Ballistic Shell (SG) vs Otterbox Commuter vs UAG vs Element Eclipse [Final Review] - Galaxy S III Accessories

After I had been used Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 for a year, I would like to make ultimate review of these 4 premium cases in the market. I just got my Element Eclipse case last week so I would like to add in to this thread. This thread was to provide useful information about S3 casing for those who still wish to buy Galaxy S3 this year 2013. I think that Galaxy S3 still a worth gadget to own especially the i9305 model which with LTE support and 2GB RAM because the price of S3 in my country already decreased to $400. Below was the final comparison of the 4 premium and protective cases in the market :
First : Ballistic Shell (SG) series case in black colour.

Oh yeah, I would like to say that, Ballistic case was just a perfect case and it make you feel that your phone was wearing a bulletproof shirt. It protect the phone from every single drop EXCEPT angle drop. The cutting was just nice, every hole (microUSB, music jack, camera, flash, speaker, microphone) were fit perfectly. The power button was easy to press on. The only Cons for this case was it's not so pocket friendly due to the case had 4 big angle to protect the phone. :victory:
Second : Otterbox Commuter (Night Sky)
What I can say was the case was awesome. The night sky colour was perfect combo with my Pebble blue SIII. The commuter offer the same protection level with Ballistic or maybe higher as the inner silicone was harder compare with Ballistic (but this had cause the power n volume button harder to press on) The cutting for commuter was as perfect as Ballistic. The back side was a bit slippery compare with Ballistic but It's make the case more pocket friendly just bsc of that. The case was a bit harder to put in and take it out as it was VEEERY TIGHT FIT n you can really feel that the phone locked in the case. The case also offer cover for microUSB and music jack to avoid dust.
Third : UAG AERO
I had received my UAG Aero case 3 months ago and it was awesome case. This is one of the best case for Galaxy S3 with the unique & great design, moderate protection and moderate price(Amazon.com : $22++). The Aero case match with my Pebble Blue S3 perfectly. It was a modded case with 1 piece of hard silicone and 1 piece polycarbonate. The quality of the hard silicone was the best I ever seen in the S3 casing market. It was hard enough to protection your phone from drop. The case was much more thinner compare with Otterbox and Ballistic. Your phone will be tightly fits inside the casing. The matte finished on the back of the case was great but a little bit slippery. The volume and power button was very easy to press(same as Ballistic SG). The cutting was very nice and perfect fit with the audio jack, mic, microUSB, camera, flash and speaker. The 4 angles of the case give your phone a great protection while retain the beauty of the phone. (Ballistic SG had 4 big angles offer much more protection but bulky). You will feel better when you holding you S3 due to it's "square" shape design if compare with Commuter. Overall, the case was thin and very pocket friendly. It's just like a case that combine of all the Pro of the Commuter and Ballistic SG.
Fourth : ELEMENT ECLIPSE
I just received my Element Eclipse case last month and what I would said was, this case was awesome. The design of this case was sleek and nice. The case was separate into 2 part, the aluminium bezel and the back carbon fiber. Your phone will be "clip" inside the case. The main selling point of this case was the SBS (Sound Boost System) which I can said was Awesome and it's work pretty well. But the downside of this case was the kickstand. It was very thin and easily to get broke but it's work well; just you have to be careful while using it. The case was slim and thinner compare with UAG and the other case. I would said the thinnest among 4 of these cases. The case was about $65 which you may able to buy 2 to 3 UAG or Otterbox case from the market for that price. For drop protection, I think this case may not handle it well as the aluminium bezel might break your screen glass when it drop to the floor.
Conclusion
I giving 5 star for three of these premium cases as three cases also satisfy my needs. But I highly recommend to buy UAG as it's unique design and using good quality material to build the case. Just some small advices, for those wish to buy a case with Ultimate protection, easy-to-press buttons and with acceptable bulkiness; then grap a Ballistic SG. For those who plan to get a case with Ultimate protection with port's cover, acceptable bulkiness, and pocket friendly but the button is harder to press and the case was slippery, then you able recommend to go with the Otterbox Commuter. If you want to get a case with great design, offer great protection while able to retain the beauty of your phone, then grab a UAG case. Besides that, for those who got frustrated about the S3 audio issue when playing games and want your S3 to have a premium look + kickstand function while you are willing to pay for the price, then Element Eclipse will be your choice.

Ok, I have the Blue Commuter too, I like it but I'm thinking about getting the Ballistic SG(blue or black). Which one you prefer of these two??? Are the back and menu buttons too hard to press on the SG??

I more prefer the Blue commuter as it's more pocket friendly. For the button issue, the difference was very big for Commuter and Ballistic SG,. Ballistic SG was much much MORE easier to press on Bro, if you think the commuter case satisfy you then just save the money and keep using it. As I spend about 100 bucks for cases and feel regret now...

I'm new to the S3. Thanks for the review. I will be getting the black commuter

im willing to cut the first layer in order to find the room for an extended battery (anker or hyperion) and later cover it with the second layer.

Bro, it should fit perfect with Siedio holster but why not you grab a Defender series so that everything is in perfect combo..^^ You can take out the temp glass of the defender series anytime if you feel tht it's too bulky..

Bro, if you cut the gum part of the ballistic then you will definitely spoil your 20 bucks away as it's take off the beauty of the case. And I very certain that it will decrease the level of protection. Why not you get a Battery Bank instead of install a ugly and fat battery behind your phone? :silly:

Thanks. I have been leaning towards the Defender over the Ballistic SG Maxx because if the corners on the Maxx. But I liked that you could take the screen protector off of the Maxx without losing the integrity of the case. Are you saying you can take the screen protector off with the Defender and it's still a tight fit? If so I am sold!

I think Ballistic SG Case look much better!

I have both cases and am returning the Defender. Both great cases I just prefer the Ballistic over the Otterbox. I like the look better and the buttons are much easier to push on the Ballistic. BTW I am using the Zagg HD with the Ballistic , not the one provided. I have an Urban Armor on order a also. I know it's a sickness ordering all of these accessories. . Also have the 4500 extended battery from accessory swamp on order and a case for it. Lol.

Best case for evo

Trying to decide on a case for an evo. Hopefully getting an evo with my upgrade January first and just trying to do my due diligence. Have an otterbox commuter for my hero and love it.
What case do you have?
Pros and cons?
Screen protector necessary? Never had one on my hero but I know the evo's screen is much bigger.
Thanks in advance for your replies!
Aosp froyo, It's the poop!
Seidio rugged
I have the seidio rugged case for my evo. Its only about 40 bucks off ebay. I like it better then both the otterbox and ther ballistic. It looks better...has more protection and if for any reason you ever have to take it off its alot easier to remove then the other cases.

I have 2 Seidio Rugged cases and they both fell apart with mild use. The tabs on the end snapped off and the covers are peeling. The thin rubber also tore off with time.
I have 2 Trident Cyclops cases now, they feel like they are built much better. It seems slightly sleeker but I think it offers at least as much protection.
For heavy duty use, go Ballistic.

i agree with this.
go with trident or ballistic.
personally i love my trident cyclops.
With the Trident do you not have the rainbow issue on screen from screen protector?
Also heard that pictures from the camera have a blue tint with the Cyclops on.
Aosp froyo, It's the poop!
the ballistic has more protection than any case out right now. the design of the ballistic is delightful. it is EXTREME protection. it has a built in screen protector and an additional screen protector thats optional. you can drop the phone from the ceiling to your floor and it will save the phone.. i have a mint grey ballistic case im selling for $30 bux shipped in the classifieds. smoke it over and look at the photos to check it out.
without the silicon jacket the ballistic case is close in size to the otterbox defender. you can use the included holster with or without the silicon jacket if you dont need the full protection. all ports are covered with the silicon jacket on (rubber flaps over the jack and bottom ports) the camera, LED lamps and speaker on back are all protected. the
IMO the Ballistic case is a much superior product. second to that would be the otterbox....
Thats weird. I work construction and trust me ive pushed this case to the limit and its held up everytime. Ive had it since june and it still fits just as snug as day1. As far as the ballistic my co-worker had a ballistic on his htc incredible and his cracked while in his pocket simply by stepping up a latter. The preesure of his jeans pushing down was enough to crack it. I dropped my seidio down a elevator shaft and simply scuffed my belt holdster

yeah, sometimes i get a rainbow effect in certain areas, even with the premium protector. i don't really notice it when the screen is on though.
the blue tint is from the piece of plastic they put inside to cover the camera and led's. i just popped it out.
I think it really depends on what you're going to be doing with your phone, where you're going to be most of the time, and how likely you are to drop it.
To say that any one case is the "best" case for the evo (and any phone/thing you put a case on lol) would be wrong, imo.
Say you're looking for looks -- you'd go for something like a barely there from casemate
Say you're looking for full on rugged protection -- you'd go for something like the ballistic
For reference, I've heard not great things about build quality of the Defender from Otterbox, and Seidio cases. *anecdotal, so take it as you will*
As I said in another thread, I have the Impact series case from Otterbox.
Fits my needs, so it's the "best" case for me.

Unless I'm missing something, they don't make any Ballistic cases for the Incredible...
Ballistic does not make cases for the Incredible. The only HTC phone they have a case available for is the HTC EVO. www.goballisticcase.com
I'm currently using an Otterbox Defender for mine and its holding well. I'm interested in a Ballistic HC because since they introduced it the case looks like a step up from the Defender. I've seen videos and read the personal reviews of people who have had both and the HC is "better" according to most. It all depends on where your phone will be and what you'll be doing with it. I don't really care much about the size. I want a case that is going to protect my $500 investment.
If you want the best protection for your EVO I'd say Ballistic HC or Otterbox Defender. Each is $50 or you can check out the Trident Cyclops which is only $34.95.
if you dont mind the size, the Ballistic blows away the otterbox and the Trident for protection.....
I prefer the Fishbone case...I paid $12 bucks for it and so far it is great for me.

I had the tough case for my Samsung Vibrant and I loved it.
I like the platinum gun metal case I got when I got the phone.
It's lightweight and thin. There is felt on the back inside so it doesn't scuff up your phone. The corners of the front also help to keep my invisible shield in place in case it decided to wander around in the heat.
best case for me
I got a Seidio Innocase for X-mas to replace the one I got with the phone. That, plus an Invisishield is all the protection I need and it suits me. I wanted to try the Impact Series Otterbox, so I ordered one. They sent me a Defender Series and when I called them up they just sent me the right one, no questions asked. I have them both still, but don't use them. The Defender is, well, I just don't drive a tank or work in a war zone, so I don't really need it (and yes, the kick stand on that case is an absolute joke...). The Impact Series Otterbox just sticks in my pocket too much and I can't get it out as easily, but it looks adequate I suppose. The Innocase is great for me, doesn't stick in my pocket, has felt on the back so it doesn't scratch or scuff my device and isn't too bulky. That's why Santa got me another one.
P.S. I think the snap in the back slide-in broke b/c I was pulling it apart quite often to do battery pulls (cause not all ROMs are stable...) and didn't just leave it out of the case like I should have... Only time I've taken the new one off was tonight to put my new Seidio extended 1750 mAh Innocell battery Santa brought in before bedtime to charge over night (ok, maybe one other time...)
Not Swyped from anywhere cause my battery is being conditioned (duh!)
I have the Innocase active in blue.It came down to what I really wanted the case to do for me or rather my phone as well.
I wanted protection first and for most, then comfort in my hand and then looks.
It is a little bulky but that bulk is my protection from waste high drops. My 3 year old nephew has tested it out for me by throwing it on the hard wood floor standing on the kitchen chair...lol
It feels really good to the touch and unless your hands are on the smaller side, you will enjoy the fit.I wear a large glove so it fits me good.
It looks great. The fit and finish are very good.It will take getting use to.A little harder push to operate the power button but a fingernail tip makes it easier.
Now for the wearing it issue...It,while in the case on your side will be odd at first.I am a bigger guy,5`11 228 but my waste is 36.I notice it a lot more than say a smaller framed 150 pounder would but,it does stay put on my belt.I just rotate the top of the phone 90 degrees facing the front of my body and it rides that way with no issues at all.
Worth the money in my opinion.

Alternative Otterbox Suggestions

I have had the Otterbox defender on since day one. And it protects great. Today i took it off to swap my battery and remembered how great this phone looks without it. But I'm not one to go unprotected.
I'm looking for suggestions on other cases. Something that protects but necessarily the bulk of the Otterbox. I work a office job so rugged case isn't too necessary.
Must be compatible with the extended battery.
I was looking at the SGP Neo hybrid cases but they say coming soon on the website.
Please share your suggestions. Thanks guys.

Hey, i have the commuter case on for a few days now and i love it. It adds just enough bulk and size to the phone to make is sit and feel perfect in my hand. But everyones hands are different so not all will think its great. I did however order the Neo Hybrid case in Reventon yellow and should have it tomorrow or saturday and ill let you know how it is and feels along with some pics, and possibly a small review.
But so far i LOVE the commuter case. should take a look at it. i wrote up a review but i have to do a few more posts before xda lets me post it lol
I have the Otterbox Defender as well and am surprised at how much I like it... Typically like nothing on my phones but gotta have protection on this beauty...
Just got an Incipio Silicrylic in the mail to try... Definitely less bulk than the Otterbox... You can actually see some of the sexy lines of the Nexus with this case.... The Incipio provides some protection, as it does have at least some hard plastic to it, but not anything close to the Otterbox.. Not sure that my GNex would survive a fall on a hard surface in the Incipio....
Problem with the Incipio is that it will not fit in the Otterbox holster or the Verizon holster that I already have, so probably will go back to the OB Defender...
Anybody interested in making me an offer on a brand new Incipio or Verizon Case & Holder I will listen....
One reason for my Otterbox purchase was the holster. But i have never used it. It's too big to have clipped on my side.
I know no case will protect like the defender but im good with my phones to get a scaled down case. I thought about the commuter but not sure how much size difference there is.
What price you looking at for your incipio?

I watched a review and it said with the extended battery the plastic outer shell just fit tightly against the silicone as it does at the top. Did you notice this?

Fit tight w/extended battery in, but not a problem in my opinion... I would bet it might even loosen up a bit over time...
I like the Incipio's look and feel... Much smaller size than OB, but have to have a holster to carry my GNex..
It doesn't have quite the amount of protection (ie not waterproof) like the defender but soon Ballistic will release their case for the Galaxy Nexus. I have a Galaxy Nexus on the way and will be giving my Nexus S to my wife. My wife is like a phone's worst nightmare. She seems to always be dropping them and my two kids are both under 3 and the oldest loves to snatch our phones. I got the Ballistic case for the Nexus S for her and after putting it on yesterday I'm a believer. I already have it covered completely by Ghost Armor skin, and with the Ballistic case it's just very well protected. The bumpers on the corners are amazing and so is the fit and finish. Makes the phone pretty bulky (not as much as the defender) but it makes the phone much nicer to hold and type on. I would recommend it for the Galaxy Nexus. I have a TPU case on order but will pick up the Galaxy Nexus version Ballistic case too once it is released.

Do you have any quick impressions/pics of the Neo Hybrid? It'll be interesting to see how well it fits the LTE GNex since it was designed for the GSM non-extended battery GNex.
I have the Incipio Silicrylic (aka Double Cover, VZW repackaged). It's a nice case and it fits well on the phone. It doesn't add too much bulk. I like that the hard cover goes around the corners, unlike the Otterbox Commuter. Cutouts for the phone are nice. No need to mess around with clumsy flaps. And the buttons work well under the silicone cover. Great case for less. I got mine at the Verizon store for $20 +tax after a discount. I don't use a holster, but I am looking into getting an XO Skin.
Another alternative that I was initially looking at was the Seidio Surface Combo. It's a hard soft-touch case with a holster, if you need the holster. They also sell it without.

Case with holster (sorry for another case thread)

Hey everyone,
I am looking for some feedback on this case: http://www.ebay.com/itm/390492036942?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Or point me in a direction of someone who make a case with a holster. I really like the UAG case but I don't want a case and then buy an even bigger holster to put the phone on my side.
Any help is appreciated!
Thank you
imo dont expect top notch quality with those china items.. the Ballistic SG series has holster, the OB defender (imo its ugly) lol..
http://www.goballisticcase.com/products/samsung-galaxy-s-3-ballistic-sg-maxx-series-case
I have been through about 6 cases.
I wanted full coverage with a holster. Sadly most cases that offer decent protection add a ton of bulk.
This Ballistic case adds very little bulk. Your phone still feels slim and comfortable. The Otterbox adds way too much bulk and the built-in screen protector is garbage. The Ballistic screen protector is a separate piece and can be left out. It is still not the clearest.
If you want options in a case then go with this:

It has a hard shell for everyday. Then a silicon surround and plastic exo skeleton.

If you want a great case definitely go with any Seidio case, plus there holsters are top notch and very sturdy! I'm using this one http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-surface-case-holster-black-p/bd2-hr3ssgs3-bk.htm and I got it off Amazon for $12 shipped for the case and holster. It barely feels like there is even a case on the phone. I've been using Seidio cases and clips since my old treo pro.

It barely feels like there is even a case on the phone. I've been using Seidio cases and clips since my old treo pro.

DO these have the rubberized coating? or is it actual black material
Seidio is rubberized

The GS3 otter box defender holster looks to have the same sort of phone-side clip as the incredible s does. It's incredibly fragile and will break off if you look at it funny. I went though 3 of the holsters in a matter of months (their warranty service is top notch at least) before giving up on it and using a commuter case with a pouch holster until I replaced that phone.
I just ordered a seidio extended battery and one of their active cases, so I'll give my opinion of it when it arrives. The clip is an entirely different design.

yeah i read about the fragile clip and about the rubber getting loose in few weeks. Thats the reason i asked for a refund from the seller on ebay. He gave me a full refund, and the next thing I know a week later i received the case in the mail lol.. so got it free basically. Lack of communication on their end i guess. But overall I dont like the case much. I would give the ballistic a try.
Does anyone know if the BALLISTIC SHELL GEL (SG) SERIES will fit in the Maxx holster for $70?

Ok well I am going to order the one from ebay and will take the $4 loss instead of spending $70 for a case and holder....if the ebay one is crap I am going to go with the UAG.
Thanks for the help I guess there is not that much demand for a case and holster together....

Case-mate Pop! case review with lots of pictures

After using Case-Mate Tough case, you can read my full detailed review here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37884573&postcount=105), I decided to check out its sibling - Case-Mate Pop! What got my interest was a kick stand and a molded single piece design. Here is a link to Pop! case website - http://www.case-mate.com//samsung-galaxy-note-2-cases/case-mate-samsung-galaxy-note-2-pop-cases.asp
Being already impressed with a level of details and high quality of Tough design, I can tell you that Pop! is on the same level. Pop! is very slim with similar dimensions in comparison to Tough. What sets them apart is that Pop! has a molded single piece design with outer plastic shell and inner rubber lining. Outer side is very shiny and smooth, and plastic feels very sturdy. Being shiny and black with a color I got makes it somewhat a fingerprint magnet, but it wipes off very easy. I also think that with time you might see some scratches, but it will not be too bad because the case has a brilliantly designed rubber handles that extend to the back thus lifting a phone off the surface when placed back down. It's one of those great engineered details that a lot of other manufactures don't account for since everybody always concerned with a lip on the front of the phone to keep the screen off the surface, rather than back. So in addition to giving a great side grip, these side handles keep the phone off the surface, make sure the phone will not slide on the surface, and make it very sturdy to keep the phone on it's back without wobbling.
Also, the kickstand is completely recessed in the back of the case without any need for through cutout (another great design detail). The kick stand itself has a rubber tip to keep it from sliding when extended. Due to the slim design, I wouldn't consider this kick stand to be the sturdiest and I have to point out - the rubber tip/flap doesn't have longevity in it's attachment. Since you do need to use a nail to lift it up (and its not that bad actually), its easy to tear off. But even without this rubber tip/flap - kickstand functionality is not compromised and it should work regardless.
Inner rubber part of the shell is nicely textured. I think its one of the Case-Mate signatures to have some funky inner design. That works well by reducing the weight of the case and gives a better cushion if you drop it on the back. The rubber material is softer than one in Tough (where in case of Tough they used just a bumper which is hard tpu-like rubber). The lip height is the same as on Tough, gives you enough clearance when you put the phone down on its screen. Cutouts are perfectly aligned with adequate room. I always have to note that micro-usb opening is wide enough for aftermarket connectors, mic openings generous not to cause any echo or sound obstruction, s-pen will go in/out without a problem. I also want to mention that because rubber material is softer than Tough case, the volume/power buttons are easier to push - those work perfectly!
The fitment with a phone is like a glove, a very tight one! Once you insert the phone, it almost becomes like a tight skin around it. As a matter of fact, to take the phone out I had to push slightly on a camera lens. Typically this will wear off after a few fitments, but its a very good indicator how well the case will stay with a phone if you drop it. In terms of protection, I feel Tough and Pop! will protect it on the same level, maybe with some advantage to Tough design since the rubber bumper is harder. But overall these are both very slim and light cases that should protect your phone in style during everyday use.
Below you will find a number of pictures, including a few with comparison between Pop! and Tough.

Thanks for the nice review and pics. I have the Blue Tough case and I can say it is the best case I have ever used so far. I have tried the Utterbox commuter which is utter garbage in that it is very thick and very slippery (even when dry). I also have a hybrid ebay case which also is good but as thick as the otterbox. I also have the original Samsung TPU case which is great, but does not offer much protection on the sides/corners just like the very thin ebay cases. I also have a few bumper cases, which went straight to the bin after a few hours of use.
Can you cipher what is written on the inside of the POP ?
It's Show Time !!!!!
edit:
I really love the Tough case, I ordered another one in black.....

Uh, you are right. Inside of POP! its written "It's Show Time", and inside of Tough "Tough Love" Another freaking awesome design detail.
Yeah, Tough case is at the top if you are looking for slimmest case with decent protection. Pop! has it's own benefits, and so does UAG. I'm right now using Tough and UAG. Don't need any other case, unless if Case-Mate will release Tough Xtreme for Note 2 That would put Defender to shame!!!

The back of UAG is a little bit slippery but I have been told it wears off after a short time. Plus due to its little rubber feet it will grip with a surface (unlike Commuter slip'n'slide). Plus, the front bumper/lip helps with a grip. Just look up my UAG review post with comments. Regarding side-by-side pictures, here you go, I had those taken all together but didn't post in original review above since I wanted to keep it in case-mate family. But nevertheless, check it out:

I know, usually its an easy decision when dealing with cheap ebay cases where you can get a bunch and then decide later. These are pricier quality cases, each one with it's own feel, function, fit, and level of protection - and often you just need to hold and to feel it in our hand and stick it in your pocket rather than look at the pictures. And as you know what might work for one person might not work for you.
nice review man, and great pictures!
I like my case mate tough a lot, and decided to get a trident aegis; 20 bucks on ebay.
I have had a few trident cases, so I know they are sweet..

That UAG case is just way overpriced for what you get...
i had the epic touch version of this. the rubber on the kickstand will eventually wear away and slip out automatically after a few months of use.

But then kickstand should still work without that rubber tip? Plus, you get 1yr warranty if anything.
I so wish the Pop was not so glossy on the back (in both white and black). Totally love the cover other than that. I currently have the the Seidio Surface in blue and it's pretty badass as well. Love the kickstand for this screen size.. Makes media consumption so much easier, especially when you're flying or sitting anywhere with a surface to keep the fone on. The one thing I did not like as much bout the Seidio was that the cover is comprised of two piece (top and bottom) and it tends to pop open sometimes.. Which is why I was so excited to see this CaseMate Pop. But not too sure bout the glossy back... would be a total fingerprint magnet I assume...

Why not look into Case-Mate Tough? That one is slimmer than Pop!, and although 2-piece design - feels like a slim one piece. I reviewed it HERE. It has a textured design that feels very nice in your hand and not slippery at all, although no kickstand. Right now Case-Mate is running 1-day only 30% sale with coupon code FLASH13
Regarding Seidio Surface, you know you can add CONVERT kit on top of it to turn into a super protection brick? It will add bulk, but external CONVERT layer will keep Surface from popping open and adds extra drop protection with a new bigger holster. I'm getting CONVERT Value Pack for review soon, and will post it in the forum once I have it. Now, Note 2 users have a lot of choices

Thanks so much for the code and the advice. Appreciate it!
To answer your question, I wasn't considering the Tough case for that very reason; no kickstand. But with this 30% discount coupon, I think I might just pull the trigger. Always good to have multiple cases
I had white pop case then switched to the defender just bc i work in construction. I feel the pop would of protected my phone about in about 90% of the enviroments i work in but if my phone was to fall out my pocket while in an attic, rafters or just really high in general i dont think the pop would have protected my phone from the drop. I will say the pop was WAYYYY more comftorable in my hand then the defender. It slides on and off the phone very easily and i really liked the kickstand.

Hmm... on second thoughts, I'll wait for something with the tactile feel of the Tough case and a kickstand. A 30% discount on a $40 case is $28 but I just checked and Amazon is selling the same case for $22 - http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...922617&sr=8-1&keywords=case+mate+tough+note+2

Wow, those are great values for 1/2 off. I remember they had FRIENDS50 coupon for 50% off from the website. On Amazon, you don't even need a coupon, and typically returns are hassle free (although this one is not fulfilled by Amazon). One thing to keep in mind as a main difference between Tough and Pop. Tough will be slimmer and lighter, no kickstand, 2 piece design, and nice textured back. Pop has a shiny smooth back that will collect more fingerprints and scratches, it's a bit thicker with a better grip side handles, single piece design that grips the phone very tightly, and a kickstand that practical only in landscape mode, and push buttons that are easier to press because its a softer rubber material versus Tough tpu-like bumpter. Quality of both is superb, design details are very unique, and they both will offer equal level of drop protection, although as bmoreboy02 pointed out - I wouldn't trust it in places where you are around construction or outdoor activities.

Cases cases cases...

I emailed Seidio and told them they need to make a CONVERT case. Its basically the protection of the defender, but the ability to remove a layer and still have a Incipio Feather on without going caseless. I won't hold my breath.
Gone are the days of leather customization on vajacases.com.
Anyone out there have a great pocket pouch they'd recommend? Or a holster for the Incipio Feather?
Really wish the accessory selection was better. Guess its due to droid maxx only being on one carrier mostly.

I love the VZW bumper. It protects the screen and corners from drops, but still shows the carbon fiber back.

Holsters and pockets? I leave those at home with my pocket protector..
I have the Griffin Reveal and I like it. It shows off the back as well. It's kinda like a rubber bumper with a clear TPU back.

Completely Agreed with your thoughts...its really very hard one to find suitable accessories for the Maxx as the reason is..it is mostly on single carrier...and I feel that its a big problem for every Maxx user
first ever contract i signed ever in my name want max protection otterbox defender, i usually dont go that route they r sometimes dust magnets etc, but this seems to be alot better then any other defender dust doesnt stick to it, screen protector doesnt scratch as easy.
I know right. The defender is so much more improved than the gnex one. Less rubbery so less dust. Also doesn't peel away. And love the kick stand.
Sent from my XT1080m using Tapatalk
i used to have problem with them like not closing as tight like it would be loose like it doesnt snap shut all way or w/e doesnt happen i dunno what they did different hope they do it though for now on lol
Here's a post about all of my cases.
Green Trident Cyclops
Very nice screen protector. Works well with pre installed verizon anti glare protector. Buttons work well. Very hard to remove though. Covers ports well. Doesn't feel as bulky as otterbox commuter. Bottom lip isn't tapered as much as the defender so hitting home recent or back isn't as easy.
Red Qmadix S Series
Good all around coverage. Side Buttons press easily but not the best. Easy to install and remove. No display protection. No port coverage.
Cyan / neon blue Incipio Feather
Favorite case. Few finger prints. No color peeling. Doesn't protect top display bezel though. Easiest to install and remove. Great for pockets. I use this case I the most. Cleans up with dish soap.
Black Otterbox Defender
Awesome kickstand belt clip. Improved design from earlier models. Much stronger and hasn't broken. No problems with screen protector coming off but doesn't work as well with the pre installed. Have to press slightly harder. Still wouldn't chance using this with naked display. Have had dust or sand get between and scratch display. Happy with holster doesn't block any ports.
Can't really comment on durability with the Trident or Qmadix as these two were Christmas gifts. I did notice the Qmadix had a scratch but it's solid not painted so not noticeable.
Ideally my case would be a Seidio Convert (or whatever they call them these days). But they don't exist. Or a Vaja case. But this is a carrier specific device so we won't see a variety like the moto X or gs4.
Lastly none of these cases have caused any damage to the phone. I've seen many people with cases develop wear lines especially with the Griffin cases.
Hope this finds you well and enjoying your device!

Strange. I felt that the commuter was too bulky compared to the galaxy nexus version.

Hello, is there a case that's very slim with good protection and can be put on a car mount?
Thanks.
I've tried two cases for the Droid Maxx. There aren't a lot of options out there, but there are some pretty good ones.
I originally bought a Diztronic TPU case, mostly because the price was right (<$10). As an advantage, it was very, very thin. Thanks to the form factor, the phone still fit in the clamp-style car mounts I had, and played nicely with wireless chargers. But the thickness, I'm sure, limited the protection it offered. Still, I dropped by phone on concrete from waist height a couple times with no visible damage. My biggest annoyance with the case was that it didn't seem to play nice with my Skinomi screen protector. The screen protection has a lip that extends over the front of the phone about a millimeter. Because the case is fairly flexible, hitting the power of volume buttons would sometimes warp the case, and peel back the screen protector.
Next I tried the Incipio Dual Pro case. This case is slightly thicker, although so far I haven't noticed the (slightly) added bulk being a problem with any of my other accessories. It still fits in the mounts, and wireless charging still works. While I haven't done any tests to confirm this, I strongly suspect this case offers a fair bit more protection than the Diztronic case. This case has a bit more structure to it. There's not much of a lip that extends over the front of the phone- instead the plastic shell seems to hold the silicone core in place. So, this case doesn't seem to have any problems with screen protectors.
Both cases have their advantages and disadvantages, but personally, I like the Incipio Dual Pro better. I would have gotten it originally, but I expected it would be thicker. The Diztronic is a good ultra-thin case for those of you who don't need a lot of protection, but keep in mind the problem with screen protectors. If you use on of Zagg's smaller "case-friendly" screen protectors you'd probably be fine, but I prefer the Skinomi ones.
Just received my order from Xtreme Guard. 90% off Sale got two sets of front and back for my maxx and one for my Nexus 7 2013.
Wet installation... Very nerve racking but I did it. Thought the rippled M logo was going to be an issue but it was smooth sailing.
Going from the anti glare verizon ones I must say is a big adjustment. But now I am going to order a bumper and see how it feels with the protection on the back.
My defender just began to have issues last week. Two of the secure tabs broke off. Not a big deal just exchanged it.
Next new phone I buy I am getting a dual pro direct from Incipio that way it has a lifetime warranty (even if my cyan blue gets discolored they would replace it).

Sigh. These xtreme guard protectors are not compatible with my Trident cyclops or otterbox defender. The two protectors stick to each other.
Oh well. Still not a loss because my Nexus 7 2013 is protected.
Now I have to send the nexus in to get multi-touch fixed.... Lol...

This company is really making money off me. I ordered two of the HD dry install protectors. They are compatible with the other cases with built in screen protectors. But no matter how it's installed it's still too big. And I'm left with a tiny perimeter unattached at the edge. No dust has a accumulated underneath yet though.

I'm in the same boat...
In addition to being too wide, their XT1080 screen protectors (dry + hd) completely cover up the proximity sensor at the top left. My old protector which was scratched had a cut out for that sensor.
I bought a protector for my surface pro 2, and that has an annoying seam/horizontal line about 1/3 of the way down. The best I can tell, some sort of seam or manufacturing defect. Since these were 90% off that leaves very little incentive/motivation to actually return anything :-<
