Xbox will not allow you to play files this way. You could use a USB stick and convert it via the xbox...
even then its complicated to get the films on there.
best way is to not use your xbox

Do you think I should us Hdmi or are there other ways of playing media through my tv ?
Can anyone recommend any apps or workarounds.
Thanks.

the problem with hooking the phone up to the TV is that it quickly catches fire, ive got both a cable and the HDMI wireless jobbie htc sell. my phones goes on fire within about 15 minutes.

How did the xvids get into your phone? If they came from your laptop or pc, why not just stream to the xbox from there?

I just watched a movie which was on my phone using the Xbox... Connect it to Xbox, press disk drive, go to movie app on Xbox and choose the portable USB option.

I did exactly the same except without the xbox, my tv has a usb port and I just browse it as if it's a flash drive. works great. played a FHD Movie from it and it even chargers so the battery doesn't run flat while reading.

Try using the XMBC app as a last resort

I use the "twonky mobile sever" app and it works through the router and shows up as a storage device on my Xbox

When I connect to Xbox it works now, weird.
Thanks for help though.

E4gt hooked to a smart tv,how to???

Does anyone know how to do this? The evo did it fine as there was a hdmi port. E4gt should do this. Should it not

You need an mhl adapter in order to connect the E4GT to the TV. You can find them easily online.

lol yes.. can stream but if you want to mirror phone screen onto tv needs to use the mhl adapter to use hdmi.. i have the adapter but sometimes will use twonky media server on phone or another media server app and use the ps3 to stream through instead of a computer but my tv isnt smart ;-) you should b able to stream straight to your smart tv.. but only your media files unless he uses the adapter

Only downside is you can't charge while using it.

Is the DG H200 HDMI Adapter connectable with other Devices?

Hi Folks,
I´m thinking about getting a DG H200 HD for my HOX. But it would be fine if this can be connected with my Android Tablet as well. Does anybody know this or has some experiences with the DG H200?
I've got the media link hd, the bubble upnp app picks it up as a renderer, so using my 8" tablet I can send all my videos on my media server or tablet to my tv.
In other words the medialink is usable with other phones, tablets etc.
Edit... When it's all on the same network.

Are you able to turn the screen off and still do it?? That's the only thing that bothers me about this adapter...having to keep on screen whilst I stream.

Yes screen can be off, I've noticed it uses very little battery drain, I thinks it's because everything is loaded onto the network, and nothing directly through ur phone / tablet.
I only use the hd media link as advertised when on YouTube, the rest of the time it's used as a renderer using bubble upnp, as it runs a lot smoother.

Okey, i will give it a try. if you can really use this adapter with other Androids it is usefull. What about the Quality?
As for quality I'm not sure, I will check the settings on the upnp app when I'm home tonight and try and play some mkvs etc. Iv watched standard avis and they look fine.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
It shows up as a DNLA device on pretty much every thing that's capable of transmitting via DNLA. Windows Media Center works as does Windows Media Player. My G-Tab 10.1 connects to it but there's some funkiness with video content being streamed I haven't had time to troubleshoot yet. You can also play music to it and it shows album, title, artist and cover art on the output device.
I had a play with it last nite, and found that not all avis work, most do but some don't, this was the same with mkvs.
Iv been told this is because of the limited amount of codec support the media link has. So be warned not every video will work.
These vids that didn't work on my tablet, I was still able to play using my one x and then connecting the to the media link as advertised, but this is because it is then playing through mxplayer and just being mirrored to my tv.

Vids/pics/music on XBOX

Surprised no one has talked about this at all. Anyway, happened to be watching Netflix on my XBOX last night, and while doing so, was checking out some pictures on my phone. Saw a button I never seen before that kind of looked like a little computer screen with 3 lines kind of going through it. I guess it said something like "view on another player". This apparently being the first time I was using my S3 and XBOX at the same time. So I press the button, and it stops my movie, and shows my picture on my TV!
Did some fooling around. As long as I'm using a stock music, video, or gallery app, and the file is on the phone itself, it will stream through my XBOX at the touch of a button. The free Avengers movie in Media Hub didn't work, Netflix didn't work. USB transferred an episode of Hell on Wheels over to the phone, it asked if I wanted to convert it to assure it would work on the phone and said yes, tried it out and it worked pretty good. I can only imagine how nice it would have looked if I hadn't converted it, going to try later and see.
Was just curious if anyone else has used this feature at all? Seems pretty cool to me.
I think that's DLNA.

The TV has nothing to do with it, it's going through my XBOX. It was just crazy to me because I've never been able to link my XBOX and computer properly, and I can see my computer in the gallery app sometimes but I can never see any files. I did happen to start a test on my battery while having basically everything running and all options available, so I have activated some options I normally don't use. I think one night I tried messing with the settings on my XBOX to get it to show my phone since it comes up on my roomie's PS3 although I've never tried using this feature on that before. Since I don't use my XBOX a whole lot lately, and I imagine it's possible others don't use it at the same time, I thought I'd mention it.
aNYthing, is that exactly what DLNA is? because, if so, there's a lot of people going and buying that allshare hub thing that wouldn't need to if they have an XBOX or PS3. Obviously Samsung is not going to promote that! I don't have the DLNA share option being used so it never occurred to me that it could be using it. I guess I assumed DLNA was something that was used to go directly to the TV, which in my case, is not what's happening, and definitely not possible.

on the phone. XBOX was already playing a Netflix movie. Pressed it and it stopped the movie I was watching, and a few seconds later, it appeared on my TV. Swiped to another pic, and IT popped up. Watched a short video I took the other day, it looked GREAT! As I said, I'm not really sure what I changed or if I established a link between my S3 and XBOX before or not but hey, it was pretty damn cool to me, lol.

Doesnt the end device have to be codec compatible ?
I had issues with video stuttering or simply not playing on my Viera.
Have not tried my xbox but I will.
No it just streams it. If it stutters it might be ur connection or ur tv.

works great on my xbox. i'm sure the file has to be compatible but you probably won't get the other viewer option if it's not anyway.
My main purpose of this post was to find other people using the same feature and if they have any tips such as, what files will work for this or what apps can use it, etc.
had no idea i could do this until i saw this thread. thank you!
You have to be connected to the same Wi-Fi and it will work.
Or you can yes double twist and it does the same thing.

I made a tut on how to do this on the PS3 but it didn't seem too many people were interested in it. Simple though get a video converter and convert the movies to mp4 standard and don't let the phone convert it on transfer leave it the way it is and it will work no matter what, the phone sends everything by means of media player so any device that allows media server wifi conection will play from this device.

Did the mhl work for you? I ran a quick attempt and it wasn't seeing anything. MAYBE I needed to use a different cable and wall plug, I was using one that, it seems now, isn't supplying a lot of power.
Just wanting a confirmation that the mhl works.

mhl converter
Mhl works great. You just need to make sure if you are searching amazon or eBay or whatever you use to make sure it's the one for the s3 or note 2. The cable for the s2 is different for some reason. Allshare hub is ok but gets laggy on anything other than pics and videos you have on the phone already. Trying to stream Netflix from the phone through the hub doesn't work very well at all.
I use my xbox360 to stream stuff from my phone to my tv works flawlessly for music video and images. If you have any other device that supports DLNA that would work as well

I actually use that feature... pretty much go into your tv youtube app and under the sign in part theres something where you share your screen, pretty much go into that and take your tvs code and type it into your phones youtube app and a little button will appear for you when looking at videos on your phone similar to the one in gallery to share pics/vids...
Great for old movies or tv shows on youtube
Just use the mhl adapter. get one from ebay. cost like $10. This is the one I got and it works flawlessly:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251194581683
Just plug it into the phone then plug in the ac adapter (it needs power) and connect the HDMI cable from adapter to tv and BOOM, a mini power computer. I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard paired to the phone and it works great. The only thing it would make it perfect is if I can stream the optimum tv app. unfortunately the optimum tv app can detect if you are using an "external" display and it won't show the video on the tv. But you can stream watchespn, hbo go, max go and pretty much any other apps onto the big screen.
I tried to ask if anyone can hack the optimum app to allow it to be used with external display but no one replied.
No one has heard of the app mirrorop. Haven't tried on note yet. But on Asus Transformer Pad TF300T it mirrors your screen exactly but to a PC. (Which I had connected to my TV via HDMI) only downside is doesn't stream audio. Use some Bluetooth speakers. Works well
using mhl update
tv must be mhl compatable or the cable convert to hdmi n not just wires but some actual brain
second. get the 11 pin not the 5 pin mhl adapter or it wont work on note ii. [sgs2 mhl adapter wont work]

Hi, I bought a cable off of ebay (red) for $11.00 packaged for the SIII but works fine on my N2, and with my stock 2.0amp charger it stays charged, though is barely charges because of the power drain. But output of both the video and audio come through fine on my vizio tv.
Hope this helps.

For any of you guys who own a Roku media box. You can use the app from the Playstore: Juice for Roku. You just add the Juice channel to your Roku device, install the Android app...connect it to your Roku, then you can stream your Pics (individually or slideshow), and video's all wirelessly to your TV through your Roku.
