Dock that works with Draco Bumper - Galaxy S III Accessories

Hi, I was wondering if anybody knows if there are any docks that work with the draco bumper. I'm only asking because the draco bumper seems to be quite large. I've had to buy 3 different aux cords because they wouldn't fit, and I don't want to waste time trying out different docks.

You could always consider buying a 'universal dock' that clamps to the sides of the phone and then plug the phone in with a normal cable. It's not really a dock per say but it'll definitely do the job of holding your phone upright/horizontal.
If you need a link to one just let me know.

Would you happen to know a car mount that would let me fit a S3 with the draco bumper and still let me use my camera while in place?

I have been using that for a while. all my devices and my GF's devices have a the metal plate installed (and most, like the s3) have it under the battery door, so you cannot see it) and I have one for the car, and one for work. anywhere i go, with whatever i take, i can mount without looking. I also ziptied a cable to it, and am running a tasker script to start car mode (triggered by bluetooth to my alpine ex-10)
and yes, you can easily use the camera with it.

Would this cancel NFC and if its a metal plate do you lose any reception? And how sturdy is it? I wouldn't want it falling off because of a few big bumps on the road, and I thought strong magnets aren't good for our phones.

I do not have a way to check the NFC cancelling...
there is no reception loss, as it is is as large the battery only, and the antenna is up top, away from the plate.
big bumps?
i live in central PA, and drive a car lowered on coilover suspension (and turned pretty tight too) and the phone has not budged an inch. perhaps i should do a review.. with the camera running during an autocorss and going over nasty bumps.
magnets mess up harddrives.. not phones.

I like these mounts, the page just went up today. It's much better than the crap Verizon is pushing. Anyone else ever use these docks?
I can't tell from the pics but does the one that have the charger block the audio out?
Never mind, I can see the audio jack now in the pics.
i came on to post this...I just got an email from proclip confirming this. Ive used proclip in the past and they are of good quality

Looks like it. I would like the active setup, but I will have a TPU case on it. I wonder if a heat gun can help me bend it out a bit.

I'm looking at the same problem here. I've been using a holder with the 2 amp charger for the past two years with my Incredible and absolutely love it. I've never been able to get an extended battery because of how tight it slides in, though. I'll email them and ask but I might have to just swap in the stock battery for rides I know I'll need the juice.
Pros of using this are great, though. Because it's 2 amp charger I would get ~25% in about 20 minutes of driving with my Incredible with fast charging enabled in the kernel. GPS and Bluetooth for Google Maps would slow the charge down but would still give me a full charge from 20% to full in an hour. With Cyanogen I would set my bluetooth to only turn on when connected to a wall charger so I'd slide this in and my buetooth would turn on and connect to my car automatically. Last but not least, your wires are all tucked away! Very clean look.
Does the mount hold the audio cable so it doesn't move and it plugs into the phone?
Any issues with the diztronic TPU case? Would it prevent the microusb or audio plugs from inserting into the phone completely?

If you get the universal dock, the bottom of the phone is completely exposed so you won't have any issues. I got my wife one of these (universal) for her iPod a few years back and the build quality is top notch.
i wish I didn't have to also plug in the cables separately, but maybe I can jerryrig something up.

If you don't want to remove the case, then you need to get the universal dock. I wish them made a version of the active dock that was slightly adjustable, but they don't.
My question is would the charging holder accommodate the extended battery given that it barely adds any thickness to the device. From the looks of the pictures, it looks like the device slides in and is held on to the sides only so it looks like shouldn't be a problem.
I contacted customer service and they said this:
Indeed the added battery won't make it work in 512324. Our adjustable holder listed with the Galaxy Nexus listing might work. Our custom holders are made for the device as it comes out of the box, and indeed any added thickness will make it not work in our custom holders.

Most extended batteries tend to add a lot of bulk (more than cases sometimes). The person who emailed you back may not be aware that the GN's extended battery adds about 1-2 mm of bulk to the bottom half of the phone.
Since the holder is a slide-in type, I can't see this being 'millimeter-tight'. Don't take my word for it but I'm willing to bet that this will fit even with the extended battery on.
I guess we won't know for sure until someone gets the fitted holders and try it though. I'd try, but I've a case so the fitted ones do me no good for sure.

80 bucks for that dock. Ouch. Good concept, but that is a bit rich.
I wish you could buy these at a store. I've already got the whole set for the Nexus One and I've been waiting for the GN mount. I just added to my cart and it's an extra $20 in shipping (to Toronto). So after duty at the border I'm looking easy at $60 just for that one piece of molded plastic. Yeah the mount is great, but that's seriously expensive.
I've used their cases for the last 2 years, nexus s and thunderbolt, and they are great. I still have my Nexus S holder and the picture of the one on their site for the GNex looks like the same style, if so it should work with the extended battery. The slide in case is tight on the sides but leaves a gap behind the phone, see attached pic. The phone slides into that groove and the groove itself is very thin so it doesn't appear it will interfere with the rear battery cover at all.
Proclips is a great solution. I've used it for my car for years. I used them in 3 different cars. Pricey however, it works very well. A+
Got a negative response =(
Unfortunately not. We only have adjustable holder with charging for our Apple line. These have all the same connectors in exact the same location.
For other phones there are too many differences in charging location and thickness of cases.

It was to be expected. They are not going to design a niche product for a phone until it sells consistently in the millions. That said... Creating a Micro USB small swing arm to make it universal should be too hard....
If I feel industrial, I might see what I can make on my own.

Tetrax Magnet Mount for Galaxy Nexus

Has anybody tried the tetrax mounts yet with their galaxy nexus? Before I purchase one I'm curious of two things.
1. How well does the the magnet stick to the battery door since the battery cover is textured? I have an extra cover that I'll use simply for this.
2. Does the magnet interfere with the NFC and/or screen at all?
In case your not sure what I'm referring to:
http://store.tetrax.us/xway-line/fixway
I have used this on other phones, including my G2, MyTouch 3G and G1 and it worked very well on all those phones. However, due to the textured back on the Galaxy Nexus, the metal button that stick to the battery door does not stay on. I have tried replacing the double sided tape with stronger automotive 3M tape, but that doesn't work either. It'll stay on for a little while and come back off. The only solution would be to find a battery door that is smooth.
I can't answer if it interferes with NFC or the screen, but it shouldn’t. If anything, it might interfere with the magnet on the compass, but that has not been the case with my other phones.

Thanks,
So you've actually tried it on the GNex and it don't stick very well? Did you by chance try holding it on there for several hours with a strong clamp or anything? I really want one of these but worried it's a waste of money with this phone
I have actually tried it, but not with a clamp. Just following the regular directions. On my other phones, it created a very strong bond and it takes a lot of effort to remove. With the Nexus, it stays on the first couple of times you mount it, but that's about it. It's not an issue with the weight, as the G2 feels twice as heavy as the Nexus, especially with an extra capacity battery. It's the texture on the battery door. It almost feels like it has a Teflon coating.

Would you mind holding up one of the magnets to the battery door and test out the NFC to see if it interferes with it (if you have the ability to). This is my main question as I could always put the magnet on a case I guess.
Thanks!
I don't have another NFC device to try it right now, but my brother has the Nexus S and I can try it when I see him later tonight. The magnet doesn't go on the battery door though. What you stick on the battery door is just a piece of metal. The actual magnet is on the device that you mount to your dash or vent, so unless you plan on using NFC while it's on your dash, it should not interfere.
Plus, NFC uses low power radio frequency to transfer information (similar to Bluetooth). It does not use magnets. The only thing in the phone that could be affected would be the compass, as it finds your relation to magnetic North. Even then, I'm sure the compass works through software and is not an actual magnet, as it has never affected GPS. As a matter of fact, I have 2 Tetrax products, the one that mounts to the dash, which I have in my car, and the one that you attach to the vent for when I use a rental on trips for the sole purpose of Navigation. As you can imagine, I was very disappointed when I could not get the metal button to stick. I might have to try it with a case also.

Awesome so yea I don't think it'll interfere because I was thinking the part you stick to the back of the phone is magnetic, but if your saying it's not all should be well. Either way I went ahead and ordered it yesterday anyway so I'll figure out a way to get it to stick to either the door or a case. Thanks for your insight!
Nope, it's just a metal button. It actually comes with 4 or 5 different ones of all sizes and styles.
I have this installed on my nexus, I put the mount on my dash and the NFC sticker on my knob for the ac that get covered up. Everytime I put my phone on the mount, the nfc changes it to car mode, volume up, full brightness and launches sirius xm radio...works very well, sometimes I have to move it a bit to get to read the nfc, but thats only cause i have the nfc a little too far at the bottom of the phone and it mounts at a slight angle, not due to any interference at all. I have NFC chips all around and never have problems reading them at all, probably a good idea not to mount the metal chip right in the middle of the battery area, just in case. I also used a clamp to hold it on for about 3 or 4 hours and has had little trouble sticking to the texture.
I have had a few incidents if I pull off the phone, rather than slide it off the backing will actually unclip a single clip.
@ejkeebler what do you mean by NFC stickers all around? Did you make stickers to automatically change your settings on your phone? That's brilliant! How did you do it?
I might also have to try a clamp. I don't really want to put a case on my phone.

I also have NFC stickers everywhere. have them when I walk in the front door of my house, one in my office at work, one in each vehicle, one in my wallet LOL. They are awesome. Set them to change settings or do tasker tasks and you can rewrite over them if you ever want to change anything. One of the best phone features I've ever used. That's why i was concerned about the magnets interfering with the NFC!

www.tagstand.com to purchase the tags. Tell him DCoy82 sent you! The 30mm ultralight c circle NDEF formatted seem to be the only ones I've bought that work with the nexus so far.
Once you get them you can download program called NFC Task Launcher off the market to program them.

That is so awesome. This is my first phone with NFC so I'm barely starting to learn all the cool things that you can do with it. I tried Android Beam for the first time with my brother on Tuesday and it works great, though I wish you could beam other things such as pictures. By the way, the metal button does not interfere with NFC. I will let them know that you recommended me. Thank you!
If your interested in NFC, here's a few spots that got me started

and the tags I bought were from here:
http://tagsfordroid.com/tags/Home.html
I got them cause i liked the having the android on them, i think they are a tiny bit less expensive elsewhere, and these are a little thicker than I'd like (like a puffy sticker, about the same thickness of a penny) but you can get many in other places.
by itself i'm not sure nfc task launcher does it for me, but in combination with tasker, it's ridiculous how much can be done....would still love to see what others have come up with.
I love those stickers with the Android! Thanks for the links. I will need to read up on it more. I am definitely interested. This is a lot more exciting stuff then what Google showed off at the I/O last year!
Thats a good idea. Being in IT, we have dead Hard Drives laying around that have awesome magnets in them. They're real slim. I bet I could superglue one to my nexus's battery cover for under the TPU case that would hold. They're thin so it might not screw with the case (but it might).

Yeah, it looks like it's $8 for 2. I just picked up 5 over at tagstand.com for the same price and found 10 for $13 over at http://buynfcstickers.com.
Hopefully you guys are all having good experience with the guy at tag stand. His customer service was great for me and I'll definatley be going back there in the future.
Oh and by the way, I got my new tetrax magnet set in today and not having any issues with the magnet at allowing necessary nor with the metal part sticking to the stock battery door. Only real issue so far is you have to slide it off just right or the battery door just pops off the nexus lol. Highly recommend though!

The Perfect Vehicle Dock That Works With A Case?

In search of a vehicle dock that will accommodate the size of the Galaxy S III with a case.
Preferably one that fits in the heating/AC vents, or mounts on the front of your dashboard and not on top of the dashboard. I guess one without the suction cup.
Going to be mainly used for Navigation.
Any suggestions?

That looks really cool. Does it go it and out of the CD player easily? Do you just leave it there or is it easy enough to quickly plug in when you want?
Does it still "see" the satellites well enough from the lower position in the car?
I assume you can confirm the GS3 fits well in it even though it says it's for iphone?
Anyone know of other CD mounts to compare to?

Best car holder I've ever had!
Don't know if people just don't know about these or just don't like them. I got mine back in February and used it on my old E4GT and now the S3, I absolutly love it! The key is, for me anyways, getting a TPU case( always use TPU so no biggie there ) take an exacto knife and cut a perfect sized cut out for the tiny magnet. If you do it correctly the looks isn't bad at all( use the small magnet, works fine for me ) and more importantly it wont 'wobble' on the table, lays flat. Sorry don't have any pics of my old setup and haven't cut out my new one yet. Also, nice that we have replaceable back covers in case you're worried about it marring up the back if you want to remove it later.
As far as construction quality, magnet hold strenght both are superb, haven't hadd one inceidentl fall off the holder. Also magent doesn't seem to interfer with wifi or cell at all. NFC I haven't tested yet, but my suggestion would be to mount it towards the top side of the case away from the battery( like were the carrier logo is on the back )
Anyways just my 2 cents, check out youtube they have a couple good reviews of it on there.
http://eshop.tetrax.us/
I can't post pics/links but I followed Lifehacker's guide to making a car mount out of office supplies (site should be easy to find with that information). It works surprisingly well, even with the size of the S3 and the fact that my vehicle's vents aren't perfectly suited for the application. I thought it'd be kind of ghetto but it's hidden while in use and easy to remove and stash away when not in use.
I'll make a thread with pics once I have enough posts.
I got this one: http://www.amazon.com/SLIM-GRIP-WIN...CAR-STEREO/dp/B004H4FN6Q/ref=cm_aya_orig_subj

Take your time and look around. There's plenty of car mounts that will fit this phone with a case.
Seems like most are the suction cup kind
will work for any phone even tablets
Sorry long time forum reader but first time posting. I can't post a link but search "soundgate m2 car mount"
You can probably find them cheaper. Used my for the og dinc for 2 years. I put the disc on my case instead of the phone. But I would have no reservations to put it directly on the phone as the disc is extremely unobtrusive. Just clean the spot you want to mount the arm really well with included wipe or rubbing alcohol. The arm mounts with a 3m adhesive pad and folds almost flush when not in use. Very slick. Put the discs on anything you want to dock to the arm. I forget how much weight it can handle but I saw a tablet being used as well. Sorry tried to upload pictures and after an afternoon of searching the forums on how to do it, i still cant get it. Just google "soundgate m2 car mount" you wont be dissapointed.

you just kinda put it in the vents, and then bend it down. works great! It really stays put too. Check out the gallery section on the site, there are other pics of it in the vents. Got one for a friend and he loves it. It really does hold tight in the vent, even more so then ones designed for the vent. Easy to take out too

Amazon review for this one you got are generally very good.

It goes in very easy. It only takes a few seconds to install. It holds the S III securely even with a case on it.

Does it hold the phone in the vertical position, or only horizontal?

NFC I haven't tested yet, but my suggestion would be to mount it towards the top side of the case away from the battery( like were the carrier logo is on the back )
Anyways just my 2 cents, check out youtube they have a couple good reviews of it on there.

wow that's nice! Why did you have to cut out a hole in your case, the link says it comes with a case (I'm assuming with the magnet attached)!

ProClip. It is a little more money, but well worth it. I would get the proper mount for your vehicle (vent or side mount) and the adjustable phone mount so you can use it with a case. The also make a clip so you can move the mount from car to car.
Sadly, mine was recently stolen, but they offered me a discount because of my loss.
So I created a ghetto version as a sort of joke in exchange.

I use this one and I love it.. http://www.amazon.com/MSW-Exogear-Exomount-Universal-Mount/dp/B004Z8ZLOS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342868939&sr=8-1&keywords=exogear+car+mount

Super glued a Super Magnet to the back of the Moto 360...and now it won't charge!

Hi I just have a general, well more specific question, about the Moto 360 smartwatch. See, I have always liked using the Moto 360 with the watchbands detached. It just sits more comfortably in my hand and I would rather have a cool, smaller, lighter, and easier to use option aside from my actual smartphone. It's great for driving too because you can change the music and do simple tasks with one hand while the other is on the steering wheel (only at certain times of course). The only issue with this is I don't have a way to quickly pull out my watch and put it back in my pocket without too much of a fuss. People usually say to this: "Taking out your watch and putting it back in your pocket to do things? Why not use your phone?" So what I did was super glue a super magnet to the back of the watch and another to a belt clip. This way it can always be at my side when I need it. I can use it without the bands, seated comfortably in my hand, and when I don't need it I can slap it back onto my belt clip. So. The only issue with this whole situation is that the magnet super glued on the back of the Moto 360 prevents the Moto 360 charger, which I believe is some sort of magnetic device, from actually charging the device which makes this whole set up seem pointless. So I was hoping someone here would know a way to still charge the device or even better yet show me a better set up other than the magnets that I can use for my desired effect. Okay thank you guys for reading all of this and I hope someone can help me here.
I don't think there is really a way to do what you want without a lot of work. Wireless charging at this point in time struggles to get through thick phone cases let alone a magnet. I can't think of a good solution to do what you want either.
Well someone had suggested I use Velcro straps, which I think might work but how annoying would the sound if constant ripping off Velcro straps be throughout the day? (Not rhetorical) I just duct taped the magnet to the back of the watch is that way when I need to charge it all I have to do it take it off. I'm hoping Velcro would be a little less tedious. Any opinions between those two options?
What you may be able to do is get a fast boot usb cable as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-360/accessories/cradles-moto360-usb-conection-sale-t2901110 so you can charge it, but it will take some modification to the watch itself.

So the fast boot cables si charge the Moto 360? That might really work. See in all of the information I found about fast boot cables, none if them mentioned it the cable actually charges the watch. Would you happen to know how fast or slow the charging us compared to the standard charger? (The standard charger is pretty fast for me)

As I don't actually own a cable (to scared and broke to try it if it damages the watch), I can't speak from experience, but according to Root Junky http://www.rootjunky.com/moto-360-adapter-usb-cable/it does. It also includes a video on how to create said cable. I did a lot of research before ultimately deciding it was not worth it. However it may be a good solution to your problem.
why not velcro the watch to the magnet , that way when you need to charge it all you gotta do is pull it apart, that way you can keep the magnet with your belt buckle or clip that the magnet attaches to, you could even cut a hole in the middle of the velcro on the watch to have the heartbeat sensor visible?

That would be a good idea except the magnets I'm using are much stronger than the Velcro alone. It's that neodymium material or "super magnets" as they are called by the brand I buy.

Yes but the watch would be detachable from the magnet you might have to down grade the magnet so it's not as strong
The wireless charging uses magnetism, so it is impossible to charge with one on the watch. There's a different type of Velcro that is way different and is silent. You could try to find that and then use it.
Use a very thin piece of metal glued to the back of the watch. I have a small round metal plate glued to the back of my note 5 and the wireless charger still works. I use the plate so i can stick it to a magnetic holder on the dash in my car. Look up WizGear on Amazon and you should see what I'm talking about.

Why doesn't this case exist?

I've spent the better part of the week scouring for good s8+ cases that would be compatible with wireless charging and in the end I've hodge podged pieces into a frankencase
seeing as I'm probably going to make myself a case I thought I'd share the elements of what I was looking for and ask if I'm just crazy for wanting so much or if I'm not alone.
I don't need much coverage, mostly the corners and a raised edge in case it does fall but otherwise I'm not concerned with protecting the fronts and backs given how rarely I drop my phone if I've got an actual grip on it no thanks to the slippery materials they use
I'd like direct access to my buttons, many cases have their own button that pushes the actual button, I've never enjoyed this as it's usually stiff or hard to press and often hard to distinguish from the case itself
wireless compatibility is a must for me given the fact I'm not only on the road most of the day but I'm constantly in and out of the vehicle where I'm definitely not leaving my phone that I'll probably actually need, and having to work a harness gets annoying during regular use imagine 30+ times a day
this means something magnetic so it sticks in place like the airdock 2 which I have no idea if it's compatible with s8+ or not as of yet
getting back to the in and out I need a hip holster because I spend way more time texting and taking photos of job sites than talking so a headset is less important than not having to fish for my phone
lanyards are just good ideas, why is it so rare to find them let alone on a rugged case?
a kickstand doesn't have to be complicated either and doesn't need an entire phone length if you know what you're doing with it, spigeon has a nice stick on that generally gets the job done, or even those ring mounts double as kickstands and great dash magnet mounts
who puts a card holder behind the case right in the magnetic field of wireless charging? it's called a folio cover geez, even those work as kickstands in a pinch as flimsy as they are in that capacity.
granted with all the mobile payment options these days you generally don't need to worry about a card in the first place so it's coming time to uncouple those two
and on a side rant why are we still using adapters and converters for magnetic break away cables? shouldn't this be standardized by now?
I'm going to sketch up the case I'm thinking of and post back maybe you guys can tell me why it's such a ridiculous idea to have.
I wanted the equivalent of an iBolt with a wireless charger in the end I wireless charge at home and use a magnetic power connector on the car.
All the ones I found only gave portrait and I preferred to use landscape
What car charger are you using?

I'm looking to buy still, just got my s8+ a couple weeks ago, with the unveiling of the note8 I almost took it back
as of right now for in the car I'm using https://www.amazon.com/BESTEK-300W-Power-Inverter-Adapter/dp/B004MDXS0U/ with cables
not sure I want to have to add in something to a case to make it compatible I'd rather the case be compatible to begin with, many magnetic chargers work just fine without add ins
https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/10wBkiHyNDZF969vzCDtKLQ8TI5XLnB5wJ3GOLJJhA-8/edit?usp=sharing
basically just imagine some time on the dremel to cut out everything covering up the back as much as possible except maybe leaving a bit near the edges
if I have the ring it'll be near the power button
and the kickstand will be probably above the camera or down by the fcc text, very small chance I do it vertical by the bixby button
pair it with a belt clip, and maybe something like a folio cover under the screws if I do feel like having cards
if I can do this with existing parts and a dremel why can't one of these case makers?
I'm trying to figure out how I would do a swivel like the ring but with something as long as a kickstand for more angle options, found one custom stent on a case that could work, not sure yet if that's how I want to do it?
figured it out, answer is no kickstand, there's 3 places I legit need a kickstand and I can just get stands and put them there
apparently there isn't much of a phone case modding scene I can find.... does everyone just live with the cases they buy? can't everything be improved with some ingenuity?
My new case, ticks most of the boxes
