Why do HTC do it? - HTC One X

So as many of you have heard HTC bring out some new devices tomorrow. I'm personally annoyed at this, many people alike have shelled out for the amazing HoX and now a new batch is coming and is going to replace them. What's wrong with the one x and why do they need new phones?

the devices r being announced for the USA, since they still didn't officially release a tegra3 one X in there
so they r re releasing the one X with LTE support and a 5inch phablet, some tablets and windows phones
nothing to worry about, the one x is not being replaced, just refreshed
kinda like the sensation XE and XL release

Oh dear, how do you now, they will present smthng replacing over beast? For sure, they'll show us a phablet, a win phone and, PROBABLY, one x+. And as it was said many times, it looks like it will be hox with v3 cpu. And it is not bad, but good, because all the software will be pushed there, will be ported to our phone.
Now look at Sammy two years ago. There are 3 galaxy s only in Germany (i9001 9000 9003), which came in one damn year. Was it bad for original galaxy s users? Hell no.
I the only negative aspect is, that you'll have to confirm, that u don't have the "latest and the greatest". But if you really up to that, than grab an iphone or do something with your ego.

The phablet that pictures were leaked said it would be GSM. You probably know better than me. If new flagship devices emerge for Europe then ill be seriously annoyed. Hopefully the one x stays top :good:

I don't think HTC is replacying One X, if you look, the one+ (I think I'm correct) is a five inch phone, so is another type of phone.
Like the Samsung Note didn't replace de Galaxy2
And the other ones are Windows Phones.
Sorry for the bad english guys!

u have an sgs3 and a Note 2, they don't kill each other, u pick the size u like, a phablet is up to people tolerance because the size is above acceptable limits for a phone
u also had a sensation XE vs sensation XL, they also didn't replace each other
also if u want tegra gaming u have to go with the one X and not the phablet, its simple really
just a galaxy note competitor, they released the s4pro in a 5incher so not to upset one X users or replace it
pretty clean job if u ask me
much better than the LG optimus G killing the LG optimus 4x
despite all our wishes they still have to compete with the android aggressive spec race, but in my eyes they r still doing a cleaner line up than everyone else
their tegra3 one X is actually the most well mantained flagship they ever released, it will not be replaced before next year MWC event

Great points there, probably right. We will soon find out!

Why on earth would anyone be bothered if there is an upgraded HOX type phone. How does that effect a current HOX user?

It's because every company needs to make money to keep the company alive, it's using your common sense.
Today it's hox, tomorrow it's something else...., technology goes very fast. You buy it today and tomorrow it's old, same as with cars.
Soon as you bought and walk out the shop it's worth a lot less, it's business.

So tomorrow htc would release a new android phone or windows phone ?

Omg...why people cryning about new phones??? This is new to me. WELCOME ALL NEW PHONES...

The OP has a point. Whenever htc release a new phone they also issue an OTA to the previous models to cripple the performance by 50%
Trust me, whenever it's announced suddenly your phone feels old and obsolete so this can be the only explanation

B. It's better than last year when I bought an incredible s only for it to be completely made obsolete by the sensation in 2 months.
C. There probably won't be any One X killers out there tomorrow. The one x+ is simply an upgrade that US users should look forward to. Windows phones may be unveiled, but......... They're windows phones (aka Suckage majoris)

The new hox + is the same phone, but using the latest tegra 3 chipset, which is clocked a bit faster. It uses exactly the same drivers and runs the same games, just a tiny bit quicker. I don't even think HTC are upping the ram or the battery (which imo is stupid).
It is a tiny update of the CPU only. No need to update just yet

If its the same why bother releasing in it at all ?

This is good news for us. More exposure of the Tegra 3 chipset in the US will mean more devs working on roms and perhaps even a better chance of achieving s-off. The stock rom should also be relatively easy to port.

[Q] Should I buy a One X or wait for One XXL?

I am planning to get a HTC One X, and recently read a rumor of HTC One XXL. I dont want to wait until next year, and if the screen size is bigger than HTC One X then XXL would be useless for me. I need a good advice whether to get One X or wait for HTC One XXL??

leaked information is never reliable
but is is the only information we have about the XXL
1.6 quadcore (now 1.5)
2GB RAM (now 1GB)
1.8 MP Front Facing Camera (now 1.3MP)
same screen
same screen size
same camera sensor
but i hasn't been annouced yet so you don't know when it is released
my advice, just buy the one x
there will be always better phones released right after you buy it
if you want to wait for the best you can wait until you die
hmmm yeah....i think its a good idea to get a HTC one X as the XXL has a little advancement of RAM and 1.6GHz rather than 1.5GHz. The one on the HTC one X would be enough for me, but i am worried about the battery life, also i heard that there gonna be a huge update for HTC one x which improves lof of stability and bugs, also battery life. Is that true???
Am also worried about the defects, if i get a faulty one, are there lot of faulty ones out there or wat?
it's not JUST 1.6 Ghz It's The QUAD-Core Snapdragon S4 28nm With Adreno 320 GPU and clocked at 1.6 or 1.7 and if the rumors are right it Would be A BEAST! :silly::laugh:
Hmz this is new for me. Would be cool if it would be a real device.

I think this will come out around October/November time, HOX refresh, around iPhone 5 time and GNote 2 time.
that would be stupid but given that sadly so sadly s3 is selling more, HTC will be forced to do this move
as for me the choice is simple, i follow tegra
i dont see happy reports from the s4 owners, in fact they say it evens out in terms of battery life since screen off times is not as good so imagine a quad with that...and the adreno 3x demos are nothing much

They have to do something as the iP5 will be a big seller regardless of what anyone says and the GNote 2 will be Samsung's high end phone. So HTC will need some new high end device to compete as the HOX won't match either in terms of sales around that period leading up to the holiday period.

Purported HTC One XXL specs: quad-core Snapdragon and LTE (Update: Fake)
UPDATE: Many have cried foul over the alleged screenshots, with the texture on the settings menu not matching what’s found on current Sense 4.0 devices, and the previously embedded video has been made private. On top of that, would HTC really release a new flagship device so soon and risk customer loyalty? Apologies, friends, but the information is more likely than not fake.

Android phones have always out-spec'd iPhone's with bigger displays, faster processors, more features, and better customization. The iP5 is supposed to have a 4.1" display and an A6 processor. The current One X and SGS3 are competitive. People don't buy Android because the iPhone has better specs, they buy it because it's an iPhone. The Note isn't an iPhone competitor. At 5MM sales vs. 20MM sales of the SGS2 it's not even a player. Not everyone wants to hold a tablet to their ear.
Im sure I read somewhere that HTC are only going to do hardware refreshes every year. Instead of the 2-3 a year they do now

Why do you guys always have to look for the negative in absolutely everything? The "One X+" name was made up by the media and fueled by rumors to get people to click on links. It apparently worked.
There are three new devices floating around out there - 2 phones and a tablet.
Here's all the detail on the phones:
T-Mobile U.S. is getting an HTC device with an internal code of "era 42" in September. That's all the detail that's been released. Rumors have it to be a version of a quad-core One X. Which version, no one knows. Here's what Android Authority said and it's the only thing that's true.
"We know that we’re throwing a bunch of hearsays and rumors, but this is all we have to play with for now. "
There's an "Evita" (XL) phone that's shown up in benchmarks with a 1.7GHz Teg3 chip and Nvidia Icera LTE radio that has an AT&T signature on its ROM. It's shown up twice and the model number is PM63100. First in July, with 4.0.4 and a couple of days ago with 4.1.1. So obviously it's progressing toward being released.
Here's how I take this. It's great that T-Mobile's getting a version of the One X. It's good for both HTC and T-Mobile. If you've seen their earnings HTC needs to sell more phones and adding devices and carriers is a good thing. AT&T getting a better XL is also a good thing. The SGS3 with the S4 chip is eating the current XL's lunch because of its 16GB fixed storage, crappy radio, and awful multitasking because Adreno reserves so much RAM for itself. HTC & AT&T launching an "improved" Teg3 XL with better specs than the U.S. SGS3 is fantastic for both of them.
As for JB, name one device from either Samsung or HTC that launched on a carrier with better specs than a global phone sold direct. I take JB showing up in testing for the new AT&T phone as a sign that development’s underway and that we'll receive it in the same time frame any new U.S. One X is launched which currently looks like September. Our One X launched in March. If there is a global One X+ that launches in October that's eight months later. If an improved One X helps HTC better compete with the SGS3 than I'm all for it. It also doesn't mean that the current One X is being abandoned.

they defo made a mistake selling a top of the line phone with only 16gb non expandable storage.
FWIW the aussie XL has 32Gb not 16gb so much more of a non-issue.
I don't see how this phone's a 'problem', I suspect its just an optimised/overclocked version of our current international one Xs, now Tegra 3 yields are maturing they are just cherrypicking the best chips and slapping a faux kernel onto it ROFL

Edit: the processor is also 28nm so it us more efficient and can reach higher clockspeed, no point considering the Wayne chipset(tegra 4?) will bring a 24 core gpu and 28nm quad core a15 processor which will be around

I predict this will come out loaded with JB and we will still be waiting for a official JB for One X, I also predict I will have a few holes in my walls to patch up.

Wow! This is a product refresh. It's quite common folks. Do you really expect HTC to leave the OneX unchanged for 12-18 months in an industry where hardware and software changes so rapidly. That would be commercial suicide. It's the same reason you see devices like the Sensation XE - to prolong the product lifecycle.

Well Samsung and Apple do so and they are leading the game. If HTC just focuses on making a phone that WORKS w/out having to exchange at least one time they'll probably sell more for a single model over a longer time.
why is this is bad? i really don't understand
if anything its good news
it means HTC is not letting go of Tegra, software support will continue in parallel for the two devices since they are basically the same
This is just a refresh it will contain the latest software, improved battery and tiny speed boost, a sort of incentive for new buyers
We have tested these clocks with custom kernel and its no big deal, the GPU unlock and bandwidth improvements makes more differnce than the clocks between 1400 and 1600, you already have most of this with custom kernels
Did you prefer to hear your HOX outdated by a Snapdragon 4x refresh?
Typical HTC. Even though they promised to release one flagship phone a year, they keep doing the same shait. Release a half assed flagship (in particular with insufficient battery) and then release a fixed version few months later. How do you want us to trust them? No wonder their revenues take the plunge. This together with S-Off stupid policy, they well deserve the revenues set back.
yes the drama, its the end of days
they deserve to burn in hell for not giving you SOFF and For releasing a fractional bump to the One X
waw you people amaze me
Believe me if these guys get out of business, we will loose a lot, you just insist on under appreciating them
Can you tell me what replacement do we have in the android space? no one! i will refuse to carry toys to my meetings, social gatherings and end up with an iDevice in my pocket
No one gets near HTC's design and class
they have their own market share, if you don't like it, beat it

yes just an incentive for buyers midway between this and the next flagship, both the XE and Classic Sensation had the exact same firmware minus beats
they end up with the same firmware code except the last digits
example
Sensation latest ICS: 3.33.401.6
Sensation XE latest ICS: 3.33.401.106
and to be honest XE was a good move for them, it did resell the Sensation
This how the mobile industry is moving under pressure from volume mass sale like Samsung, how many variants and versions does Sammy have? its not like they behave like Apple, check how many tabs they have!
and how many Asus transformers do we have now? all based on Tegra 3
Lets run behind HTC with pitch forks and turn a blind eye on everyone else
There is no escape this industry will soon become like the automative industry, tons of brands, variants, models and sub models with endless refreshes
The flagship module is fading away, now its just stands for the "Current"
What matter is the lineup to stay "focused" but HTC never pursued a single device strategy

Their current woes are pretty much due to their own doing. I'm not referring to S-ff or BL but their horrendous QC and CS since the sensation line that a lot of people have the misfortune to deal w. On top of that they rushed a half asses phone w so many bugs and issues. I'm not even citing XDA only. If you google HTC One X whirlpool.com.au and look for the HOX's section you'll see how many people complained about the HOX. So basically, HTC is slow w software developments, bad w customer support, out of control w quality management. It's them who are pushing people away not the other way around.
And to answer your question, other alternatives can be: Motorola (owned by Google now), Sony (still have billions of cash to spend), ZTE and Huawei (subsidized by the Chinese government), LG (their Optimus 4x HD using the same processor as the HOX but it's miles faster and more responsive).
I know HTC is not going to die by the end of this year, but it's looking very promising, given the number of people I've seen swear off HTC since the launch of the HOX.

Not sure if you should trade in.
The tegra 3 is really starting to get out-dated IMO. In the end it is your decision. So yeah.
Personally i wouldn't do it.
Not sure if it's a "helping" reply but why don't you consider Nexus4 if you want stock Android experience? You'll get the fastest updates and none of the inevitable bugs from porting stock Android to a device that wasn't supposed to have it. Also Google would not abandon it sometime in the future like CM are doing with Exynos devices (if it's true).

Aren't cm leaving exynos devices due to no source being released?
I may be way off here.
You should use both phones then make a decision. I totally get that some prefer aosp on certain hardware.

Not sure if it's a "helping" reply but why don't you consider Nexus4 if you want stock Android experience? Word. My htc one x screen broke and they told me repair costs 283 euros. Told them to shove it up their ass. 16 euros more and i have a nexus 4. So you should really go for a Nexus 4 if you like CM.
The only problem i have here is the fact that in austria we have no google play store. But hopefully this person i met from germany is trust worthy enough and will send me a nexus 4 once it's out.
Thank u very much guys...i'll skip of buying one x and wait for nexus 4...but here in india we cant buy them through playstore... Lg is going to sell almost double of price here thats what i am fearing about to buy

Personally, I think the One X is better than the Nexus 4. Early benchmarks show that the Nexus has a severely underclocked GPU, and easily overheats, getting throttled even more. The One X also has a better screen IMO.

I wanted to move to nexus 4, rumours say it will be priced at 34-35k here in India, so my plans for upgrade are cancelled atm

34-35 K? I doubt it You should be able to import it at a lesser price than that.

Yeah... You said it.. early benchmarks.
We've seen how the HoX did before and after certain benchmarks. So there's no reason not to believe that it won't be the same in nexus 4's case.
Then you have multiple pros for the Nexus 4:
Bigger battery (2100 mAh) is nothing remarkable. However, 28nm is more power efficient which would mean we should definitely be experiencing a better battery life in the Nexus 4 than on the One X. Even if stand by times won't be as good, the battery life with screen on is going to be better. (see galaxy s3).
For people that want their phone for regular day to day usage, s4 chip is supposed to be better and faster. (EVEN in gaming it's going to stump the Tegra3)
Google getting hands on quad core - that must actually mean that they will actually do their best to optimize their phone to run quad-core. And since it is google we are talking about i can imagine them doing a great job.
First to get updates (reason enough to go for the Nexus 4 over the one x)
IPS screen (supposed to be among the best)
Really. What more can i say. There's one thing i don't doubt, and that's the fact that the tegra 4 is going to be better battery wise and faster. However, i don't feel like waiting for a tegra 4 device and to top it off, you actually need a manufacturer that makes the best out of it. For people who are not into gaming, they probably won't notice much of a difference. At the pace that google is improving their OS i just can't make up for excuses to stay with other manufacturers.

Well, technically the S4 pro does stump the Tegra 3 in gaming, but Tegra 3 has more optimized games in Play Store so therefore Tegra wins. The SLCD2 is also better than the IPS in some reviews, and the underclocked GPU is also very apparent is some benchmarks.

One major flaw though, only 8GB or 16GB internal memory and no expansion slot.

Upgrade due but one x still going strong

So my 18th month contract is up and if I want I can get an upgrade,a couple a month's ago it would have been sorted and I would have the HTC one lined up to replace my one x ,but since 4.2 I'm loving this phone again and still doing everything I want .Been tempted for a bigger phone and with the note 3 out soon I have to say that I'm tempted to try it but I'm not really sure I want to leave HTC,had the touch pro2,then desire HD then the one x and still love HTC devices .I'm thinking of waiting until Feb 2014 for the next htc flagship,or if they release are larger version of the HTC one ,decision's,decision's any advice ?

Due your question is actually part of HTC's problem
Many HTC fans actually keep their devices far longer than apple or even Samsung flagships
iPhone users will jump to the next the moment its announced, meanwhile I kept my Desire HD for 2 and a half year
Eitherway I guess since we are almost end year you can certainly wait for the HTC One 2014, they actually kept their flagship going a full year this time without a refresh (unlike all before), so I'm sure in MWC 2014 will be ready for day one launch, trouble free, most likely It will carry an updated s800 or even the next or Tegra 5 (Nivida would beg them to take it again)
The Max is something else, its a phablet, check the leaked photos its extra huge
Either way make sure to get HTC since you like it already, they really need their fans in 2014 or bust
I would have stayed with my HTC Desire but my mother needed a decent phone and I was due for an upgrade, went with an LG Optimus LTE (Nitro HD) and was unhappy with it as I had to send it in twice for repairs and ended up switching for an HTC One X and I'm glad I did, I'll probably hang onto it for a couple more years as most of the new phones are simply getting TOO BIG and they're all the same now too.
And yes it's true about HTC and also Motorola users that stick to their devices for longer, my sister's best friend has gone through 3 Samsung Galaxies each time they released the new version... heh

thanks Hamdir, having followed you in the DHD, then all the build up for the ONE X you did and the thread ( even though it looked nothing the the leaked photos)i think you could be right if there are no more flagship devices then the 2014 device coud be market ready from the off
