Review: DBA Cases Thin Grip - Galaxy S III Accessories

This review is quick and dirty. I was lucky to receive a case from DBA Cases. I didn't think I'd like the case, but I was wrong. There is no bulk and the Thin Grip resolves the slippery phone issue. This case is now my daily. Keep an eye out for a chance to win a DBA Cases Just Like Glass Screen Protector! It's my next XDA exclusive giveaway.

The case is made with the same material found in bullet resistant glass and materials in a F22 Fighter Jet cockpit. I questioned this, but with a little bit of flexing, it was there. The cuts and finish are next to flawless. One of the best I've seen so far. The case does lock in place, so you don't have to worry about it falling offer like other cases.
There is enough room for the edges to keep the screen off the surface you put it down on. You can see that the button cut outs are very generous and easy to use. I would have prefer the logo be on the inside for a cleaner look, but that's just my preference. The soft finish seems to hold up. Hopefully it doesn't peel like other cases.
Using "Olympics" on your order will give you 20% off!
This is one case that I am adding to my personal collection. I'm really like how thin the case is. It's not as flimsy as the Feather cases. I don't see it cracking like they do.
The case is $21.99 at DBA Cases. It is available in Black, Blue Slate, Maroon, Silver and Snow.
DBA Cases also offers an impressive screen protector. Just Like Glass

How, if at all, does the case limit our choice of screen protectors?

I have a Curved Crystal on it now. Should be fine. The edges cover up right around the bezel. It may push up some wet application types depending on how close they are.
The Curved Crystal is a bit flimsy and covers up to the edge. So I feel most will fit fine.

It's still good, however one of our programmers broke the site and it's being restored from a back-up right now.
In order to use the code you do have to be registered in the system - buying as a guest won't work.

Thanks for reviewing our case.
The paint should never peel. We used three layers on it and it covers the entire case - even the inside. I've tried to mark it with my fingernail and it doesn't even mark easily. If it does you can rub it out. We had them done at a special paint factory so get the best coating, they coat the entire case at once - so there are no ridges or inconsistencies.
Most screen protectors should work. We could not have cut the case any further from the glass without having it fall out. It does grab the bezel so there is no way it will fall off accidentally. In fact it takes a bit of effort to get it off (I recommend the bottom first).
It was a very expensive case to make but it's meant to cover a very expensive phone so we didn't take any shortcuts.
If you're interested in our Just Like Glass screen protector we just released a demonstration video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3oZvd1W5xw&feature=youtu.be

I really like the look of this case, when laying flat on the table, will the camera hit the table ?

Sshguru,
Will this work with the oem wireless charging back cover?

Perfect thickness to keep the camera off the table. Just enough room to keep the screen lifted as well.
Key cut outs are way more than generous.
I love it!
Post a picture when you get it!

Thin Grip v. Ultra?
I'm inclining to the Ultra for greater protection. My wife is undecided between the Ultra and the Thin Grip. In addition to seeing photos with the blue S3, it would be helpful to (1) see side-by-side photos and (2) compare physical specifications.
Relatedly, if we order, when should we expect delivery (to Greater Boston)?

I had 140 photo's taken just for the white version. I considered doing the blue but then Samsung released another three or four colors. I think the white is the best to show off the true color of the case. There is no way I can put up over 1000 pictures on the site.
We are developing a color chooser so people can see what a combination of TPU color and PC color will look like.
If you need greater protection get the Ultra. It's very light and very nice to hold on to. It also gives you the ability to order for half the price other colors to change the look of the case.
The Thin Grip is for people who don't like cases - after a few days you won't notice you have a case on. It has protection but it's minimal. I actually prefer this type of case myself. However the Ultra turned out so well I carry both of them with me.
The Thin Grip is .4 OZ while the Ultra is about 1 OZ. So we're talking very light.
The Ultra is just a little thicker than the slim grip.
If you pick a color I can take a picture on my fake blue S3. I don't know how close it is to the real color but it's the dummy model used at Verizon. I have only one blue but I do have three whites.
All of the other pictures are on the site. And today Amazon put nearly everything in stock.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

I believe we have most countries on the site. We have a flat shipping rate for International deliveries of $11.50.
If it doesn't work email [email protected] and we'll add the country.
Also we have a brand new site coming this week which will make it much easier to order internationally hopefully with prices directly from the USPS.

Interestingly when we first built the site we didn't anticipate international orders.
However since then we've shipped to the UK, Australia, Israel, Canada and a bunch of others I can't remember because it's 6AM here.
The new site will be far more robust when it comes to shipping. However everything will still ship from our fulfillment center. They are very good at getting orders out the door as fast as possible.
Most of our stuff hit Amazon today - I don't know what they charge for international of if it's even set up. I'll look into it.

I've never met anyone who liked the dust flaps on cases. The first thing I do when I get one is rip them off. My wife does the same, my neighbors the same. I know some companies put them there but honestly most people hate them.
As you can see I'm completely into customer service but I'll say one thing - you won't see any dust flaps on my cases ever!

Video Review: Diztronic (TPU-cases) Matte Black Case for Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys,
I used to post video reviews on the Nexus S and Galaxy S II forums but now that I've gotten my Galaxy Nexus I will start covering cases and accessories for the device. Today I've got the Diztronic TPU Matte Black Case, which is a simple case that hugs your device and offers a decent level of protection. I definitely like the look and feel, and apart from some minor annoyances, it's a definite winner.
Full review below:
Thanks for the review. A couple of questions...first, is the texture of the matte finish similar to that of a silicone case? I'm not a fan of silicone cases as they do not slide in and out of pockets well and also gather lint easily. Second, about how thick do you think the case is? I am wondering if it the phone will ever fit into a dock with the case on which has me confused as to why they would include the cutout for the 3 contact charging pins...Thanks again!

Hi,
The matte texture is similar but not as 'heavy' as the one on silicone cases, which tend to be sticky and tacky. This case slides in and out of the pocket very easily and as I mentioned, shows no fingerprints or dust collection.
The case is probably about 3 mm thick, perhaps a little less.
I'm sure the case won't fit in a dock, however there may be an alternate usage for the pins, we can only hope so!
nice review, how long did delivery take?

3 days and I am using the included screen protector you get within the package, will get the job done as it is pretty decent but there are better options.
Which screen protectors do you recommend though? I've tried a few here in the uk and they are all ****
I recommend any SGP screenshield. They've got 2 models currently. Sgpstore.com

Just another chime in... I've got this case and it works great on the GSM GN. I like the matte finish.
Like others I'm on the lookout for a nicer screen protector. The included one is just a tad small. Would prefer one that is large enough to slide under the edges of the case.

Do you think it would be possible to cut out a slot ourselves for the volume rocker?
Does the texture of the case make the phone slippery in your hand? I have a TPU case for my Galaxy Tab 10.1 that appears to be made of the same sort of material and it always would slip through my hands because it was a very hard texture. I ended up getting a high gloss tpu case for that which was a bit more grippy. How would you compare this to a high gloss? Do you think it offers a good amount of grip like high gloss or no?
Probably I'm going to buy this TPU skin, is seems to be actually the best (reading opinions in xda and amazon.com).
But i have a question about the screen protector that comes with te case: do it cover all the screen (or is it like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdRSRROffO4 ) ??
Thanks
edit: and, the TPU case is not glossy, true?

Screen protector that comes with it is smaller than the phone screen. Lets just say that it leaves 1.5 mm all around uncovered. That's why I have ordered another set of separate screen protectors now. But it gets the job done but I am not too happy with it.
Case is and isn't glossy. Sides and back is matte soft touch coating. However the front border of the case is shiny flexible rubber that looks pretty cool and gives it a high end look.
hope this helps.

Our eBay user id is: post3rs. I am using our case on the GSM version and it fits perfectly. I find the volume buttons to be extremely easy to press, although 1 customer told me they don't agree. In all honesty it might be one of the easiest volume buttons I've pushed on a TPU case.

Wow, thanks for the official support (I've read on amazon the review of the user that say the volume controls are not easy to press, and your answer to him)
Yes, I bougth the case from you, post3rs, it has shipped to italy today (I'm a.delu.59).
Now I'm more happy than before to bought the Diztronic case
I have this TPU case and I like it. The only thing I don't care for most of the TPU cases is while the power button is open, the volume rocker is not, so the case gets in the way somewhat. Now I guess I could get out my xacto knife and engineer my own solution but that's not the point LOL.
I started using the toughcase I got last week since I'm a little concerned there isn't enough TPU material to protect the phone? But...it's definitely thin and unobtrusive and feels good in the hand and it also doesn't block any of the ports. It also doesn't attract dust or pocket lint like a magnet like the toughcase silicone. There are tradeoffs for anything I guess.
I bought this case too, from Amazon, though in the smoke translucent matte version.
http://www.amazon.com/Diztronic-Tra...UTFO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323792395&sr=8-1
It fits great. It's not loose at all, even though it's on a GSM version. You can read my review on that site.
I'm a bit finicky with my phones though, so I don't put it in my pocket. Too high a chance for lint/scratches otherwise, though scratches would be unlikely given the protection now. Finding a belt clip pouch to fit though was difficult. Especially for the phone with the TPU case on it! Finally got the largest one available at Verizon to work, though you really have to shove it in.
The provided screen protector is missing maybe a millimeter from either side, FYI.
Hi OneStepAhead, Are you going to have the glossy ones up on your ebay page soon also? I tried ordering from Amazon.com but they won't ship to Canada for some reason.

air cooling case for GN. (pic inside)

Actually, I really dont know how to describe such case.
Since there many holes on the back and might be help for to cool down GN.
So I just call it air cooling case.
There're also other kind of case with holes on ebay and taobao. But they are
too rough and too ugly. Usually cost around 3RMB,but u won't want to put it
on your GN which might scratch ur GN.
I bought this one around 10USD. And the color is green with little bit metal
feeling.
The only disadvantage is: It won't fit with 2000mah battery. So u can only use
1750mah battery with it.

Plenty of cheap ones.
These are called "Mesh snap on" cases.
Here's for the GSM Nexus: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=i9250+mesh&_sacat=0
$1.92
There's no "snap on mesh" cases for the Verizon, they're more fully formed so it's not cheap.
$7-$9 http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=i515+mesh&_sacat=0&_odkw=i9250+mesh&_osacat=0
Those are the cheap feeling ones the OP described. I was asking for a link to a cheaper site for the Anymode version the OP recommended. Thanks though!
99.9% anti-bacterial
Nice!
this is not going to cool your phone, you are adding another layer of plastic to trap heat. do you cool yourself by wearing a sweater?

The "air cooling" is just a term to describe this case. Just a comparison
between other TPU or silicon case.
Of course no case is the coolest!

Great case! I ended up getting it from eBay since I can't read Korean/Chinese nor trust signing up with credit card info to foreign websites I don't understand. Nice matte finish on the black one here. Feels solid, snug and good in the hand. The wrap-around to the front leaves just enough of a gap between housing and screen that edge-to-edge screen protectors should work nicely. And the design and materials seem excellent for signal, WiFi and NFC (unlike my last case)! Would definitely buy again.
Very, very pleased... now I just need my Fantom tempered glass screen protector:

Those ones don't really count. The pictures show a full case with the snap on mesh that goes over it. So the mesh on those cases is just for looks.
My issue with these mesh cases is that dust collects in the holes REALLY easily. :\

The Diztronic TPU case now available

Finally. An amazing TPU case without the cheesy back design.

The quality of the plastic is superior. Once I bought one for my Galaxy Nexus I've got one for every phone since then. They are the best TPU brand for phones.
You won't regret it. It's cheap too!
My SII Skyrocket Diztronic case ended up being my favorite of the various cases I tried.
Not at all flashy. Nothing special about it.
It just "works" properly. And doesn't get beat up like cheaper cases do.
And I like that they are finally doing cutouts for BOTH the volume & power unlike on my last case.
I hate anything covering the power or volume buttons. Though some folks do like that.
I've used these cases for 2 years on Captivate, Infuse, Galaxy Nexus and Note. They're grippy, durable and fit perfectly. I just ordered one for my S3. Thanks for the heads-up.
I already have Rock Case, 4 Cruzerlite TPU cases... and a Leather pouch... Do I need/want one more....?
I have a Cruzelite...definitely sub par to the Diztronic cases I've had in the past and I'm sure it will be the same with the new one I have on the way.

Sorry for the delay in getting our S III cases up guys, I was out of town and had an employee put them up. Unfortunately she accidentally set the start selling date as July 6th so the pages never went live. I said didn't you realize we weren't getting any orders?! We sent inventory to Amazon on Friday so Prime shipping options should be available either Tuesday or Wednesday.
We did include a screen protector with this release made of Japanese film. When we first started including screen protectors we were using a Korean film, which is slightly better than Chinese but still had some rainbowing and purpling. These Japanese based ones are great, very good clarity. Even though including them almost doubles our costs we've kept our prices the same for the time being. Thanks everyone for your continued support!

The company resides and manufactures in America (Madison, WI, near me!!). The customer service is absolutely OUTSTANDING. You basically end up talking to a real person who is dead set on making sure you're satisfied.
And TPU, in general, is perfect for me. Thin, adds a little grip but doesn't stick in pockets.

cldn't agree more, they are indeed bad. Just ordered Diztronic for my S III . Loved it on my Nexus , was waiting for a week for it to be available in the meanwhile i thought i would try cruzerlite . Apart from the fit, i dint like the looks of it too, esp that i wanted something with a plain back matte finish . Diztronic was the perfect fit . Love it Love it!!!
Actually they are in Madison, but my EVO 4G LTE Diz TPU's specifically stated Manufactured in China.
I put them in a bowl of water and they don't sink so I'd guess they aren't full of lead.
The water did turn green and looked like antifreeze though (just kidding!)

We are in Madison, WI but unfortunately we have our cases made in China for the time being. I'm looking at potentially having them made in Akron, OH but it's not set in stone at this point. If anyone has any contacts with US based factories that can manufacturer TPU cases feel free to contact me. For now we are using the same lingo everyone else uses, "Designed in ___ Manufactured in China". Our screen protectors however are manufactured in Japan. Some of you should be receiving your GS III cases today, I know at least one XDA member received theirs on Saturday as they were in Wisconsin. I'm looking forward to seeing some feedback as my GS III from Sprint hasn't arrived yet!

It doesn't have a cutout for the camera, as in my opinion I'd rather have it covered so it's protected. If someone can show me an example of diminished picture quality because of it I may be swayed to make a cutout for it in the future. As far as going all the way to the edge of the glass, from what I understand it's not possible to do so on the GS III because of the way the glass tapers on the edges, so we made the screen protector in the same way as our One X screen protector. It essentially covers the flat part of the glass. You could probably go all the way to the edge with a wet adhesive based screen protector, but with a static type screen protector they would just peel up.

Great response. Its great to have good interraction with the manufacture and the end user. That makes for the best experience in both parties. Thank you.

A new type of "full screen adhseive" glass.. ? Sort of..

So.. I ordered a thing... its supposed to be a New style Tempered glass for the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus Phones!
GravX
https://youtu.be/4c0dHp7uHEA
When I got it the, I told there seller that it wasn't really fully adhesive in the usual (real glue) way. He said it's a substrate of the glass that has nano pores on it... It has something on it.. Cause it sticks better and looks better... Except for a liquidy looking black smudge.. The real glue on it has definitely been changed.. And is noticbley stronger the the other ones..
https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Galaxy-s8-and-s8-full-ab_60659712905.html
Got it from Alibaba.com.. I will be giving away 2 or 3 of these guys in a give away towards the end of the week.. All you need to do is like a subscribe and leave a comment . I will announce the winners on my twitter page. The info is at the end of the video.. I will be conducting more testing on this during the next week.. Such as VR headset compatibility .. Their are no micro dots on this screen protector.
This Does not have the Dot matrix on the Display ( little dots)
This Technically isn't "real adhesive" its more of a textured nano suction surface on the glass.. with that being said.. It does stick much better then the other ones... ( it does and I was surprised it did)
It used a new Adhesive on the edges that blends into the Surface of the Glass on the protector.
I will get into more details on this glass in Part 2
In the mean time sit back and enjoy and think of question and testings you want me to try on this new Glass!!
Hi GravX,

If they're really full adhesive, there will be an Amazon prime seller popping up with them once the first US shipment arrives. Don't stress yourself out trying to sell 200 screen protectors in your free time
It shouldn't be that hard, just don't price them to high or break even by pricing them at what you paid. Everyone cares about profits only and when you think like that, just maximizing your profit, it's hard to move product.
Is anyone able to order? if someone got some PM me please. I am interested. I have few s8 and s8+.
Whitestone Dome screen protector from Amazon. Simply amazing. Expensive but worth it
I did manage to order a few of them, they are suppose to send me the full screen and case compatible.. I can't wait to get them so I can try it out

Galaxy S10E Case

A case I had back on the S7 they are making for the S10e is
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MQRVRGG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I love that the case is a slim case with a stand so I can watch movies and it easly slide into the hoster and you can rotate the holster 90 as I like it in landscape.
Just though I would share it.
I had a Samsung case included, feels like rubbery plastic I don't like it at all, this has to be awarded as the slipperiest case in the world. Already ordered a Supcase I'll post pictures once it arrives
This one
Ringke Fusion-X Designed for Galaxy S10e (5.8") Case
I have it and love it. Reminds me of UAG case without the price. It's like 12 bucks in Amazon
Samsung Pattern Cover Cases
They come with the international versions free in the box. They have holes all over them, sell them from Samsung Store in Ireland. Seems they won't ship to the USA. Anyone know where I can buy a couple ??
Thank You very much,

I got the tech21 in smokey black at Verizon when I got the phone. Nothing super special, just a semi-transparent TPU case. Does its job well and looks nice on my blue S10e, but it's just a TPU case, so I'm not sure it's worth what they're charging for it.
Does anyone have suggestions on a S10e case that is Fabric?
I have never had a fabric case but I thought I'd try one out. I can't find any except some really cheap looking Chinese knockoff things.

Ressistant, VERY slim, good look, good grip and texture.

Check out MOFI brand case.
It has a soft fabric backing. I got it off Amazon about 15buck.
For those looking for a slim case, check out the Korean brand $10 Araree A Fit cases. The deep blue color is nice and fits the bill for me. They also have the Typoskin model available directly (but shipping is prohibitive). I am waiting for the $20 Araree Typoskin from a Korean eBay seller.
Why the A Fit or Typoskin? I wanted a low profile, business casual look (but not black so it's easy to spot in the dark), protective and not a fingerprint magnet. I used Diztronic for my S7 (which survived many drops on concrete!). I have accidentally dropped the S10e in the Araree A Fit a few times. The blue A Fit has good fingerprint resistance (the clear one might be different). It stays relatively clean all day, except during times when my hands are very sweaty.
Disclaimer: I have gone through (and returned) DOZENS of S10e cases from Amazon. We're a family of 4 with different cases ranging from $10 to $40: the Araree A Fit deep blue on a Prism Blue S10e, the Incipio NGP clear on a Flamingo Pink S10e, the Caseology Parallax black on a Prism Blue S10e and the Gear4 Piccadilly clear/white on a white S10e. I've tried all kind of cases from Spigen, Incipio, Encased, Pelican, Under Armour, Bodyguardz and various other lesser known brands.

I agree, it's a good case and I've tried two different Mofi cases. IMO, the lip rim around the front is a bit too soft/flimsy and not as tout/firm as I had found in other low profile cases (less firm, meaning, it may be less protective in case of drops).

At least from the renders on the Amazon listing, this is probably the best looking for the price, Spigen's Silicone Fit being a close second. Super interested in this case and don't see anything online so some photos of it would be great

Yeah there is no lip with glass protector at all with the MOFI. I have the MOFI, Blue speck, Spigen liquid air and xdoria defense (has a channel so the bottom speaker sound routes to the front instead of bottom)
The speck case is my favorite for the grippy lines it has and it has the biggest lip but the xdoria is nice for the sound routing feature.
