[Q] Rooting Xperia arc s - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since I am new to this forum I am not allowed to post to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460&page=3 Can anyone tell me if this method would work for xperia arc s running build no .587, with locked bootloader. I am new to rooting so fear messing things up so want to make sure that this will work before I try it out.

Try it and see.

try this
thanks to Overlo4d for this tutorial
1) flash the 4.1.A.0.562 kernel http://www.mediafire.com/?twn09p8ekug46f7 (thanks to sathurnn)
note: you might get errors after the reboot, don't worry, this is normal and step 3 will fix that.
2) root your Arc/s with DooMLoRD's tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1601038
3) flash the 4.1.B.0.587 kernel
Arc S kernel only:
http://i.minus.com/1345808607/vsMMtn...ernel_only.ftf
worked for me

Does any one know some tutorial like this for the 431? I`m new here too, and i got tired of getting my cellphone stocking. plz help!

[Q] Can anyone post to root 4.0.4 kernel the OneClick way? [Arc S]

Need help regarding my Arc S
i am on locked bootloader 4.0.4 ics. I dont want to unlock bootloader and do any fast boot mode, cwm or to remain in 4.0.3 kernel with skipping 4.0.4 kernel while flashing to 4.0.4 full update, then flashing 4.0.4 individually later way , etc ...
I understand both 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 kernel version are same but still 4.0.4 isn't rootable the old Root Exploit One Click way, which was used for 4.0.3 . So definately there could be some difference mayb better battery performance, they would have locked to not be able to root the old way and something new is needed for it? i mean they maybe would have just modified the same kernel version...
so please would highly appreciate anyone's help if one can provide me root 4.0.4 kernel the One Click way .

That's exactly what he said he DIDN'T want to do. LOL!
@shantusingh, there is no other way currently known to root 4.0.4 other than the steps you mentioned in your first step.

thanks for understanding and for letting me know, though hope one simple way comes out soon..
my basic idea is as like many others, we try different generic and in end we would only want our generic to be running when it officially comes because maybe we get less bloatware, better performance or could be anything..
so i want when i get 4.0.4 update then i cleanely update with root one click way... to get everything my generic with root in the end, even if other generic's kernel verison, etc be the same...
So i am counting on the genius devs here!
if we don't get root one click way for 4.0.4, then my other idea is i will officially update 4.0.4 via pc camp when it comes to india .. and when i get it i will check it with the 4.0.3's kernel version screenshot that i will already save to pc. So if they will be the same.... i will then only flash 4.0.3's kernel then will root my phone the old one click way ....
after that then will flash my phone with 4.0.4's kernel from 4.0.4 update ftf which was leaked on xda as i wont mind flashing other generic if everything matches. So i then will get it confirmed everything from stock that what i got in my region was the same aswell i didn't missed anything and will in end have stock 4.0.4 with stock 4.0.4 kernel(of other generic, but if version and everything will be same so can say indian kernel aswell) rooted! this way. Will do all this only if root one click simple way isn't developed for 4.0.4
Hope people understood what i am tring to explain the logic, it is very complex and absurd but all in the end all i am asking is to get same simple way to root 4.0.4 in the end

[Q] Xperia Arc S Root

Hello xda forum!
I´m kinda noob in the world of custimizing android devices, my first device was a SGA so that was an easy one, but now I have a xperia arc s with the official 4.0.4 rom made by sony the build number is 4.1.B.0 and I want to root it but i can´t, I have tried the DooMLoRD_v1_Xperia-2011-ICS-ROOT-emu-busybox-su.zip method but it failed i think because it requires the build no 4.1.A , the 2nd atempt was to flash a kernel made also by doomlord to put the build number into 4.1.A or somthing like that but it also failed becuse i can´t boot into fastboot mode, so i made a research around xda forum and I found that some devices are locked by the mobile operator, so they can´t boot into fastboot mode. Now my question is does this device is rubish or do I have a solution? what can i do?
thanx!! to all the people that can help me.
P.D.1: sorry for my bad english xD
P.D.2: don´t be like "uuhh! look around xda, you´ll find the answer" please I need some help.

"Always working" method is flash 6.1.A.2.50 with Flashtool (without wiping anything, except if you wish) and root with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Rooting itself is done in 5 minutes. Flashing? Also 5 mins.
6.1.A.2.55 firmware is not rootable, you can just flash prerooted .55 rom in CWM, but for that you still need rooted .50.

I can't deal with "I think", you either have or you haven't, from the video link...
The 3-step process is as follows:
- flash 4.1.B.0.587
- flash an insecure (lower build) kernel
- root using the 2011 Xperia ICS Rooting Toolkit
- flash back the 4.1.B.0.587 kernel

There are a lot of reasons as to why rooting is great! Here's a google search
Main benefits include debloating your phone of useless apps that were once not removable, modding your phone with different features, and tweaking your phone to make it faster
good luck!

What does the ftf file includes?
Does it also include stock kernel and baseband with the firmware? or do I have to install them manually?

I recommend you flash the GB rom, since it is fast. ICS is laggy. I don't think the buyer would be satisfied if it lagged

Yes but then when the buyer connects the phone to a pc, it will prompt him to install pc companion. Then it will prompt him to install ICS. So then, he will have a choice . But if it came with ICS and he didn't like it, it will be harder to downgrade to GB in that case. So better flash the stock GB

I did everything... All done.. Thank you all guys
I installed this firmware: Official ICS update Arc&Arc-S 4.1.B.0.431
And then relocked bootloader...
But now I have notification: system update available 4.1.B.0.587 , should I update or not? I read somewhere on xda that users were reporting bricked phones after OTA updates... because of unlocked bootloader (they said).. And I don't want that next user to click on it and then have a bricked phone, and I can't just hide the notification... if they do factory rest , the notification will pop up...
so now is it ok to update or not? or if you can link me to 4.1.B.0.587 firmware to install it...
