[Q] Major problems with CM-7 after rooting - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since rooting my Wildfire and installing CM-7 I have had major problems. Among these are:
Phone note detected by HTC Sync
Screen lock not working
Home button (Up Arrow) not working
Advice on getting these problems sorted would be very much appreciated. If it can't be fixed where can I find a Froyo rom image to downgrade again?

Shipped roms are here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275680
I've never user HTC sync so can't comment on that but try this for the other problems. Reboot phone into recovery, make a nandroid backup, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (in advanced menu I think), flash stable version of cm7 again. If you want to backup your apps first use titanium.

1.HTC does not work on cm7
2.more info !!
3.Home button issue is found under home button binding settings ( I think its in launcher settings etc) I'm on sense Rom so can't check at moment.
Jokerdroid

Yeah actually why do you want to downgrade? Just try another Rom. Jokerdroid as mentioned by slymobi is a great rom

There are loads of roms to try (including jokerdroid). My personal advice if you want to minimise problems is always backup then wipe data, cache and dalvik cache before flashing any new rom.
Have fun

Just for clarification: If you root your phone and gain s-off you make your phone your own. This is the opposite concept to the one you follow when you have a phone with everything stock
The advantages are that you can decide what you want to install on your phone and how it will behave/act. Due to these facts you probably will have to do a few things/settings/configs manually because they're not done automagically with some bloating wizards (or even in the background).
Without any further information it pretty much looks to me that there are no problems at all. Just a question of configuration.
If you're new to custom ROMs I (personally) would suggest to stick with CM7 until you got an idea of the concept (because it's a very stable and highly/easily configurable ROM).
For the home button (BTW it's a house - not an arrow...) slymobi's suggestion should help. You could define the button's behaviour in settings / ADW settings. Lockscreen also could be set up in settings. Although LeWa, my current ROM, is based on CM7 it's not the same in menus - perhaps someone on CM7 could jump in and help
BTW: which version of CM7 are you using? I recommend 7.2 stable - all versions could be found here: CyanogenMod Downloads
If you don't want to play with CM7 because of the HTC sense missing: there are also some sense ROMs (if I'm correct Rempuzzle is the most stable? No sense fan here, sorry) and you could even flash the stock ROM if I'm correct - no need to downgrade...

I am using CM7 currently. First of all, HTC Sync WILL NOT work with CM7 as it is not an HTC ROM. 2nd, what is the problem with the screen lock? And which version of CM have you flashed? I am currently on CM7.2 Stable which is the most stable and most customizable ROM for our willy. For home button customization go to Settings>Input.(also try launcher settings from menu>home as suggested by slymobi.
Hope this'll help you.

Flashed CM7... and then reflashed a sense rom.

First time flashing a rom. Went for CM7. Was surprised how poorely packaged up stock android is. Things such as the dialer, calender, alarm etc. on stock look half complete, with very lacklustre UI's. Rather than spend hours looking for and downloading part decent alternatives, I just resorted to flashing a sense rom on it again. I think for speed, stock has the upper hand, but it seems faster primary because it's so lightweight.
Well it depends... I like the sense features but I like minimal design too. After putting the pros and cons together my opinion is that the sense ROMs are more complete for users like me. I am very sensible when it comes to design and I like everything to have the same design everwhere all over the OS. Only HTC does this and that is a winner for me. even if the closest thing to minimal is the slate theme... Nice looking though.
When it comes to speed there is no comparison between CM7 and any sense ROM. CM7 beats the Sh.. out of sense ROMS but I can live without that ultimate speed.
I have tried to like CM7 but I just end up going back to Sense ROMs. Now with InsertCoin CM7 + GingerBread + Sense 3.0 goodies, I don't see myself changing any time soon. The ROM is fast responsive and relatively quite bug free.
I agree I tried Ginger Villain and CM7 used them both for about 3 days and yeah the speed is blazing and the UI does very well at delivering a smooth stable experience, but soon afterwards i found my self missing that Sense touch, widgets, how hTC sense links your facebook contacts, the hTC mail widget, specific things like those found me flashing back to my beloved AuraxTSense. Right now the GB Sense 2.1 ROMS are IMO up right up there in terms of speed.
and what about mix of ginger sense? with sense 3.0?
what do you think of those ROM.s?
i flashed a couple of different 2.1 sense roms and love them, but i can't get them to work (can't install apps, and asking in the official threads gets you being called a moron)

aaawww, thanks...but i've been trying for 2 nights now and my brain is fried...i'm pretty sure i've given up
i've only ever used Cyanogen with S2E, with an sd-ext via Rom Manager, i'm S-On, rooted via Unrevoked, and after backing up and trying new roms and wiping and restoring, i realised when they say "CM7" they don't meant CyanogenMod7, they mean hboot (but i did laugh at myself!)
so yeah, i may try again in a couple of weeks

ok, thanks, i'll try again on the weekend...do i just use the terminal emulator instructions to move cache and dalvik to make more space for apps?
actually, that was one of the problems...market was trying to autoinstall and space was getting full so i couldn't install terminal emulator
If I am not mistaken A2SD+ installs the dalvik and all your applications automatically on the EXT partition.
I may be wrong as I am not using the A2SD+ version, I am on the CM7 Hboot version.
I like Sense, it's well designed, packs good features and all, but once i tried the speed of aosp roms i can't really go back . Customizing a bare aosp looking rom can be fun and challenging also, and i must say i quite enjoy that

I agree with you that cutomisation can be fun... but it can also be very very time consuming. Sense provides most of what you need in one neat package. Stock android just seems half done. Simple things like the interface for the alarm clock, the dialler etc. really bring down the overall look and feel of stock.
Now I'm running sense with ADW gingerbread skin. Feel like I got best of both worlds.

i can help with Cyan7
do a NAND backup just in case you don't like the ROM (trust me, sometimes you just want Sense back)
the ROM threads will tell you if you need to flash any extras, or sometimes you can flash them if you are having problems with something, but this can be done after the ROM flash...i did install the GAPPS after CM7
-backup the entire contents of you SD card to pc
-get Rom Manager from the market and create an ext-partition
-copy card contents back to SD card
-install Titanium Backup from market and periodically create backups...this will help to restore your apps and app data after flashing new ROMS
-NAND backup
-flash ROM
-get S2E from market, this will move your cache/dalvik/apps to SD
-in CM7, make sure you select to install apps to INTERNAL because S2E makes the phone think the ext partition is internal memory
(i think that's it, from memory)

Definitely do a nandroid backup.
I CM7 was the first ROM I flashed after hearing its reputation and to be honest yes it was blazingly fast and good but I missed the sense goodies and within a day I ended up restoring my backup of Sense.
n7of9, thats an odd issue you keep having with the market...
Did you factory wipe + wipe cache partition? SD Card formated with 1gb EXT and the rest fat32?

i will redo the ext partition (i wanted to avoid gparted because linux scares me)
but hey, yesterday i was installing "CM7" 2.1 sense roms because i thought it meant CyanogemMod (sshhh, don't tell anyone)

You don't need linux for gparted, you can use the live cd/usb and boot to it

[Q] Which ROM that used Original Gingerbread like Nexus S?

Newbie just get the Desire Z here
okay, the last time I flash my own phone is Dopod D900, which very simple to flash.. but that not the question I would like to ask right now.
I need u guys help me, as title above, which one a custom rom that working well and used original Gingerbread like Nexus S, original UI (not mod), stable, fast, and the function running perfect on Desire Z?
and one more newbie question, how to backup original rom (in case i need to go back to original rom), data like contact and message before flash it to custom rom?
thanks and really appreciate your responses
Um.. not exactly sure what you are asking for but here is a link to a stock Gingerbread ROM by xboarder56: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054574
It's apparently taken straight from the official OTA and is very stock. I've been using it for about 5 days now and really like it. The only thing I see missing is the cool little on/off screen animation but otherwise completely functional with no frills. Very easy to flash as well. I use ROM Manager (Clockworkmod) for backing up ROMS and phone numbers and all contact info is synched with my Gmail account, or otherwise is stored on the SIM. Not sure how Desire Z works or where you are located so I might not be much help on that.....

but except that guide, the phone must be root and S-OFF first right before flashing to ROM?
and do you know what is the app that can backup current SMS on original rom, but can restore it again to custom ROM that we flash?
Yes, you must be rooted with S-OFF to flash the ROM. As for SMS backup, I'm not too sure. I use Titanium to back up my apps, but not sure if it will back up actual SMS content as well.
okay bro, thanks very much

Can't flash custom roms

Hi all, I have a problem with my Desire Z. A few days ago I made root following instruction on wiki.cyanogenmod.com. Everything went fine until when I tried to flash custom rom. After each flash the phone will not boot and hangs at the boot screen. I tried MIUI, Virtuous Quattro RC1, RC2 and RC3, and even clean original rom from HTC. The only two roms I managed to install are ILWT CM7 and Virtuous Quattro Beta 9. Of course, I did full wipe before each flash. Can anyone help?

I've got the same problem with the Virtuous Quattro roms, you can try JIBwitch, Andromadus or CyanogenMod 9 for ICS. Those roms worked on my Vision. Sadly I can't help you to get those other roms, I'm still trying to figure out why this happens, if I figure it out I'll post it here.
Thanks fo reply. I tried JIBwitch and Virtuous Unity and same result. Freeze during booting...
At loading a new rom, the first boot can take up to 10 minutes. But if do you an ADB logcat while booting you should see a constant flow of messages, if this isn't the case something is wrong indeed. I am now on CyanogenMod 9 pre-Alpha 2.5 and it works like a charm. Can you try that one, and look if your device is doing something upon boot, with logcat?
Thanks for reply again. I tried again flash JIBwitch with adb logcat and its working Anyway Virtuous roms (Unity and Quattro) still not working...
No problem, glad you can use your device with ICS.
Now to figure out why the Virtuous roms won't work, I tried so many things I can't remember what I've done anymore. The best I can think of right now is that it is an download error somehow. I'll try tonight if I can flash quattro rc3 with a copy downloaded at work, and a copy downloaded at home. I'll post my results here again.
As I thought it seems to be an download error, the file I downloaded at home wont boot, while the file I downloaded at work works fine. Can you try to download the Quattro rc3 over another network??
When you rooted you may have flashed the g2 engineering hboot. So, even though you have a desire z you have the bootloader from a g2. You need the desire z bootloader to run the virtuous stuff and almost all other sense roms. Anything 3.0 and above.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
There is information from my hboot screen:
Vision Pvt Eng S-off
Hboot-0.84.2000 (PC1011000)
Microp-0425
Radio-26.03.02.18M3
eMMC-boot
So I think, I have not hboot for G2 but for Desire Z. Or I am wrong?
I am going to try download Virtuous Quattro by another network and flash again. Anyway I tried check mdl5 sum for files that I used to download and its matched.
First off, hello!
That's actually a Desire Z Engineering HBOOT you have, and not the G2 one. Applying the G2 hboot on our phone can potentially brick the phone.
Now you are saying you're wiping before flashing, but do you use Superwipe? If not, it's strongly advised that you do. This tool erases the OS partitions and format them using the ext4 filesystem. In addition to that, it also cleans the "EFS Data". EFS data is temporary radio config data, and it is advised to wipe them every time you flash a new ROM, so the radio can reconfigure itself, which has proven to fix a lot of issues, mainly with GPS but not limited to that.
Anyways, I decided to upload a version of Superwipe I had found and used numerous times for easy access. Here is the link: http://www.mediafire.com/?iygmwd1a7zrfe9p (Don't be distracted by the "G2", it works the same for both phones!) Also, the MD5 is E0B0AF31F22EE06BDE7748195F8AE651
What recovery do you have? ClockworkMod or 4EXT? I presume you have Clockwork Mod 3, since you mentioned you used the cyanogenmod wiki, It is a good idea to switch over to 4EXT Touch which has a lot of bugs fixed over from CWM and is faster as well as safer in general. The 4EXT site is here:http://www.4ext.net/
All credit goes to madmaxx82 for his hard work!
With all that said, there have been several users who couldn't get VQ RC releases to boot on their devices, would always hang them on the white HTC screen. The reason is still unclear though, we'll have to wait for an update from the Virtuous DEV's. You, also might have the same issues, hence be uncapable of booting it considering that in your reply you mention you can successfully boot Beta 9 but none of the RC versions, which was the case for the people with the issue in question.
As far as MIUI is concerned...which MIUI distribution are you using? MIUIAndroid or MIUI.us? Or did you flash an ICS MIUI release found here, particularly cjward's one...it uses the Virtuous Quattro kernel, hence the reason it didn't boot on your device. If that's the case, anyway.
Thanks for all advices!
I used CWM Recovery v. 3.x.x.x and also 5.x.x.x (not exactly sure which versions...)
Today I was trying 4EXT and SuperWipe for flashing VQ RC3 downloaded over another than my home network. But with same results as past. Everytime booting pass over HTC screen and freeze on Virtuous logo. It's mystery....
About MIUI - I was trying to flash MIUI_Au 4.0.3. I think that uses Andromadus kernel or not?
Anyway I am really satisfied with Ice Cream JIBwitch rom!

Poor wi-fi on htc one x (Cm10.1 Nightly)

Hello everyone!
After installing the latest roms, I got a very short reach of wireless. Goes no further than 3-5 meters. Is there a fix for this?
The baseband is 5.1204.162.29 and i am using the lastest rom (20130324)
Thank you all!!
Try a different rom.....preferably a sense rom, to test !
Hello Mr Hofs.
I already try many of them including the original ruu but nothing...
Do you think the rom damaged the hardware?
I don't think a rom will damage the WiFi module (hardware) I'm not saying it is impossible, but its very unlikely.
The WiFi was good, no problems when you ran the stock rom before unlocking and rooting ?
Hey,
Same prob for me too, doesn't happen with stock rom/sense roms.

This has happened with a nightly upgrade,I don´t remember which, probably 17032013 10.1 around that... Before was everything ok...
The only thing I have not tried was installing ics...

Just one more question, how can I downgrade the hboot to install the ruu ics?
You can't. Just get a 2.17 based nandroid backup from the collection in the general section.
Restore it and you have a stock ics phone. But the hboot stays at JB level. No problem
... Don´t have for my cid_203... And now?
Just get a random 2.17 one. They all run as a stock ics backup. Its not for updating purposes, only for testing
Or install a custom 2.17 Rom like the viper x 2.7
Nothing, even with ics...
Hmm that's crap ! One option i can give is to install a 3.14 based custom rom and then try different kernels.
Otherwise its almost hardware related.
Thank you Mr Hofs, i am gonna try once more installing various kernels.
If i have luck I I tell you something...
Just one more thing...
I read this:
"Wipe dalvik cache. Yes, it's important, the versions could have some binary level differencies (from different compiler options) which can lead to unknown behaviour with old dalvik code." By Xmister
I was never able to Wipe Dalvik cache, always gives me a error "E: unknow volume for path [/sd-ext]
Do you think it may be because of that?
No that's a normal error, we "all" have that.
Try to press down slidely on the screen just right of the volume up botton see if your WiFi picks up better signal.. if you see improvement its a hardware problem but there are ways to fix it. had a similiar problem

[Q] Downgrade from ICS to Gingerbread HTC Desire

Hello Guys,
I am new to this stuff, so can you please help me out. I got a second hand HTC desire with ICS installed on it. The problem is that the ICS version is very unstable on this phone and keeps on crashing which results in me loosing all my data and applications. Can I some how downgrade my HTC to it origional operating system - Gingerbread(2.3)? I tried factory reset but that just deletes all my applications and data. If there is any other way, can you please point me in the right direction? I would really appreciate. Thanks in advance.

turn off the phone and press and hold volume down + power and post what it says in bootloader.
u have ics so that means u should have recovery installed. maybe u can just flash another rom, something that is stable or even a pre rooted 2.3 gb rom. have a look in the development section, plenty of good stable roms there.
