FH15???? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

my wifes eg4t has asked her to update to the above twice now and neither has worked...it just sits at the Android with the yellow triangle with the ! insode of it for hours until i pull the battery. her phone is running stock, rooted with a custom recovery...could this be why the flash wont take!?!?

Do you mean FH13? The reason it isn't taking the update is because it has a custom recovery. The device must have stock recovery, and in my experience, no removed stock apps if running stock w/root.

You can just save the hassle of all this stock recovery if you want... by using this one click (non rooted) update to FH13
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835033

You should be able to find the complete one click odin method that does not do a data wipe. So of you upgraded to fh13 and want to go back to ff18. Then find the one click no data wipe and that may do it. If you want tl go back to el29 do the same thing. However going back from ics to without a data wipe could prove faulty. But you could odin back to ff18 then do a titanium back up to back up all apps and data. Then do a complete odin based wipe back to el29 then try and restore via titanium. That may give you the all around solution you guys are looking for. But it's all theoretical have not tried this exact method myself but should work.

Is FH13 being pushed by Samsung or something? I was wondering why the notification looked a bit different from previous ota's then I noticed the update is coming from the update Samsung software section and not the update firmware like in the past. Just curious since that option never gave us an update before lol

Honestly I love the idea of Samsung pushing the ota's directly. Something about Sprint I just don't trust. Feels like they just sit on their butts most of the time..

El30 update on ei22 cleangb?

Hello once again! I am currently on the CleanGB rom rooted with cwm, ei22 and I keep getting a popup asking me to upgrade to EL30.... from what I've been reading its a little sketchy...
Anyways, my questions are:
If I were to upgrade, would I have to go back to stock ec05 and upgrade to ei22 then el30, then root and install cwm again? (And what are the pros/cons)
And if I wanted to hide this update message permanently how would I do that?

Yes to upgrade you have to odin back and let it install... to hide the notification let it try to install and when it errors out pull battery and reboot...

If you mean the EL30 maintenance update it is some minor fixes and a few touchwiz changes. I would just kill the update notice and wait a few days for CleanGB to be on EL30 unless you like stock.

The biggest thing EL30 does is gets rid of the battery sucking spyware CIQ!
I have cleanGB and am allowing the EL30 update to fail so it will leave me alone.
When it fails, does it just hang with the exclamation point in the triangle with the droid guy? Or does it actually tell me it failed?

It says it failed for a second then hangs at the exclamation point. just pull the battery and put it back in and reboot.

This happened to my wife's epic this morning. She tried to install the update on her rooted epic (no custom ROM) and it gave her a "failed" notice and froze for about an hour. She didn't know what to do so she took out the battery and all works fine now, no update.
I'm wondering if the failure was just because of the phone being rooted, even though she is not on any custom ROM. Anyone know if this is the case?

Yes the keyboard fix probably kept her from updating... there are some stock el30 roms in development that you can flash for in cwm... Answer:
1. use R.E., remove the files .zip in the directory /cache
2. scroll down the notification bar and select upgrade message, then select upgrade. the phone will reboot automatic.
3. the phone will stay in the screen with an icon, now remove the battery and put it back.
4. press voldown+camera+poweron, boot in cwm, select "reboot...." and the phone will reboot in android. then the notification will never appear.

I know it's superficial but that's pretty much the only thing I cared about for the EL30 OTA. I've been running CleanGB 1.0.4 MTD as long as it's been available with no complaints.
Love that new callscreen though! The rest of my family just got onto my plan with 3 stock Epics for Christmas, and their new call screens make me jealous. Haha!

Mtd is a parition like bml... except with mtd you (the devs) can choose how big they want /system /data and /cache.... and instead of rfs/ext4 you have the yaffs2 filesystem which is really stable... unlike ext4 if you have to do a battery pull you won't get corrupted data like you do with ext4

Don't believe this is an update. This is simply the stock firmware that came with the phone. It might come in handy if/when something goes terribly wrong and a backup won't fix your issue.

I'm not exactly sure if this is the stock tar or not.....
BUT if it is, you should be able to just restore your stock nandroid and pull out the recovery file and put that in the pda slot of odin.
Or just put the entire tar in the pda slot... looking for some confirmation on this

I'm just concerned about whether that Device Status field in the About Phone settings is something that is stored underneath the OS and can't be changed once you flash something. This would be an easy indicator that the phone has been messed with and clear void of warranty for normally clueless reps even if you do a return to stock type flash. Before I rooted, it said "Factory Mode“ but now says "Modified“. I haven't touched anything else other than flashing CWM and Superuser.

Tried to update OTA using CWM, but un-rooted. Fail.

I got my notification to update to L710VPLG2 and chose the install now option. It failed because I had CWM installed. Doh! I forgot to remove CWM.
So, I uninstalled CWM, unrooted and went back to the stock recovery. Now the Device Status is: normal.
However, I can't get the device to find the update when checking Update Samsung Software.
When I reverted to the stock recovery using this method, it went back to PALF9 with a date of Wednesday May 23. Before I installed CWM and used EpicTeam's recovery last week, the phone was updated had a date of June 28.
Any ideas? Does anyone have a download of L710VPLG2 available?
Many thanks!

Unfortunatley the install fails both from stock recovery and CWM.
I get a long winded message that says: Verifying current system... assert failed. Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip.
I am choosing the ZIP file you provided both in stock recovery and CWM.
CWM probably doesnt read the update script the same as stock. It looks like the stock recovery is looking for the update in a different location "/tmp" I would just go back to complete stock, get the update, then restore data.
I flashed the .zip from CWM successfully....

Went into CWM and chose the ZIP file, installed and you were good to go?
For me, when I removed CWM, it also downgraded my kernel.

I was hoping there was some sort of manual or push check besides the one under Settings, Update.
So, when I reverted to stock using Team Epic's instructions my kernel went back a month in date. Screenshot 1 is from when I installed CWM and rooted. Screenshot 2 is when I removed CWM and root using Team Epic's instructions.
Obviously, I've rebooted quite a few times without any further notifications after the initial one failed.

I was getting annoyed with the popup reminder too. I flashed the stock recovery via Odin and accepted the updated. Flashed CWM and re-rooted
I am willing to bet a DEV out there will work on a rooted stock rom with the latest...at least there will be an updated custom rom in the next few days..bet freeza, phantom, clark44 or kmullins will have a custom ready in a day or two. They are nicer anyhow, I mean, isn't that why we are all here?

Need some help guys!?

My friends has a gs3 he purchased on release day and rooted it. The past week he accepted two ota's which broke his root. So I'm trying to root it for him but here's where the confusion kicks in. On sprints website it actually show these updates are old and not new and there's two more recent ones he never got pushed to him. Right now the phone is on LG2 and won't update any further. What do I need to do to be up to date with root. Should I just look for a way to root this build or try updating it. By the way I haven't seen any root methods for this build which is why I'm asking. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds

The method he used to root it in the first place should work again. Try that.
Then once it's rooted again go to this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099
Download the file "LI3 STOCK WITH AUTO COUNTER RESET" in the first post and flash the file in recovery. That will put the phone to 100%stock, unrooted, on the latest build.
From that point, if he wants to, he can reroot the phone and install the latest TWRP recovery. After that, tell him not to accept any OTA updates. Come back here to the development forum and someone will have the update in flashable form so that root isn't lost.

Yup thats the most easy way of doing it. you say ur not rooted but do you have custom recovery? If so then re rooting before the flash wouldn't be necessary.
It will not wipe data however its recommended that you do. granted it will probably work just fine if it being installed over top of a stock Rom. Then to keep root/recovery just follow the instructions in the post

Yes it is stupid proof but it also makes you have to take an extra step to reset the count. On my phone I just deal with the Odin OC which don't mess with your counts and come rooted then mobile Odin for the rest. Never have to worry about a flash count. But anyways thanks for all the help guys! I'm going to try and get this done tonight. Even though we both going for the note 2 in just a matter of days

Try flashing this. It's more stock then anything (odin in download mode)Follow directions in the thread here. Should be safe once ya do this (i've soft bricked both my Epic and my Epic touch a few times) And this is a Rooted EL26 (GB) rom as well. Hope it helps.
If you can get into DL mode, you can also use the one-click EL29 . It takes all the guesswork out of Odin settings plus it gets rid of the yellow triangle. Every time I have been able to get back to DL mode I have used this method. I will try to find the link, but there is a great video on YouTube done by QBking77.
Here it is

Let us know when you get back to stock EL29. Also where do you want to go with this and what do you want to do? Are you looking to be stock rooted or install custom roms?
Also, once you get to EL29, your phone will check for upgrades. If you want to stay there on GB, stay rooted, or install roms, do not accept the upgrade.
Stock before my mess up I had 4.0.4 and after doing these step I hope to get back to that just rooted. After that maybe clockworkmod and throw in a rom for ics...., I have to do updates manualy right? If phone is rooted?

Yes, you will need to install them manually with Odin, Mobile Odin, or CWM after you are rooted. Figure out what ICS rom you want before you do anything and let us know if you need any help. BTW, there are a few JB roms that are decent daily drivers as well.
Were you able to get back to EL29 okay?

I believe so. I have never done that. Once I rooted, I have never went back to stock.
Havent got a chance to try and flash to el29 yet. Left my phone at my gf house for the night so gotta wait tell she brings it over in the morning. As soon as I jump on all this ill let yall know .
i flashed this---->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721229./ and every thing works great. now im gonna flash this custom romhttp://phantomroms.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=13&pid=83#pid83. to do so i need to flash a custom recovery correct and calkulins?
It is considered safer to flash from a GB kernal, but whatever the instructions call for on that custom rom do that. BTW, I have never flashed a rom from any thing other than EL29 direct boot CWM and EL26 stock w/ CWM5.
