htc cutting their smartphones prices????!!! - HTC One X

wtf is that right htc cutting their phone prices because off the losses? i just bought the one x 2 monthes ago for about 600$ in asia! really stunned !

No idea if this is true but it makes sense, they are competing with alot of new phones at the moment (and coming up, like the iPhone 5) and yes bad economical times too for HTC, to keep up with the competition > lower prices.

Ya ..One X will be down to half n so does One S n One V will be given away for free with every Beats Headphones u buy..

may be as its leaked by a Chinese source
http://www.phonearena.com/news/HTC-...ower-entry-tags-for-upcoming-handsets_id33570

well do you know what i am going to do i am going to sell it out now when it's still got it's high price and get the s3! what i should have done in the first place still hate that amoled and touchwiz but still it's better phone! thx for your replies evreyone i am not saying that the hox is a bad phone but....!

If you read the source story the liklihood of it being true are slim. Since when does a site called "mydrivers" suddenly become credible? The bad press and rumor mongering are going to hurt HTC more than anything they do at their own hand.
http://translate.google.com/transla...://news.mydrivers.com/1/238/238621.htm#ystfuv

Even of it's true so what? You already bought the phone and I don't know about you but I think I am gonna use the phone for a while and judging by how android phones have been sooner or later the price is gonna go down anyway because there will be newer phones with better specs sold for the same price we bought our phones awhile ago.
Sometimes I don't get the way you kids think SMH :what:

You hate the screen which takes 90% of the phone, hate touchwiz, which defines the way you interact with the phone but still think S3 is better... that makes sense. Or at least explains why you trust that source.
Let's get real. If there are some price cuts they will be for the Chinese version (HTC did say they will bet on the Asian market) which means locked bootloaders, internet limited to the Chinese version and all the other goodies the Chinese will make HTC include in the phone. Thanks, but no thanks!

Thats bull****, halving the price?
Why should we have to pay 500£ when they decide?
But when they cant sell them at that they half it?
WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF MY MONEY?!?!?!?!?!

haha man i ported the touchwiz 5 of the s3 to my one x to try the latest version off touchwiz and since i did it i was really frustrated sense crushes! touchwiz removed touchwiz off my htc and get back to sense with the shinny super lcd2 screen but the thing that i loved about the s3 is those features smart stay-direct call-palm for screenshot and when you tap twice on the screen from the top it gets you to the top off screen! if some one knows how i could get them and keep sense please help thx! i stayed with the one x and i'm really happy i don't care about the prices i already bought the phone thx for your replies everyone!!

They can sell them for what they want. It's an electronic gadget, they always always drop in price over time. Who in their right mind would be a) surprised & b) angry over this?

I don't understand why anyone would expect them not to cut the price. When I got my hTC Desire, it had to be on a £36+/month contract to be free. Just 6 months later, it was on £20 contracts and the One X is going that way. All phones do, they're never 'current' for very long, it's just something you have to accept when buying electronics these days. Next year, all the midrange phones will have quad core CPUs and HD screens, the the year after, a £99 network operator-rebranded ZTE will. It's a _good_ thing. Don't complain about being an early adopter, it's your choice to make.
Ask yourself this: While you may be able to purchase the phone, or an equivalent phone for less money now, surely you couldn't at the time you bought it? Are you not happy you've been able to use it until now?

when it was first launched, in UAE it was like DHS 2750 and after a month its DHS 2500 and stayed like that for 3 more months, now its around DHS 2300-2400. Thats normal for every phone i've got and even the s3 is around the same price now as well.

What to do with a broken ribbon cable...

Well, sadly, today I have broken the ribbon cable on the phone connecting to the screen the screen still appears but will not take input... The big question now is, is it fixable, and if so do I bother?
If not should I try to buy a used DZ or just go for a new phone? What do you guys think?
Then of course if it's a new phone that begs the question.... which one XD haha dam this sucks :/
What do you guys predict will be a highly supported phone by developers of those coming out these days? I want a higher end phone but I also more than that want it to be used by others
This happened to me with my g1. About this late in the game. Bought a used one on Ebay for parts. I also had my g2 out in heavy rain recently on the golf course. 70 to fix the water damage and get a new battery at a cell phone store. They have the parts.
New phone hercules or skyrocket or galaxy nexus depending on your carrier. I'm partial to the hercules. Development is picking up considerably.

What is the other name for the hercules? Also I'm considering the Sensation as it is a good phone and has some nice support and it's been out for awhile... But still looking also considering non-htc phones haha cause I barely use sense anymore anyways
Also should I try to wait until these new phones from MWC are out? I would like one with ICS XD
The Galaxy Nexus would be a no-brainer if it weren't for the fact that it doesn't have an SD-card slot :/ that's where I feel they messed up terribly..
Tmobile samsung galaxy s 2. Or the funny numbers at the bottom of my post.

Though first I'm going to be seeing if I can send this phone in for repair... I am under a year, but it's gonna be a lot of work restoring it stock and then if I get it back returning to rooted ><

Thanks haha you think that the SGS2 will be a strong phone for awhile to come? You think development will last as long as it has on the Desire Z?
I found one that is apparently "Fairly good" condition for 300... if there's nothing wrong with the screen I may jump on it haha
I think the htc one s is going to be a really good phone that will last u a long time. It comes out in april so u gotta wait a little longer but its got the new dual core 1.5ghz s4 snapdragon processor which competes and even outdoes the tegra 3 in some categories. I know that its still not the top of the line like the one x which only at&t is getting but its still amazing. Also its got a sick new camera check it out on engadget. It comes with sense 4.0 but u can just get cm9 for a pure ics experience
Edit: just read ur comment about no sd card. Unfortunately this doesn't have one either but I think the one s has 16gb internal could be 32 look it up BUT it does have a free dropbox service for 2 years giving u an additional 25gbs

Yea the one s definitely looks VERY appealing but its a bit expensive and a large problem is the wait time :/ I mean I guess I could try... XD But if they don't replace this phone I'm not going to be able to wait for that as I'll need one now for every day.
Yeah quite frankly if I can hold out I think I would definitely go for the one s or one x, actually the X seems a little TOO big for me, sadly though does have a lot more storage and that bigger battery :/

That smaller battery in one s doesn't make a difference b/c it has a smaller display and a lower res (not true 720p) than the one x. Screen takes a huge amount of power that's y the battery is a little bigger in one x. I even thought the 4.3 was a little big lol my bro has the nexus s and I don't think I would want a display bigger than that. Not sure how much the price will be tho, maybe $250?? Newer high-end phones are breaking that $200 bar we're all used to. Honestly if I was u I would try and wait for a newer phone (i.e. one series) if ur gonna shell out a lot of money cuz the new specs in a month or so are gonna far out date anything that's out now.

Yeah I think I'm pretty much sold on the One S, and yeah I realize that the smaller screen will mean less battery use but just not sure on if it would account for all of it
However early rumours of the costs of the phones are putting them in the range of 700$ :/ I REALLY hope they are wrong! Anything under 600$ I think I would buy the One S
Yeah the 4.3 might be large but I think I'd be able to get used to it, especially with how pretty those 4.3 inches are
So I figured I'd update. I sent the phone in after reverting to stock, but, I have to wait up to a month to get it back, and they were low on loaner phones so I have a 2 year old windows 6.5 phone >< garbage! Supposed to give me an android! So, I called customer support, and after a bit of talking and such, they gave me 75$ towards the HTC one s !

I fixed my two g2's. Takes like 15 mins, just remember where the different screws where and don't cut the ribboncable for the keyboard when you open the phone.
Because that ****'s expensive

RUMOR: T-Mobile to get HTC One X?

We know about the One S, but One X? Discuss...
http://androidandme.com/2012/02/sma...e-to-get-stock-android-4-0-and-quad-core-cpu/
While it would be so SO awesome if we got the X, I'm having a hard time believing that we would get it with stock Android. Then again, the point about quad and HSPA makes sense.
If this turns out to be true I am in. Still depends if tmobile gets the next iphone or a nokia windows phone. Been thinking of trying something different. But an HTC phone with aosp again would be awesome.

T-Mobile won't get the iPhone it cost simply to much just to get it. It really put a hit on Verizon when they got it. I don't see it happening.

there's not much difference between the X, S, or even the amaze to warrant an upgrade so soon. Just out of curiosity, what could a phone do that the amaze can't do? speaking aside from aesthetics. and S-OFF

That's been my argument all along also. Aside from AOSP ROMs, we will have everything (esp when ics drops). And now that we have dual core cpus, we can actually run sense roms with no lag and plenty of free RAM still. A few new devs for mods, themes, etc would be nice, but we have a nice variety of 3.0 ROMs, a 3.5 ROM, another 3.5 port coming soon, and a dev working on ics. What else? Not to forget, team Revolutionary will soon have a donated Amaze to try and get a $1k pledge for getting s=off.
I say this phone is in a better position than people make it out to be.

Well I think its kind of dumb because LTE doesn't work with quad core, if tmo were to get the one x, it will be a waste for next year because next year tmo will have LTE

We wonder where all the money is and why no once can hire or do anything. Could it be company's like Apple. Worth 500 billion today. Which means they are worth more than Greece by a long shot and just over the value of Poland as well. These are whole countries with GNP and citizens. Obviously something is wrong if someone can put that much money away. How about putting some of that to use in the global economy Apple???

im sure you wouldnt even need to root the phone lol, nvidia supports all its hardware, still supports hardware that is years old back to the GT series.. tegra will be supported for a long time since they are in tablets and heading towards phones
The rumor says that the One X will be branded G4X, I'm really hoping that's the case. I'm trying to hold off on renewing contract until May, when it's possible that they will announce something like this at the CTIA.
Now that the LTE version is dubbed the XL, I really think we have a shot at this. I've been holding out with my G2 for awhile now because T-Mo hasn't gotten anything worth upgrading to. Recently replaced a myTouch 3G for a SGS II and wasn't impressed much. However, the specs and knowing it already has a home on XDA alone makes me ready to part ways.
T-mobile is not getting the HTC One X, the are getting the One S. AT&T will be getting the X. Which sucks because it is the better of the two.

Yea banging my head, no one in his right mind would switch from the One X to the iPhone 5
Screen is our equal but we have better blacks and bigger
Cameras are match but we have the fast burst mode and super HDR, i5 wins in extreme macro and video recording but has the purple haze issue
We actually win the build quality area due to their super fragile thin paint
Battery is better iPhone on during average use, half an hour difference in heavy gaming
Current iOS on the i5 have many bugs like our early firmware
Finally the x2 will come in February and we have a much better value for money especially considering storage
U want to try iOS go for the new iPad4, will cost u half lol

It's like religion. If you ask your current religion if you should stay you'll get a resounding "yes" along with a million reasons as to why. If you ask the religion you are considering moving to if you should convert you'll get a resounding "yes" with a million reasons as to why. It's your religion, you pick.
You really can’t go wrong with Apple. They’re great products but with more confinement, more expensive content, and less flexibility. When my non-technical friends ask me what they should buy I hand them my phone or tablet and watch them try to figure it out. If after a minute they’re still staring at the device blankly I tell them to go Apple.

dont ruin it barryyyyyy
well i'm contemplating the new iPad myself, if i want to spend that money i rather buy the iPad and keep my One X
so no my advice was not zealous
my wife recently traveled abroad and staying there for a while, i started relying on my N7 for video/voice calls with her and then it hit me, no apple product will ever match android multitasking especially on a quad core processor
i would be talking with my wife, sending her files, browsing and downloading apps all in the same time effortlessly moving between them, i dont think iOS will ever get there
whats more important is how easy it is to handle it with one hand and use it
its funny but more n more i realize the Nexus 7 in particular is Google's hardware masterpiece, i can clearly tell you its the only Nexus they ever released with enough personality
my point is im interested retry iOS myself with the iPad but man i can't let go of freedom

well i'm contemplating the new iPad myself, if i want to spend that money i rather buy the iPad and keep my One X
so no my advice was not zealous
my wife recently traveled abroad and staying there for a while, i started relying on my N7 for video/voice calls with her and then it hit me, no apple product will ever match android multitasking especially on a quad core processor

You have 14 days to return an apple product so you could get the iPad 4 and return it if you dislike it.

[Q] How old is your HOX, when will you buy a new phone & why?

The title says it all.
My HOX is 6 months old and I plan to buy a new phone in 1.5 years. The reason for that is the fact that I'll be buying my first tablet this year It's definitely going to be a Windows 8 ( Not RT!) tablet, and those are kind of pricy. If I had the money to upgrade my phone too, I think I would wait anyway.
My HOX is pretty good or the stuff I use it for, and saying that you NEED (not want) an upgrade from a quad-core 1.5ghz 6 months old phone is just silly.
What do you think?
PS. Please write which phone you plan to buy next
Felt cheated with the sudden announcement of X+ now happy with my note 2!
htc history
Knowing HTC, I will wait for a device that launches later in the year. Gives them more time to "fix" any "disappointments" that usually come with their initial offerings. Considered Butterfly, but the improvements are negligible for my needs. In America, it will probably be relaunched as DNA PLUS EXTRA CHROMOSOMES.

I truly think a 5 inch phone is too big.
I am 6" 2 with hands to match and i can barely operate my ONE x with a single hand.
If i do buy a new phone, it sure as hell wont be more than 4.7 inches.
So i would probably hold out until such a phone comes out to my specifications
Well my HOX is 9 months old. I will plan to buy a replacement when there is a new HTC device with big improvement and specs. Like when I had my HTC Desire, I changed phone only when HOX launched (big improvements in term of specs).

Yea, I think that I could go to 4.8 and that's it. Especially with Android because you have to alternate between the top (notifications, toggles) and bottom (buttons) all the time.

Well, you get some pretty funky sights in this part of the world, with people holding their iPads to their ear to make a call. Rowan Atkinson once said a banana isn't funny until you enlarge it.
Mine is almost 8 months old, still happy with it.
I'm gonna wait with buying a new phone untill I bought my first car this year (turning 18 ), and I know that a BMW will be damn pricy

My hox is from April 2012......i am intending to keep it for 2 years, my HTC desire also survived 2.4 years so i think i can manage. Or there has to be a new top notch phone brought on the market !
Greetings
Mr Hofs
My hox is 6 months old. I replaced it with a note 2, 3 months ago. Haha. Still kept the hox as an mp3 player.
I find the note 2 easy one handed. Im 5ft 4 and can type one handed and reach every corner except the top left

I'm waiting for the phone calls to start......due my upgrade in 6 days, be funny to see what Vodafone/Dialaphone offer me as an "upgrade"!!
I may just let the contract run the 12 months then take a sim only deal for a while until something decent comes out. Or may even just grab another phone to sell on

I've had my phone since the first day I could get my hands on it.
I'm likely to buy the next one the first day I can get my hands on it.
I like the size of this, so it'll be something similar but based on quad Cortex A15. Looks like it'll be full HD, although I'm not sure I'll be able to tell the difference.
Really what I want is a desktop monitor with much greater PPI (that doesn't cost the earth), how does it make sense for a 4.7" display to have the same resolution as a 24" display?

Buy vzw HTC ONE now or wait for the nexus 5?

Hey all-
I am in the middle of a dilemma, I currently own a VZW galaxy nexus and it is on its last leg. The battery is shot, takes forever to connect calls, and is slow. I have been trying to baby it till the nexus 5 comes out but it is so annoying using a phone that is slow. I have been looking into the HTC one (my previous phone was the HTC incredible and I loved it). But I cant decide if I should try and wait for the N5? I understand that the HTC One as of now cannot achieve S-off/Root, but I am assuming it is only a matter of time till developers crack it.(thank you to all the great developors on XDA!) so what would you do in my situation? Wait for the N5 or go with the One?
I am really drawn to the one for the metal body and the new sense seems pretty nice, IMHO the S4 is to gimmiky.

Who's to say that the Nexus 5 is coming to Verizon unless you plan on switching carriers.. You weren't really clear on that aspect. There is a great deal of new devices that are coming out soon which should make for an exciting fall and Q4..
Also on a side note never buy a device with the assumption that the developer community will unlock, root, s-off the device you plan to buy. With devices coming out so frequently and OEMs becoming smarter with the way they are locking down their devices it's a game of cat and mouse or hit or miss if you will......
I recently purchased the HTC One just because it's an amazing device, that is with the hopes the the real deal hackers crack the bootloader to achieve s-off, unlock, root etc...
Right now I am in the same boat. I have waited this long what's another month or two to see what the Nexus 5 has in store?
Yes it may mean changing carriers which sucks but Verizon has done everything to sabotage the htc one (4 months late, no black model, quickly locking it down) that they no longer deserve my business...
So I will wait to see what the fall phones bring before making a decision at this point.
As soon as you wait for one device to arrive, another ridiculous phone is right around the corner. It's an endless cycle.
I was in the same boat. HTC Incredible > Galaxy Nexus > ? I considered the Nexus 5 but between the solid rumors it is going to be an LG (my least favorite oem) and the fact VZW let the N4 pass it by I opted to go with the HTC One.
Got it day 2 expecting to unlock it. No such luck but not having root after coming from a Gnex has not been a big deal. The HTC One is sooo awesome compared to the Gnex. The only things I miss from root/roms is long press back button kill (more of a habit than an issue), some of the Sense screens (Like the battery usage screen). They are such picky things I have no regrets moving to the One.
Did I mention that while my Gnex needed 1 to 2 charges throughout the day to make it to bedtime but the one can stay off the charger and with similar usage has 40% left. With heavy usage I got to 14% once after 16 hours on battery. Battery and sluggishness drove me to a new phone and I am glad it was the HTC One.
I agree with all of you, however I plan on staying with vzw.... What phones other than the n5 are coming out? There is the new lg buy I cannot stand the volume rocker on the back....is there any other phones that have been confirmed to be with big red?

Yeah I would assume the Note 3 would most likely come to Verizon as well being that it is the primary and most popular phablet to date..
Nexus 5 definitely won't show up on Verizon. The only other great phone left this year on Verizon will likely be the G2. That looks to be even more powerful than the HTC One and a larger screen. I don't care for it because its LG and their android skin is horrendous. I also could never get a plastic phone after having an HTC One. Its your call though of course!
I've sort of stopped playing the "should I get it or wait?" game because the smartphone market has just become so insane. Once you get a phone, a newer, better one is right around the corner. I got the HTC One knowing the bootloader got locked up, and I'm really enjoying it...even stock it's nice. I mean, I can't wait to put other roms on it, but nevertheless, it's awesome.
I also had a similar smartphone trajectory. OG Droid -> DInc-> GNex
In April I bought the S4, but really wanted The One. So last week I sold my s4 on craigslist and bought The One. It is fantastic as is. My contract is finally up in December, and coincidentally my discount expired this month. So if the N5 comes out and looks substantially better than The One, I will sell The One on swappa or craigslist or ebay. My point is go ahead and buy the phone, if you want something newer in the future you can always sell it and get another phone, though you may take a small loss. The One is amazing and although 6 months old I can hardly believe it will feel "outdated" in even a year....
encyvrs providence
I would stop waiting and just get the one. I came from the GNexus and the one is better in every way. faster, better screen, better battery, better speakers and sound etc.
My thought is that if there is a phone out I want I'll get it vs waiting. If you decide to wait for the next best thing you'll never get a phone. They come out so fast now.
sent from my blue police box flying through time.....
Thanks for all of your responses! I think I am going to go ahead and get the one! I am in the design industry and I have been waiting for a beautiful android and the one is it! Going out this week and getting it,
The N5 will most likely not be anywhere near Verizon/Sprint so might as well get a One.

I would get a one now if it has the nokia microphones and I think they still carry this feature. One HTC runs out of stock for these you probably won't see them in any other device in the future other than windows phones since microsoft is buying nokia. I listened to a few comparison videos on youtube and those microphones make a huge difference in recording capability. Htc ones with these mics will probably have high resale value later on down the road.

I bought the one...it was nice. I returned it and am waiting for the Moto X to hit retail stores so I can Czech it out. I like as stock of an Android experience as possible, and the X looks like the best choice in that dept.
With the One, the build is awesome, the screen is great and the front facing speakers are amazing. The overlay I didn't care for (icons still remind me of my 2.2 Thunderbolt) and I thought the camera was terrible (even in direct comparison to my aging S3).
But, I think right now it's at least in the top 2 phones on Verizon, and I don't think you can go wrong with it.
