Tip: Polishing your HTC One X - make it shiny and less slippery! - HTC One X

When i first got my HTC one x, i decided to directly put on a cover/case (Capdase Silicon) so the phone was protected. After a few weeks of usage i removed the case and i discovered that the backside of my one X was all "spotty". The casing had been rubbing the back of my phone in different spots all over - unevenly. Its like the matt finish was gone in some places. This made the phone look kinda ugly and dirty (although it was clean).
One day i was going to clean my camera-lens (it had gotten somewhat scratchy) so i took some Displex Display polish and started to rub with a soft cloth. By curiosity i started to rub the entire back of the phone and i saw that the spots disappeared after a while and the back of my phone quickly started to look smooth and shiny compared to the matt finish i had before. So now after like 30 minutes of rubbing and cleaning i have a shiny brand-new looking back, and the phone is much less "slippy" than before, so its much harder to drop now.
If someone want to make their phone look more shiny and make it harder for it to slip out of their hands i really recommend Displex.
Its just a tip i wanted to share. I have been searching the web for someone who also got spots from their silicon case and how to remove them, but no luck.
Regards!
Joel

Crap, I whip the case off mine and give it a wipe down quite regularly
Hate the dust build up you get around the open part of the case.

Yeah i really like the finish. I really recommend doing this.

waw so strange so it remains soft touch and grippy but looses the matt?
anyway mine is slowly degrading so I'm sure it will get there eventually lol

Less slippery?
What kind of "less slippery" will it get? Like sticky or what?
... and a bit off-topic: does anybody know how the dust gets under the screen - or how to remove it when it has gotten there?

Im not sure if you are being sarcastic or what you even mean, but yeah it looses the matt soft feeling and feels more shiny and harder to drop. Im sure you can imagine the feeling. Imagine that youre stroking the Galaxy SIII on the back, feels very similar.

anyone else tried this on the white variant?

I love the Matt finish, this i what makes it sooo good to hold in comparison to plastic toy called SGSIII.
I am not trying this.

[MOD] Carbon Fiber battery cover

MY VERY FIRST OP
Just thought i would share this with the community. It's called high performance carbon fiber vinyl. The great thing is that it does not leave any adhesive residue. I just slowly, carefully tailored it with a razor blade on top of the original battery cover. A blow dryer made the vinyl much more "compliant" and flexible. Hope you like it. I'm trying to do it with white carbon fiber vinyl next. Please let me know what you think...

I actually still have some from when I tried this on my vibrant. Didn't work out well then based that battery door was so oddly shaped. May go either this a shot. Keep us updated on how well it lasts.

If you're using the 3m di-noc variant, it's practically bulletproof. The 3m material isn't even vinyl, it's pvc, which is why it's so damn durable. I wouldn't hesitate putting it on anything I want to keep looking nice. The look isn't for everyone though. And depending on how tight/small the corners need to be, it might not be a good fit.
Because the battery cover of the t989 is textured, the vinyl does not stick very well. like I previously mentioned, I used a blow dryer to make it stick much much better. I also have it in a clear hard/soft silicone gel skin so it should last pretty much forever.
Also if you like this mod or it inspired you to try something similar please hit the thank you button...

White CF would look nice.
I will be ordering the white soon... kinda expensive... but when I am done I will show it to you...
Actually I plan on doing a white conversion for my wife... I am looking into purchasing the equipment to cut the skin for the face... I will report back soon...
For the Vibrant i know they had a white sticker you could put on the front. Sounds cheap i know but it looked pretty slick. The only thing i noticed was a small ridge around the face of the phone however that was kinda nice also for operating the phone without looking.

Thing is that this is only a sticker and unless you can get the sticker to fold under the edge of the battery cover and have the battery cover sit properly.. the stick will just peel up.

Not really... When this stuff sticks it aiint going no where (if applied properly.) Unlike stickers that wear and tear with time. This stuff is harder to remove with time... and it's not just a sticker... this is almost indestructible PVC...

just man up, don't use toooooo much solution and pat dry...
make sure you take out the battery and DON"T put it back in after as the phone will reboot.
just install and wait over night with cool air blowing over it.

The solution they have dries really quickly, they added some substance it in, so even if the tiniest bit gets in there, you shouldn't worry too much, unless you spill the whole bottle in there lol
EDIT: this is speaking from the person who DRENCHED the screen protector before applying lol

Does it go right to the edges of the screen?
I got one ordered this weekend hopefully arriving soon.
How difficult was the application? I'm not too keen on wet application (Zagg, ugh) but is it pretty much drench, lay it on the screen and shift to center ASAP? Past experience with Zaggs, I've usually had to lay it perfectly on the first try since I wouldn't be able to shift it around afterwards.
FYI, "byublue", as mentioned earlier, takes $3 off, which is slightly better than 20%.

I'm assuming all wet applications should be the same, which means that your experience with zagg will be similar with xo.
You wouldn't be able to shift it around after its applied. However, you can peel it upwards, apply some more liquid, then place it back down
Did that with my skinomi, had no problem with it, should work with all wet screen protectors
Got mine today and applied it tonight. It was my first wet application, and it was WAY easier than the (dry-apply) SGP Crystal I had on my Dinc.
It goes very close to the edge of the screen.
No orange peel
No rainbow effect
As I said before... highly recommended

So I've never done a wet install. Basically I get as much of the liquid out as possible and then wait overnight for it to settle?
I don't think people realize that, sure even though your device isn't damaged from the liquid solution that may or may have leaked into the phone. BUT it probably set off the water damage sticker inside voiding your warranty.
That's the biggest fear for most people including myself.

I wouldn't get rid of the white phone just because of that. Keep it dude. The white IMO looks way sexier then the black one. When you look at a black GS2 from far away it looks like a normal phone, some even think its a regular gs1 or gs1 4g. whereas when people see the white gs2 they actually ask what phone it is and it looks nice etc...
Also it looks really cool at night (the backlight leaks more in the white)
The shiny portions are determined to come off. you can't do nothing about it. Unless you get those rubber gel cases.

Glad you chose to stick w the white one. Good choice!
I'll see if the coating on the silver bar comes off and exposes a shiny silver instead.
Believe it or not my previous device had similar material in the battery door and that thing scratched like a cat was going at it. So I decided to scratch the coating off w my nails at work one day took me an hour or two but bam it revealed a shiny back door that doubled as a mirror!

Yeah, it'll be fine... Biggest worry is always the screen smashing.
I would assume that if the screen is fine, then the internals are fine. There are not many moving parts appart from the vibrator so it should be fine

Well screen perfectly handled it ^_^ physically internal build you say well sheilded from such things?
One more thing i noticed and unsure if i had it before.... The top of the screen got such like cut artifact like part of the picture cuts (like in bad frame sync games on pc) delay behind.... im on paranoid rom jb with custom kernel tripndtoid which i installed few hours ago....could it be the gpu drivere in this kernel?
There's a video on Youtube of a guy doing a drop test. He basically drops it from various heights onto concrete. Although the screen eventually cracks from a face down hit, it continues to work fine. I wouldn't be too worried
So no worries from drop .... Thanms
graphical artifacts (while sliding the top side of the screen was like cutting it self) its gone now after installined re-packed faux.

Good to know.... the press guy at HTC i think mentioned that they built ONE X to be "hard to break" phone... and used some special plastic which knows to avoid stress and internal damages... but hopefully this engineering also smart to avoid internal damages when it falls right on the face (screen) hehe... think so?
Whenever someone mentions possible damage to their one x, it makes me cringe! Hope its all good for you

Like others have said, if the screen is fine then internals should be fine too. The biggest risk of dropping the One X is breaking its' screen. That is why I use a thin TPU case, with a small lip around the bezel which prevents the screen touching any flat surfaces. It should protect the screen from small drops. And I also don’t have to worry much about placing it face down on a hard surface. Unless you are one of those people who absolutely hate having a case, I highly recommend using one.
The case I use looks pretty decent, better than most other TPU cases out there. The texture on it's back closely resembles the feel and look of the polycarbonate back. It also prevents the camera lens touching the table when rested on its' back. Here are couple of photos of it:

The company itself OnePlus makes the case. So they would have a phone to try it on.
This is probably why their cases are OOS as they're fixing them for quality assurance. I think I read that on the Reddit AMA post from a OPO employee.

Here it is,
Speaking of accessories, you've stated that you'll make money through accessories (and that $50 back is one clear example). Yet you seem to be having problems keeping accessories in stock. I would have purchased a screen protector with my phone if one was available at the time. What issues have you run into keeping accessories in stock?

The answer was,
Accessories not meeting our quality standards, lead times for design and manufacturing. We were modifying the design of the One right up to the last minute, which didn't make things easier. Never Settle, right?

Same here....3 corners cracked within 48 hours ! I've raised a Ticket with them and asked to be reimbursed rather than replaced as this fault seems to be happening too much !

My OnePlus Clear Case fits good but the quality is not that great it has a small crack after 2 months of usage.
You better get another case.

Same with me. Picked up a Pelosi case which I like much better. Has the same gritty style to it but a little rougher than the back of the opo.
Sent from my OnePlus One
The case I got did not even fit, pops off the bottom when I click on the top or the sides if one side is fully seated then the other side pops out. Either my phone is misshapen or the cases are utter crap
I have mine for 6 Days now, It seems a way to tight any without any dropping 3 of 4 edges are allready cracked.
