Anyone else tired of the region fragmentation? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Because the U.S./Canadian versions have to use different hardware than what is seen in the International variants of Samsung's Galaxy S line, we always get the watered down hardware and worse of all, worse developer support. Does anyone think or HOPE that this will finally end with the Galaxy S IV when Samsung hopefully starts including LTE radios in their Exynos processors which have only been seen in the International Galaxy S devices? Maybe that will mark the end of the major fragmentation between the LTE markets and the rest of Europe.

I'd hope so, time will tell. All in all though I'd take this model over the international. There dev support is awesome though, but ours isn't far behind.

Galaxy Nexus on AT&T

Whos going to get the galaxy nexus if it comes to AT&T. That lte might make a big difference between getting the att version and the international version.

But The One X doesn't have as much support as the Galaxy nexus does right now. That phone is still relatively new.
One X will never have the support like our Gnex because Gnex is a developer's phone and a damn good one at that

I have the international version on AT&T and it is amazing. I would prefer an unlocked, unbranded Nexus on AT&T over at LTE one any day.

Amen to that! I had a AT&T Galaxy Note the boat ware was horrible. Half the crap nobody would ever touch, I dont get it lol. Plus the AT&T branding in silver yuck!
Even though my area only has 4G and not LTE. I think HSPA plus is fine, LTE is overrated IMO.
I have a upgrade due in May, I am thinking about getting a HTC One X to complement my galaxy Nexus. Never tried Sense but would love to give it a test run
Ewwwww. Locked phones.
zippity doo da.

Bingo. Unlocked is worth it.
+1 to that
International version's on AT&T rock.
Seeing as how you can get a lightly used (or new) international GNEX for like $350 nowadays (off contract) it's hard to imagine why ANYONE would be waiting for an "official" AT&T version that's ****ted up with bloatware.
No thank you.

The OneX is just a generic non-Nexus Android phone, and it will suffer the same fate AS a generic non-Nexus Android phone.

Hold out man..... Just hold out.
killing is my business, and business is good.
i picture the GSM LTE version that will land on AT&T to be just like the VZW version.. sucky battery life and signal issues..
I would rather pick up a One X before picking up a LTE Galaxy Nexus on ATT if that was the choice..
The international version of the One X will have support because it is world wide, rather than tied down to one carrier or having to have a different roms etc. i dont see the lte version having it tho
But the Galaxy Nexus will always have 10x more support since its what Android stands for.. The One X is what HTC wants it to be and for others to work around that
Sorry AT&T users, but I'm sure as soon as you start your LTE Galaxy Nexus expect that throttle text! Its been 1 week on my LTE Nexus and I'm at 4gb!

I used 20-30GB on AT&T over and over and I never got a text. Oh yea
More on topic: I think they just need to get the 4th nexus on time. At this point I would buy a unlocked nexus over a "AT&T" nexus any day of the week.
I think what everyone is failing to realize that all GN variants are ether LTE or HSPA+ and not both. I think the ATT variant will be the first one which will do both just like all ATT LTE phones.
That might be worth getting because of that fact. Also, because its GSM it should get full support from Google unlike the cdma nexus phones.
I don't know about you but I might just wait to see what comes out.

The CDMA Nexus phones still have full support from Google in terms of updates and providing factory images. In the past week they've added factory images of 2.3.7 and 4.0.4 for the Nexus S 4G on Sprint, and once the VZW Gnex gets updated to 4.0.4, I guarantee those factory images will be available as well. In addition, Google has recently provided NS4G and VZW Gnex binaries for AOSP 4.0.3 and 4.0.4.
They only removed code support from AOSP because CDMA is a proprietary platform and the APK signatures for the CDMA functionality are ROM specific. So basically it was impossible to compile a pure AOSP build for a CDMA device that would have a working radio. This was a known problem even before they removed official code support. Those APK signatures have to be recreated with every ROM and the APKs themselves can't be open sourced. This really only affects you if you're trying to create a non-rooted OEM firmware. It's really a non-issue for those of us on XDA in the end.
Now to get back on topic, I agree with you that the AT&T GN would be awesome purely since it'd be a GSM/LTE variant. I'll be interested to see speed tests and how it compares to VZW LTE. I'll also be interested to see if it retains HSPA+ support in case you live in a non-LTE market. It'll also be interesting to see if it works with T-Mobile 3G/HSPA+ or if they remove the T-Mobile bands from the radio entirely and make it a true "AT&T Nexus".
I've got the GSM Nexus on ATT and it works great, except when I manually upgraded to 4.0.4, which had terrible connection and battery issues. I reverted to 4.0.2 and it's working great again. Speed, performance are excellent, no urgency to get an LTE phone just yet, considering the options will have so much bloatware. I can fully recommend the phone, just be cautious about upgrading to 4.0.4 at this point, and be prepared to go back to 4.0.2 if needed. Good luck!

This is really sad. Possibly the main reason to get an international GN (and go prepaid).

Which version of the note II will have the most support from XDA

I live in Canada, and we will be getting the quad exynos with LTE. I normally buy the international versions due to the support on XDA but this time around it seems the international version only has 3G at moment. Will international version come out with LTE as well? also with the different LTE bands its going to be tricky i think. The U.S. variant will get the same variant quad exynos + LTE. I assume it will have good support?
well international version only got gsm (3g) only
just get international version
Well, with codeworkx recently announcing he is no longer supporting exynos phones until Samsung provides the proprietary drivers(or something to that effect, its on RootzWiki) all support will suffer in the short term. However, I would gather that all versions will be popular enough for good support eventually. Also, Mr. Cyanogen himself uses TMOUS so I would hope we can get the ball rolling there.

Let's put it this way, which model you think will sell the most? The most popular model will get bigger user base, so is its developer base.
Unless all Note 2 share same firmware (or easy to mod), international HSPA version (n7100) most likely will get update first.
I'm thinking it will be just as it has been in the past. THe HSPA International phone will be very popular as they have always been.
Sigh. Singapore will only have the international LTE version. Gonna miss out on loads of customs roms and rooting. Sucks!

ATT VS TMO Note 2

Who came up with the rumor that ATT's phone does not support 42Mb band?
According to phonearena it does,
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-GALAXY-Note-II-AT-T_id7500
and Wikipedia also states the same bands for both, if not ATT's version looks better because of the LTE duo-band support
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Note_II
Am I reading this wrong?
is there any hardware difference at all? like if you unlock it, are they fully usable?
I think while at hardware level there maybe the same for both phones there are other things that potentially will lock it from using on different network even if it's unlocked. like ril and baseband. I am not a coder or engineer so I don't know all of the detail.
Thanks for the insight...

Why so little development on the N7105?

Hi all. I was hoping someone could explain why there is so little development on the N7105. Is there something about LTE that makes it harder to develop for?

I would rather say that the problem is that it is a "special model". The N7100 is the "standard model" that has broad availability and can be considered as the main product (compare with i9100, i9300, N7000 etc). Most users and developers buy the N7100 rather than the more restricted N7105 (that is a bit more of a carrier model, carriers without LTE etc offers the N7100).
I hope that it will change with the Note III but that means that the "N7200" (probable name) should have LTE - i.e. no more special editions - just ONE version for all. As long as LTE products are more of special versions with a heavy reliance on carriers, they will have less adaption than the more common HSPA model.

Sum up about it! And since N7100 was out before the 4G, people got it before N7105 thus the lack of support, I was considering changing to N7105 of it ever released with bigger storage, but seeing the support is serious lacking, I've decided not to do it.
You could customise N7100 custom roms to flash for N7105, there's a thread for that and people reported got it working and everything.
You can also check the ATT Note 2 thread as there are several roms based on N7105 (with no modem).

I wouldn't lose faith yet nattychris,
Those of us in Japan have only this week had our SC-02E version of the Galaxy Note 2 rooted.
I noticed that at least a couple of roms have been added or updated within the last 7 days for the N7105.
List (including N7105)

Just realized... Is the USA getting...

An unlocked non carrier branded galxy note 3 compatible with USA bands for lte? Since it is rumored that Samsung is not making the exynos octa lte connected this time around, then the s800 version unlocked will probably be Europe compatible leaving USA with only carrier branded locked down pieces of shiet. Say it ain't so. I'd rather have a note3 even though it hasn't been confirmed that it will be non Pentile. The development for galaxy s 4 GPe is slow, battery life can't compete with note2 and the Pentile screen is a bummer even though it is hard to tell.
