I have been going through the same thing in the Washington DC area. I am notified that I have 3g coverage but when I try to use it, there is absolutely no connectivity. After spending MANY hours on the line with the customer service people at Sprint (trying to update profile, trying to update PRL, them resetting everything on their end, etc.....) I was told that the area I was in was going through the Vision upgrade. While this made me happy, what they told me was that it could be up to a month before normal service was properly restored. They are taking down the older motorola towers and putting up new samsung towers.
I would recommend that you get in touch with them so they can note it on your account that you are having connectivity issues. I was told (and I have it in writing) that they will go back and adjust the account in arrears to reflect the amount of time you had issues with their service.

I've been having problems with coverage in the Louisville KY area as well. I called Sprint and reported it. I wish it was LTE lol.

Well hopefully when they finally flip the almighty switch it will be worth the headache and pain of dealing with LoS......until then, I just get in touch with them every day to make sure they will adjust my account properly and eagerly await the arrival of LTE speeds!!!!

I think they r working on lte in Miami finally. Lately my phone goes in and out of roaming in known sprint areas....
Here's hoping.

I log into my Sprint account and use the Chat feature to just mention that I wanted to have my account updated that as of today I am still experiencing LoS issues and ask that they make a note on my account so that when they have finished the work in my area and restored my service, I will get properly compensated for the lost time of service. I do this via the online chat because I can not only save my chats as PDF but they also will e-mail me a copy of the chats. I have everything that is discussed in writing so if they try to say well sir we weren't notified of this issue I can tell them that they most certainly were and they had better made the appropriate adjustments!!

Data is simply unusable for this phone.

first i live in kansas city (sprint headquarter's backyard). the constant switching, roaming, searching or whatever it does just makes this phone hard to use. the phone itself for calling is fine but data is becoming a deal killer here. is this indicative of sprint's network or just that this phone needs an update of sorts. my verizon 3g speeds while never stellar always stays connected and i can at least browse the web or do rhapsody both of which it seems almost impossible on this phone since i've gotten it. i, like many others here want to love this phone but this data thing is a problem.
I'm lucky I live in a good area... AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint are all pretty much on-par with one another. And I haven't experienced it yet (just a few days in here), but the back-up to Verizon is a good thing in a pinch. T-Mobile is even decent here.
Every carrier has parts of the country where it's good, and where it's bad.
That's not an issue with "data is simply unusable for this phone".
I'd be willing to bet dollars to donuts that your data experience would be WORSE with any other Sprint phone in fact. This phone is fast enough to swallow data and turn it around and present it to the user in whatever browser/app quickly enough to create an impression of even faster "data", in my initially-switched-to-Sprint first impression.
Sounds to ME that you have more of a problem with Sprint, in your area. Not the phone.
sadly that may be the case in which no amount of tweaking is going to help. i checked the coverage map and i live in a good to best wimax area. sigh, oh well. i'll give it another week.

Call sprint and have them refresh your settings. If that doesn't work maybe you got a bad unit
That's why you stick with network with the better coverage in your area, not just buy the phone and expect similar results. Sometimes you just can't have both.

Before i did anything with the phone after purchasing the phone from Sprint, I did a Profile, then PRL, then Firmware.
I didn't have any data isssues, nor do i have any what so ever, and im inside a building ( casino ) In fact, and this people block everything!
Even called Sprint and was adviced to do Profile first before PRL ect.. any reason why?
This does not seem like it is the network issue it is an issue with the phone. I live in a full coverage area and I am having issues right next to my other line which has the evo

It's most definitely the phone. My EVO performs well, and just for sh*ts and giggles, I scrounged up my old Sanyo flip phone (model PM-8200...before Sprint was with Nextel)....no issues. Even the crappy Sanyo mobile browser works well for its level.
This has been discussed in several other threads - people are having issues with dropped data and slow data. You should probably let Samsung know as they are unaware of any issues (as not enough people have contacted them). My EVO 3D got much better data - same network, same location.
You can call, email or Twitter -
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SPH-D710ZKASPR
The more people that let them know, the sooner they patch this thing and get it fixed. Posting here isn't going to get Samsung's attention as much as direct emails, calls or twitters.
I've already contacted them - they are unaware of data issues with this phone because not enough people are letting them know. If people are willing to post here it would be great if they were willing to drop an email to Samsung.

I used the drop down and selected the SPHd700- and then clarified in my email which model I have.
The modding community will come up with a fix before Samsung even admits to it. They built in sleep to conserve battery, but the data chip keeps using the snooze button instead of getting out of bed.

Speedtest screenshots, and Sprint

If I was to send Sprint speed test screenshots with my phone rooted (TNz Blend ROM) would they say anything?
Imho I don't think it would accomplish anything. I'm guessing your hopes are that sprint will have a visual of what they already know..their data speeds blow. Don't get me wrong, the squeaky wheel gets the oil, but I think sprint would just dismiss it. Especially coming from a "modded" device.

Well I couldn't agree more. However, a theme park has moved into my area and during the day I nor can anyone else I know that has sprint send or receive calls or text at least 75% of the time. Also less than dial up speeds during the day. Like .02Mbps to .08Mbps. I the really early morning hours I'be gotten up to 2Mbps, on average 1.30Mbps. I mean my network location works everywhere but where I live... (the crap tower)

I've heard of people successfully receiving one of those broadband powered Sprint mobile extenders...like a mini cell tower powered by your broadband connection (AIRAVE). Just call them, complain that you're having problems with cellular reception in your home and state whether or not the company is planning on implementing any fixes for this situation. They'll probably make you run some diagnostics on your phone but state that a friend of yours was given one of those and see what they say? YMMV
Call this: 866 556 7310
Tell them you have problems with reception in and around your house, and is tired of having to walk mad far to get reception. Ask them if they could supply you with their AIRAVE.
Yea man. An Airave. I actually have 2 of them lol. My house is fine but 30 feet outside of my house or anywhere near that tower I'm toast

Ok yeah, that's ridiculous. They need to reevaluate that area and upgrade the tower that's being pulled from. There is a section on sprints web page that, once you've put in your zip, will show you tower placement and whether that tower has been or is scheduled to be upgraded. Let sprint know you've noticed this, they want to retain you as a customer, if anything they'll credit you're acct for the inconvenience. I have to admit, they DO have great customer service when faced with a legitimate complaint.

Ohhh trust me I've had ohh about 10 tickets open myself. Not to mention others who have called. I've gotten my share of credits also. At one point they apparently had 10 tickets open at once. I've talked to many supervisors and a couple engineers about it. This has been happening since October. They said its been "fixed" 4 times now. I LOL at that

Yeah, about AIRAVE, it may boost your singal, but in my case it duplicated my texts or caused some not to go out. I turn AIRAVE off and everything is fine. As soon as it's back on, boom 2,3 copies of the same text come randomly.

Using a Verizon PRL to get service cancelled for excessive data roaming?

OK I have to ask.
I have HORRIBLE 3G speeds where I live. I'm lucky to see 20~30kbps on a speed test, inside or out. I try it all over the city, it's the same everywhere. I've tried different modems, Roms, kernels, nothing helps.
Other Sprint users tell me the same thing.
We have 4G here but I'm about a mile too far away from the towers to use it on a daily basis and it seems like everything I do is in the opposite direction as the 4G so I maybe get to use 4G like once or twice a month. 4G rocks, I get 20~25mbit, again 3G sucks. Most of the time it simply does not even work. I get errors about no network connection etc.
So anyway my buddy just got an AT&T Skyrocket (same phone basically) as our Epic Touch and he showed me a speed test on 3G as it was almost 3mbit.
He said he got out of his Sprint by using this thread, flashing the 00001 PRL file, installing ROAM Control and slamming torrents. He said after about 15 days of letting it run non stock, Sprint contacted him saying he had 30 days to find a new carrier, they were canceling his contract.
He claims he was just out, he had to pay his final bill, NO ETF, and his ESN is clean so he was going to sell his Galaxy on eBay.
Is this true or is he BS'ing me?
I'm REALLY sick of Sprint. What is the point of unlimited date if it NEVER [email protected]#[email protected]#
On a side note, I get eh, 700~800kbps when I ROAM to Verizon.

Yes you can do that. The will normally let you out ETF free but they are not obligated to.
On a side note, people who do this are driving up prices for the rest of us.
Well, let me start off by respectfully saying that I'm not sure I care about the prices being driven up and let me explain why.
I'm not just some new Sprint customer who showed up and now something else it out I want on another network. I've been a Sprint customer for over 10 years, actually it will be 11 years in June and frankly Sprints service as gone to hell. My biggest complaint is the data.
My Samsung Instinct and my Palm Pre actually worked GREAT! About the time I got my EVO, things started to go down hill.
I complained about my EVO and it's crappy battery life and speed and they actually upgraded me to the Epic Touch when it first came out and it's not any better from a speed stand point. Sprint advertises this "Unlimited" network but I barely get 15~30 Kbps anywhere in a 50 mile area and it's not just me. First off, I work in the technologies department for my local school district. Our work issued phones are Sprint iPhones. We also have some Android stuff and ALL of them suck. Pretty much everyone but myself also has a AT&T iPhone too and the speed difference is unbelievable. What I mean by that is that a few of my co-workers actually have TWO iPhones, Sprint (work phones) and AT&T (personal phones) and EVERY one of them says the same thing, there is no comparison between the two for 3G data, AT&T blows Sprint out of the water.
One of the guys just gt the Skyrocket and I can't get over how much faster the 3G is then Sprint. The LTE is amazing too.
I look this stuff and I wonder what the hell happened to Sprint?
I can see why they are able to keep the unlimited data, its so freaking slow no ones using much! Just annoys me. I feel like its time to move on and like I said, I've been a loyal customer for over 10 years, I almost hate to start over.
If the problem is your whole city/town and not just your house, why not look up the thread about getting a free airrave, and instead of asking for an airrave, ask to be released from your contract, as your phone is just going to roam all the time costing them money anyways. The number in that thread (in e4gt general I think) is account services or whatever their euphemism is for retentions. They may just let you out if you've been such a good customer... you can always come back if the Network Vision pans out in your area... its worth a shot... if that fails, you have no choice but to roam like hell.
I live in a pretty big city and we do have 4G here but unfortunately, that is only downtown which really does me no good.
The 3G is almost non-working as I said. Now I work about 30 miles from where I live which is another decent city, not a big one but a well known one and the 3G issues are the same there too.
As I said, pretty much everyone who works in our technology department has the same opinion of Sprint's 3G, it simply doesn't work as it should. They all prefer their AT&T phones so it's not just me having issues.
I'll have to call them tonight. I get GREAT signal. Almost full bars but the data just won't perform. We were out a couple weeks ago for example, I wanted to look up a phone number and some movie times, we had to fine a Panra Breads and use there Wi-Fi to get anything to load. Dolphin and my stock browser just basically did nothing. I was watching the pages load like I was on 14.4 dial up.
As I said, the phone aspect is fine, should I tell them I'm force roaming to make a point? I really want to tell them how much of an issue this data crap is and WHY I'm forcing my phone to roam and that I intend to keep it on Verizon unless they let me go or fix it, which I know they can't fix it but I don't want that to cause more issues with them.
Thoughts?
Can anyone who works for Sprint weigh in here? This is ridiculous. Again, it's not just me or my phone, it's everyone in my area who I know uses Sprint and we are just some random phone morons who wandered into Best Buy and bought a cool looking phone. We are all technology professionals who use and test mobile devices etc, CCNP's, Apple techs, database engineers etc.
I know my way around a phone, so do the people I work with. We can't all be wrong here.
My friend did this and was not charged the etf. His brother decided to try it as well and was not able to get them to waive the etf. So in my opinion you have a 50/50 chance of having to pay the etf.

Yes in the newer contracts there is a clause that excessive roaming is in breach of the contract. IIRC, don't quote me on that though, you should check it over yourself to be safe first.
Hmm, interesting. I signed up on December 2011, I don't know if that counts as new. I will check out my contract and report back, might help others
Thanks! :good:

VZW SMS service unreliable.

So a few weeks ago I have to call VZW because others were not receiving the majority of the SMS and mms messages I sent. A day later they called and said it had been fixed and it shown happen again. Well now its about two weeks later and its happening again. I really don't feel like being on the phone for hours again repeating the same thing over and over. Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do? I really am tempted to just switch carriers even if I lose unlimited data. I feel like the ETF should be waived since I'm not receiving the service I should be.

I have the opposite experience...
I have a Femtocell here at the house and when ever I send a text while I'm at home it actually gets sent two or three times. Annoying. I'm just grateful I haven't texted anyone by mistake with NSFW comments.
maybe try using google voice for a while? it uses data to send texts and since you have unlimited data you should give it a go until verizon fixes things and make sure to call them to get credit for that too
Did you try getting a new SIM? Does it only occur in a single area? Have you tried different phones/ROMS/kernels/radios?

It occurs everywhere I go haven't been able to pinpoint a single area. I was 50 miles from home last time it happened and they "fixed" it but it still happens here and at home. Haven't tried a new SIM cause I figured that would be the next step. I don't have another LTE phone to try and if I go back to my Fascinate my unlimited data plan will be removed from my account. It initially happened on Liquid 1.3 but before I called them I went back to complete stock 4.0.2 and radios and it was happening multiple times as I was talking to her on the phone.
Good luck getting out of your ETF after one tech support call.

I love VZW, I guess it all depends on where you live. I had a similar horrible experience with At&t (who I hate): long story short, I received multiples of every text for months. Not just a few, but 20-100 of every text, and I couldn't send/receive any others while it was happening. I spent 20+ hours on the phone with them and went through 3 sim cards before I left their lame asses for VZW and never looked back. They did wave my ETF, but it was very well documented over a looooong period of time I was having the issues and everything I/we tried to make it work. I swear thats the short story lol. I seriously doubt they would have waved it had I just defaulted the contract after the first call. But I agree with you, its worth paying the ETF to get the service you need! I am just surprised you are having problems with VZW since all my friends and I LOVE them - they are the ONLY carrier to have reception/data everywhere in north Alabama.

Same here except that I had the bad experiences with Sprint and came to VZW.
IMHO I think most of the network problems right now are due to upgrades. Seems like wherever they are rolling out LTE there are problems during the process.
Moral of the story is that for any 2 random carriers X and Y, you'll always be able to find someone who's pissed off at X and moved to Y, then someone who had a bad experience at Y and moved to X. There are so many variables you really can't paint two situations the same.

I would agree with the upgrade statement, I was told they were upgrading several towers in my area. However, it certainly wasn't to LTE. At&t has mostly Edge data in my area and the towers were being upgraded to 3G - or so I was told.

I have very little time to be on the phone with these people for hours at a time and this texting issue isn't something that I can just act like it's not a big deal.

Are you running 4.0.4 and are you also having trouble receiving texts / you receive multiple text messages all at once? That would be a 4.0.4 issue, as well as sometimes missing calls from people / getting voicemails with no indication of an actual call. Going back to 4.0.3 unfortunately fixed these issues for me.

Moral of the story is that for any 2 random carriers X and Y, you'll always be able to find someone who's pissed off at X and moved to Y, then someone who had a bad experience at Y and moved to X. There are so many variables you really can't paint two situations the same.

This is true. But I think in any given geographical area there is a clear "better" carrier. At least I know there is a clear winner in my area, and I was one of the last of my group of friends to switch - I was holding out on the GSM networks to step their game up, but they failed to.
i was having MMS issues here. The issue was fixed when I manually entered the APN configuration (im using Go SMS which allows you to change these in Settings > MMS Settings > APN Configuration).
For verizon, just add "H T T P : / /mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms" to MMSC setting.

I called sprint today about my bad service in chicago and....

I called today to complain to sprint anD they apologized and said 10% of my calls were being dropped due to upgrade to NV and my data was bad because of it and since i been a longtime customer and have 3 lines i will be getting a 35 dollar credit for 4 months ohh and NV and LTE will be LIVE in chicago Sept 7
Im on my SG3
Were you expecting something from us?
Who quoted you Sept 7th?
And you believed them?...
@sunsparc no and no one like a smart ass
Im just telling you guys that are having the same issues so you guys can get a credit also
Im on my SG3
Yeah I've been having the same problems with my service and got the same response. Though this was back in July, so I never got the notice on LTE. Good looking out!!
so upgrades in one state can effect another state hundreds of miles away? :good:
Take those ETAs with a dumptruck full of salt.
I had a few hour layover at O'Hare yesterday and the Sprint network was horrible. Granted, last time I flew through I was rocking WiMax on my EVO, but I was expecting 3G to at least... work. My poor S3 couldn't get above dialup speeds, when it even worked at all. I hope for Sprint's sake that it was due to NV and that it won't take too long to complete.
Oh my service is terrible right now. Every other calls drops. I'll definitely call them up on Monday and see if I can get credit on my bill too. I've been with them a while and I have 4 business lines.
And did they ACTUALLY tell you Sept. 7th?

Yeah, it's most likely from NV. The Chicago market is being a ***** for Sprint to upgrade because the legacy (Motorola) equipment isn't compatible with the new (Samsung) equipment. Plus, the tower upgrades are happening way faster than Sprint can deploy the new backhaul, so dropped calls and bad data service are pretty common here. But things are picking up. By me in the suburbs, data speeds went from 300Kb/s at 3:30am to 1.5Mb/s at the same time in the same places. It shouldn't be too long now before NV is done and we get LTE.
Edit: Sep. 7 would be amazing. But isn't that around the time Baltimore is being launched? And didn't Sprint say that the Baltimore launch would be accompanied only by a few more markets in GA, KS, and TX? I'm personally hoping for Oct., maybe mid- to late-September.
Yes the sprint rep told me that september 7 nv will launch and that lte will be on live in chicago

So I chatted with Sprint today and to make a long story short, I will be getting NO credit for the dropped calls and poor service I am getting. Yes, I have two lines and yes, I have been a long time customer. :crying::crying::crying:

Dont waste your time with this. In spite of them admitting all my problems were with their network, they did nothing for me. Sprint sucks but we're the suckers for staying with them.
I have already seen LTE in the northwest suburbs (Bartlett at Army Trail and rt. 59). I don't think September 7th is a solid date, maybe a handful of sites will be ready but I don't think every area that is supposed to get it will get it by then. We can only hope!
i have called every week for the past 5 weeks; they really dont care that it doesnt work; i get no signal at work or my house when it used to be at least 3 bars; hoping for an improvement
Bad Service in Michigan
I'm getting pretty bad service in Michigan, lots of dead zones and dropped calls... I'm going to get my parents to try this and see if they do anything. (My parents pay for the phone service)
Maybe we should organize a "Sprint Sucks" day on Facebook. Im frankly tired of shelling out full price for half the service every month. I bet when those people that we have to talk to deal with someone like Time Warner, they dont expect to be told "Well, we know youre paying full price but we're only giving you half service and we know it but youre in a contract so be okay with it and eventually we'll get around to fixing it."
It blows me away how they just dont care and people wonder why Sprint is in so much trouble financially.
