Is my xperia play fixable? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a used xperia play and it works and looks decently nice, however the speaker doesn't give out sound, I tested it using the service code on the phone (*#*#7378423#*#*), nether the speaker or stereo speaker (in the service test mode) give out sound, whats weird tho is that yesterday i was playing the installed tetris game and it had sound but today i tried it again and no sound, also the phone does give out sound when i go in the sound settings and adjust the volume of ringtone and alarm. this issue looks like it can be easy to fix (but i dont know for sure).
Now on to my main concern, the xperia play wont recognize the micro sd card i bought new (32gb c4), i have researched this issue extensively because without the micro sd i can't really do anything with the phone (gaming wise) and i know the back cover has to be properly placed because there is a little white switch that needs to be pressed by the cover. the cover is placed correctly but the phone wont do anything, its like there ins't anything inside the sd slot, it gives me no massage at all and I fear the sd module is damaged. i looked inside the sd slot and i can't really see anything strange about it. I now the sd card is not the problem because today i tested it on my friend's xperia ray and it work perfectly (it also works on laptop, in fact i formatted the memory to FAT32 with the allocation to 32 bits, stander stuff here), i'm really hoping this is a software related problem, i say this because when i wanted to restore the phone using the update service program from sony. had to press the back button while connecting the usb and then update service gave me the message "the phone has a modified firmware and can not do restored" or something along those lines.
the person whom i bought the phones says he was restoring to factory when in the middle of the process the battery fell out and then when he turned it on he would only get the sony logo, that sounds like total BS but i went with it anyways, so we went to a place that fixes phones and they got it fixed in an hour and they said someone tried to install a custom firmware but failed and got it in that state (im guessing they just downgraded the phone) but in the end i got a good deal, he paid for the repair. so here i am in the xda forums, my last resort, i already asked in the sony foums, sony's twitter support team, and no one has answered me.
So, to make things short, i need help installing the original firmware and bestially restore the phone to its legit state in hopes of getting this fixed, and if that doesn't work, can anyone point me in the right direction for repairing the speaker(s) and the micro sd slot module?
like i said, everything else about the phone works great, wifi, bluetooth, touchscreen, vibration, buttons, everything but those two things work, also im new to android but i am not a noob, ive jailbroken iphones before, tweak the system files, unlocked it, etc.
P.S: i turned the phone off and then on and tried tetris again and now the sound works, can someone explain this to me?

Phone Sound Problem?...

I have a problem with my O2 XDA IIs, the sound works perfectly for playing MP3's etc both on the internal speaker and on the external plugin headset!
Where's the problem? I hear you asking!
Well, the sound does not work at all when in a call, the caller can not hear me and I can not hear them, although the call is connected OK. The only time I can hear the caller or be heard is if I plug in a sync cable or put the device in the sync station, at that point it works ok when in a call. I belive this to be a power requirement as it also works when I plug in the car charger?
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this problem, it has only been occuring for the last few days and I have not changed anything during this time which could have caused the problem... I know that's what they all say, but it's true this time!!!
Have you tried getting rid of unusual programs running in background? (Try 'Startup Manager' to take off some startup programs) or wait until any expert put a word on it.
There are only 2 entries starting and they are both the same as they have always been, the problem does appear to be quite random, as though every time I remove the sync cable something either happens or does not happen??
Does anyone know if there are any switches or anything attached to the sync connector on the phone which might be causing the problem?
I had a problem not unlike what you describe. It started after the battery ran very low on the phone while I was away from home.
The Phone would only work while in the cradle, and wouldn't work when out. The Speaker Phone function disappeared also.
I re-flashed the ROM.
I downgraded the ROM.
Re-formatted the storage card.
Took the Phone apart looking for a switch that might be stuck.
All to no avail.
Contacted Qtek who wanted me to return the phone.
So I tried one last thing before I gave up.
I left the phone with the Battery attached to run down again. (I left it for about a week)
re-charged the phone and its been fine ever since.
The conclusion I came too was it is a software register on the phone that was corrupted and the total drain of power cleared it.
When you ran the battery totally flat did this not clear all the stored data and installed apps etc? Only I'd rather not do that if I can avoid it?
Couldnt tell you sorry, I had already lost all data/apps with the reflash/formating.
No worries, if you hear or find anything elsewhere about this problem please let me know as this is getting very very annoying now!!!
Patch
Hi guys
This is a tipical problem of the BA. I had the same problem at the begining. This are the steps to solve it:
1. Backup your data (only contacts & meetings)
2. Hard reset of the device (press micro + On/Off button + reset)
3. Install the "PDA2k_UniDirectional_Patch.sa.cab" patch
4. Do not restore a whole backup (you will have the same problem again)
So it would be work fine. If you upgrade to the lastest ROM you will get this bug fixed too.
Good luck!
Hi i have the same problem and try a diferent approach.
Upgrade radio to version 1.15.
Problem appear to be solved.
I upgrade the rom yesterday, once i have change the board, and downgrade the rom.
What is this "PDA2k_UniDirectional_Patch.sa.cab" and what does it do exactly? As I'm already using the Radio 1.15.00.
Sound Patch
This file fixes the problem when you do not listen to the person who has called you.
You can download it from:

Evo 4G randomly resets itself

Hey all,
I've been using my HTC EVO 4G for quite some time now (nearly a year), and just recently it started acting up. As the title implies, my phone randomly shuts itself off and starts itself back up-- for reasons I cannot determine. Usually when it does it once, I find that it goes on a rampage and shuts itself off before the phone even starts up. It will continue to reset itself for 3 or 4 times before it starts working properly.
I've honestly no idea what could be wrong with it. When this first started happening, I was running Fresh ROM 4.2 (but I've already been running it for a while-- it couldn't have been the ROM), and the default kernel for Fresh. I decided to boot into recovery for an earlier version of the ROM, but to no avail.
Finally, I decided to get a whole new ROM (am currently running on Synergy) and kernel altogether (currently running on netarchy kernel), but again to no avail.
Of course, I did a complete data wipe upon installing Synergy, so it can't have anything to do with phone's software, can it? I'm assuming it must be something physical; and am seriously considering purchasing a whole new SD card. (About the SD card: whenever I try mounting my EVO as a disk drive, immediately after I select the 'Mount' option, a notification saying 'Preparing SD card' pops up, and fails to ever mount it. This, I believe, is due to the fact that I'm not on a .92 Hboot, but it is nevertheless worth noting.)
Has anyone else ever had this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: The fact that I can't mount my phone as a disk drive is actually a problem in itself... I need to convert to Hboot .92, but my file system isn't FAT32 (at least, I'm assuming so, since it doesn't load my PB31I.zip IMG in Hboot) and I can't convert it if it doesn't connect to my computer... Guess I'll go back to Fresh.
Does your phone kind of heat up sometimes? Like in the front of the screen? My did and it turned out to be a physical problem. Bad charger port, sounds weird but thats what I was told. You might need to buy another one.

Yeah, I had originally thought it was an over-heating problem as well. It used to happen most of the time while I was driving-- with the sun hitting the phone directly. However, it's been doing it in-doors with A/C and virtually every other place . I just took notice of it in the car because that's when music was playing.
Ultimately, I might just consider transitioning to the Galaxy SII.
Thanks for reply. <3
I've been having same problem had my evo since day 1 and never any problems up unitl a few months ago.but now i definetly know i need a replacement mine phone gets super hot as well originally thought it was the rom but went back to stock all for nothing because the problem still remained
Is call power cycle the only way to fix it is to get a refurbish phone from sprint they know about it, they will do a test on it and order you another phone with the new 2.3.3 that cant be rooted, is not the sd card it is something on the hardware motherboard

[Q] Xperia play screen problem

Sorry if a thread has been started on this before, but i cant seem to find any solution to my problem. Seems to be quite unique.
Basically a few days ago i took my play outta my pocket and the screen was totally unresponsive, the phone itself still worked, when opening the joypad i could still use the phone as normal.
The first thing i tried was updating the phone to the newest firmware, this did help i got functionality back, but the problem was not entirely fixed. I now have a dead spot on my screen that is totally unresponsive. When you open up the dial pad the area where numbers 4,5, and 6 doesn't work at all.
I initially thought that this was a virus of some kind but from scanning the SD card and Installing an antivirus on the phone and scanning it i have not found a thing. So now i think it must be Drivers or something. So now i am attempting to flash the phone back to 4.0.A.2.368 in hopes that the older software may fix it. Im pretty sure that this cannot be hardware, surely the whole screen would die if it was ?
Any thoughts ? a quick response would be very much appreciated as i am supposed to be selling it tomorrow !!!!
O a little extra thing, removing the SD card initially seemed to help but not anymore.
PHONE SPECS
R800i running 2.3.4, build number 4.0.2.A.0.42
UK phone
Please help !
EDIT:Ok successfully flashed phone back to 2.3.3 but the problem still occurs
You can try to dial *#*#7378423#*#* in your dial pad, select service test, then touchscreen and check the screen there. Perhaps there you'll learn if it's a hardware or software fault.

screen wont turn on...

i dropped my phone and since then the screen refuses to turn on. it seems like everything is working fine except the screen. calls are coming through and im able to answer the call as long as i swipe at the right spot. is this something that can be fixed instead of swapping out the phone? if this cant be fixed and i have to get a new unit, can the sprint technicians be able to somehow transfer everything over to the new phone? btw, my phone is rooted with cwm installed and nandroid backed up to internal storage since i have no sd card installed.
If you can connect via USB you can grab the data from internal storage possibly, but it sounds like, at best, your display has a hardware issue ( strange that the touch works but the display doesn't)
But I see a trip to the phone store in your future.
If you can, I'd recommend booting to the boot loader (pwr-voldown) and using Odin to flash a stock from first so you can at least have the chance of getting a warranty replacement. ("Not sure what happennes, the screen just doesn't work anymore...")
Good luck.

Sounds like something with the connection between the LCD and the motherboard. You could get lucky and only have to reconnect the LCD's ribbon connection, however, if the LCD is cracked in any way, it would have to be a replacement, that is, if they allow replacements on cracked LCDs. Every ASC location is different. The only way to transfer anything would be to connect it to a PC, like he said in the above post, and hope it connects as USB storage by default. Copy everything to the desktop and then drag-and-drop onto the new phone's storage. But dude, get an SD card. It really makes EVERYTHING so much easier when transferring to a new phone.
The LED back light system and the touchscreen are independent of each other. Sounds to me like the connection to the back lights and the power got disconnected.

that is exactly what it seems like. can i take it into a sprint store and have it repaired or do i need to send it off?
As long as there is no physical damage then I would say its repairable. If you have ever seen a smartphone dissembled you should go check it out on you tube. Alot of the connectors are very small and easily popped out.

random reboots and Reasons/Solutions

hi i upgraded my xps lt26 i on ics to build (ICS)6.1.a.2.55 ota and it was so far going smooth with no mess around till yesterday night
my battery was drained after a whol day use and i came back home left phone plugged for charge(switched off) turned on later on, the phone then stayed for half an hour and then the problem started
phone started rebooting and random boots
the phone since then is behaving like that
i left it like that at 11 o clock the battery was drained(morning)
i was upset.
i figured out the phone is switching off it self, searched out to find the issue but no luck, well
then i noticed that the phone is saying sim error( only once i seen this) i removed the sim card( which actually is not cutted the way it should be, means it was a full sime card( regular orange sim card) i tried to make it micro sim card and cutted in a bad shape but it was working fine
now i have removed the sim card from phone, inserted another sim card in the phone, and the phone is no longer rebooting( i will update this)
i felt:
it might be the sim card reading error on sim tray cause mine was slightly cutted in bad shape plus the reading pannels were also bit trimmed
secondly i have seen there is a bug in ics causing random reboots
if people around faced this issue, they have possibly solutions to hard reset, clean memory by hard reset( power plus volume up), refreshing the firmware via sony pc suite, or finally sending it to repair centre but MINE IS not in warrnty
if any one else had this issue in past or facing this problem can add ,
please share your experience and any possible solution.
Do a factory reset and then update again with PCC, problem is you would loose root then. But there's no else solution available for the random reboots.
Happened with me too, So I decided to stick at Firmware 0.50 since 0.55 offers nothing new or special
reboots
Well
I haven't been rebooted since afternoon
I am sure it's SIM card issue I m facing but personally speaking I started hating Sony
Its waste of money
Look at each flagship leader Sony comes up
Then tons of issues
I will update if anything happened again
Thanks
