[Q] Reminders and Notes - Why - HTC One X

Probably (hopefully) a really stupid question with a simple answer, but I have one annoyance left with my HTC One X. I use the calendar function a lot and so whenever a reminder pops up, which I dismiss, it then open up a separate screen asking me if I want to create a note. My issues with this is:
1) I cannot understand why, when I've been reminded of a meeting or task to perform, I would want to create a note on it? Why does this feature exist.
2) How can I disable this?
I've been putting up with this since Feb, but no more, so hopefully some bright spark on here can enlighten me :fingers-crossed:
Thanks
JB

I have a similar problem, have you experienced the Reminder coming up, and now matter how much you "Dismiss" it, it'll just pop straight back up, you experienced that?

Very annoying mate, the only way to dismiss it, is either go onto the computer at work, and dismiss it their on Outlook, or to unlock the phone, dismiss it about 50 times and close the notification etc, then it decides whether to go or not !

Device sound when put down/picked up

Hey all.
Found no info on this here, and can't recall hearing about this anywhere else.
I'm currently on PACman 4.3, and been on SlimBean 4.3 for a few days before that. Whenever I put down or pick up my N7100 it makes a sound, like a notification - I can't find it anywhere in settings. Anyone experience this and know what it is and how to disable?
Just a quirk, but it can get annoying during late hours.
Cheers.
If I find the settings for that I'll tell ya. But before I tell you, I'm gonna set "Carmina Burana O Fortuna" as pickup sound and make the most dramatic face impressions everytime I pick my phone up!
Epicness = over 9000!!!
Me likes to flame and troll ... ~°^°~
Then I take it you aren't afflicted with the same illness?
I've been monitoring my device closely, and sometimes (not always) I can reproduce this sound by putting it down and picking it up. Other times, while I'm holding it up performing some activity it'll do it again - repeatedly or turn glitchy because whatever it is trying to notify me of happened in close succession.
Anyone know what this is?
I'll try the Google+ community of the devs too, and will post feedback here if I get an answer.
Do you have GMD Gesture controls or similar app like CM SPen helper installed and attach/detach sounds activated?
Me likes to flame and troll ... ~°^°~
I tested another rom, then it went away. Back on Slimbean now, and the sound is present again. No GMS here, or Spen helpers.
Will attempt to get in touch with the dev again and post results here.

[Q] Status Bar

At first I thought I was the only one suffering from this annoyance, but then I saw this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgvTFu6UKJI
See, the problem is that whenever I send or receive a message, this icon pops up. At first I thought I was delusional, but then it repeatedly became clear that this was truly a bug. I managed to get a screenshot of it (which was really difficult considering that it only pops up for about half a second). I want to know if I anyone else has had this issue, and whether or not someone found a workaround from it popping up. Anyone at all?
Are you using Hangouts?
Nope! Stock everything, and unrooted. Using the HTC messaging app

Probably Carrier IQ for some reason tracking your location. My LG G2 does the same thing.

This bothered me as well, but I have since gotten rid of it. Granted that you're rooted, you can download an Xposed module called NotifyClean. It listens for "notifications" in the status bar, and you have the option to disable them. Download/install/activate the module, turn on the listening feature, and send a message. When you go back into NotifyClean, you'll see "Data Usage". Select that, then select "Data usage is running". It should highlight the selection in red, and ultimately get rid of the little annoying icon that shows up for a split second.
It seems that I'm not the only one having an issue. Well hopefully there's a better work around for this because I don't plan rooting my phone for a long time! Flashing roms and tweaks could be addicting haha! Hopefully someone finds a better fix to hide this annoying notification!

Yeah, take it from someone that flashed a ROM today and every mod/tweak I could find... it gets addicting. I spent 8 hours at my computer today going over various mods and personalizing my phone. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything to help with your issue that doesn't involve root. If you know what is causing the notification then you may be able to go into settings>apps>all and disable the offender?

I managed to get a screenshot, and I checked what app was causing it but it was a system app called "Data Usage". Anyone know how to turn off data usage notifications? Turning off data usage alert doesn't help
This is normal behavior. While it shouldn't be popping up, its normal as in that it is what is done when a SMS/MMS is sent while on WiFi.
You can locate the app through Application Manager and tap it to Disable Notifications. This doesnt require root or anything.
Taking shots in the dark here, but there is a data usage section under wireless & networks in settings. In that menu there is a toggle for 'alert me about data usage'. You can then drag a slider up and down to set the cap for when your phone warns you about data usage. Maybe yours is dragged to the very bottom so it alerts you about any data usage?
Unlikely because it would show up during everything, but worth asking. Maybe just disabling the notification toggle would work. Also, does your carrier ship with specific software to monitor data usage? If so then check all of those apps settings to see if anything has any effect.
It doesn't matter whether or not the wifi is on, it still annoyingly pops up. I meant that you really can't disable notifications as it is a system app

I read its some type of traffic usage. Someone here posted a picture of it here. Also I have an option on the ROM I'm running to hide that notification. O don't think its carrier IQ but then again.

Anyone know how to get the notification LED to do anything useful?

I'd like for it to flash continuously when I have a missed message, call, VM, Whatsapp, anything-I-want.
Just like you can do with the *insert any other phone ever made here*.
It will flash for the moment I get a call or text but never any other time.
I have it turned on to do so in Settings. There's a secondary option to allow it for 3rd party apps or something like that, I get nothing for Whatsapp either.
I see plenty of threads on this but people only suggest 3rd party apps and rooting their phones.

Its the only way. Lightflow pro will let you put whatever color you want for whatever notification.

That's ridiculous. I don't see how manufacturers keep overlooking something so simple as a notification LED. It is not the first phone I have had this issue with. It is really helpful to look at my phone when the screen is off and know if I missed a call, email or text depending on the color. Spend so much time and money into doing other useless tasks, but simple ones often get overlooked. I'm not looking to root the phone just for an LED.
It does flash, just very infrequently. I do find the LED pretty much useless. My Note 2's indicator was very large and easy to see from a distance and from weird angles if the phone is sitting somewhere. Imo this one is hard to notice unless you're holding the phone and looking directly at it.

I did get it to flash with handcent with a custom color and blink rate. Still cant get it to work with gmail, but havent tried lightflow yet. Agreed though, you can barely see it unless you are looking head on. Oh well...

[Q] How do I get rid of the "current call" pop-up

When I'm on a call on my G3 there's an annoying popup that hovers in the upper-left corner that shows the call duration. The issue is that I already know I'm on a god damned call, and that pop-up renders my phone fairly useless. I cannot send a text for example since it covers most of the Recipient field. And I have some apps that have a menu in that area and they are completely useless. Any ideas? I do a lot of conference calls and it's very frustrating, enough that Ill probably ditch the phone if I cannot fix it. Is this a LG UI thing?

Yes it needs root. I'm a happy root user, I don't see how root could generate instability, maybe things you could do with root access could do not the root itself
Thanks for the info. I guess philosophically I should not have to root a brand new $600 phone because some moron at LG thought this was a useful feature. As soon as the next Nexus is out, I'm bailing.

Well, i don't know where you live, here if you root your device you won't loose warranty(only LG has this policy though)

I don't know if you know about this already, but I do know on the D851 T-Mobile version, when that small pop up is on the screen (such as after you press the Home button while on a call), you can press and drag it to wherever you want on the screen, out of the way of its current placement.
I'm not sure if you can do this on other variants or not, but it's worth a try.
This is my only complaint with my G3. Wish someone had a fix for lollipop. Can't stand that little pop up that won't go away.

Notification sound with no apparent notification item

I love my new Pixel 2 XL but despite my best efforts to identify what app or system service was sending repeated (and annoying) default notification sounds but not showing any other message or indication, I finally hit on a solution that seems to work.
SET THE DEFAULT NOTIFICATION SOUND TO "NONE"
settings>sound>advanced>default notification sound
Then set the notification sounds to whatever you want for each app you actually care to hear from.

I have noticed this as well.
<notification sound> no new text or email...
For me, it's just easier to ignore the errant tone once in a while than to set notifications for individual apps (cause I'm totally lazy like that).
But THAT is the beauty of Android... to each their own and there are always multiple ways to skin that cat
Use a notification log
I had this same issue. Turned out to be an app I had disabled pop ups for.
I have a (potentially) better solution. Add a notification log widget to find the culprit:
1. Long press on home screen and go to widgets.
2. Drag the settings widget to the home screen.
3. In the list of options, choose Notifications
Now you can see a log of your notifications. Next time you get the sound but no pop up, go into the log and find the offender at the top of the list.
For me it was a game I didn't need so I deleted it, but you can remedy the problem as you see fit.

Glad you found it! Sorry I just saw this. I forget where I learned about this, but it wasn't easy to find. I'm glad I could pass it on to someone else, I'm sure it could be plenty useful.
I'm having the same issue but it's not even showing in the notification log. Makes me want to throw it out the window to be honest. There's time where it will go off every 30 seconds. Off to reset I guess and see if that works.
same thing here pixel 2 oreo 8.1 notification sound...no thing new in the "hot list" or email or message
very weird, and randomly at night too which is the suck
2019 and no change
Hello, same issue still persists in 2019. Every few weeks i must dump the default sound as it sets it self up again.
Still no idea why it does it, just a temp bandaid to curb the annoyance. I notice a slightly higher battery drain too, tells me something is running

Sounds like a re-install is in order...if you have an unlocked bootloader, when was the last time you've done an update via Full Factory image? I'd imagine all that might be sorted out by reinstall/updating; with the "-w" removed of course...
I hope you consider it, and I hope this helps...
