb in ur pocket!!! I only have 80gb haha

Well, i can proudly say that im a holder of my new 64 gig plus SGS3 phone, well technically its a 64 gig, its actually packing a 16 gig internal memory, modication made thanks to the sd2internaltosdexternal. i was able to swap my 16 gig to my 64 gig, and made my phone think that its actually using a 64 gig internal memory, never looked back, im a happy camper. I got the 64 gig mobile ultra class 10 memory card, its actually runing faster and smoother then the internal one does, ive tested it with speeds of 13-17+ write, read 35+, it averages thought, so yeah ure phone can support upto 2 terrabytes thanks to the SDXC chip support ure phone has (SDXC is new technology thats able to pack large amount of data into one single device big or small without loss of memory maximum capacity of 2 terrabytes), so regardless if u can where to have a 2 terrabyte microsd card which prob wont happen until 5 years from now, ure phone should be able to read it on the exception u can actually get it to work by partitioning ure sd card either in fat32/or extfat.
I had one... Then flashed cm10 and it corrupted it. Some roms don't format it so keep an eye out. Have a dead sd card now

just pop the card out put it in a usb reader and reformat it in windows its VERY unlikely that a flashing could actually "break" a sd card.

That is very much correct, flashing won't damage ure sdcard, it can corrupt the software to read it but easily fixed by reformatting through windows or third party format. Only time an sd card gets damaged and goes dead is when the sd card is unable to take excessive heat from ure phone, short circuits, or are fake sdcard which are lots of them out-there, all which will defect easily or through what I mentioned.
well not entirely true. usually the sd card can "take" more heat than the phone can (they are tough little buggers) IT IS possible to software damage them. they have an electronic "bit flip" inside some of them to set read only state.
We have these wee little 808 spy camera's we use on airplanes and rockets. some sandisk cards particularly can have this bitflip occur if power is "interupted" violently to the SD card. the card enter permanent read only mode and no one has figured out a way to fix them short of sending them back to sandisk for warranty replacement.
but this is highly unlikely to happen in an android phone in fact we think this is particular to the the way the firmware in the camera "accesses" the cards ie its doing it goofy which results in that bitflip or whatever it is
just get a reader and reformat the card you should be fine.

Again that's why I said that it's not likely that the phone will damage the sdcard if it's a lagit card..... Specially if it is a fake sdcard it will get damage easily under heat that the phone would be able to take.... Now flashing isn't known to damage sd cards but short circuits that a phone can make will.... It has enough to current to damage it.

When are they going to release the 64 GB Galaxy Note 2 ? At least when Apple say that there is a 64 GB version, we actually see it in real life.
If Samsung is not going to release it, why even announce that there is a 64 GB version. Samsung may as well say that there is a 16/32/64/128/256 GB version of the Galaxy Note 2 during its event to make it look good.
Gn2 forums state Samsung isn't going to bother with the 64, and likely focus on the 16 only.

Even if you don't believe everything posted in a forum, considering that the 64GB S3s are just now slowly starting to trickle out in Europe, I wouldn't be optimistic on that ever happening.
Wait toss doesn't have 64? Kidding, but maybe the onboard chip coukd be removed and replaced with a 64gb model. Couple of guys I work with could do it and they have the tools. Probably safer to put a 64gb class 10 microsd in it. Maybe in a year, after warranty is out, I'll have them take a stab at it.

I would imagine that a class 10 64GB card would not be a good idea as a replacement to the built-in 16GB flash; I think the onboard flash is higher speed than any SD card we would install, even if you could get the Note II's storage controller and such to recognize the new chip properly, and do the connections properly.

Try this, it will switch your external sd card to your internal sd card. So if you have a 64gb card you can essentially have a 64gb samsung note 2.

How are things running? The internal storage on the note 2 is about triple the speed of an extreme sd card running at 95mb/s. Note 2 internal read write is just over 220 mb/s. If you use a class 10 sd card, those are only 25-30mb/s. If your playing games with huge loads like Nova 3 or move huge amounts of video/photos, it's likely going to take a huge hit to speed if you use the SD card as internal storage.
It's like desktop PCs - many people use smaller ssds for the OS and the bigger but often slower drives for heavy storage. In this case then internal is like an ssd and the SD card is like a data drive.
Can you compare the transfer rate while moving a big video to and from the internal memory compared to moving the same video to the SD card mounted as the internal drive? Curious as to your results.

Iphone doesn't have ability to add an sd card to expand storage. The note II supports up to 64gb in addition to the built in 16gb. What other phone available has this kind of storage?

My point is not that iphone has better storage or not. What I want to say is Samsung stated that there is a 64 GB version of the Galaxy Note 2 and they don't release it at the same time as the release of the 16 GB. Apple actually release the 16/32/64 GB at the same time.
The funny thing is, Samsung actually can make its own flash memory. It does not have to depend on another company.

To be honest i cant tell of any difference in speed in day to day use. Apps load fine and just as fast as the internal sd. The core apps and Stock Rom are installed on the ram, so there wouldnt be any difference really with using the device. As for transferring videos back and forth i haven't really done and tests, but than again i would always store larger media files on the 64gb sd anyway. I do highly recommend this mod especially for someone looking for more capacity. i had this mod on my gs3 and no problems then, and i have no problems now. If anyone is holding out for the 64gb note 2 just look at the gs3 situation. You have to remember you arent removing the internal sd they are just swapped for each other in the OS. So the internal is now the external. Both are accessible just like normal.
I'm running a 64GB microSDXC and it's just fine and dandy. I agree they shouldn't announce it and then not have it available though.

If anyone is holding out for the 64gb note 2 just look at the gs3 situation. You have to remember you arent removing the internal sd they are just swapped for each other in the OS. So the internal is now the external. Both are accessible just like normal.

I ran this mod with a 64gb sandisk class 10. Works flawlessly, no difference that I can tell. Its stable and awesome.

yup the mod is definitely awesome, seriously have to love the xda developers and what they can accomplish on android.
So no issue with game speed? I had to uninstall about 4 games cause my memory was down to 1.65gb. This is the only reason I am thinking of really rooting right now

You should never be worried about the internal memory size - even 8GB should be enough, AS LONG AS the phone comes with EXTERNAL SD CARD SLOT WHICH ACCEPTS LARGE SD CARDS. Having the external SD card is NOT necessarily about expanding your storing capacity (although a 64GB does that generously) but rather about having your information safe, significantly less prone to accidental formatting/erasing. Most of the time when you do a factory reset your internal storage is also formatted - do you want that to happen when you stored tons of important information? Of course not!! Worried about read/write speed? Buy a high quality, class 10 external SD card and I promise you won't see any drop in speed. Only use the internal storage for files that the system really looks for and requires to be placed inhere - otherwise, EVERYTHING else, especially large media files, backups and personal files should be kept onto the EXTERNAL SD Card. There are tons of advantages doing so and all those messages companies like Apple, HTC (newly adopted this stupid model), or others alike who try to influence and convince you that external SD cards are obsolete & cloud storage is better, all that is simply marketing BS. Buy Samsung because they didn't aligned themselves to the BS, because you can have a super generous 16GB internal storage and up to 64GB external storage. Do you need more than 80GB on the go? Then reconsider...really! Maybe you shouldn't download all the internet today, leave some for tomorrow when they'll make you pay for all that "free" cloud storage that you kept cramming onto today. Be open minded, understand how things work and do what's good for YOU not for the big corporations!
Several game loft games and the internal storage is gone... some people do that ya know

Yes, you can. You can get one from any of the trusted companies, just search for the one with the best price. Also make sure you get a class 6 or class 10. It's going to be expensive for a 64 GB class 6/10, but if you're going for such a high capacity card then you should definitely get one with a higher class rating. Class rating is nothing but the minimum write speed that the card can achieve. You can see the difference while transferring large files. If you get a class 2 or class 4, your write speeds will be low. Imagine transferring ~58.5 GB (which is the actual capacity you'll get with a 64 GB card) at such low speeds. It'll take forever. The microSD cards that come shipped with phones are usually class 2 or at best class 4. It's always better to get a higher class because the performance will be better, especially during large file transfers and when the phone is accessing the SD card.
According to your phone's specifications on gsmarena, it supports cards up to 64 GB, so there's no problem of compatibility.

sdhc just means it goes up to 32gb
sdxc starts at 64gb
the 64gb microsdxc will work in the s3... i got mine from amazon for like 40 bucks when it went on sale. great investment
Ok perfect. One last question....
My sgs3 is the 16 gb but after I opened it there is no card in the slot. Im guessing that means I have been using stock internal???? When I purchase a 64 gig I put that in the empty slot... will I have 64 + 16?

The Sandisk 64gb SDXC it's working well for me over the past month. I did follow the recommendations of formatting it as FAT32. The read/write speed of this card is much much faster than SDHC. Look for specials on this card. Got mine from tiger direct for $49 about a month ago shipped free. Just looked on Amazon and see the price is now $49.
That said, I have had issues with older/slower Sandisk cards failing on two occasions in the past. Sandisk will swap them out but it's a pain.

I use a Sandisk 64GB but didnt format it to FAT32, so i can use files bigger than 4GB, no problems so far i had it for like 5 months

and use only FAT32 partition. should i format it in any other way? and what partitions should i have?

Just put the card in your phone, go to Settings>Storage and format it there. Also, the Galaxy S3 supports the exFAT format, which allows for single files larger than 4GB to be stored. Fat32 has a 4GB limitation. You can also get a card reader for your computer, put this card in it and format it just like you would do for a flash drive. You can either format it as Fat32 or exFAT, as both will work. Depends on your usage i.e. if you plan to keep files larger than 4GB (like HD movies). Since you got such a huge card I figure that's your purpose anyway, so format it as exFAT. If you're using Windows, do a quick format rather than a full format (will take forever).

There are some kernel that supports exfat. You can just flash the kernel.
Not that it matters much, or maybe it will. I bought this one for my phone, also have it in my DSLR. It's a class 10 card which means it's super fast. Allows me to record 1080p HD video on my camera with no lag. So I picked one up for my phone as well. Bit smaller storage space than what you wanted, but I have never come close to filling it.

Ok so I received my new 'Samsung 64GB Class 10 UHS-1 Grade 1 70MB/s MicroSDHC Pro Memory Card' in the post today to go with my shiny new S4. After I mounted it, the phone was reading available storage on it at about 59.9gb which I thought was of to a great start. However after running a few tests with a few different apps on the market, I wasnt getting the read write results I expected. At best was 31mb writing and 28mb resding on a 428mb filesize. I expected closer to 70mb/s. Could it be a faulty card or even possibly a fake?

I will do that. Hopefully it is not however if it isnt it certainly seems to be under preforming imo. It looks genuine and was bought of amazon but not direct from amazon themselves. Thanks

The advertisement of 70 MB/s is probably if you are using it to move files onto/from a Windows machine with the SD card set on Caching mode (Best Performance mode, under hardware, performance). The speeds you are getting seem legit, especailly regarding the file size. Try moving more, smaller, files and see how many you get. For example, move a 50 MB file, then a 100 MB file. But in the end, you might not be right because the S4 could be the lag here too.
Got a reply from Samsung and the cards legit. Starting to think you could right about speeds based on transferring onna windows based system. Either way, it isnt causing me any problems and the cards reliable. Just wanted to make sure it wasnt a fake because I payed £45 for it lol

SDXC cards are by default formatted as ExFAT. Plug it into a windows machine and reformat it to ExFAT, just in case.
If you still have speed problems, then try formatting to FAT32.
I get poor benchmark results using SD Tools but get around 65mbps and 20mbps speeds while transferring files from a computer.
