[Q]SetCPU Ideal Settings for High Performance and Top Notch Battery Life. - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I have the KyanRom 1.28 mod with the KT747 kernel. I have SetCPU and I'm trying to get the settings right to get rightous performance, but at the same time, (more so) excellent battery life. Here are my settings now (I have Juice Defender on too):
Screen off - cpu 594-192 - governer interactive
Charging any - cpu 1458-1458 - governer performance
Battery <= 20% - cpu 486-384 - governer interactive
Battery <= 50% - cpu 810-384 - governer interactive
Battery >= 50% - cpu 1512-486 - governer interactive
Screen on - cpu 1512-486 - governer interactive
Voltages from 1890-192 are:
1225-1890MHz
1175-1809
1125-1728
1100-1674
1100-1512
1075-1458
1075-1404
1050-1350
1050-1296
1025-1242
1025-1188
1000-1134
1000-1080
950-1026
950-972
925-918
925-864
900-810
900-756
850-702
850-648
825-594
825-540
825-486
800-384
800-192
Governer for interactive (changes on reboot often):
hispeed freq-1512000
go hispeed load-90
above hispeed delay (don't know what this is)-20000
min sample time-10000
timer rate-40000
input boost-0
boost-0
boostpulse- -1
Your input is much appreciated and respected. I think I'm undervolting a little too much since apps will crash on me from time to time, but not low enough to get into a boot cycle. So again, I'm looking for input on ideal settings for Ferrari 458 Italia performance, but more so, excellent battery life. Let me know if you need more detail.
Thanks in advance,
Pflip

Super insightful question... Just trying to get the most out of my mods: The main reason to root your phone, jerky.

would be nice to PUT it in the CORRECT section

Hence me question. He is new and probably can't read well.

which is General. No real question was asked. Certainly not development worthy

...

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME IN GETTING THIS INFO TOGETHER. i appreciate the info.
but you will get flamed real quick in this section. this phone threads aren't as friendly as others.

I highly suggest before you post another thread to read the rules, an understand what each section is. Development is only for roms an kernels. Not questions about that stuff. I'm moving this to Q&A

First off change all your interactive governors to ondemand. Second you could allow your device to underclock down to its lowest step which might help some when it doesn't need as much processing power.
Also, the new kernel goes all the way down to 96mhz and up to 2106mhz if you really want some over and under clocking.

[Q] queation about SetCpu

ok, i searched for the problem i had but couldnt find anything relevant. i hope someone can direct me to it, if there is any already, or give me an answer,
i downloaded Setcpu and ive seen most of people using "conservative" scaling for better battery life, but i dont see that option in the app. i just see ondemand, userspace and performance.
any idea if im doing something wrong?
and also i would appreciate if someone can tell me the settings for longer battery life? wanted to try it but didnt understand that much.
thanks.
btw im using virus rom rc3 with stock kernel.
The governors are kernel specific- if the kernel doesn't support it, it won't show up as an option. In your case, conservative scaling is not supported by the kernel you are using.

oh ok. now i got it. thanks for the info.
Both Netarchy and Kings kernels have "conservative" governors on them. One of the top ways to conserve battery is to make a profile setting for Screen Off where you set the min and max freq to the lowest possible setting. For me though I can go to 128 Mhz, I get too much lag on wake-up and therefore set to 384. Your phone may do better.
Someone also made a thread that describes the advanced settings. Tweaking those can also improve battery life as well.

Desire's CPU throttling

Does HTC DESIRE with stock FROYO use CPU THROTTLING by default or not?
If not the the SetCPU would really come in handy when the Desire is idle.
+1
I too would like to know this.
what do you mean throttling? you mean it drops speed at high temperature? or drops speed when idle?
by default the desire is set ondemand 998mhz when idle or at sleep it drops to 245mhz

this is what I meant.
When you say sleep, does that mean that when the you press the power button once and the screen turns off.
Does this constitute as sleeping and thus lowers the clock to 245MHz?

yes when the screen turns off, unless a program is requesting cpu resources it will drop to 245 not only during screen off but during idle time too
you can improve all this by rooting ofcourse and installing kernel with different schedulers like interactive but ondemand is there in stock froyo
1.
So the stock HTC Froyo just uses 2 states.
When operating the phone it is at ~1GHz, but when the phone is idle it's at 245Mhz.
Correct?
2.
If the scheduler was Interactive but On Demand that would mean that the CPU clock would adapt to my usage. Such as this example:
- If I was browsing the net thru WIFI the clock would be ~1GHz.
- If I was just adding a calendar entry then the clock would probably be < 500 MHz.
Correct?
3.
Are there any slowdowns expected by using the On Demand schedular?
ondemand is in stock
schedulers like interactive, powersave and smartass can be added via root
no on demand also scales the frequencies not just two state
ondemand is good enough only sometimes late to respond to low latency like UI menus, for example interactive is more smart and responds faster there is another called smartass which is supposed to be a further modification
by the way you can notice ondemand sometimes late response while scrolling the default white messages widget in sense
HAMDIR
thx for the thorough explanation.
While browsing through this forum I noticed that the frame of mind is that interactive would give better battery life.
Why is that so?
Hamdir,
Thanks for your explanations Can I just ask you 1 more question. I have asked it on another thread but no-one took the time to give me an answer.
I have installed Richard Trip's svs V5e_1113 kernel but I do not have SetCPU installed. Which governor does this kernel use by default and is there a way (using a command from ADB shell) to use smartass governor instead? I really need to know this.
Thanks and I hope to get an answer this time.

KISS-Kernel

excuse me; have question about this kernel; i couldn't post in the original thread;
by setting the min clock speed to 768MHZ & the max to 1407MHZ, How much voltage does it spend? by setting the min to 245MHZ & max to 1024MHZ how much? i overclocked to 1407MHZ , i saw more smoothness and speed; but i felt that its consuming more power!
is overclocking harmful to CPU? ( always overclocking )

Hi
Political correct answer:
Of course OC "can" harm your device - like all OCĀ“ing
Realistic answer:
Most One V devices can handle OCing up to 1.5 without problems
but since this may be specific to chip manifacturing there is no
guarantee that it is. Therefore before using any OC you should
test it very carefully.
And also - Of course running the chip at higher frequencies needs
more power. Simply physics .)
In "normal" daily use the difference is not big because the cpu will
not run at high frequencies most of the time. If you do things
like "heavy" gaming this is of course forcing the cpu to run faster.
To reduce the "effect" a little bit there is a kernel feature called
Undervolting (UV) with that you can reduce the voltage for
specific frequencies. Like OC this is device specific. So some
devices can run stable with more reduced voltage then others
BTW: why to you set the min frequency to 768?
This will limit that the frequency cannot go lower then that if the
device is idle. Running at 245 needs of course less power then 768
max
Thanks for the nice info, well, i heard that some users said that the best frequency for " My One V" rom:
Minimum: 768MHZ
MAX: 1407
I'm using "Set CPU" to OC
So setting the min frequency to 245MHZ will save more power, right?

Yes - especially for the time before the device can go into
"deep sleep" when beeing idle.
The only "disadvantage" is that depending on the govener that you use
there might be a small lag before the frequency scales up
Actually it depends if you notice it at all
If you use govener ondemand it should be no problem
if you use e.g. smartassV2 you might consider thinking about
using some tunables that will reduce that behaviour.

Thanks, yeah, i meant for normal activities, like checking Facebook, mail, watching movies ... So ondemand mode would be better

What is your recommend governor to integrate with your Titanium-KISS kernel and what is your favourite I/O Scheduler tweaks, for daily use & heavy gaming?
I'm using smartassV2 & i set my I/O Scheduler to deadline until now, because it's peoples favourite
Should i change it to ondemmand to gain a better performance?
Hi
Actually there is already a lot of information about your question
in the KISS kernel thread.
Especially about how to tweak smartassV2 based on "profiles"

[Q] Any recommended kernel settings for Jedi? X17 with SaberKernel 38.1

Does anyone have any recommended kernel settings they'd like to share? I've been changing things around a little but I'm too afraid to make any big differences as I don't want to ruin anything. Any recommended GPU clock settings would also be appreciated!
Also, I see people mentioning they're overclocking their phone a lot. Does overclocking on this phone mean it constantly stays overclocked until you change the settings back or does it change frequencies as needed to a maximum frequency that you set?

Hey When you OC lets say to 1800mhz . That means your proccesor can Amp up to 1800 mhz if needed. Your phone will always idle when its a sleep. My setting are 100mhz UC and 1800mhz OC. Gpu is also Oc to 640mhz. I use pegasusq for governor and cfq or zen for scheduler. I also use eco mode . I get very good battery life and performance.
Also...what apps are you guy using for this? Seems most use trickster... Wondering if anyone has experience with others.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 4
I would use whatever the developer of your rom/kernel recommends (which is Trickster most of the time)
Anyone know what eco mode does? I've been looking it up but all I've been getting is this guy's kernel that he named 'eco'
Also, for anyone reading this thread with a similar question to mine I'd heavily recommend using Zen over CFQ as a scheduler because it's much smoother and no jitters/stutters (at least in my experience)
Sent from my SGH-I317
I'm curious what Eco does as well. Tried looking it up, but didn't find anything useful.
Trying out Zen...been getting some annoying hangups and jitters with this kernal. UC 100 OC 1704. And FYI...I've used the stock clocks and still got the same lag and lockups and screen freezes. Also tried on demand gov.
Could it be that ZRAM is enabled? Not quite sure the benefits of it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 4
Do you have eco mode enabled? Also, maybe you should look into Seeder. It sounds like it's perfect for the kind of problems you're having. Or you could change your minimum voltage from 100 to 200, I heard 100 can be kind of buggy sometimes

Governors...

Rooted Stock ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387942. Havent changed my Kernal asfar as I know, but have adjusted CPU setting in ROM toolbox.
I currently use OnDemand governor with max slider at 1200Mhz. After learning that OnDemand is not too good for batterys life long term as I use my phone in short bursts and alot of multitasking I have found that SmartassV2 would probably be the best governor for to use. The phone is used to play media, games, browsing and sketchbook app, nothing too serious but I want the best balance between battery life and performance possible.
I understand playing with the kernal can result in issues but have not managed to find a guide on how to do this on XDA. Can anyone advise me on this or point me towards a simple guide please.
Thanks.
so ur using Stock Samsung kernel with ondemand ??
only governor on stock kernel that have cores hot plugging is pegausuQ AFAIK so ondemand will cause worse battery
