Dolphin Browser removed support for Flash in the latest version as it is not supported officially by Android.
You would have to side load an older version on Dolphin Browser, or use the stock one.

Stock browser works really well and supports Flash. IMO a 3rd party browser isn't necessary.

Thank u all great feedback

Youtube not opening by default on click

Afternoon all
Did a search but couldn't find anything dealing with this particular issue (if I've missed something, please point it out.).
When I use the native browser and hit a YouTube link, the browser opens up the HTC flash player/streaming media player. But I want it to open the YouTube app, like my HTC Hero used to.
I've tried clearing the defaults for the flash player, streaming media player, youtube app and internet but no joy.
If I try the same test using the Dolphin browser, I get the option to open youtube links with the youtube app, which is what I want the native browser to do!
Does anyone know how to get the native browser to handle youtube links with the youtube app?
Cheers

Bueller? Anyone?
anybody..
It's the same on mine. Can't see any way of changing it. I wonder if this is in anticipation of full flash support in the next Android release?
AFAIK it *should* work - it worked fine on the Hero and it works with the dolphin browser... I'm completely stumped

Why can't we watch youtube videos in the browser?!

If you go to a website with an embedded youtube video, the video won't show up unless you have flash lite turned on, which is awful quality.
Now afaik on other android phones, and indeed the iphone, if you go to a website with embedded youtube videos they show up in h.264 format, without the need for flash. Why has HTC disabled this? (or am I missing something)
Let me try this again in a while (on YouTube) but I have definitely watched flash vids within the browser many times (not on YouTube that I recall though). Poor quality at best, very grainy.
I haven't tried playing YouTube directly within the browser to date simply because I like it opening in the YouTube app better (I get the option to choose this).

you're missing something.
most phones get redirected to m.youtube.com
some sites are still using flash 9, which flashlite can play.
if a site is using flash 10, then you're ****ed because flash 10 is only in beta and only on 2.2
It's probably the Flash Lite plugin and the normal Youtube plugin (like on other Android phones) don't work well together and HTC disabled the normal plugin.
You probably have to find a way to remove Flash Lite completely.
Or maybe you wait until there's a Froyo ROM available within a few days/weeks or so and flash this, to get the full Flash 10.1, which should work much better than Flash Lite.

I'm assuming the normal plugin is where it redirects YouTube URLs to the YouTube app? Because that's the most frustrating part about this flaw!
Yes normal is the redirection to the Youtube app.
It sounds like even with flash 10.1 you can only get to watch the h.264 version if you load that flash video, then double tap on it to bring up the youtube player.
I would prefer it to load the h.264 video by default, because it's always going to perform better than flash, no matter how hard adobe tries.
YouTube embedded vids are an exception for me in so far as not playing embedded, many other site vids are doing so in decent quality (as relative as that is). Indeed, tricking the browser and YouTube to think it's a Desktop or iPhone accessing it is simple as well as showing the Desktop view, but then, you'll just see a black area where the vid would be with a message by shockwave that "this type of content is not supported". It won't play which is odd for me due to other site vids at higher quality that do play.

Doing such a tap provokes the browser to give me the option of either playing the vid using the YouTube app or using HTC Flash app.

Just use a different browser (Dolphin for example). The default browser (htc modified) does not allow it.
Suggestion:
Go to www.youtube.com/html5 and signup.
Make sure you're signed in on youtube.com on your mobile.
Try it now.

I use Xscope and Dolphin... they don't allow such embedded video through browser viewing on YouTube.

I could, but I don't really want to install another browser just to watch YouTube videos when I happen to come across one.
I think by loading skyfire is the only way you could view most videos in the way in which you say. But also the iphone cannot load videos from within its browser, only from its dedicated you tube player, and that has restrictions like nit being able to download to twitter or facebook etc. Some people are saying though that skyfire doesnt work fire them. Works a treat for me and plays 90 percent of videos that I stumble across.

You can on the iPhone, the videos show u exactly where thy are embedded, nd then you tap them and they play.
Its stupid because so many websites use h.264 video now, which android does support, yet we can't watch them.
Not sure I follow.
I go to YouTube (the proper site) on the HTC browser, I tap on a video, it loads and plays. What am I doing right?

It is that simple actually.
The thing is videos are played in a Flash player, instead of the Youtube app. Some people want to have it play in the Youtube app.

The issue here is samac92 wanting YouTube videos to play embedded in the browser like his iPhone did, without using flash, which they don't. I have no issue with the default actions.

Embedded in the browser? The iPhone can't do that.
You can change the Youtube site to see the HTML5 version. You can do that on the Desire, I guess you can also do it on the iPhone. But that's with the Youtube site itself.

What exactly changes if using HTML5 in the context of the video itself?
The stock vids the Flash app plays on YouTube are in FLV mostly, right? But when you download those vids, it offers the H.264 MP4 files. Does HTML5 allow the better H.264 MP4 vid file to be played in the YouTube app through streaming?

Web Browser, flash Player & HTML5

3 questions about the web browser and things related.
1: what is the best web browser? some people say Dolphin, yet some say Dolphin Beta? I'm looking for something that supports flash videos (like south park studios . com, and flash / java games) Someone point me in the right direction. Also when I do get a 3rd party web browser do I still need my stock? Will it serve any purpose?
2: If I download a web browser that supports flash, do I still need Adobe Flash Player or no? Also is there a particular version of Adobe flash Player that's superior? Someone said 10.6 was the best, I'm on 11.1, does it make a difference? Any benefits one has that the other doesn't?
And 3: What exactly is HTML5, It's like a Desktop viewing experience on a mobile device right?
-Thanks

1. I personally love Dolphin Beta. Great loading times and the best support for HTML5 as well as flash player. After you installed Dolphin you don't need stock anymore, but I keep it installed, just in case. The difference between standard and beta version is that the beta version has a customized engine that supports HTML5 and is much faster that the stock one.
2. From what I gathered, Dolphin uses the stock browser engine with a layer of customizations on top, so I think you still need to have Adobe Flash installed, though I'm not 100% sure. You should try uninstalling and checking if it still works in Dolphin.
3. HTML5 is a new standard for web pages, it allows you to have games and video players work directly without having to install any plugins (e.g. Java, Flash, etc.)

Apparantly. Almost every web page has a mobile version. All web players have an optimized mobile version based on HTML5. There's a proper reason why Adobe Flash support has been dropped after Android 4.0.x. Adobe Flash is (imho) just a big, heavy and ugly pile of code.
If I wanted a mobile version of the site I would use my phone not tablet.

Ok. Your tablet will also show an optimized page/web player, so it acutally doesn't matter. The page will know what kind of device is accessing it, what type of tools it needs to get shown properly and eventually show as a device specific page. Since 4.2 I never used Adobe Flash again and haven't had any proplems displaying pages no matter which user agent I choose. Just explain me in which cases you'd need Adobe Flash. I'm seriously asking, because, well, I don't know. My post was never meant to offend anyone and so I'm not quite sure how to take your posts.
I usually use project free tv and it still needs adobe flash lol but you are right there are a lot of sites that will open with your video player idk any good ones yet though

Photon, Puffin, and Skyfire process flash video on the server-side then stream to the client, so theoretically they should/can work in 4.4 independent of the flash plugin used by the other browsers.

Correct. You will also get compressed audio & video. No true HD from any of those server-side rendering browsers, which totally sucks. Oh well... I guess it is time that the rest catch up with Netflix, who at least gives you the option of using HTML5.
On my N5, I tried watching a Flash video with Puffin and Photon but its way too choppy for my comfort. How is it on your N7's. Try playing the video on this page in desktop mode with pPuffin/Photon. I plays smoothly in HD on my 4.3 N7 with flash plugin.

That's not strictly true. The iPlayer site now uses the BBC's Media Player for video. But if I go to the BBC News website on my 2012 Nexus 7 which doesn't have flash installed, and I try to play any video there, I get a message saying "Cannot play media. You do not have the correct version of the flash player." It may be that one day they'll actually have the correct version of HTML 5 but right now they're still using flash.

You may THINK it plays HD content "smooth" but take a look at your DL rate. You will average less than 2mbps (more likely 300kbps to 700kbps). I can garuntee you that you are not rendering HD content on your device at that rate. HD content will consume 2 to 5 GIGABYTES for an hour of video at 720p.

With the flash apk I was able to get firefox to load.
I was testing something out.
I went to show someone the youtube video for I believe in a thing called love. all it showed was covers and live crap.
I check on my pc, first hit is the legit music video.
Odd, I check again in youtube app, nothing.
I check in chrome, nothing. but if I google search, it comes up. if i go to that link, it says not available in my area.
I put in flash, firefox, and video loaded fine.
So there may be some valid reasons to do this madness.

First, I know the difference between Mb and MB. According to my N7's speedtest app my DL speed is 45Mbps (Comcast). While the video is playing, the "network speed" app constantly reports readings with lows of 200 KBps and up to 1.5 MBps (sometimes even higher on other trials). The app provides a graph and i see it averaging about 400 KBps to 700 KBps. 400 KBps = 3.125 Mbps. I'm using Boat Browser
Also I play PC games at a minimum of 60 fps. I can easily tell if there are frame drop spikes / choppiness. I know the video is HD because it is also posted on Youtube at 720p. The quality is the same on my 25" monitor.

Watching movies and ads?

Is there any way to remove the ads and pop ups in google chrome? I've downloaded ablockerplus but that doesn't remove the ads i get on google chrome. Also how can i watch movies on this tablet? I've downloaded a flash player app however it has little effect as i still get warned that i do not have the "Adobe flash plug in" when trying to view movies on putlocker.
Could watch anything you want with kodi as an app and addons from tvaddons.ag
Chrome browser doesn't support flash. For flash videos I'd recommend dolphin browser.
Flash is no longer supported in android.
I use vget to get online streams from video sites and then play in mxplayer.
Works just fine on putlocker.
You can still use flash and adblock plus.
Kitkat: Install dolphin browser + dolphin jetpack + modded flash player. (Can be found within dolphin browser, under lab. Google if you cannot find it.)
Lollipop: dolphin may bot work, but firefox does. Just install firefox and modded flash player.
-Adblock plus works with Chrome, but Data Saver (within Chrome settings) must be disabled.
-Flash player does not work with Chrome.
-Its better to install Adblock plus as an extension within firefox, than to install the actual adblock plus apk. This way it won't mess if your system.
