So I'm on an att unlimited data plan and on a corporate account so I don't want to change carriers. Also I really don't want to pay $500.00 for a phone. I'm hoping after verizon's 90 days of being exclusive with the nexus other carries will being selling it, but I can't find any info about it. Has anyone heard anything.
i only heard of Sprint officially getting the Galaxy Nexus. no att or tmobile

I was in your same boat. Got tired of waiting to hear if att was going to carry the gnexus so I splurged and bought one luckily my s2 and cappy provided me enough funds to cover the cost.

Most likely it will be the same case with the Nexus One.. other carriers suppose to pick it up.. but in the end only two will and the rest will pick up something they think is better.

Well... T-Mobile and AT&T never officially sold the N1 in their stores.
OP, Don't count on it.... just buy it unlocked. you're gonna be waiting so long to have the possibility of it being sold here that it'll be old news by the time it does. There hasn't even been a plausible rumor of it coming to T-Mobile or AT&T in the US since it was launched. Its been months.
I agree with these posts. AT&T never themselves sold the Nexus One or the Nexus S, so it seems highly unlikely that they will a subsidized Galaxy Nexus.
Unlikely that we will see AT&T officially carrying the Galaxy Nexus, you're better off getting a Galaxy S2, selling it and then adding a bit of cash on top to get an unlock GNex. It really is a great phone.
You cant get a carrier any less "Android friendly" than Att.

So many people have AT&T but I never hear anything good about them. I only hear bad things about their call quality, dropped calls and crappy unstable data. So why do people actually stay with them? Just because it is GSM. If you live in the US and don't travel out of country often, what would any other advantage be to stick with a crappy provider?

Agreed, but like the sliment mentioned. He's on an unlimited plan which no longer exists on many carriers. I suspect a lot of folks are "stuck" with att because they don't want to lose their unlimited plan. I'm sure if Verizon still had an unlimited plan that many unlimited att users would jump ship.

You only hear bad things cause people only complain when they have problems. When things are good then people just go on with life like nothing is wrong.
Ive had att for 7 years and have great service in cali, new jersey, pennsylvania.

Precisely this. The ones w/ bad experiences will be those who spout off on XDA.
AT&T doesn't universally suck across the country, its extremely region dependent. People just have problem with some of their practices and plans, which makes people say they hate AT&T.
What I did is, I bought the samsung galaxy note from amazon for only $250 instead of $300 from ATT without tax. I resold the phone and bought the galaxy nexus from negri.
GL man, i'm growing to like my galaxy nexus more and more, making me not regret keeping the note even though it has LTE and 8 mp pixel. :>

The technical terms for this only-hear-complaints thing is called "silence on success". Yeah, ATT works fine in most areas.

I agree completely. I have had AT&T for almost 2 years now and my experience with them has been a 100% better than T-Mobile and Verizon.
With that said my gnexus comes today!!!!

Like any carrier, AT&T is great in some areas of the country and bad in others. In my hometown in Western Massachusetts, AT&T is a god compared to Verizon. However, down in NJ where I am currently living, it is the opposite.
As for AT&T getting the Galaxy Nexus I doubt it. By the time they get things figured out, a new phone with ICS, that has better specs would have come out. Plus, AT&T has the Galaxy Note, which I know they have been pushing pretty heavily in new england due to the number of commercials I have seen about it.
The concept of Nexus (untainted, easily-hacked Android devices) is a foreign one to AT&T. If your heart is set on a Nexus, you'll have to buy it outright. Otherwise, as others have mentioned, the Note looks like a hell of a device.

Yes, if you have a smartphone it will eventually get flagged and you will have to add a data plan, this is not limited to the GN.

Its the same exact device that's been on sale in Europe for 5 months now. Its not different. Still an i9250.
As the previous poster said, its not limited to the GNex, they'll kick you off of a non-smartphone plan sooner or later. Its not hard to figure out. Just switch to an AT&T MVNO and save yourself the trouble.

what is a MVNO? it seems to be that the only phones that At&t will add a mandatory data plans to are the ones in their system & of course iPhones. there were plenty of people in the SGS2 thread that were using the international SGS2 on At&t without data plans. same with the international Galaxy note but thanks for the input xD
MVNO is like someone who resells AT&T service.
For example.... Boost Mobile and Virgin resell Sprint's service.

Yes. I got my gf a Samsung Vibrant to put in her ATT family plan. She had previously been using a feature phone that had Web access but no smartphone data plan. It was flagged the second month in.
She switched to Simple Mobile. A MVNO of T-Mobile. $40/month unlimited voice text 3g data.

Of course they will, it's a smart phone. If you want more control over your service, go with pre-paid from any number of vendors.
Also, JBQ verified it's the same pentaband hardware, just a marketing typo.

My sister's vibrant hasn't been flagged for almost a year. This is because the Vibrant's IMEI range is not available to at&t.
The OP is asking whether we think AT&T will be given that imei range now that the GNEX is officially for sale, unlocked in the US, like the nexus one was. IE. Can I get away with dumb phone true unlimited data? This is never monitored or metered, (trust me my sister constantly tethers to 40 gigs of usage per month).

Have been using my Galaxy Nexus on the AT&T $50 unlimited everything, including internet for dumbphones, GoPhone plan for quite a while now and my data still works. Still averaging 5mpbs or more. The good thing about it is that it's not metered. Last month, I used over 6gb of internet and have never been throttled or shut off.
I am concerned that Google will provide AT&T the IMEI numbers of all the Galaxy Nexus that they sell in the play store. If that's the case, then my days of $50 truly unlimited are over. I find that I don't use many minutes, so I might just go back to the $30 T-Mobile plan.

Yeah, there are two ways to go about it. $15 internet for quick messaging phones on postpaid or $50 unlimited everything on prepaid.

Yes this was exactly what I'm asking about. :/ I have a feeling that Google might give the carriers the IMEI numbers of the gnex as to not piss them off. I doubt the carriers are happy with Google selling an unlocked phone that is interoperable with the GSM carriers in the US.(similar thing happened two years ago with the nexus one but that was two years ago n Google might be bolder about their reentry into the unlocked phones business)

My friend does it on his international galaxy nexus (uses a gophone sim with a 50/month prepaid), I'm thinking about doing it myself.

Google will sell the Nexus from now on for a no contract price cheaper than the stores. Verizon will probably never see another Nexus. If we like a phone that is ether not coming to the states or coming 6 months later we can still buy one.

You'll lose your unlimited Verizon plan when you "upgrade" your phone anyways... unless you buy full price.
So yeah personally I'm GSM all the way and I buy my phones full price anyways, and I use no contract T-Mobile. So up to you if you want.

Unless the coverage is poor in your area I would recommend T-Mobile over AT&T. AT&T is a rather awful carrier in more ways than I'd like to go into right now. Either way, while Verizon has incredible coverage I never recommend using a CDMA network of any kind, much less Verizon, but that is my own personal opinion.

Is this something that was just recently instated? I didn't buy my GN right away but when I upgraded I kept my Unlimited Data even though at the time they were selling 2gb/4gb/6gb packages.

Yes this is a recent change, it went into effect when shared data plans started (1-2 weeks ago)

Yep, starting June 28 the unlimited data plan is no longer available on Verizon for new contracts or upgrades

Few days ago, actually. We have just known it was coming for that long
GSM all the way. I much prefer the flexibility of SIM cards to..well..hard programming into the phone. There's something nice about being able to totally skip your carrier when you want to change phones.
For example, I got sick of my old HTC Legend. Even though I was only a year into my contract, I got a second hand Xperia Play, swap the sim, boom boom done. A year later I'm due for an upgrade and I'm not even sick of my phone. No matter, hello Nexus!

Yeah it's new. Came with the new shared everything plans. And apparently they're also going to start tacking on a 40 dollar per month service fee for smartphones as well. Really lame.
In my opinion, I'm really happy with ATT. Yeah they're more expensive than TMobile, but their coverage is damn good and my hspa+ speeds are actually faster than VZW's lte where I live. It really depends on your area. But I definitely suggest either ATT or TMobile purely for the gsm phones. Means you can use international versions as well.

Not disagreeing that shared plans suck, but the shared plan and fee go together. It isn't enforced on other plans.

Verizon found a way around it. Sprint on the other hand...they are still provisioned per phone.

When did it change? I remember when my American BF changed his phone a year or two ago (verizon) and he had to get them to reprogram the contacts because of lack of SIM. Sorry for the lack of knowledge here, I live in Canada.

With the addiiton of LTE devices, they brought in the SIMs as well.
Their EvDo devices are simless, but as far as I know, there will be no more new 3G devices brought out. At least this year.

Yeah I forgot about that. I haven't looked at the new pricing at all, just read articles about it. Do you by chance know if the shared plans are cheaper overall for say a family of 4 with smartphones on the shared plan vs an old plan where they all have like 30 per month individual data plans? Seems to me like it wouldn't be much of a stretch for a carrier to pull some BS like that nowadays. Haha.

I don't see Verizon getting the nexus again...
Hey everybody my Verizon contract is up this year and I was wondering what other people's experience is with other carriers. I love having a nexus but I doubt VZW ever gets another one. Also, I'm grandfathered into unlimited data so I'd never be able to upgrade without paying full price.
To sum it up, what are people's experience with GSM carriers that have unlimited data? Do you think Verizon ever gets another Nexus?

regardless i wouldnt want a vzw nexus device as it isnt a true nexus device in terms of ota. if you dont get otas then vzw nexus is alright. (vzw still has to approve of the update before it gets OTA'd to VZW Nexus devices)

If there isn't another Nexus on Verizon it'll be because that's the way Verizon wants it, not the other way around.

Unless you are a decision maker at Verizon or Google, it really makes no sense to speculate about future smartphone offerings. Do tech sites paint a negative picture for the future? Always, but that shouldn't matter if you are happy with everything in the present. There is no definitive details on the nexus line so wait and see is your best option.
Remember, when the galaxy nexus came out, it was announced that it would be exclusive to Verizon, and that turned out to be wrong in the end.
I left Verizon after being with them for about 10 years, for the Google Play GSM Nexus. I am using it on Straight Talk Sim (Att). I get updates, have no contract, have a lot of data, unlimited calls and text...and I am only paying $45 per month. Couldn't be happier. Verizon sux big time, I am so glad I don't have to deal with their BS anymore.

Pretty sure that this exclusivity was within the U.S. only as internationally phones were distributed.
I guess the contract ended and expanded to Sprint and ultimately their Play Store devices section.
I agree with you that exclusivity was stupid on both Google and Verizon's part. Never a fan on why two companies would even bother doing phone exclusivities.

I am pretty sure it will. Works on either Att or Tmobile networks. Straight Talk is one of the bigger no contract carriers. Here is a link to Straight Talk Sim

Yup works on both AT&T and T-Mobile. HSPA+ (4G) compatible.
Line it up with a 2000 mAh extended battery (~$35) from shimshop on eBay. Comes with a extended battery cover that makes the phone feel much much much better in the hand.
Version will most likely be then first CDMA carrier to receive the nexus. Especially with the Optimus G launching on Sprint. I doubt ATT or T-Mobile will offer it subsidized on contract. That's leave Verizon or Unlocked versions

I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile to get the Sensation and then finally the Galaxy Nexus. I'm happy and I have no regrets leaving Verizon.
Main points are: having an unlocked phone with no contract gives me peace of mind. I hear people talk about their "contracts" all the time.. not having to worry about this is great. Verizon has good service, but T-Mobile's is no slouch for me. My service has been great.. and better in some areas where Verizon didn't work. And it's cheaper. Finally, my phone is cutting edge tech.. even after being a year old. I have the latest software and every feature I could ask for. It's also nice being able to go to another country, pop in a SIM and go on your way (if needed).
When I heard Verizon got the Nexus first after I left, initially I was upset.. but then I found out Verizon was still Verizon and they screwed the whole Nexus experience up the only way they know how. I'll never go back to that mess.
I switched to ATT and back to VZW, the service here in my area is just way better on verizon. On top of the service being better, 4G here is widespread and very fast, not even available with ATT.
I too left Verizon for Straight Talk. LTE is fast and sweet, but hspa+ is good enough for me. If I have to download something large I do it at home on wifi. I had the t-mobile $30 prepaid plan and their hspa+ speeds are amazing, but their coverage is very spotty where I live. I love not having a contract and also am paying less than half of what I paid Verizon.

I was fully anticipating going with the nexus 4 (I was prepared to never buy a non nexus device as long as Google keeps making them). Now that the nexus 4 will not be on Verizon and switching to at&t isn't an option since I get 25% off my bill through work, what would you guys do if you were in my situation? The Gnex is going to be cheap as hell when am eligible for an upgrade and am still considering it, should I be? Do you think Gnex development will slow down dramatically any time soon? I'd also hate to buy a phone with outdated hardware...do you guys run into hardware limitations withe the Gnex?
The only other phone that intrigues me is the galaxy s3. Mainly because it is so popular that I see there being a huge development opportunity there? I looked through the thread for the GS3 and it looks like there plenty of aosp roms and it looks to me like there will be quick updates for it as well. The biggest things I hate about the GS3 are the hardware buttons, I love the customisable soft keys in aosp and think that hard keys are so pointless anymore.
I'm pretty much against moto but if you really think I should look at something they have to offer, let me know.
Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated, thanks in advance.

My advice? Wait and watch. See how the N4 actually pans out as a device itself. It could be a hardware flop for all we know at this point. There were certainly fun hardware issues with the Gnex.
Then wait a bit longer for the HTC DNA. It might turn out to be a barnburner, or something to burn the barn with.
Then make a decision.
I'm not sure if the Moto RAZR i or HD is a good option or not for you.
Its up on you dude. go out & explore something new and one more thing that the GS3 is a pretty good option.

I would wait if I where u. If u really need a new phone I would say the galaxy as 3 is a good choice. I have the gnex with Verizon and I love it. I dont have no issues at all my signal is always good i dont drop any calls or never go into 3g lol. (Must be my area i live in) Only problem I see u having is the storage capacity. The gnex on Verizon is now offered with only 16GB. No more 32GB. But as stated before, wait it out a few more months and see what's around the corner. If anything get a used nexus from craigslist for like 250 bucks to hold u over. That way up don't waist your upgrade on a phone u might regret

25% off of Verizon's prices is still more expensive then Straight Talk or T-Mobile prepaid.... why not get a Nexus 4 anyway and stop signing contracts?

The answer for most people? Coverage.
Coverage, Coverage, Coverage.
If you have a Thunderbolt, that means you still have unlimited data right? So if you're planning on buying a Nexus anyway, you might as well just find an unlocked one (i've seen used ones for ~$150-250) so that you won't have to upgrade. If I remember correctly (and I might be wrong), but Verizon only takes away the unlimited data when you try to upgrade.
No offense, but then he'd be stuck with T-Mobile's network and current lack of LTE. I root for T-Mobile; however, I was miserable when I was using them in suburban Denver, due to relatively inconsistent/slow data.

You can use AT&T's towers via Straight Talk if T-Mobile isn't great for your area. AT&T's HSPA+ network is pretty expansive.
Also, he wouldn't be "stuck" with anything - he could take the SIM card out and flush it down the toilet if the service bothers him. That's the beauty of not having a contract
I had the gnex on Verizon and loved it, except for one crucial issue-battery life. Sure, this was remedied somewhat by getting spare batteries, but this got to be a pain in the ass.
I currently have the Verizon SIII and love it (I find the dev community to be more than adequate). Yet I agree that it is worth waiting for the inevitable next greatest thing. The DNA does look to be badass

Yeah the main reason why I stay with Verizon is coverage and my discount. At&t is the only other viable option, all the others are spotty at best around where I live.
Yeah I never thought of trying to get a gnex off contract. That would probly be the best option seeing that I'm getting married in June and will most likely have to revamp my plan for me and the wife anyway.
My friend just got the s3, he doesn't root or anything like I do but I can still bug him about the battery life at least.

I've only ever dealt with Verizon so can you include a few more details? Isn't straight talk sprint, but you're saying at&t sim?

The only way I'll be buying a Nexus 4 is if it's gifted to me.
I honestly want to wait it out for MWC and HTC's 2013 lineup.

I'm not real big on the next best thing, the S3 would be in that category for me. Do you stick with touchwiz ROMs or aosp (or aokp)?
I have a sour taste in my mouth for HTC and I'm sick of waiting. I thought I waited for the next best thing with the Tbolt when I was coming from the OG droid. Samsung at least gets it right with their flagship devices. They don't come out with almost an identical phone but with more bugs worked out 3 months later.
I'll wait till Christmas and see what all comes but that's as long as I'll wait.

Straight talk offers an AT&T SIM that gives you unlimited* everything for $45/mo. I think it's actually their most popular plan.
*2-5gb of data before they start to nag, depending on how the stars align for you. Since, you know, unlimited is never actually unlimited in the US anymore...
If you are only with verizon because of the discount, try calling up another phone company and see if they can match the offer or sweeten the pot for you. My brother gets a corporate discount with Bell (here in Canada) and so he called up Rogers (who he's with), and told them that he can get such and such plan for such and such price and asked if he can match it otherwise he'd switch. I forget the specifics of what he got but he was able to get a discount because of it.
Otherwise, just wait like many others said. Perhaps you can get a sweeter phone than the nexus.

To OP: I'm in a similar situation actually, except that I use a GNex right now instead of a TurdBolt. Nobody knows if a Nexus 4 will come to VZN, but I'd probably just buy a GNex until something better rolls around later. And if you do have unlimited data, DO NOT UPGRADE! I cannot fathom losing my unlimited data at this point of my spoiled-data-consumption life. And the development for the VZN GNex is pretty healthy actually. Nothing to complain about, especially when you know you have a reliable connection at the end of the day.
I'm in agreement there, I dumped my tbolt for a gnex and it was a huge step up. You can grab one for fairly cheap off contract now too. I have little to complain about besides battery being a moderate problem. It still beats the tbolt for battery life by quite a bit though, and has given me better data reception. My main urge to upgrade is called 'upgraditis'. For now I'll be trying to treat the symptoms.
