Looking for the right kind of screen protector - Galaxy S III Accessories

Hey all, just updated my old AT&T Captivate (the original Galaxy S) to the new SIII. I used to use the AT&T branded crystal clear screen protectors, but they don't seem to have them for the SIII as far as I can tell. I'm trying to find a screen protector that will function the same way.
It needs to have a clear finish (no matte finish or privacy)
It needs to be the harder type of plastic, not the stretchy stuff like Invisishield.
It needs to not be a cheap knockoff that produces lots of bubbles (I've tried those on previous phones)
Anyone have any recommendations? If they are sold on Amazon that's a plus too, as I have a giftcard there!

There's a ton of good options.. sounds like you want a dry application.. lots of people like ones from spigen. They even make one that is curved for the edges of the screen.. mines in the mail
If I had to recommend one it would be from xoskins.. its a wet application.. but it doesn't come out real rubbery.. its extremely clear.. and I find wet application ones to come out better as its easy to squeegy it to perfection. Very little orange peel effect

Hmmmm.... I'm not sure if I would want the curved ones or the cut-off ones. I plan on getting a TPU case that should have the raised lip around the edge of the S3, would that affect my choice at all?

Wet application needs to be applied using a liquid on the screen protector. Then once placed on the screen, the liquid is squeegeed out. You're then supposed to let it dry and set. A dry application I simply placed on the screen like a sticker without the need to be moistened in any way.
There are pros and cons for each depending on what you prefer.

Personally, I've always found SGP/spigen's Steinheil protectors to be one of the best.
Ultra Crystal: ~$14 (+tax/S&H)
This is a dry-application, hard coated, clear screen protector. Personally, I've found Steinheil reliable in the past and recommend this brand.
http://tinyurl.com/ultracrystal (Amazon)
http://tinyurl.com/ultracrystal2 (spigen)
Curved Crystal: ~$16 (+tax/S&H)
If you've already looked at screen protectors for the S III, most of them don't cover the entire screen because the S III's front surface curves at the edges. This one is a dry-application, hard coated, clear screen protector that covers the entire screen by curving along the edges with the phone.
http://tinyurl.com/curvedcrystal (spigen)
--The Curved Crystal is slightly less hard and will run you $2 more. Personally, I use the Curved Crystal and am pretty satisfied with the results. Be careful to not lift the edges of the film when/if applying a case. But once you get the case on, it shouldn't affect the edges of the film (but it depends case-to-case).

anyone found crystal clear screen protector?

You can try skinplayer, they have the best edge to edge coverage, even closer to the edge than SGP curve sp.

Screen Protector Recommendations

Hey folks,
I'm wondering if anybody has any good recommendations for a screen protector. Normally I hate them but if possible I'd like one that's not really visible and won't collect dust.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Your best bet is with XOskins. I've tried both dry and wet app, and for clarity you should go for XOskins. I've heard very little about martin fields, but it's $20 for 1 and it's a dry app, so it'll be smooth unlike the XO. The only thing about XO is the rubbery feeling, however it is a great product and you should definitely go with it.
I personally have tried a handful of screen protectors, so I'll write up a quick review on all of them and try to help you out.
Clear screen protector from Verizon: around $15 for 3 dry applications. Does not fit up to the edges and has a rainbow effect at certain angles. Would not recommend.
SGP flex: around $15 wet application. Does fit up to the edges, but like other wet applications, still feels rubbery and has some minimal orange peelish effect. If you don't mind the feel/look, it will protect well. I personally do not like the feel/look of wet applications.
SGP oleophobic: around $15 for 2 dry applications. Does not fit up to the edges, but feels really nice and repels oil well. If you don't mind not having full coverage around the edges, I would recommend this.
Martin Fields: around $15 for 1 dry application. Does fit up to the edges, but because of our curved display, the bottom and lower side portions of the screen protector lift minimally. Also, does seem to be a fingerprint magnet. If you like dry applications with full coverage and don't mind small lifting at the bottom and lower sides, this works well. I'm personally using this since I like dry applications and it covers everything except the earpiece. It also comes with a small circle protector for the rear camera which is kinda cool.
ARM Station: free (?) I went to their site and emailed them asking for a sample and they sent 2 samples over to me for free. They're in China, so it took a little over a week. This fits pretty much to the edge, but slightly less than the Martin Fields, which is nice because the edges don't lift. They are thin, so I don't know how much protection these will offer and there is the rainbow effect like the clear Verizon protectors. If you don't mind those things and like the full coverage of the screen, these are really nice. Just don't know how much longer they will be sending out "free" samples.
Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. One more question, which ones are least visible? In other words, which one will help my screen look like I don't have a screen protector? I'm super OCD and that bothers me lol.

There are 2 things that make you aware of having a screen protector - the clarity and the fit.
Oleophobic is pretty clear but it's not edge to edge, so you could obviously tell there's a protector sitting on top of your screen because of the margin around it.
XO is just as clear BUT it's wet application so it means the texture is slightly rubbery. No orange peel though, unlike Zagg.
Will the martin fields cover enough so that the cases can "lip" over it? I remember the sgp had considerable gap on the edges and thought that no case would cover those. I have the diztronic v3 case if that matters.
I've tried almost all these screen protector and for $7.99 you can get basalguardz screen protector and there is 3 in the package. Can't go wrong

Looking for a Screen Protector

I'm trying to buy a screen protector preferably with a matte finish. I like the fact that its a smooth finish allowing for easy gliding with your fingers. I also looked up crystal clear ones but I do not know how they feel to the touch. Also I'm trying to look for ones with good cutouts (NOT like this: http://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-Anti-G...8-6&keywords=galaxy+s3+screen+protector+matte). Can anyone give me some input or links on amazon?
Have you looked into the Spigen SGP Flex HD screen protectors?

It's wet application, so I don't know how comfortable you feel about installing them.

Do your fingers glide across it easily or does it kinda stick? I've put invisible shields on my phones before and I hate that its sticky (even when I first applied it) and the orange peel/yellowing effect
From what I know, the Flex HD is pretty smooth to the touch and you won't have to worry about any orange peel/yellowing effect because it's a high quality product.

not sure about the matte finish or the glide for you, but i can tell you i've had 3 screen protectors on my galaxy s3.
first there was the ZAGG. expensive, full body, etc. the screen protector was decent enough, very plyable and stretchy. uses that press and peel install method. cutouts for the phone suck though. they are cut-downs, not cut outs. more area is exposed than needed. i never did like the feel of it either once it was on. that and the store guy goofed the install, so...tore that off.
then there was the protector that came with Incipio case i bought. way different material. stiff and rigid, a harder plastic feel than the soft plyable ZAGG. i think this is that "crystal" type protector. but the cutouts were worse on this than the ZAGG. even more area exposed because of big cut downs on the top and bottom (lots of area exposed up top basically stretching end to end) i did install it though, and i liked the feel and glide more than the ZAGG. it seems more "slippery". unfortunately the top two corners never took (they are awfully pointy due to the big exposure up top). they seemed to be bent up in the packaging. and so that screen protector also came off (i do like the incipio case though).
now i'm onto the Skinomi. came with a skin. the cut outs are actual cut outs. no cut downs, no extra exposure. install was a little harder due to alignment, i swear i think they cut it small. i did get everything to line up eventually though. old school install with the spray bottle. material of the Skinomi is probably more ZAGG than Incipio-like, but it's not quite as plyable as the ZAGG. I do actually like the feel on my finger with the Skinomi. It's not the same feel as the Incipio though, it has a little more "sticky" to it than the hard protector did. pretty pleased with it tho, and it's working thus far.... :good:
anyway, if that helps, cool. if not, thanks for the vent.
Moshi is nice and anti glare... It does cover edge to edge but the blue trim covers up the blue pebble finish. I have the sgp nano optics on the way...

I picked up the Flex HD and installation went smooth. Only thing I didn't like was the spray bottle included which sucked. After installation, the screen is smooth as silk, very little "tug" or any of that yellowing effect. Best part is, it comes with 2:good:

Anyone plan to sell their second piece of their flex hd? =)
I saw in a review video from a guy who posted it on this forums said it had a rubber feel to it. I'm a swype user and I hate when my finger gets stuck because of that rubber feeling. When I felt matte for the first time, it glided so easily that I would never have problems swyping.

I was never a fan of Zagg products, until I had the HD screen protector installed on my S3. Perfectly clear, and its 100x smoother than regular Invisishield products. Id recommend it to anyone.
so I've had a chance to try a few different screen protectors already and I've found that the edge of the S3 display has a slight curve making it difficult for screen protectors to stay down.
the edges on 3 different sp's have done this. I've tried a full screen and then a few that were smaller than the display and still have issues.
The issue is that thick screen protectors just lift up off the curved display over time..
It sounds like wet SP installs are going good though?

I snagged the Incipio Sicrylic (sp?) off ebay. It's the soft rubber case with the two pieces. A snug rubber piece, and an outer "shell" that snaps onto the rubber case. Works really well actually. My daily case at the moment (better than the vent samsung with coin holder, and a straight skin from skinomi - i have the carbon skin)
I could post a link, but I'm a newb and so that's not allowed. I'll try to take a picture or sometghing and update this or my earlier post. Spent all this money on acc's...might as well share with folks so they don't have to repeat my mistakes....
and to the other poster who mentioned wet installs going well - i'll have to agree. vs the peel install on zagg, and the rgular install on the incipio crystal, i've ben happiest with my work and the protector after the wet install on the skinomi.

I am on my second flex hd and I am taking it off. It's been a week and the "rainbow-like" specks or clouds are appearing. It could be the adhesive that's turning into like colorful sandy appearance. Kinda annoying.
I ordered the Spectre but I am not gonna see it any sooner.
I've used dry application protectors on my other phones but its not going to work with the curved glass of GS3. Good luck.

Best wet applied screen protector (case fit)?

I have been wanting to get a Zagg HD protector but it appears they only make a full screen coverage version which won't work with most TPU cases. I don't want to give up my Diztronic case so I'm looking for a similar wet application screen protector that will work. Ideally, I'd like it to have very minimal orange peal like the Zagg HD one does.
Any recommendations?

+1 I also have a diztronic case which I like because it keeps the slimness, but at the same time I'd like for the full screen protector to not have its edges lifted (looking at you zagg HD)
I have the ZAGG HD and love it.
i got one for free from bestbuy and they installed it as well (came with my phone) - i let it sit for 2 days and when i put my "PT" case on it came off =(
the PT case is two pieces top and bottom, it covers up the entire back and the front bezel.
bestbuy replaced the screen protector and i wanted 2 days again, this time however, when i put the case on i pressed DOWN on the phone while sliding it in the case - to put preasure on the bottom/back of the case and less preassure on the screen.
nnot sure if i explained that correctly, but now i am able to take the case on/off at will without getting in the way of the ZAGG HD
it takes a little longer, but works perfectly

I just got the Best Skins Ever "Version 2", which has reduced orange peel and a better feel. It's about $6, and is probably the best skin I've ever used, normally I hate them all. The holes are individually cut out, no U-channels like the Zagg HD. Feels like glass, nice and slick from day 1.
I have an Armorsuit Military Shield and have never had any problems with it.
Based on your description you appear to be looking for something along the lines of Zagg's "case friendly" screen protector for the IPhone. My solution? Simply shaving the sides and top/bottom of a full sized protector. A scissor is largely ineffective because of the difficultly in cutting straight. I solved this by using an old fashioned paper trimmer. Requires a very sharp blade. Can also be accomplished with a straight edge like a ruler and a very sharp razor blade. Cut to size and apply. The "edge" is virtually impossible to see. If cut properly, it actually goes right to the edge of the case itself. I practiced bit on a few excess pieces I had.

Thanks for getting back on track. This may be the way I go with it. At least until Zagg comes out with a case fit version of their HD protector for this phone. I'm tempted to just try one with the Diztronic case and let it fully dry for a few days at home before carefully trying to get the case on. But I highly doubt that is going to work.
I noticed Zagg has a "Case Friendly Screen Coverage" for the S3 for $14.99:

Perfect! I had this on my Galaxy Nexus and it was the best protector I found. I'm glad they finally released it for the S III.
Thanks guys!
Just checked their website, looks pretty good. I'd definitely refer my friends to it.

best non-glass screen protector?

hey guys. so I had a problem with the Zagg Shield HD...once I got the extended battery and the case for it..it kept lifting up. My wife has her on her phone and it's now got a bunch of marks on it.
So I tried the Spigen glas. protector. looks beautiful but always had sensitivity issues. They sent me a free replacement. still, i'm not enjoying the phone as much and I feel it's down to how I have to press extra hard on the back button and type extra slow...
so, what is the best "old-school" screen protector i can get that won't affect sensitivity but still protects the screen from scratches? I need one that won't go to the edges but also won't just be the screen part...if that makes sense. something like the coverage of the Spigen glas without the sensitivity issues i'm having with the glas.
thanks!
Try the Anzer/Amzer. What ever it is called. I plan on replacing my Spigen Glass screen protector with one of those. I hated my zagg invisible shield HD.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
searched Amazon and three versions came up. they all look like they go to the edge of the screen, which is not good with cases on the extended battery. that's why I had to get rid of the Zagg...
any others?
I am just using the one that came with my Diztronic case and I ordered a pack of 3 screen protectors from Amazon for $3.85 (for my wife's GS3). They are all clear, don't mess with the sensitivity, and look great. If I hand my phone to 10 people, 9 of them wouldn't even know that have I have a screen protector on there and the 1 that does know would know because they are looking for it.
I don't know why everyone insists on getting these tempered glass screen protectors or the Zagg-like (rubber feeling) screen protectors that you can't poke a pen or a drill bit through in a YouTube video. All I need is something that will keep my keys from scratching up the screen in my pocket and if it does scratch the screen protector I want to be able to replace it quickly and cheaply. For basically a buck each... You can't go wrong.
I still have the original 'cheap' screen protector on my old Vibrant that my kid is using and it still looks great so I have never needed to change them out. I still have 2 out of the 3 that I bought back when I got that phone so I am ready to go if/when it needs replacing.
Spigen nano clear is good. It came with my case. The edges only go to the edge of the screen so it's good if u have a bulky case. It's also really easy to clean and feels smooth like glass
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
anyone try the Spigen 4H protector?
the nano and clear are 2H, the glas is 8H, this one is 4H and seems to be more like a film but stronger than the other models.
http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/sa...axy-s3-screen-protector-steinheil-series.html
I'm looking for a good and cheap screen protector too. I prefer the dry application hard plastic ones (4H), I don't like the tempered glass neither the wet application skins.
I have the SGP Ultra Nano Clear and it's good sp but scratched easily. I had the Ultra Crystal, it was better but the fit wasn't right (too big, caused the edges to peel). I think they fixed its size already, not sure.
My ideal sp would be the curved and clear with 4H hardness and fingers print resist at a price of less than $15 (for 2 ps). I found one from korea - SkinPlayer 3D, but it's more expensive than $15 and can't be found outside korea. there's a topic about it -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856079
I think i'll go with the Ultra Crystal again. unless somebody will recommend a cheaper sp with the same or better quality.
sounds like you're describing the one I posted above in terms of look, hardness, price, etc. but now it's just a question of whether it'll peel on the sides or not...
any other suggestions?
I'm really ITCHING to get rid of this Spigen glas thing...I was ready to order the Nano Optics but the reviews are so mixed for those online I don't want to waste my time and money anymore.
why do local stores only carry Zagg?! ahhhh

I did and that's why I asked. I saw talk of different cuts and test versions. I wasn't sure how to order or to make sure I was getting the "better" version...

Currently I'm using ultra nano, pretty good, the only complain could be visibility under the sun.
Any experiences with realook 3d?

i appreciate your enthusiasm, but there's a few things that concern me. Spigen makes the glas, and both of them have had horrible sensitivity. second, the curvel crystal makes it sound like it goes to the edges of the phone...and that was my problem with the Zagg Shield HD...the cases were lifting the edges badly.
is either of these things happening to you? do you have a picture of how it looks on the phone?

And I appreciate your skepticism but yes it does go around the curved edges and I have a tpu case on mine and its been on a few days and I don't have any issues with it.

I have the spigen curved one also, no issues at all with sensitivity, not sure where you heard that? It feels really good, like no layer at all. I can't tell you whether it will lift up or not with a case, my case is 2 pieces so it never pushes against the edges..

good lightweight screen protector. no friction

i like the front of my screen being smooth and frictionless (ie no heavy rubber protector)...is there any good screen protector out there, that's light, doesn't have too much friction (could be as simple as a bubbless peelon) out there for the s3? Also wouldn't take away too much from the 'press' intensity I have to apply to my phone screen.
Usually I wouldn't make athread for such things but there seem to be so many different goods, knockoffs, fake reviews out there I'm unsure what to get
Steinheil Ultra Nano Clear. It comes in a 3-pack for about $15 shipped directly from manufacturer's website. I've tried the cheap one that came with my Ballistic case, a 3M Natural View, and DBA Just Like Glass and this one is better than any of those. It was a little bit "grippy" at first but my finger slid around smoothly after a little while. I also managed the best-looking installation of all the brands I've tried (it's a simple dry installation, which I applied in a steamy bathroom to prevent trapped dust). It's completely invisible with no lifting edges (all the others lifted where the screen curves at the edges). And no, I don't work for them.
Completely agree, amazing screen protector.

Dba just like glass, exactly what you're looking for.
How easy was it to apply and remove? Is the adhesive too strong or sticky?
I picked up the day I bought my S3 the Zagg Invisible Skin HD. I've always used Invisible Skins and this one is leaps and bounds better as far as clarity and smoothness. Also still retains the lifetime guarantee.

what's the difference between the nano clear and the crystal curve?
I'm so frustrated I'm about to drop Spiegel all together
Talk about poor marketing
I'm not a fan of the "step 1 and step 2" multi-pack screen protectors that don't stick well. Ya gotta figure there's a reason they come in 3-packs, because they suck. I see that Zagg makes a "smudge proof" screen protector for the Note 2. I'd really like to see it for the Galaxy S3.
Rearth Ringo...Pros: cant tell its on the screen..application was easy with no bubbles and feels smooth as glass. Cons: Doesn't go edge to edge and it does scratch easily.

I really like should Steinheil ultra clear screen protector. Feels like there is no protector and it is non adhesive. Little pricey but worth it based on trying other less expensive alternatives.

I got the ultra clear nano. First screen protector ever. Looks beautiful
A few tips to newbies applying it. I left mine by a steamy shower. Paranoid and let the dust particles settle. Cleaned it with the micro cloth.
Take the ' 'front' end is at the bottom left of the screen. On the top make sure the camera isn't covered (it shouldn't matter much if it were, in my opinoin)...peel the back end half way off (MOST IMPORTANT POINT...it is a very light screen protector that will fall back on its sticky self if you don't) and apply from the bottom (or front end part of your phone) and slowly peel back your way up.
Iron out the bubbles with the rubber thingy
Peel off front. Most bubbles should be out anyways.
The peelback should be a very smooth uniform motion. You also do NOT want any part of the plastic to fold on top of itself. It gives the appearance of a scratch on the screen.
This baby is so smooth and exactly what I wanted, but I could see why a lot of people complained about wasting one while trying to learn to apply it. Its like nothing was applied to it. No friction ,especially with sweaty hands and you can easily forget its on.

If it's not too much trouble, would you update the thread/pm me when you see scratches + your opinion about how scratch resistant the protector is? There seems to be mixed thoughts of how easily it is to scratch it
I will be remember what i said on application and how it is so thin it folds on it laelf and can give tje impression of a scratch. Initial application has to be very smooth. Other than that its great if youbwere sitting wjith me you wouldnt notice a screen protector on. I honestly don't see it scratching though. That and it has the right amount of friction. The sweat on your hands actually lubricates your finger across the screen.

interesting.. might consider the nano clear.. the xtremeguard i have is nice but has some "dents" which i freaking hate.
Read the last line on my last post. Thats how it is and how it should be in my opinion

I'm looking for a good/decent edge to edge, dry install protector for my wife's GS3. It has to be dry because she has already cracked the screen.
I've done some searching in the forums, but can't seem to nail down just those two must-have conditions: Edge to edge and dry install.
All suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks.
I have the ultra nano clear and it feels very smooth. Ive had it since septembre and have gotten zero scratches.
Also what screenprotector is not lightweight ? All screenprotectors are pieces of plastic lol. Havent had any metal screenprotector yet.

I too love the edge to edge ones.. I've tried a few so far, realook and spigen curved.. both are OK.. there is still a tiiiiiny gap on the edges.
I just got some tippin ones off amazon.. when they say edge to edge, they effin mean it.. this is an amazing fit.. got some pics of mine installed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35774502
