CM10 update build??? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I am currently running CM10 alpha 4.3 and I am loving it!! Question, when a new build comes out, do i just put it on phone and update it in recovery on top of the previous version, or is it recommend to flash in another manner for it to work properly, also should i wipe data, delvik, cache or anything before flashing a new build?
Keep up the Great work guys !!!!!
:good:

No need to wipe anything but cache/dalvik when upgrading versions of the same ROM

ya same rom they say cache and delvic cache is all that needs to be wyped... which is nicce.... as long as your faithful to one rom lol...... but im running the same rom and is the crt off animation only working sometimes for you as well?

[Q] New midNIGHT rom installation problem

Hi all,
I just tried to upgrade from midNIGHT 4.2 BYOR to 6.1 BYOR. Yes, I haven't updated my phone since March...I know, my bad. ;-)
So I went thru the proper steps in CWM recovery i.e... backup, wipe data x3, wipe cache, x3, wipe dalvic x3 & then installed the new rom. Installation shows it completes successfully & then I reboot the phone. Phone boots up fine & everything looks to be ok except for I can't open Settings>About Phone, it force closes. But everything else seems to be good. But that's not the big issue. When I power off my phone & try to boot back into CWM recovery to install the additional apps, it goes straight into backup & restore on auto-pilot. I've gone thru this process 3 times now. My phone is basically unusable like this.
I'm using CWM 3.0.0.6. Any ideas?
Your on an older clockwrkmod I'm sure that rom is not compatible with the older cwm update it 5.0.2.7 its a sticky in adroid dev. But to get past all this go ahead and odin back to stock ec05 and reroot with this recovery in its place this should solve any issues and you no longer have to wipe 3 times.
Oh no need to go back to stock but it would be helpful as it usually clears any bugs you may encounter.

Why would you want to update to midnight rom 6.1 that rom is based on a gingerbread leak. You should upgrade to cm7 or ghe ei22 based roms. I believe the guy who does the midnight rom works with the dudes at ERA. If you want to support his Roms.

I see your point. I went with 6.1 because since getting & rooting my Epic, I've only used the midNIGHT roms. I enjoyed & had great results with earlier versions so I kept with them. But truth be told, I'm having continued issues after installing 6.1, even after reverting to EC05 stock & re-rooting.
So what would you recommend I check out?

Any of the ei22 roms are great... if you decide to go with an mtd rom make sure you read up on it first as there are a lot of changes and special things that need to be done when flashing themes and such (just mounting /system, nothing hard). All the ei22 roms (I've used them all) are very stable and very snappy! Just try em all out until you fall in love with one.... legendary is my favorite though...

I went with Legendary 2.2. Seems to be perty awesome so far. \m/ CyanogenMod looks good too. So what's the scoop on updating the kernel? I've already booted the phone, synced my account & installed some apps. Will it matter if I do it now?

Nope just wipe cache and dalvik before flashing the newest kernel. The kernel has a script to do that but I just say do it for consistency.

Don't have to be much of anything besides rooted w/ custom recovery. It should operate fine unless there's something wrong with the boot.img
I was running Hydro, wouldn't boot, went back to stock, will flash recovery and try flashing again.
Edit - Don't know what else I can be doing wrong. I went back to stock, flashed TWRP 2.2.1.3 and wiped, installed this rom, and it stays on the boot animation. Any ideas?

Check out Term's AOKP JB thrad to see if he posted a boot.img/flashable kernel. That sounds like what your issue is. I have heard that TWRP doesn't properly restore/wipe boot partition.

The reason it works fine for those who already have jb is aokp still doesnt make the boot.blob correctly. So unless the OP switches it out with one built from a working build those not already on jb will not boot.
@karodee I'm gonna send you a DM later you can continue the AOKP builds. Ive got my own ROM I'll be releasing here soon so I'll give you ant help you want or need on the aokp stuff.

Do you mean you can't customize the toggles displayd in the notification area? I think that is currently not implemented in AOKP, they just recently merged the battery icon for the tablet navbar. Or do you mean the toggles that are there by default do not work? I tried them and they work for me :-/ Could you give a logcat?

I do mean those toggles. They were in the previous preview. That's why Im confused. The OLD preview was working fine. This latest one doesnt work.
Oh well, we'll see what happens.
I like the boot animation, but this appears to be a port of cm10, not the aokp that is based on stock. What sucks is it doesn't have some of the cm features like battery percentage.

I did see the other two releases for CM11 (SmasherX and the Unofficial) but I didn't know if CM was officially going to support our device. So I'm glad an official release is out and has the CM team and Bad.Fish behind it.
So thanks to both of you for getting CM11 into our hands so I can harass my phone by saying "OK Google"

Has anyone gotten the built in wifi tether to work.. Bluetooth teether works but I error out when starting the wifi teether. Just wondering if this has been enabled yet in the nightlies.. Any help appreciated. I have searched the threads and no mention of it thanks

Running the CM-11 12-8 nightly with CM-KK Gapps, flashed with latest TWRP recovery. I think this might be running better than 4.3 ever ran. Everything is working well that I have experienced so far. Been running for 3 days. I am running Dalvik. Tried ART. Can't say that I noticed any speed improvement. I did get a single error popping up. It was something about Google text to speech. That was the only error I got running ART on my current setup. This is awesome. Wasn't sure if we would get to experience KitKat on thus device. Thanks.

Thanks.

Errors are from the gapps. Use the ones in OP link. Make sure its the 4.4.1. and not the 4.4.2 or you will also get errors

Has anyone had any issues with Wi-Fi tether on 12-11 release? Dirty flashed but wanted to see if anyone might have clean flashed and experienced the same thing on this build before I start over...

Thanks Bad Fish. Can I just reflash the ROM with the proper gapps clearing Dalvik and cache or do I have to do a complete wipe of everything?

Maybe you should clean flash with the recommended gapps above... I have no camera issues at all
