NFC keyboard - NFC Hacking

I am not sure where I saw it but I saw an article for a disposable keyboard that uses NFC as a form of communication but on the major downside the keyboard was around $250 not exactly "disposable" if you ask me..moving on the crutch of my question is how is this possible???? Is there a way to create a NFC coil that is in constant communication with the phone if so how?

An app is required, so I would assume that each key triggers a different value that gets sent to the phone via NFC then the app recognizes it and inputs text. It is not really practical considering that bluetooth keyboards do the same thing but with a range of 10m with replaceable batteries and for a much lower price. It is nice that there would be no bluetooth paring, but the required app outweighs that. Overall I can't see this taking off.
Here is a link if anyone is interested: http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/07/throwaway-nfc-keyboard/

i read about this too...sounded pretty idiotic. Expensive and useless. I wonder how they get people to finance manufacturing of stuff like that.

How to take advantage of NFC

I love the idea of using the nfc on the device unfortunately idk exactly what to do with it besides the whole sharing thing with other gs3
It would be nice if people could post up certain day to day scenarios in which they use it or apps that can take advantage of it.

I spotted this and thought they were some good common uses for these tags.
http://t.co/hrQnpbYQ
And I haven't read too much into this but it could be useful for the screen off use of these tags.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709586
As much as profiles and Tasker(awesome app) work, the tags provide a one step solution for those things Tasker cant do. I have yet to try them myself, but when they arrive in the mail, I will certainly be putting them to the test for various things I do everyday.
I seem to have problems with NFC. The parking meters in SF and Oakland are supposedly NFC enabled so that if you tap your phone against the meter it starts the payment app for you but when I put my phone to it nothing happens.
I'm not sure where to buy the tags from. Does anyone know a good place to get a couple of them for cheap? With enough "bytes" on them to do all these toggles and assignments?
I've found this so far:
http://www.amazon.com/NFC-Tag-Basic-Package-Tags/dp/B006AVFA80/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
http://www.amazon.com/PREFORMATTED-Mifare-Ultralight-NFC-Tags/dp/B006RJTXZQ/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
Both same brand, different option/size. The first link comes with 5x C NFC stickers with 192 bytes and 5x Mifare 1K stickers that hold 1,000 bytes for about $22 with regular shipping
The second link comes with 10x Pre-Formatted NXP Mifare Ultralight C Stickers with 192 bytes. Sounds like they are the same as the first x5 pieces you get in the first link but I also see that in this link they come with a writer protection option (you can lock whatever you write on them). I didn't read that in the first link tho. about $21
Anyway my question is how many bytes are recommended for assignments, tasks and other stuff like that. I don't want to be limited. What is the difference between the tags I posted up there. Both have reviews form people with the s3 saying they work flawlessly.
Tmobile sells NFC tags!!

They are overpriced with terrible feedback.

NFC tags?

Has anyone done anything cool with NFC tags yet, I've bought some off eBay and i'm looking for inspiration

That's the only useful thing I've done with NFC too.
Here are some general things you might like to do:
Beside bed to configure powersave options
Beside pc to configure sync and other transfer software
what else is possible ?

I got one to use when i enter my house. Turns mobile data off, wifi on, waits 5 seconds, and then turns on my computer with wake on lan. Its a Tasker task setup with NFC task launcher.
I also have a tag on my car dock and I'm using NFC Task Launcher. I have a switch tag for it so when I place it in the dock it turns WiFi off, turns bluetooth on, turns media volume up all the way, turns auto brightness off and turns brightness all the way up. I take it out and it does the opposite of all that. Love it.

I have a tip for all you NFC lovers.
If you do not have new NFC Tags you can useNFC ReTag on "old" or already used one's you can't alter.
Most people already have NFC tags around and don't even know it. Your best bet for NFC tags is in ID cards, Passport, driving license, door Key cards, public transport cards. Just try some.
Maybe some soda our beer company handed some out that have been in a drawer or closet. Because once you've seen your phone going to there website, well what else can you do with these?
With NFC Retag you can now scan you're "newly" found, already programmed for something else, NFC tags and let them do a totally other thing than they were intended to do. NFC ReTag can be set to do a hole number of things. It's even good for the environment. Reuse old tags.

Nfc key fob

Is it possible to use my phone as a key fob for my apartment complex? Or say my workplace?
I saw the big confirmed NFC list elsewhere, but was curious of anyone has tried or knows about this.
Thanks
Sent on the run. Band on the run.
This has been talked about before, no you cant, its not using the same technology. The easiest way to check this is to get the NFC reader for your phone and try to read whatever your trying to use, like a security card for the building, it will not read it and this will tell you its not the same. I had the same idea as at work I have a Prox II card to get in and around the building, tried to read it and it would not work, I checked the web and sure enough its not the same frequency or something along those lines. At this time its only good for paying at places that have the ability and messing with your own tags.
Where is the actual NFC device? Is it in the Battery?
Im curious if it's upgradable (aftermarket, of course) to add on more frequencies

For the S3 it is in the battery as you say. So an aftermarket battery will likely not have the NFC functionality in there that you would like.

OBD-II scanner for GS3?

hey guys.
I've been wanting to get my hands on a OBD-II scanner to check out my car and have with me when we are out car-shopping in the next couple of months.
looking at the play store, I think I want to get Torque Pro as the software, but i'm wondering what hardware to get. I don't mind it being wired, micro-usb. don't need fancy bluetooth or wifi scanners. i just want it to be good but not overly expensive.
any recommendations?
if you get something setup can you please post your setup?
This is all you need along with the torque app. It's the exact one I'm using.
http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav=item.view&id=160902041473
I'm using it and its working gr8!! Make sure your car supports obd2 before you buy it and the guy from torque app recommended good warranty from the seller. I'm assuming they break easily.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Just as a heads up...if you plan on using it for logging, the bluetooth ones typically read pretty slow. If it is just for code reading, that is pretty decent.
wow that is awesome. and so cheap. I'm really only looking for reading codes so I can spot those issues when shopping for cars and whenever I get a check engine light. my mechanic is a close childhood friend and he's got the $5000(+?) computer + scanner setup but i want this for smaller things so I don't have to bother him all the time.
I'll get my hands on these and report on how it works.
I paid close to thirty over two years ago for that same unit and I don't regret it at all.... works great. the torque app is one of the better if not the best app keeping up to date. I highly recommend this set up
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
why did I think this would be a several hundred dollar set up?
anyways, I'm hoping it's good. already ordered mine with expedited shipping. i'll wait to get torque when I receive the hardware.
thanks everyone!
I also can confirm that bt obd2 scanner and torque work great on my sch-i535 with jb

Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
This can read rpms in real time, and a lot of other things. I'll take some screen shots when I head out later.
are there any bluetooth obd-II readers that *don't* work with the GSIII? I was looking at a different one, so just curious if there was a certain type to stay away from.
I have this one: http://www.scantool.net/scan-tools/obdlink-bluetooth.html
It's worked great for me so far. Other than some PIDs not pulling because Ford wants to use proprietary codes, it's pulled everything I could want. I've used Torque, DashCommand, and a few other apps I can't remember right now, with no problems.

This one has some good reviews, too:

Lets be clear. the BT OBD2 has no limits. its a "dumb dongle"
the "intelligence" is in your car and in the software you run.
Torque will read just about anything SO what "YOU" can read is dictated by what the manufacturer of your car elected to make available over the ODBII data pipe.
fuel air and rpm are usually available.
that makes it sound even better. awesome. can't wait to get mine. should be here monday.
I actually just got the bafx scanner and bought torque pro. Its pretty nifty stuff and not a bad price.

Yep, I have the same setup. Works perfectly. The Dev for Torque also updates regularly, so he is staying on top of new cars.
And any US car made after 1996 is supposed to have an OBD-II connector, usually located under the steering wheel near the fuse panel (for most cars made in late 90's at least.)
Looks like fun! That ebay link doesn't list 02 Toyota camry but I know it has a obd2 port.. Maybe it's just not listed?

NFC Implant GT-I9505

Hey everyone, So I want to get an NFC chip implanted into my hand, don't ask why, ill think of a reason later.
For now I just want somebody more knowledgeable than I to tell me if this tag I am looking at [xM1 [Mifare S50 2x12mm Glass Tag]] Would be compatible with the broadcom NFC chip in my Galaxy S4 I9505?
It says on the page, " 13.56MHz ISO/IEC 14443-A Mifare S50 1K RFID chipset "
I believe there is a rule I cannot post links to pages with products for sale ?
Its from a site called dangerous things, as that's the first I found selling implantable chips..
Share with me your information please And thank you in advance!
And while im at it, Im trying to think of some cool uses for it, Is it possible to write to it something that lets me use it to pay for things ?
I have heard of people that do this..
As far as i know the broadcom nfc chip does not support the mifare protocol. You may be able to write NDEF data to it but i don't think you will be able to use the original mifare protocol.
Also i suggest you look into chips who can run you custom code like javacard

Damn. XDA cut a ton of my reply out.
So, first off, ignore the "implications" guy. I cant tell you how many times ive heard its the mark of the beast, or that its a tracking device, or that its a dna harvester, etc etc. Cant beat crazy.
Anyways, I am an app developer, look up my name on the market. I LOVE NFC, most of my newer apps use NFC in some way. I have an app called NFCSecure that locks your device unless you have the nfc tag you setup as a key. thats a pretty big one.
Also tag a hue. turns tags into light switches for hue lights. i can lay in bed, scan my tag and if my light is off, it goes on and vice versa.
My ltest app is nfcvault. uses the tag as an encryption key for passwords, pins, etc.
