What would you like to see in a video review? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Everyone,
So I've basically decided to take the plunge and get the grey international note.
I preordered pretty early so I hope to have one within two weeks.
I already made a long video regarding the galaxy note and my thoughts on it after 3 months,
and I'm thinking to do another one for the Note 2.
The overall theme is 'should I get the Note 2 if I have the Note 1?'.
I own the international note 1.
The focus is either to demo new features in a 'real world' style,
and demo improved stuff side by side - note 1 vs note 2 so you can judge the difference.
I'm posting this thread to ask for suggestions on what you would like to see tried/demoed.
It's important to note that I WILL NOT do anything that will be done 1000 times in other videos.
That means:
1) No unboxing
2) No standard benchmarks (aka quadrant/atutu/speednet/etc)
3) No readings of specifications
4) No scratch test, sorry!
5) Probably no camera tests, unless someone comes up with something pretty original.
Nothing wrong with any of that - I don't just don't see the point in regurgitating that stuff yet again.
My video will be long enough - trust me. I want a video that complements, not repeats, standard reviews.
So for example, I'm thinking of doing the following:
(1 v 2) means note 1 vs note 2 comparison.
1) I have a few games that are choppy. Video record the same gameplay (1 v 2)
2) Battery comparison [size/contacts/etc] - (1 v 2)
3) S-pen size comparison - (1 v 2)
4) Demo the 'get an alert when you walk away from the stylus'. (how far away? does it go off if you play a game?)
5) pocketability demos
6) LED notification tests - showing the LED blinking in different ways/colors.
7) s-pen offset/'accuracy' tests - whether note 2 is more accurate.
8) Screen comparisons: (1 v 2). Brightest/darkest settings. Tint of 'white'. Black Crush. Grey smudges.
9) Run various apps (1 v 2). Purpose of this test is to demonstrate the effect of the aspect ratio change.
10) Loudspeaker volume comparison (1 v 2)
11) Be kind of nice to compare sound chips somehow. Perhaps redirect earphone output to something and record a clip? (can't be something that'll get my video blocked though)
12) How quickly the Note heats up if you grind cpu, with or without simultaneous charging.
13) Show new motion/spen gestures
14) Added - split screen, and how it plays with the keyboard
15) Camera - test for purple spot by shooting a flat colored surface.
16) Daylight visibility
Things that aren't necessarily new to the Note 2 but I never/rarely see demonstrated in a video:
1) How palm rejection works with the stylus
2) How stylus angle/etc affects offset, including handedness.
3) video showing how quickly the Note acquires GPS lock.
4) how the s-pen works i.e. pushing in the tip to 'press' against the screen.
I also plan to do timing tests of things I think may run much faster on the Note 2:
Probably won't show comparisons on video. Depends on the difference.
1) Timing test: haxsync - sync all facebook contact pictures, full replace.
2) Timing test: How long to do a titanium backup and restore of all apps. (whenever I get root)
3) Timing test: Time to run 'diskusage' on internal memory, and external sd card.
4) Timing test: Time to install a new ROM/kernels, including the bootup/'updating application X of Y' stuff.
5) Timing test: app folders - the rescan whenever I change resolution.
Other requested tests:
1) See if GPS/glonass works without a GSM card inserted.
That's all I can think of offhand.
If you have any ideas for specific things or tests you'd like to see, please comment below.
Thanks!

7) Video of bootup, then immediately try to get a GPS lock, and time that whole thing. GPS lock should be same as note 1, but not many videos show this.
8) Test for black crush. (1 v 2) Recommendation on what youtube video clip and second range (i.e. :30 to :45) to use would be helpful.
9) Run various apps (1 v 2). Purpose of this test is to demonstrate the effect of the aspect ratio change.

J/k, But I'd really like a battery life comparison between the note 1 and 2, comparisons of the awake times during sleep, and screen on time vs battery life.
Definitely also interested to see if black crush still exists, and also comparisons of the color temperatures of the screens, as the note1 has a very cool blue temperature due to thenpentile arrangement.
I will look forward to your review!

This is pretty hard, actually. Hell, it's hard even comparing Note 1s to note 1s, due to all the possible factors.
But you are right, the bigger battery life is one of the more interesting factors.
I could do standard battery rundown tests, but I think this will be done better by others.

Boobies.

I added 'palm rejection demonstration'.
I have now a separate section of 'things that it has in common with the note 1, but you don't see demonstrated much'.
I think the video length is going to be long enough that I might split that into a totally separate video though.

Added:
12) How quickly the Note heats up if you grind cpu, with or without simultaneous charging.
13) Show new motion/spen gestures

How about screen brightness?

Yeah, good one!
Added, along with 'test for tint of white, and look for those 'grey blotches' that you sometimes see in dark rooms.

Since you will have the phone befoee me for sure, and I have never used the Note 1. Can you please cover every lityle thing S Pen can do and all.
I would like to learn this phone before I get it on my hands and S Pen is the only new thing for me.
Thank You.

That should tell you what the S Pen's functionality is and what you can do with it. Pretty cool stuff, I like the idea of being able to take down notes quickly while in a call

I would like to see if Samsung includes the stock vanilla launcher, unlike they did with the galaxy S 3

Yea, the s pen itself hasn't really changed from a functionality standpoint.

check if the S pen and the finder can work together at the same time. (try to draw to lines is S Note, one with the S pen and one with the finger at the exactly same time)
i dont know why, this interests me

I want to know for a fact is the Note 2 supports wireless charging or not, and see all the accessories for the Note 2

I'll be testing this, but this is not supposed to work. It's called 'palm rejection',
so you can rest your palm on the note while you are writing.

Can you check please if GPS/GLONASS works with phone (I mean GSM module) turned completely off? Cause it doesn't on my old Samsung phone... :crying: And how long is the battery life with GPS on.

Some users had the pink spot tint from the camera on note 1 when a solid colour is on screen worth checking for

Hi, this is just my personal experience with my Desire, that i've had for about 2 months now.
1. The battery lasts about 2 days with low-medium usage, or about 1 day with about 1 hour of music, some talk, lots of texting and some browsing and various messing around with apps. I usually charge it up every night to just to be sure.
2. The browser is absolutely excellent and the best i've ever used on a mobile device. And it will be even better when the 2.2 update comes out.
3. Yes, there is a widget called power control that lets you toggle wifi, bluetooth, gps, syncing and backlight quickly. Mine connects to the wi-fi in just a few seconds, i'd say about 3-5, also it supports auto connection when in range.
4. I personally love the AMOLED, the colours are awesome, and i really love that there is no backlight bleed like on regular lcds. My friends with iphones agree that it's bettter. In bright sunlight it's only visible enough to answer calls and maybe read the time, otherwise it's pretty much washed out, you will not be able to browse the net or do anything that requires reading text without a great deal of effort, however i do not find regular lcd to be much more usable in the same conditions.
5. Yes, but only if you're in the songs panel.
6. I'd call the loudspeaker fair, not great, but not bad. It sounds reasonably good, but it could be louder.
7. Camera is bad my standards, but i do tend to be very picky about my photography and use an SLR camera. It's ok in daylight, and for quick snaps, i guess but i mostly use it for google goggles, and taking pictures on signs and things i want to remember without writing then down. I never had an N95 so i can't say.
8. As far as i know it does, but i have not tried it. I personally have a 16GB Sandisk bought from Amazon.
9. It's really up to you, the Desire is pretty much the best phone on the market right now IMHO and you will definitely be happy with it.
hi
1. how is the battery life? (if you can be very specific it would be great) Pretty good considering all the phones features. I charge mine every night just to be safe, the phone uses micro USB so could even charge in the office if needed. I get about 1.5 days out of mine from a charge but i am always online or texting.
2. how is the browser? The browser is great, so quick and easy to use. The browser even supports windows so you can have more than one page open at once. If you use RSS feeds there's also a great News app on the phone too.
3. is there any WIFI toggel for fast swiching? is it connect to WIFI fast as the iphone? Yes there is, there's the power control widget as mentioned which gives control of wifi, bluetooth, gps, sync, display and i think airplane mode, but you can also place individual "switches" on the home screen too.
4. AMOLED display? is it really that good? and what will happen to the phone if i use it outside- over sunlight or at the beach? could i really see anything or not?Much better than the AMOLED screen on my old Nokia N85. I find it fairly easy(although not desireable) to use out in broad daylight, but i do live in the UK so if you're anywhere a bit more sunny then you may have a problem i guess.
5. can i make serch for songs by name in the music player?Yes
6. how is the loudspeaker ?? is it bad? It's good enough for me, but could be a little louder.
7. how is the camera qulaty of photos and videos? can i compare them to NOKIA N95 camera? better or worse?I'd say the camera is better than the N95 and also the N85 which i had after that but not as good as a dedicated camera which is the case with most phones.
8. is it really support a 32 GB micro sd ?? if yes can someone bring me link to ebay where i can buy it? have to be from SAN DISK? or kingston is good also? The spec says 32GB is supported but never tried one as i don't need that much memory on my phone really.
9. should i wait for and new HTC ACE (the romer of evo GSM ?)It's all down to you, all i can say is i love my Desire and feel i made the right choice buying one.
thats it for now ill have more qustian when ill remember
thanks

1: Depends how many apps you have running in the background, bog standardd straight out the box battery last about 24 hours or less, stop some background tasks that you don't really need all the time you will double the the battery life.
2: Browser works fine for me, I don't have a problem with it.
3: Never used a Iphone so I can't compare, I leave Wifi on permanently, 3Gs Mobile Internet I have switched off because I'm only on a xx amount of mb per month so it saves connecting without me knowing (ie; updates etc), I only turn it on when I want. Plus it saves more battery usage.
4: Display is supern , it impresses me, as for viewing in bright sun it can be difficult without shading the screen but I think that goes for ANY mobile phone does it not?
5: Not in the actual standard music program, maybe in other apps, however you can use Astro file manager app, do a search in the mp3 folder for a song, tap it when found and it will play.
6: Speaker is fine, sounds good to me but then again it's not a £500.00 + pounds stereo system is it. I've certainly heard a lot worse.
7: Camera , I never used Nokia so again can't compare, It'll never be as good as my Canon 40D dslr but it's not bad, you can mess around with limited manual settings if you wish. Heres a sample only resized for forum, Don't know if pics are allowed here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4801613634/
8: I got a 4GB micro sd card supllied with mine (Orange) other providers might be different. San Disk seems to have the better reputation when it comes to camera cards so I'd probably go with them, be careful on Ebay a lot of fake san disks on there.
9: If you wait for the new Ace or any other, by the time they are ready for release there will probably be another new one getting tested and you will be repeating your question again.
Bill is in the post
The Desire is an excellent device, had mine for a month and would highly recommend it!
I will give you a brief rundown of my experiences:
1: I get around 18 hours of battery, this is with 90 minutes of music at loud volume, an hour of watching tv programs on the train, several calls, text messages and emails.
2: Browser is the best I've ever seen, much better that the iphone browser in my opinion. Smooth scrolling, very fast loading.
3: wifi is very quick to lock on, very easy to set up and can be toggled on and off from the home screen in seconds.
4: Amoled screen is beautiful, amazing colours and very crisp, only advantage to iphone screen is it's slightly more crisp for small text.
5: Music search is only when the music app is open, but there is a download from the market that adds music to the home screen search.
6: Loudspeaker is very loud but can be tinny at loud volumes for music and voice. excellent volume for ringing tone.
7: Camera quality is below iphone 4 but not by much.
8: 32gb card works perfectly.
9: If you really want the large screen then wait otherwise there's not much else that's an upgrade.
The biggest factor in making the decision should be the os, android is open, easy to modify and capable of more, also it had more free apps but low on games.
iphone os is locked down heavily, needs a pc to transfer files and had no widgets or any quick toggles but is undeniably better for games.

the only thing that scars me now is the thing you guys said about the screen in sunlight
is that really that bad? do you ment about dierct sunlight to the screen?
http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/21/super-amoled-vs-amoled-vs-lcd-in-direct-sunlight-fight/
1) battery life seemed to be terrible at the beginning, now it's okay... maybe it's because I don't use it as much as in the beginning few days ago, battery was at 60% 48 hours after charging and with low usage on MCR 3.1
2) browser is great
3) you can switch wifi on and off easily, check out this widget:

it's that easy
4) amoled screen is great, but visibility is really bad in the sun
5) I don't think you can do that in default music player, but there are much better (and free) music players for android (like TuneWiki) that support this option.
6) speaker isn't really good, and it's located at a bad spot too (on the back of the device)
7) camera is pretty bad imo
8) yes
9) judging by your interests, I think you would do better with Iphone 4, but maybe you should check both of the phones personally at store to make your own decision
See it for yourself in typical and strong sunlight. That's the only way for you to be sure how it is simply because visual acuity differs so vastly among us. I bought it in the UK but I've used it in South Asia 40-46 degrees, and if you've been there, you'll know how scorching fierce and blinding bright the sunlight is during the summer. You can hardly open your eyes. You'll have problems in such light viewing... absolutely no doubt but I can see the display and use the phone without trying too hard (on max brightness). I used the GPS daily in such weather. It's just not as bright and clearly visible as it could be to reduce eyestrain and input delay. Most of my older phones, netbooks and laptops are far worse.
I'm not personally particular about phone camera pictures but if you're asking, I have a N95 since 2006 and owned the 8GB version for about 4 months. I've compared shots when I bought this. I'd say the camera on the Desire is definitely not as good, certainly not in the dark. There is more grainy noise, lack in detail per pixel and specifically lack of detail in the images apparent when zoomed in. Night/evening shots are no where as good. Macro shots are not as good, they are very soft compared to the N95, appearing as if the detail is washed out.
However, the Desire camera has some noticeable plus points over the N95 which gives it a significant edge. The outside daylight pics are good enough in comparison, unless you have to zoom in much whilst taking the pic or in the final image. Pics taken inside - day or night, macro or micro, ambient light or none - are far superior and more true to an actual representation. There are far more camera apps and options available, some delivering better, more accurate pictures than the stock in certain settings. There is far more control over each image capture, output option and photo editing on the Desire. It takes pics of readable text on screens (like PC) or anywhere else (like a signboard or a textbook) much clearer with higher readability, with OCR apps available that work exceptionally well (like converting a scanned text image to PDFs works superbly). The weaker flash for nightshot distant images turns into a major plus when shooting indoor or close-up pics, as it doesn't out-flash the text or object you're trying to capture unlike the N95, and the flash has a superior, more even spread than on the N95 (which is very strong but focused centrally). The colour reproduction, white balance and saturation is for starters, better, but highly tweakable on top which leads to a more true picture representation. Some of the shots I've taken have resulted in colours so true that I never expected them from any phone.

That video and image capture shows the Desire screen nothing like I see it in daily use. It looks pathetic and not useable in those captures. The Samsung there looks very close to what I see in direct 45 degree strong South Asian sunlight. UK and US sunlight brightness is far milder.

different reviews give different results, check this for example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrSLHRbtRoo
Regarding sunlight, check out:
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/11646_Sunlight-the_flaw_in_many_a_ma.php
http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2010/06/screen-comparison-shows-lcd-still-beats-super-amoled-in-sunlight/
From these sources, it doesn't look like the iPhone 4 will have better luck in the sun than any other phone. Apple chose the IPS screen for excellent viewing angle and indoor performance, but it doesn't rank well outdoors.
If this is important to you, then nothing but some older (and cheaper and non-smart) Nokia phones will serve you well. They don't seem to make smartphones sun-proof.
I have gone to eBay and picked up some cheap anti-glare matte screen protectors for every phone I've ever owned and I highly recommend them. They usually don't reduce the screen's touch sensitivity noticeably, and they protect the screen from scratches at the same time. They won't miraculously make your screen perfectly legible in all lighting conditions, but they certainly help.

1. dont know as i never opened that many on the built in browser, theres few other very good browsers you might wanna have a look at ie skyfire opera doplhin hd
2. you can install the gallery from nexus one
3. probably there are some mods for the keyboard to be like iphone, though iphone keybord < HTC_ime mod
4. yes, i have windows 7 64 and works fine
5. perhaps you expect too much, if you got millions of high resolution photos dont expect them to load in 1 second, each photo has to be processed separately by the processor
6. the speaker in phone calls is really loud for me, and slightly too loud when listening to music ( of course at the 100% volume)
ps. next time use search option, as mosf of these questions has been answered couple times already

1. Yeah, there's a limit of 5 windows with HTC Sense browser, but you can install another browser (Opera, Dolphin...) or use a stock rom (the stock browser is better IMO).
2. You can install this gallery : search for Gallery3D.apk on here or on Google.
3. IMO, the HTC Sense keyboard is far better than the iPhone's one (or at least of the stock Android's one), but you can install plenty of other keyboard, and even iPhone-likes (Android's magic).
4. It's easier on Mac/Linux, but you can use Vista/Seven (you'll have to install a driver, but not a big deal).
5. I also noticed that HTC apps are kinda slow, but still usable. Maybe it'll be fixed in Froyo.
6. I don't know, i have no problem with the speaker.

Just to correct the above poster; the limitation is 4 tabs with the default browser. You can open more with other browsers but the negative consequence is higher memory usage, higher cache usage and much slower functioning.

This gallery might look trendy on video but it is far far inferior to the stock Sense gallery. The stock gallery transitions, speed, zoom and detail clarity is better than any gallery I've yet tested. Especially with larger pictures.

You can use many various ones and tweak aesthetics and functionality to preference. This is my keyboard and dialer for instance:

Cez10 is very right... you'll get more in-depth details on each aspect than we're providing here if you search this forum.

You were initially comparing an iPhone4 to the Desire. Would you have been interested in jail-breaking your iPhone4? I think 99% of users are probably going to be fine without needing to root the handset.
I rooted mine (using unrevoked, see my signature) for the following reasons:
- absolutely hate my carrier and wanted to remove the programs they installed
- wanted to test potentially-dangerous unstable bleeding-edge experimental versions of Android
There are other good reasons for doing so, but I would never recommend rooting to anyone unless they know _why_ they are doing it. Friends of mine also have the Desire and they are perfectly happy with HTC Sense and the pre-installed applications.
I think you'll find the Desire is as pleasant (if not more so) to use than the iPhone4 without needing to tamper with it.

The HTC One

Hey guys I'm in need of an upgrade and I think the HTC One is the answer!
I was wondering if you could please give me feedback on your experience so far.
All I know about the cons like
Can't change battery
No SD card...
So how is the battery life etc??
Thanks

Absolutely love the device.
The Zoe feature and camera UI is top notch. You can do some really neat things with photo editing that I haven't seen on other devices. Galleries and slideshows are very cool too. I love showing those off to people and they're always impressed.
The screen is absolutely gorgeous with great viewing angles.
The front facing speakers are as good as people hype them up. I feel like I'm listening to a mini Bose system when I use them.
The build quality/design is among the best in smartphones. Easily the sexiest device I've owned.
Battery life has been surprisingly tremendous for me. I only plug in at night and easily get through a day of pretty heavy usage. Typically have about 40 to 50% battery left by the end of the night. I do use the snapdragon battery app so maybe that helps a bit.
The storage space was a concern for me but I ordered a meenova and it should be on its way soon. The reviews I've read on those have been positive and I just received my 64gb microSD card which I'll use for my carefully curated music collection. That will free up the 32gb onboard for everything else.

The battery was my biggest concern prior to buying and I have been presently surprised at how good it's been. I agree with his assessment 100%.

32gb is not enough storage for a phone? I'm curious what everyone is storing. I'm probably using less that 10gb currently. For music, I'll download an album here and there, but usually use pandora or stream from my amazon cloud.
For the OP, no problems so far. Battery life has been good. I don't try to let it run down, charge when I'm able, and haven't died yet. Looking at a portable battery pack just in case.
Phone is very smooth and fast, no problems streaming videos or playing intense games like asphalt 8.

I'm a big time music aficionado and have a ton of music on my phone. I don't have unlimited data so streaming isn't really an option.
I have only had my for a few days but I get a full day of battery life without any issue. I am a fairly low to medium user, but on my droid3 I would have to plug in at the 10 hour mark.
Here is a screen shot of my first full day, medium use downloading apps and getting it all set up. Plus about a million speed tests.
I can vouch for battery life being great for such a beast of a device... My rezound with half the specs and extended battery pack has about the same life as my One with similar usage, but the one does it faster with a bigger screen.
And I think 32gb is adequate. I would love to have 64 or 128, but I never use more than 16 or so GB before I start cleaning storage out.
I love light and fast with a small footprint, so this phone rocks.
Sent from my Zune HD. Yeah, I still have one of those.
(EDIT) Since posting the below, including edits, I have come to the conclusion that my phone is indeed defective, and am having it replaced. I'll report back.
I love the phone, but there are three major problems that prevent me from recommending it, although I don't know what else to get.
1. The camera. It has problems with focus, and the interaction between focus and exposure settings. It's hard to get a sharp picture out of it at medium to long range, making it all but useless for landscape/distance shots. The default settings let in too much light outside in daylight, resulting in hazy shots; and the only way to get a blue sky or anything close to enough sharpness to even zoom in just a little is to over-darken the shot by notching down the exposure and contrast controls. Indoors, there's flaring of brighter areas, and oversensitivity to the purple spectrum, as well as near impossibility of getting sharp shots at any distance. The auto exposure control changes the exposure so jerkily it's devilish to control. The wide angle and aspects of the big pixels show a lot of promise (and I'll bet the iPhone 5s with its 8 "ultra pixels" will provide proof of concept), but the way it is, the camera sucks. HTC says they're aware of this and working on an update. Uh huh. How long has this phone been out now internationally?
2. The speakers. A major selling point of the phone, and rightly so, as they really do sound great - especially with Beats on, or you can get more volume with it off, if volume is a priority. But the speakers are out of balance, with the bottom (right) one louder than the left, and there's some phase weirdness. For those of us who notice these things - this phone's natural constituency - it's really annoying. HTC says they "haven't heard much about this", but are looking into it. Meanwhile, I went into a corporate Verizon store and every employee in there with any experience of the phone said, "Oh yeah, everybody knows about that," and proceeded to give me the most imbecilic, trumped up explanations you could ever imagine. The kicker was, "They have to make the top speaker softer because they use it as an earpiece for the phone function."
3. BLUETOOTH. Unfreakingbelievable. If it hasn't been connected since the phone was last turned off, it will connect to your car radio automatically, as long as Bluetooth on the phone is turned on BEFORE the car. (EDIT - Turns out this isn't always the case, and may depend on the particular car radio.) But once the connection is broken, it will not re-connect automatically. When you try to connect manually, it may or may not connect properly, or may need repeated tries, or connect media but not phone function, or it may show it has done both but actually hasn't. But regardless, although the phone's music player will play, internet radio type apps will not play over Bluetooth - and the call quality will be greatly degraded. The only fix is to turn the phone completely off and on again - with Fast Boot OFF; a soft restart will NOT fix it - whereupon everything works fine. (EDIT - The foregoing fix also does not always work. With my car (2012 Subaru Impreza Ltd.), once the connection is successfully made, Bluetooth can be turned off and on again on the phone, and it will connect without a problem. It is when the car has been turned off that reconnection becomes a problem. My iPhone 4 worked flawlessly with this car.)
I really don't think my particular phone is faulty, in all these ways, especially since it doesn't have any of the other problems people have been reporting, and works perfectly otherwise. But please, somebody, convince me that it is, and I'll go get another one! Any case, there's loads of people having these problems.
(EDIT - further investigation with a couple of actually honest and knowledgable Verizon people has reinforced my conclusions, including the "loads of people having these problems" part, objected to by the commenter below. The camera is decidedly sub-par, the speakers are not in balance, and the Bluetooth, apparently typically of HTC, is badly done. These sources also reinforce those on this board who indicate that rooting can solve or improve these issues.)

[Q] Going to buy this phone, need some questions answered.

I will not be doing any rooting and no customs roms.
Model no - SM-N750
1. How does the perform after all the stock updates to this date? I know touchwiz is laggy but apart from that, does the phone hang while mild multitasking?
2. Heard the phone has overheating issue? (any comments on this)
3. People reporting about the phone restarting on its own, randomly or while charging?
4. How bad is the screen flickering? I think the fix is somewhere in the fourms.
5. Is there all the (note 3) s pen features on (note 3 neo), or is it a cut down thing, like reduced pressure senstivity or something?

1. It lags occasionally, more so if you are on 3G. WiFi seems to be less taxing on HW. Also, I switched to Google Now launcher. Definately more smooth than TouchWiz.
2. I don't play games but in normal usage, even watching movies, I haven't seen overheating.
3. Never happened to me (N7505 version).
4. While on G+ and Twitter, I sometimes see flickering but I don't care. As soon as I stop the scrolling, things settle immediately.
5. Note 3 and N3N pens are identical. I like using it. Even tried the N4 pen. Didn't notice any difference.
I bought this phone on august, 14 and highly satisfied with its performance and overall experience.
Note 3 Neo is a Note 3 with proper screen size, less price and without some useless specifications(like 2k display, 2.7 GHz octacore prosessor etc). Even a power user will not use the 2.7Ghz Octacore Processer to its fullest so why need one. N3N has nice battery backup of 1 full day which is quite impressive for a 5.5" AMOLED Display smartphone.
1. This Phone is nicely Optimized and I can't remember of any lags with this phone. (Touchwiz has evolved)
2. I won't say it doesn't overheat because it does. but its not very often. I experienced overheating while listening to songs during travelling.
3. Didn't noticed screen flickering.
4. sPen is totally identical to note 3.

Considering buying OnePlus 3

Hi!
After having my SGS4 for 3 years now (Thought it would last alot longer but since Pokemon Go I realized my device is struggling to keep the game running smooth and battery drain is real) I was looking for a "Bang for the buck" phone, so OnePlus 3 came into mind.
Now I've read some reviews and some were more posetive than others, all in all it seems like a great phone, especially for the money.
However, I have some questions I hope you guys can answer.
1. The phone has no expandable SD card, which leaves from what I've read 52,66GB storage for the user to use. Is this partitioned or is it just whats left after Oxygen OS? In other words, will this change between ROMS? Whats your experience with this if you before this device got used to having SD slot?
2. I've read about GPS/Signal issues here, this is just software related right? (As it seems from other threads I've read).
3. It also seems that Sources have been released for OP3, which means development will be supported for a long time, am I correct here?
4. Some reviews said OIS function was really lacking, is it software or hardware issue? Is it lacking at all?
5. On SGS4 the screean has smearing (The blue pixels light slower than the other pixels, which gives smearing effect). Does OP3 have similar issue? (AFAIK it uses a Samsung AMOLED display)
6. Any hardbrick commands to avoid? (Like bootloader erase command for Nexus 7, and please do NOT find it out for me if you don't know, bricking your phone as result)
7. Is the fingerprint reader anything other than a reader, like is it a button or capacitive button?
8. How is using USB type C in a world full of MicroUSB?
9. Battery is not "swappable" but what I've seen it's pretty easy to replace if you open up the phone, do you think it will be changable or is the battery any "special edition" (Like SGS4 has built in NFC in it's battery).
10. If anyone have had SGS4 before, general comparision, I suspect about everything will be better with OP3. So to turn it around, what was better on the SGS4?
Thats all for now.
Just put corresponding number infront of your answer, if you want to anwser specific questions.
Thanks in advance and hopefully it will make me an OP3 owner

1. In other words it acts as a sdcard. Only downside for me (have been used to have removable sd card) is that I can't use my usb card reader no more and can't swap cards + in future some expansion would surely come handy, but for now I am completely satisfied with those 52 gigs. As it is much much larger than on my previous phone
2. Absolutely no issues here. I am using OP3Lite custom ROM based on stock Oxygen 3.2.1
3. Dunno, hope so.
4. Honestly, don't know. I didn't test a camera that much, and can't even compare with other OIS devices. But from my point of view it is working fine.
5. I think I know what you mean. I can see it when set display brightness to minimum in a really dark room. But when you set it juust a bit above the minimum (which is really low in my opinion) then it disapears.
6. Dunno.
7. It is also a capacitive home button. Working flawlessly for both usage.
8. Easy peasy, when you buy Micro USB -> USB C Adapter
9. Dunno.
10. No idea.
Using this phone for about a month and loving it since the day one. Problably the only thing I hate is that I can't get satisfying screen protector, which this device deserves. Just because of that tiny curved edge... It feels very nice when the phone is naked, but also impossible for tempered glass screen protector to cover the whole screen... And when it does, it really decreases display readibility... But thats just accessories, phone itself is great
Hopefully this will help a little bit.

I've had this device now for a little over a week. I want to have it's babies. Love this device. I actually don't even hate the oxygen OS BC it's close to pure Android.
Good camera.
Battery gives me an avg of 6.5-7 SOT. Which is just stupid since it has a 3000 mAh battery. Just turn off the silly gestures. They kill battery BC it keeps the device awake.
The phone is ridiculous fast.
The only downside for me is the screen isn't quad HD. Its 1080p. At first I thought I'd notice but I really don't. Obviously text isn't as crisp as quad but its a good screen.
Overall there isn't much about this device I can gripe about.
This is my first OnePlus device and it's <3

So, answering my own questions, as I got my device yesterday:
1. Havent checked if storage changes depending on rom, or if it is partitioned. But yeah, there's OTG.
2. GPS signal is like a dream compared to my old SGS4, using GPS only in Pokemon GO it folows my location very accuratly.
3. Judging by the forum development is very well alive on this device, so I would assume we will get development for a long time ahead.
4. Havent tested, but checking several videos, OIS is a little lacking compared to other top models such as Galaxy S7, but improves stability alot compared to non OIS cameras.
5. No screen smearing from what I can see on this device, resulting in much clearer image while scrolling.
6. Have not tested. I suggest avoiding any command related to delete and bootloader in the same line.
7. Fingerprint reader is a capacitive home button. However, the button does not turn on the screen when pressed (Like samsung home button does).
8. Seen alot of USB-c to Micro USB adapters out there, for simple charging most should work. For data i havent tested yet.
9. Battery seems pretty easy to swap by checking teardown videos. It also looks like the NFC chip is not on the battery, but beneath the Camera lens.
10. Only thing better in SGS4 would be Micro SD, temperature and IR. Otherwise everything is way better on OP3.
I would recommend this phone, giving it a solid 8.5/10 rating.
Regards.

1. I Love the storage as it is, came from a 32 GB Nexus, this is a dream.
2. No strange things here and I use it for running personal records with Endomondo app so it's important to me. Maybe not as accurate as the 6p, maybe.
3. I bought the device because of that so let's hope for the best
4. Don't know, focus sucks on custom Roms though
5. Yes, yes, yes, I cried a little cause I sold the 6p because of smearing and when i switched the op3 I saw it right away, it's bad and it's a gamble with AMOLED some units are better then other. For me it's the only let down of this phone.
6. Don't know, only used fastboot OEM unlock, fastboot format user data and fastboot flash recovery. That's all you need
7. Capacitive but it will wake the screen despite the person above told you. It's also a home button and you can set about 8-10 custom commands in oxygen and a lot more on custom Roms.
8. It's okay as long as my OnePlus charger is fine

Whats wrong with the S10+

First off I don't post often, so forgive me if I break rules. This topic is for discuss of current problems with the S10, S10+, S10E and there varients (Carrier/Unlocked). I will make some good points about the phone as well. Take it with a grain please.
I have the S10+ from Verizon and my phone is up to date as of March 8 2019, the day I bought the phone.
I have noticed a large amount of problems within 2 days of owning my device. Note, I switched from my Note 9 for this.
Here are a list of problems I have noticed, and how I remedied them.
1. Call volume - There is no more sound boost, and calls generally result in low output of the top speaker phone, resulting in a very hard time for me and no sure way to cure this problem as of right now. Note, I have hearing damage from the army, Note 9 was fine without call boost on.
2. Full screen for games is a now hidden feature almost, after some reading and digging, the solution I found is to manually go to phone settings -> display -> full screen apps -> select the app -> change auto to full screen default. Annoying given that my Note 9 and other Galaxy devices all had a toggle option inside each game for full and non full screen.
3. Substratum, A fonts do not install overlays anymore, Andromeda will bootloop your phone. Why... ?. Now I know this is more of Google than samsung, but man does it suck not being able to choose my favorite font and use flux for substratum to change those ugly indicators at the top. No solution, hopefully someone will find a workaround. I don't mind buying something that looks good, but theme store is literally filled with trash, Sorry.
4. Heating, pretty much all of my other phones never got anywhere near as hot and as often as this device did... I'm running the same settings and everything for the phone its self and for games themselves as well. My phone is constantly hot and even when not in use I can feel the warm device on my thigh whilst in my pocket. Solution, nothing.
5. Even though there is a indicators for the new fingerprint scanner under the display, it sometimes doesn't show and even if it does it's still hard to find. I find myself guessing most of the time with hope to get it right. Better indicator would be nice.
6. Fingerprint scanner, I have put several fingerprint on file of my right thumb and still have issues picking up the fingerprint to unlock without smashing down on the display for a clean crisp pickup. IDK what to say here. Kinda sucks but I still love it.
7. Display brightness outside, I cannot see the screen at all! When I'm outside and Max brightness is on. Help.
Nothing more as far as right now that's it.
Here is some ups thought.
1. Man that HDR 10+ is nice, I notice it right away with games and watching movies, YouTube, etc. Even with low lighting on my display, I can still see colors vividly and distinctly. GJ Sammy!
2. Better audio then the last as usual, distinctly sound with smooth crisp quality from both speakers. Makes great for gaming and movies ?
3. Fast fast fast fast, I noticed the difference and it is very much faster then the Note 9
4. Them cameras though.. ? dare I say more...
Not much more to say, again grain of salt. This is my first big post, let me know what you think and how you feel. Could any of these issues be fixed that I haven't already and how? Note, this was written on my S10+ so I'm gonna go put my hands in ice. ?
Get a replacement it should not overheat just be warm, especially if you are holding the device without a case and have max brightness the device is so thin you feel the heat from the display it is not overheating. if it is then get a replacement
My Full screen apps was on by default not off
Dude its a brand new device substratum and the separate theme developers will have to update there themes and app / service to work with it , it just came out and people that pre ordered not all have even gotten them yet. Be patient and substratum will come this is not the devices fault besides Samsung doesn't even want substratum is third party software not installed by default not a part of Samsung and cant blame the S10 for that its just a brand new phone. give it time and sub devs will fix it.
Dude you can easily see the screen in max brightness is on, in the most sunny situations, you must have poor vision I do too and can still see it or you've got a faulty device and need a replacement.
I have vision problems and I can always see the fingerprint sensor indicators it only shows on the lockscreen if it is on why would it show when the display is off, this is user error not device error.
I'm not a **** I just have autism.

Display Problem
When I use Natural Display mode Everything is fine, But When i shift to Vivid mode.. Images get washed out and pale(Characters).
I tried multiple devices in the stores to check if that's only for me and realised its the same for all devices.
The S9 Image result is better than S10 plus(I was Shocked)
And then When i use Video Enhancer the Videos also get washed out
Frustated me tried to figure out the problem.
Opened an image in instagram, and the same image in Chrome(web insta), and one in GB insta(Mod app) The mod app looks closer the the real image. And When i open an image in Google Drive it was fine but when i download and open in photos app it has the same problem.
PS: its an image rendered personally by me. not a weird image that has some format issues
Tried to record a video with the difference, but it was not showing up on the video.
Did anyone have this issue?????
Can't see any query regarding this

1. Call volume is fine for me. Just as loud or louder than the 9+ I came from.
2. I'm not much of a gamer, but clash of clans worked just fine when I loaded it up. Also worked fine using a game cloner with clash of clans.
3. This right here is why I stopped using things like substratum, magisk etc. Google ends up breaking them every update. With OneUI dark mode, I no longer feel the need to theme.
4. I have zero heart issues. In fact, even when I'd have heat issues on the 9+, I don't have them on the 10+. That's despite them shoving everything into a smaller phone with a bigger battery!
5. My fp icon works just fine. The only place it doesn't is using the Goodlock lockscreen.
6. The ASAB update helped a ton with the fpr. It's very finicky when it's wireless charging though. I'm using the pre-installed screen protector. I'd try turning on the display sensitivity.
7. Mine is perfectly bright enough outside. I'm using Lux for controlling screen brightness but it shouldn't matter.

Yeah, I noticed that too.
Skins look very pale compared to my Note 9 and iPhone XS. I'm frustrated with this phone.

I've been using the S10+ (Exynos) for a week and I'm very disappointed. I did an extensive comparison against my Note 9 and honestly I don't want to switch.
1. CAMERA: The cameras on the S10+ are worse than the Note 9, specially in low light conditions. Poor detail and blurry areas. Note 9 has Sony IMX camera sensors while the S10+ has ISOCELL.
2. DISPLAY: Not as bright as my Note 9. Whites are very muted and reds look yellowish/pale specially in human skins.
3. BATTERY: Definitely not better than my Note 9.
4. THERMALS: It gets hot so easily even when using low demanding tasks.
5. GAMING: It's impossible to run games at truly full resolution now that Game Tuner is gone. Also, in PUBG I notice constantly frame drops while in my Note 9 it's a smooth experience.
I'm sad. This device is so beautiful but it's a shame that Samsung didn't care about the actual performance.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's discovered that they are again placing different screens and camera sensors as in previous generations...

open your app switcher and tap the app icon.
I can't really help with the rest, but I figured this out when I updated my S9+ to 9.0.

So I have an Exynos S9+ that I can compare to my Snapdragon S10+ for this.
1. near identical for me, but I'm not a shutterbug. I do really like the ultrawide angle, though.
2. So I set my screen mode to vivid, and then all the way to cool. I can still see a warmer tone on the S10+, but it doesn't bother me. I almost prefer it. Brightness looks the same to me, but I have no way of measuring this. the other stuff, I just do not see.
3. Battery is waaaaaay better, but my S9+ has like a 3,500Mah I think.
4. Thermal feels fine. Didn't measure. Just seems okay to me.
5. I had this issue with every Exynos phone. My SD S10+ runs PUBG at max settings with zero stutter. My S9+ dropped frames a lot.
Honestly, if you're happy with your Note 9, save your money, but part of your issue may just be Exynos, not the S10.
I'm comparing to my previous S7 Edge, so the difference in generations is noticeable compared to people switching from the S9 or Note 9.
SPEED: The SPEED of the phone is truly amazing. No lag, no stutters, apps start very very quick. I don't do a lot of gaming except some card games and the phone never really gets hot.
I also noticed that there is no slowdown while charging the phone, which was a real PITA with the S7.
DISPLAY: The display is AMAZING, but compared to my wife's S9+ there is not that much of a difference. They're both great screens.
BATTERY: I had an ageing phone with a smaller battery so the endurance of this phone is stellar for me. I can easily survive the day. And because I charge the phone wireless in the car when going from/to home I never run out. I never charge above 80% btw to avoid battery wear as suggested by the developers of AccuBattery.
UNLOCKING: I'm not happy with the FPS. I was hoping that the new ultrasonic technology would work flawlessly, but I'm having 50% chances to unlock. So I use the (not very secure) facial unlock for now.
CAMERA: I don't really use the camera that much except for some occassional snap with friends, but I can still see the huge improvement over the S7. Not that much over the S9 though, although like I said, I don't really use it that much.
I've got the Exynos s10+ andhave come from a note 4 so everything is a pretty big upgrade.
My two gripes: the fingerprint reader is frustrating, but more importantly - no notification LED! I thought that edge lighting was going to be the substitute for that but apparently that's not how it works. Any solutions there?

Turn on the profile GPU rendering and shows us your lags then.
i miss the security of the iris scanner
My S10+ SD is One of the sleekest fastest feeling devices I've handled! ?
1. Call volume is fine for me.
2. Notch affects some games, but can adjust most by NOT selecting full screen. SOME don't work full screen even when toggled on
3. I have zero heat issues because the battery is SO BAD it doesn't last long enough to create any heat.
4. The FP is simply UNUSABLE! It's so unreliable it's easier to have it off.
5. Screen brightness is fine for me in direct sunlight , with sunglasses on even.
6. Noticing lagginess also the more I use it, specifically with the browser (chrome). Never experienced this type of lag with the previous 5 Samsung devices??
Kudos to anyone willing to wait through hopeful software updates, apply tricks to TRY to get he phone to work the way it should out of the box. I'm not that guy. This is going back. It's far more hassle to try to use it the way I'm used to. The Note 9 works much better than this crap.
GPU Performance
Geekbench GPU benchmarks / Note 9 (Snapdragon) vs S10+ (Exynos)
Pff...
unlocked bootloader and easy root must be available out of the box !!
everything is wrong with sams s10+ !!
