I also wants this to light!! Everyone turns around when they see the phone when the blue light is shining.
Hey i'm looking for a tweak to disable it...
A tweak exists but doesn't work on Artemis
Maybe someone should modify the DLL file to do that...
Anyone can help us, otherwise i'll sell it : this blue led is horrible !!!!!!!!!!!!
Count me in!
It must be the way to disable this blue LED!!!
I can`t read in the dark, cause every time I roll it to go to next page, this damn things flashes :-(

Excuse me? Why somebody may want to attract people attention with a blue light? Nothing else to demonstrate?
I want it off for good. Damn thing sits there lighting up all the time at night when i'm using the ball.
You can easily tweak the registy to disable the dll (lightsdr.dll) controling the backlight.
I'v tried and "it works" : keypad stays off but screen backlight is maximum and when you switch off the device you can't switch it on, you have to soft reset...
So it is not the solution but i think it's possible to modify that. But maybe we have to edit the dll file, i don't know ?
Anyone has a better solution ?
HI,
has anyone made any progress with this? The light is bloody annoying when reading ebooks in the dark, its like being in a disco!
I use to read eBooks in darkness by Haali Reader or Alreader. Both programs have tap-zones on screen for preset actions such as page down etc. Their feature is: neither the ball, nor other buttons are shining when you choose the next page by pressing tap zone responsible for page down (or page up etc.)! It's the only way to get rid of anoying shine of the crazy diam...ball!
Blue led
next someone will be asking if it can flash in changing colours.
Flashing LED's do my head in even when trying to sleep the constant flash lights up the room.
a hack would be great.
I think the Flashing Status indicator is the best thing that comes with the PDA... I dont need to switch it on or walk to the table across the room... I just simply look on the Status LED, Green, fine ill just remain seated, Orange, oh wait theres something waiting for me ^^ And at night.... How about turning your PDA to the other side? And this is not meant offensive or funny in any way!!
sorry and not taken as offensive.
I have never used the leds for anything other than annoying colours, but we live and learn.
lets just be clear you are talking about the top leds next to the speaker correct.
god i have had xda, xdaiis, xda exec and now orbit and never knew or even noticed the different colours, just that they bugged me.
I suppose read the manual is the morel of the story.
I still maintain if we could turn them on and off it would be best of both worlds so that at night they dont annoy.
erm, you guys tried keeping your thumb over the annoying blue light?

Dirty screen effect

Hi guys,
i did a search but have found nothing regarding this kind of problem.
My display shows some kind of pattern on plain colors.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16054199/screen.jpg
Its worst on grey and white, (certainly) not seen on a black screen, and its almost not visible on the highest screen brightness. But, its very distracting on everything below and also visible in pictures etc. if looked closely.
I come from a S2 which had not this effect. Is it a faulty screen or a normal effect of the pen tile matrix?
I see the same thing when my screen dims down before it goes to sleep.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Just before it goes into sleep mode? (which afaik is even darker than the darkest setting while it`s awake).
I clearly see it under medium backlight setting, the grey elements of the market are a place where i always see it.
hate to break it to you, but that's just how the screen is(especially when the brightness is turned down & on plain colors). i've had 2 Nexus' and both did the same, even the ones on display in my local verizon store are the same way.
Turn the brightness up and it will go away. It's a quirk of the screen technology.
Allright, so i have to live with that... Thanks for your answers!
Is it possible to edit the levels of the automatic screen brightness?

If you're rooted and have Clockworkmod you can use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377410
Just make sure you meet the requirements and follow the directions in the thread. I have used this on a Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus and didn't have any issues, even though it is in the CDMA form.
I am not the dev of this mod, just passing along the info.
awesome, thanks a lot!
I wonder if there's some kind of deeper hidden meaning to the pattern, some kind of subliminal message jk

[REQ] N9 lockscreen mod

Hey guys!
I recently sent my Nexus in for repairs, and borrowed a Nokia N9 from a friend to use meanwhile. Now I've got my Nexus back, and there's one thing in particular that I miss about the N9 - the clock and notifications on the locked screen.
If you haven't used or seen an N9 in action, this feature is really, really useful - and something I think could be ported to (at least) the GNex.. See attached images
When the user locks the screen, usually on other phones it just goes plain black. On the N9 however (because of the AMOLED screen) the screen is mainly black but with the clock still visible! It also shows small icons to alert the user of new messages and such. To avoid burn ins, the N9 changes the position of the clock and notification icons randomly. It also uses the proximity sensor to "know" when it's in a pocket, and then turns of the screen completely.
So devs, can this be done?

Well, to be honest it probably would create burn ins if the screen were on 24/7.. But Nokia has (seemingly) thought about this! (And I have failed to mention it in the 1st post )

Well, using the stock clock on ICS, you can set the phone into a very dim low power mode (as you mentioned). I am pretty sure the clock periodically moves around the screen to avoid burning too. It also hides the softkeys. You just need to tap the screen when it's displaying the clock overlay and it'll dim down.
I doubt it'd be viable for carrying around in your pocket due to the fact that your phone is obviously not locked in this state and it hides the notification bar so you don't have any visual feedback for notifications (besides LED flashing?). :/

Yes, the ICS standard alarm clock offers similar functionality.
As I wrote a few posts up, the N9 always displays the clock and notifications when not in a pocket (or when the proximity sensor is not blocked). But, if you take the phone and put it in your pocket it will completely turn off the screen - it would be a waste of battery to do otherwise.
Regarding the notification bar, the N9 also has icons on the lockscreen as any Android has in the notification bar - it's only showing a small SMS bubble under the clock if you have a unread text etc. etc. You wouldn't loose any functionality with a mod like this, only gain moar
Look at the attached pic in the first post to see what I mean

Yeah I get you, I'd also like this mod, I am quite often finding myself turning the phone on to get the time/see notifications so something like this would be schweet.

Thinking this needs to be seen again I'd love this so much, and I'll help out if I can.
NoLED is a nice software. It must be updated to hide the soft buttons as I can see now
My only concern is the battery consumption because the Android OS is not going to deep sleep mode if the screen is on which means the phone is always awake
Any ideas
This mod would be sweet. I had an old Nokia n95 and like that the clock was always displayed with the screen off.

that's a feature of noled and the most efficient way to unlock the phone. especially if you have noled show a clock at all times as well as with notifications. did cut my battery life by about 15-20% but with some tweaking of settings i got it down to only 7-10% which was acceptable for the added ease of use.

Control watch brightness by swipe gesture from every screen

For me one of the most useful apps since the huawei watch has no sensors.
Its a little bit tricky at first, but with a little bit of practice, this will work fine. Dont forget to set the correct possition fields in the smartphone app.
Works like a charm.

Thanks, what an awesome little app! Since you've played with it more, what are the smaller boxes at the top and bottom of the position screen are for? Ideally I'd like the slider to work across the top of the watchface, but I haven't been able to figure that out yet.
Also, in your video, you say you can customize it to show the percentage or not. The percentage shows for me, but I don't see any options to customize it at all.
No go here, installed and I can turn the brightness down but not up again. To make things worse, a cold reboot is needed to get viewable brightness (aw 1.5 stock)

It's cool but I feel it's just faster to press the button 3 times to temporary increase the brightness. Hopefully there's a light sensor on the HW2..

Not that i know of. Mine's completely stock, btw (v1.5).
EDIT: just so we're clear, you're not tapping on the screen, are you? I was referring to the metal button on the side. Press that quickly 3x and it'll increase the brightness.

Weird "light bleed" effect on home screen only...

I know this isn't really light bleed, given its an AMOLED screen... But when on the home screen with a black image, there is what looks like light bleed across the top of the screen. This only happens on the home screen. Any ideas?
I have the same effect up top... It's like the notification area is glowing a bit so you know it's there.

If you took a screenshot of your phone's screen and the effect is there, it means it's not your hardware. Screenshots don't actually capture what you see through the panel. Just like you can't see burn in with a screenshot you can't see light bleed or any kind of panel deformation as well.

Yes, I understand it's not hardware... But it's an issue none the less...
You can see it in the top of the image I attached in my original post. It is only persent on the home screen, and it's really annoying. It's extremely obvious with a black wallpaper.
Yeah it's that particular wallpaper of Pluto or Earth. I get the same thing. In fact, try sliding over to the left where Google news feed is and put it in between screens. You can see it sliding to the top. It's even more pronounced when you switch the display theme to daylight instead of automatic.
In other words, Google has to fix their wallpapers. Nothing to see here. It's not light bleed and I would change the title of this thread to make it less confusing.

It is not just the Google wallpapers... It is literally any wallpaper that's dark enough.
Then it's the Google launcher. The point is there is nothing wrong with the display.

I'm well aware is not my hardware. Read my original post, I clearly said I know it's not the display. Light bleed is not possible on an AMOLED screen... And also not selective to the home screen only.
Just because it's software doesn't mean it's not an issue..
It's not a bug, it's here to prevent Burn-in. It's also visible on the bottom. I saw it with a grey wallpaper, I didn't see the line of the nav bar but on the home screen I did. Like I said, it's here to prevent Burn-in.
