Hey Devs - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I was wondering if any of you could instruct me on how to dump the boot.img from either my phone or an original image. This would be great help. Thanks!

I figured this would be a good way to start a path for those of us that are trying to learn.

Probably get a better response in Q&A.

You should be able to get the current boot.img on your phone by doing the following in adb
'adb shell'
'su'
'dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8 of=/sdcard/boot.img'
'exit'
'exit'
'adb pull /sdcard/boot.img C:\Location of your choice'
Hope this is what you were going for...

[Q] SystemUI.apk

How does one replace the existing systemui.apk file with the new desired one? Each attempt on my own, I end up with force closes, or "not able to install."
Thanks in advance.
Doesn't work like that. To be simple.

Help pwease...
I managed to include it with my rom and flash it.

Technically no. Your question pertains to development, but the development section is for releases of Roms, Radios and kernels and such. But to answer your question, you can rename your flashable zip with no problems. Good luck!

Grab either Chris's stock repacked w/CWM5 or Rogue kernel. You will want the tar file. You will flash it in PDA slot in Odin. In the future, please post questions in Q&A

I don't know, how about you learn how to read and write, then learn how to follow guidelines and last but not least post where you're supposed to. Better yet, get an iPhone, done.

Rude? I never used foul launguage or name calling, if I was rude it was cause I suggested you get an iPhone, I apologise for that. I find your actions rude when you post where you're not supposed to. I guess we all have different opinions of what rude means. Nonetheless, done here.

Not really man, this is a development forum, you should have used q&a

Wont update from eclair...

I have an epic 4g and it is stuck in elair 2.1....when it goes to recovery screen to update it wont says status 7 failed or something to that effect. There is a root bin file playlogo missing. Ive tried to find the factory rom to start over but all the download links are old and missing after they are clicked on. My question is can i root straight to the cyanogenmod 9? Thanks for any help...I have searched for answers but like i said all the threads are extremely old...thanks
Lol =] I feel your pain man. There are new stock images you'll need to flash first. Then you can root with the most recent way there is. If you would rather me do them I offer rooting services remotely via teamviewer 7 or give me a minute and ill provide you with the links necessary.
Oh and thanks for posting in Q&A.

So if you feel like a lone ranger and want to do this yourself here are the links to the video how to's.
1. Follow this video How to Unroot/Unbrick Epic 4g, this will put you on the latest stock image. Yes it says unroot or unbrick... ignore that. Just follow this. Some pre-requsites would be to make sure you have the drivers for the epic installed, make sure the cable you are using isnt the stock one and is of good quality.
2. Then once finished and on stock use this video to root it.

[Q] How to root GN Android 4.2.2

Hi,
How can I root GN android 4.2.2.
my device is already unlocked. I tried GN toolkit but the latest android is not available.
your help is highly appreciated.
Root it like every other nexus device:
fastboot flash a custom recovery
reboot recovery
flash supersu.zip
Learn adb and fastboot. Toolkits are just about the worst thing XDA has ever birthed. If you can't learn to use a basic command prompt you definitely shouldn't be rooting or otherwise modifying your device.

with the release of 4.2.2, it has become evident that 99% of the people here arent interested in learning anything. you should see the Nexus 7 section. The mods wont even do anything over there.

Regardless of him/her reading the QA, the question was answered already.

My phone showed me the roboto with a warning sign and a "no command" at the bottom while the cmd window was shaping "waiting for device".

Let's see;
A. There's 3 stickies and < infinity threads about this topic.
B. His question was answered WITHIN THIS THREAD.
C. You answered the same question on this same page yourself
D. Its not xdaNannies.
So no.
If somebody isn't capable of being self sufficient for the < 10 minutes the rooting/unlocking process takes what hope do they have of ever contributing anything other than duplicate threads?

he's still correct. xda was not founded to be a help site for your phone. it was meant for developers. hence the name.

Need a system dump for Sprint One development

Hello, the phone is finally available and I know some of the people who will get it are just itching to root it. Once you do, I need a dd of the system partition so I can round off the port of the Sprint One to 4.2.2.
Thanks

I would do it but I'm getting it tomorrow. I'd need a walkthrough of how to do it though :/
