[DHD] Return to stock & unroot. - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i have tried searching but got more and more confused trying to find the correct solution for my needs.
Can anyone help me please.
I need some warranty work done on my desire hd, the handset i currently have was supplied by my insurers so i don't think it was branded to my carrier (Vodafone Uk) when i received it.
I need to return to a stock official UK rom, i guess i need to change to a corresponding radio & ril too? and return to s-on and finally remove root and any other trace of being rooted.
I am currently running Android Revolution HD 6.3.3 if that is of any relevance, along with this radio: 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_28M
Hope somebody doesn't mind giving me a hand with this or point me in the right direction for a guide.
Many thanks :good:

Such a legend. thanks!
When new the phone was locked to one network, flashing it back to stock RUU with s-off will it still be open or will i need to re-root to create a goldcard?
Thanks again you've saved this phone from a hammer!

If you flash a ruu, you will lose root but not S-OFF. Root is easy to achive, flash SU in CWM and that is all.

[Q] How to extract original stock Rom?

How to extract stock Rom? The case is that I haven't done backup of my stock Rom branded by era provider.
Now some guy told me that he just bought desire z from era and his Rom is identical to RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.2_R_Radio_12.28e.60.14 0f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF_release (available on this forum)
except radio code which is ending with fU instead f.
So if I would like to get Rom which is flashed on his device, to have exactly what was on mine on the beginning what and how it should be done?

Ok thanks it is for sure usefully guide but I'd like to know how to retrieve or backup stock Rom from the phone with original stock?

Ok, if I understand you right, you currently have a phone with stock ROM, and you want to take a backup of that phone, correct?
If that's the case, I think you'll still need to root the phone in order to install Clockwork recovery. Once you have Clockwork, then you can take a nandroid backup of your phone. So I don't think you can grab a backup of stock ROM before it was rooted.

Yeah so this a problem. During rooting it is necessary to downgrade your soft to 1.34 what automatically force you to loose your stock Rom. :/

Oh right, now I remember. I think if you can't find the exact RUU, you're out of luck. What do you want that backup for anyway?

No no I wanted only to have a possibility to back to the stock Rom if my phone will have to be sent to service on warranty.
I know one guy from Poland who also bought a phone from the same telcom operator - era.
He gave me info that the stock Rom on his phone is:
12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2
While on the forum can be find the same but with one difference in radio code - only f instead fU
12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2 and can be found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879384
But what does it mean this difference mentioned above and if it is negligible or not?

Well, unless you've flashed a custom radio, another option could be to extract everything from that RUU you found in the forum and flashing everything except the radio.
Although if you want to send your phone for warranty you'll probably have to do a bit more work to get s-on again...

I've flashed two ROMs first one was CM7-R2 and then I've decided to use Virtuous 1.0.1. I don't know if during that process also radio was flashed :/ Was it? I am new Android so I don't know some things yet.

I'm quite sure that flashing those ROMs do not change your radio. So if you need to send for warranty, I think you'll just need to flash the ROM part of the RUU (should be able to find a post somewhere which tells you how to extract just certain parts of the RUU) and then reflash partition 7 to get S-OFF. If you used gfree, it would have made a backup of that partition before it gave you S-OFF. Hopefully you still have it.
Actually, have you taken a look at this?

Root and Goldencard

Hello!
When I bought my Desire, I asked the seller to root it and to flash it with another rom for me.
Then I read something about a goldcard. Since the original rom was from Orange (French provider) and the previous owner had it unlocked (officially or not I don't know ), will I ever have to use a goldcard? As I don't have a goldcard, what can go wrong?
Thanks!

Goldcard is a tool which is required when you try to flash stock ROM. There are a myriad of reasons why you might need to do that in the future.
Here is the method I used:

If you do not have a goldcard you could be unable to flash an ruu. You need to do this, if you want to set your phone completely back to stock. You need to this, when you want to "delete signs" of root, s-off and installed custom roms. So that when you sent your phone back to your provider/seller, you can assert a warranty claim, although you lost it with rooting (and so on) your phone.
Ohhh shh**tt!!
@stringer7: thanks for the link.
I have a backup of the original ROM. Can't I just reflash it to restore the phone back @stock? Can I still make a goldcard?
Thanks for your help!
As far as i know, you can make a goldcard at any time. It's just important to have one.
You shouldn't need a Goldcard- but it's completely optional and beneficial in some ways
Well I plan to give my Desire to my Mom and buy another phone, I don't want her to experience any rom related bug so I'll turn it back to official rom...
Can I simply reflash the backed up official rom? Will I lose Root and/or S-Off?

Yes you would then lose root and s-off.
You could reflash your backup - but if it's a nandroid backup, that would have been done after you rooted wouldn't it, so you would get rooted official rom.
So best thing is find the ruu for your device and carrier, create goldcard and run the ruu? You will find tutorials on XDA for this!

Rooting a phone does not take the branding off it, flashing a Rom with no branding does that... For example, my phone provider is virgin mobile, when i rooted it I still had virgins logos and apps on my phone... When i flashed a custom Rom, I didn't

[Q] Official rom + Desire HD rooted

Hi guys,
I have a question about : Official Rom & Root.
Firstly, I have downgraded my HTC Desire HD with Advanced Ace Hack Kit and rooted my phone with this same software. (ROM 2.3.3 w Sense 2.5)
All is perfect.
But now, i would like to upgrade my phone with this official ROM (2.3.5 w Sense 3.0) :
RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed.exe
Is it going to run ?
I presume that i will lost my ROOT, S-OFF, and data, but...Could I keep my Sim Card unlocked ?
Thank you very much
Is the ROM rooted?
If you flash the ruu, you will lose root and data. Soff and simunlock wont be touched.
Isn't there a rooted stock in the dev section from a month ago .that's where you need to look..its rooted but literally untouched

Do you mean this one ? :
DHD_WWE_3.12.405.1_STOCK_rooted_by_nitr00

I've found a way to install this rom directly from the SD card by renaming the ROM : PD98IMG.zip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382928
Do you think that could work fine with this method ?
Note : I'm not really interested by a rooted rom, just want to keep my sim unlocked.

Rooted phone = rooted ROM. Flashing an RUU will revert back to stock. Snowpatrol posted it, there is a link to a rooted RUU, completely stock, nothing had been changed at all. Go through DHD Dev section, it's in there somewhere.

How to upgrade hboot

Hi all, so I've been trying to update my hboot from 0.75.0000 to .93 but have been FAILING miserably. I'm currently on ICS, and have tried alpharev which didn't work. Trying to flash rom to RUU has also failed but I don't know why. Flashed my radio to match the one with the RUU and that didn't work, which i'm guessing is due to the inability to simply flash from ICS to 2.2 or 2.3?
So my question is, any other tips?
Try to flash the hboot downgrade from alpharev then the right RUU. If that works you can root and s-off your phone with unrevoked/revolutionary. If you want to change hboot to cmr7 or data ++ (example) you MUST be s-off......

Thanks for tip, I've actually done alpharev and it also failed. Reason being it needs a rom that doesn't already have a2sd, any suggestion as to which rom is suitable?
Thanks
Edit: I've actually online done the hboot reflash, and not the downgrade. Will give that a go first and see what happens.
I think that all the rooted roms have some sort of a2sd, that's why I think you have to start from the beginning. Start with an original ruu.bring it back to its original state wich came out of the box...my knowledge doesn't reach that far ;-) its the easyest way I think.

Can you post your complete bootloader. Turn of phone, hold down volume and press power. What info does the left upper corner give you ?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It is:
BRAVO UNKNOWN SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.75.0000
MICROP-031D
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-4.05.00.11
MAR 5 2010,21:12:15
Still I think what's best is to go back all the way and install a ruu. Then go directly to revolutionary. It will root and s-off your phone and installs the custom hboot.
Maybe I have more time to help tonight, I am at work now :-(

That's what I'm thinking too, hence why I'm trying to flash an RUU onto the device. I however get this error when I do it
Error[140]: Bootloader version error
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone
Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again
I conclude that the downgrade did not work ?

It didn't and wouldn't cause my phone is still on S-On, I'm however dling some newer RUU so fingers crossed that helps.
Ah yes ofcourse. There is a stickie in the Q & A section here that has info and troubleshooting. Maybe point 3 and 4 can give you some more info !

Is it possible that your phone is branded by provider, in that case you have to create a goldcard first. I have no experience in this. Hopefully I am pointing you to the right direction.

Hey there, firstly I would like to thank you for ALL your help and of course the effort you've put in it.
I've actually fixed it by firstly going to page ~16 of the android development forum for the desire, get an old rom, flash it in and then performed the alpharev. Lo and behold it worked because the rom is reasonably old and a2sd was "new" then. Flashed it back to ICS now and I am proud to announced that I S-OFF'ED!!! Partition done and OFF I GO.
That's great !!!! Have fun with your fixed desire )))

@bjornzzz Any suggestion on which rom you flashed. I've arrived at this boot loader while going back to stock from alpharevx hboot / ics rom.
Flashing an Ruu before flashing the alpharev downgrade didn't help much. LOL

Reverting back to stock

Hi all
Could anyone point me in the right direction so I can flash my phone back to the stock Rom please?
I've got a HOX now and want to sell my HD to a website online, but I'm afraid they may send it back because of the custom Rom I have installed.
The phone was purchased about a year ago and was on the orange network.
Any help would be appreciated.

since u already have a custom rom installed tht means u are s- off, u need to get e-off , in case u have both of them u are ready to go download the corresponding ruu for the phone flash it through fastboot. i would prefer using a pd98img.zip. this will put ur phone again back to stock like brought from the store.. make sure u dnt flash a froyo ruu on a DHD shipped with gingerbread RUU, it will mess up the phone.

I'm a bit confused about the pd981mg file. I've googled that but it comes up with a lot of variants of it.

With the advanced ace hack kit there is no need to download anything as it does everything for you.

yes Advance Hack Kit can also do the job, but it can also mess up the phone if not done properly and moreover if u want to be more specific about which stock rom u want to return to thn ruu is the best option.. here try this one http://goo.im/ruu/ace download the ruu its in exe format just run the exe rest it wil do by itself.. P.S: Advance Hack Kit is the best and easiest software for returning to stock or root or any other stuff only whn used according to the instructions.
